Have gone there several time and this Friday went to see how the new owners . Had fish fry with perch and the fish was outstanding along with the live music. Great listening to music and looking at the water . The fry's were the worst I have ever had so waiter brought another batch which were warmer but still terrible. They had no substance to them and no taste . The draft beer was not as cold as it should be but waiter brought a chilled mug and that was better . Overall good fish and entertainment. read more

In area over Memorial Day weekend. Boathouse was recommended by people who live in the area. Made reservation for outdoor seating. Got there at reservation time and that is when the nightmare started. [[HIGHLIGHT]]No control of crowd at door...people sat wherever they wanted and outdoor tables had people sitting there for hours after eating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only reason for one star is for the view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 2 1/2 hours to get burgers and chicken sandwiches which were cold and chicken rubbery. Also observed family of restaurant owner sitting in private patio chair area getting food service way before the rest of the patrons. Will never be back and I doubt this place lasts much longer the way it is being run. read more

Waited over an hour for our food (Burger and a wrap), our cocktails (@ $8 a piece) were served to us in a plastic cup while other patrons had glass cups. When our food arrived it was not how we ordered it and because we waited so long we didn't want it fixed. The one plus was our waitress was very pleasant and apologetic even though I don't believe it was her fault. Disappointed that the establishment couldn't even buy us a drink because of the long delays and our food order being wrong. No rush to ever go back there again. read more

Fries were lightly cooked in oil. ie greasy and somewhat raw. The medium bacon cheeseburger was cooked till gray and yet cold enough to not melt cheese. Also, no bacon was found. Came out to Fox Lake last night and thought we would try the fish. I had the 5 piece cod and it tasted like VandeKamps, you would buy at the store, and the fries were soggy with no taste. With it being Friday, they were barely able to accommodate my late minute party of 9. Started of with a Spotted Cow, and cheese curds, can't go wrong. They do have a food special for everyday of the week (AYCE Spaghetti Tuesday,Taco Thursday, Fish Friday, etc). Menu is filled with traditional offerings: burgers, pizza, chicken, soup/salad, etc. Overall...not bad at all. Good Food, Excellent Staff / they've been getting their sh@t together in the last few years and their service wait time has greatly been much faster. However last evening must've been an off night. Had the bluegill dinner which normally is a good portion of moist lightly, battered bluegill with delicious flavor and enough to be full with good crispy fries French bread with butter and excellent coleslaw. Last night they weren't serving good bluegills. It was about half the portion of normal tiny little curls, incredibly dry and flavorless with fries that were colder than the coleslaw. In speaking to others who had the bluegills - also had same disappointments. Whoever was cooking, appeared to ration much smaller portions than normal, and they way overcooked the fish. Normally it's delicious moist and good portion - so the question is this how it's going be from now on. But They also have great cheeseburgers, great pizza, fabulous wings, and good burritos. First of all the service was horrid. The place was busy and had one waitress (not her fault) but we waited 20 minutes for sweetener for iced tea and had to ask 4 times. It took well over an hour and a half to get our food after ordering. We had 3 salads and a pizza when delivered the waitress brought out 3 forks and no knives. The salad had huge chunks of lettuce and needed a knife. It took another 20 minutes to get the knives. The salads were not good. The pizza was thrown together with no thought. Half the pizza didn't have sauce. It was by far the most disappointing meal I've had in this area. The owner was walking around and absolutely zero help to the poor waitress. We have visited the Boat House on two occasions, both were exceptional. Casual, relaxed and friendly. The staff will make you feel comfortable and well cared for. Food is good and prices are fair; especially their specials. This is a great summer stop, but winter is very good too. during the winter, you will not be able to take advantage of their outdoor amenities (Tiki bar and lawn games, and boat dock) but there is plenty to offer indoors. read more

My wife and I were passing through the area and decided to give this place a try. When we walked in we were very excited because the place has a great view and had a cool vibe inside. Would love to dine lake side in the summer. Our waitress was super friendly and very helpful. We ordered a bloody mary and old fashioned for drinks and both were very tasty. That is kind of where it all ended for us though, my wife ordered a pizza and I ordered their daily special which was a philly cheesesteaks. I also ordered a cup of their chili. All in all our meal was just okay, not a lot of flavor and everything was just bland. Their french fries were not bad, but that was about it. Wish I would have read some of the reviews before going. We were passing thru and wanted an outside dinner on a lake. The vibe was really nice! Food was good. Our waitress was running, she did an ok job. But waiting over an hour for food is not acceptable. I would believe this must be a kitchen help problem. Sitting relaxing outside is what we were going for but it just got way tooo long!! The owner stopped at one point and we told him we have been waiting but he didn't seem to care or make anything happen anytime sooner. The outdoor dining is very refreshing by the lake. Our server did a great job. Definitely will make the trip again.

How do you write a review of the place that you've been going to nearly every summer weekend since you were a kid, even through its previous owners and names? It's been cool to see its transformation into the place it is today. The Boathouse is the best bar/restaurant/place to be in this little town on the lake. Good drinks, cool crowd of locals & summer birds, and great fried & greasy foods at reasonable prices. I've even been here three times a day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The best thing about this place is the pizza. It's not amazing, but it's the kind of pizza that you crave on a Saturday night with some beers after fishing all day on the lake. The drinks are also well priced -- they can whip up anything. Some nights, the bar has local bands performing and karaoke. In addition to the outdoor patio and boat dock (yes, you can get here by boat), the house next door can be rented for summer trips with friends and family; call way ahead, they book up fast! Very poor service, 2 people in our party, we orderd 2 appetizers, 45 min later we asked the waitress where they were, they went to another table that ordered them long after we did, then waiting for our 12" pizza, for another 35 min, then was told that they were doing 16" pizza with 9" cause they fit in the oven, so we basically had to wait for all pizza orders to be done before they did ours, after several times of us asking how much longer, there were only a few tables inside full when we got there, and during all this the 5 tables by us sat down, ordered , ate and were done before we even got our pizza. The owner Vicky was rude and snotty, I think she forgets we are the customers, she is no decent business owner and does not care about customer service at all!! We will never be back there, so take this all in to consideration the next time you are in the fox lake area. She should have only charged us for our drinks, but she didn't. She said we either paid the bill or she was calling the cops! Since when do orders not get done in the order they are taken, not what fits in the oven!! read more

Note these opinions are my own: Went here twice this summer so far. Both times we were very disappointed, but unfortunately the other restaurant we wanted to go to needed reservations. The first night we had a young female as our server. She seemed clueless to what was going on. She would just go stand behind the bar and sip on her drink. It took us 30-40 minutes just to get a water as she was just standing there after she took the drink order!! At that point I went to the bar to get my own. The food took another 70-90 minutes. The fish fry was overly fried. Tatar sauce was good. They have free popcorn. The second time we had an older woman who I think was the owner (?). At first I tried to grab a table inside but she said it was "reserved" (as far as I could tell it was seat yourself. It was clear watching her interactions you're either a local that's been going for years and she loves you or you aren't. We ended up squeezing our party outside. Everything was a struggle and we felt like we were waking on egg shells. Getting sauces that were missed (no shrimp sauce with shrimp), etc. was just awkwardly uncomfortable. She was clearly annoyed and too busy. To get the bill from outside is also a struggle. Overall it was a tension filled dinner with mediocre food and a very long wait. read more

If I could give Zero stars I would. An older waitress who I'm told is the owner may be one of the rudest servers I've ever had. She was very confrontational, abrasive, and and at best reluctant to get any additional things requested (drinks, condiments, etc) The food was exactly on par with the service. The fish fry is also one of the worst I've had. It's not just one dish or one night: I had the misfortune of going twice (both times equally bad). Heard about this place and gave it a try for lunch on a Sunday. Our server was Vicki, the owner, and she was great fun! The menu covers the basics, but with enough variety for everyone. We chose to sit inside that day, but kudos to them for having such big windows creating a lovely view from inside just as well. I only give them a 4 start simply because while the food was hot and fresh, it was just lacking a bit of flavor or seasoning. We plan on returning, it was just a fun place. read more

Erin, our server, was really pushing herself from the bar to outside customers to those inside trying to beat the heat. We knew the kitchen was busy so we enjoyed the lake view and a cold brew. The pizza took a long time (Read: don't be in a hurry. Not a drive in!) but it was loaded with toppings and rich, gooey cheese. I will ask for a thinner crust next time, but it was a great deal for a 16 incher. Several beers on tap and Erin made some recommendations for our next visit. Thanks, Erin, for your enthusiasm. Love the location. The inside inside is a typical lakeside bar restaurant, which I like. Beautiful outside seating (lake a little stinky today). The waiter was cute saying some of the food is original for the area. ...and it might be. But the waiter was very attentive and so nice. Bloody Mary's are very good. We had a larger group of 13 at the 3 stone circular picnic tables. The food took forever. Then when it did come out it was hodgepodge who got food. Took a while for everyone to get food. We got our pizza and then the two other people at our table had to wait... We got the captains wife pizza. The sausage was a classic fennel sausage. Very good. Sauce was good. Thin crust was was good even though it was premade. Used can mushrooms instead of fresh which kind of dropped the quality in my mind. The black olives were good, not the tinny cheap ones. Overall a nice pizza. I could defiantly have this again. I am a sucker for lakeside seating on a beautiful day. View was awesome. read more

Great atmosphere with being on the lake!! However it took at least 1 hour for an order of nachos and they were not packed or super busy.

Good food. Had the Friday night fish fry. Fish was good. Came with shoestring fries and choice of cottage cheese or applesauce. They rye bread was great, homemade. Yummy! Our waitress was awesome. Perfect amount of attention. Food came out quick and she came back soon after to make sure everything was good. Came back a few times to see if we needed more drinks or anything else. Decent price.
