Painting in progress by Bob, Jesus, and co.
    Adrienne C.

I initially found Bob through his glowing Yelp reviews back in 2019, right after I'd moved into my 1902-built home. Coincidentally, my realtor who's been in biz for 30+ years recommended Bob to me when I asked her for a lead. I thought, what are the chances, of all the contractors in SF! A very good sign. Turns out all the reviews and my realtor were spot on. Bob, Jesus, and their team consistently do a beautiful, thorough job for a fair price. I've been working with them on various projects over the past 5 years, including repairing, waterproofing & repainting the back (wood siding) and front (stucco) of the house, cleaning & sealing the front terrazzo steps, and repairing & staining the redwood back deck & stairs. It can take a few weeks or months for a job to begin, but once the work starts it finishes efficiently. Thus, Bob's team is best for those who prioritize stellar outcomes and can be flexible/patient with scheduling. Every time, Bob, Jesus and co. do an impeccable, professional job. At this point, they've basically renovated my entire exterior. We feel so lucky to know a trusted contractor we can continue to work with over a long period of time to help us maintain a home that we feel proud of. An added perk: Bob knows the best people in the community to recommend for jobs outside his scope, like roof repair and color consulting. He's also generously helped me with odd jobs as needed, like repairing a broken latch on a window, repairing & repainting a broken piece of wood on the side of my garage, fixing a broken doorbell, cleaning out the dryer vent, etc. Bob knows what he's doing, a testament to his lifelong experience. More importantly, he's a conscientious, kind, honest individual, who understands the value of maintaining trust and building long-term relationships. If you're lucky enough to be able to work with Bob, Jesus, and their team (they're very busy, no surprise) you'll have the pleasure of not only high-quality workmanship but also friendship with joyful, mindful individuals. 10/10 recommend!

I had used Bob for a small project in my rental; to replace a cracked window. At the time he was one of the only guys to respond quickly and follow-through. He also did good work. I called him for a recommendation for an exterior house painter. He indicated he had a business with a friend and that they did water proofing and house painting, as well as light (non-licensed) construction. I asked him for an estimate. It was a little higher than another one I had gotten, but Bob made the point that his workers don't just paint over dry rot, old fixtures and damaged door frames. I have a hundred year old house with a 10 year old paint job. I needed someone that had enough construction sense to replace old cornices and framing with new wood, and take off old clutter on the building. True to his word, Bob's crew replaced the dry rotted areas, took off stuff that didn't belong there anymore, put on layers of sealer, primer and paint and my building looks amazing!! Also, whether I called him at 7:30 am or pm, to my shock, he picked up the phone! He's a super nice guy with a seasoned crew, and a kind hearted soul, not to mention a great house painter. You can't go wrong with this guy.

We had another amazing project completed by Bob and his team. They restored and refreshed the front and sides of our house. Everything from patching stucco, replacing a wall (that was apparently just painted plywood!!!), new windows, new lighting, regrouting our front steps, and of course fresh paint.. Bob takes a look at the whole house and figures out where the trouble spots are. He has a lifetime of experience to pull from and it shows in the quality of his work and his attention to detail. He really seems capable of doing anything and has a person for every sub-specialty, should you need them. For this job, we also needed an electrician and a roofer to do a few small things, and both were able to show up and get the jobs done quickly. I can't recommend Bob enough. Refer to the notes in my previous review about scheduling because they still hold, but he really is worth the wait.

Side of my house with loose cement siding that 2 other people told me was asbestos. It's not asbestos it's cement siding

I had a siding issue on my home & was told it was asbestos siding & would have to find a specialist to fix the loose siding pieces or remove & replace the siding. I immediately contacted Bob because he knows San Francisco homes better than anyone. I sent him a picture & he confirmed my siding is cement not asbestos & that it would be an easy fix vs. replacing the entire side. He also explained how it should be fixed & painted. I had 2 other people telling me it was asbestos. When I told them it wasn't they said they were just assuming/guessing. Once we pulled the loose pieces off we saw, yes they are cement. If it weren't for Bob's knowledge & expertise I would have spent a lot of time & money looking for an asbestos expert to remove perfectly good siding. No wonder he's one of the most sought out painters in SF. He knows his business.

Bob gutted the entire back. Fixed it beautifully. Fixed the leaks on my top two windows and installed new patio doors perfectly.

Bob is the best there is. Please understand that he is really busy. If you call him, he will pick up his phone. He will talk to you and he will let you know he can help you. If it is an emergency, he will go out of his way to give you a solution. He will take care of you. The problem is that people try to compare other experiences they have had (as in someone that comes in, gives you a quote, does the job and gets out). Bob does more than just taking care of you. He will make sure something is done right; he will not use cheap materials, and you will not have to do anything to whatever he fixes for YEARS! I would highly recommend Bob and I would check with him first before you try to cheap out with some other guy. Don't waste your time and make the right decision by calling Bob first.

My wife and I have had great experiences with two other woodworkers in San Francisco, but they were…read moreunavailable for this project, so we hired SF Custom Woodworks to: 1. build a windowbox which would also function as a headboard for a bed, with built-in drawers and hinged openings for storage, made of ash veneer on plywood 2. cut a large slab desk which previously filled that window into two smaller desk slabs, to be installed elsewhere Our main contact was Alex, who was great to work with: rapidly responsive at all hours, friendly, accommodating. We were quoted $7,850. Remarkably, the windowbox was built and installed in less than a week. Unfortunately, the attention to detail in execution was poor: * the seams between the four main pieces aren't properly aligned, producing unsightly and rough-feeling edges * many of the edges were cut in a way which badly chipped the veneer * one of the hinged openings is badly misaligned, resting several mm above the surface * a drawer face was delivered with a stray drill hole * one of the main front faces was delivered with a large gouge * one of the drawers was designed to hold a CPAP machine; Alex carefully measured it, but delivered a drawer which didn't fit it * the drawer faces were attached with finishing nails rather than hidden joinery; the nail holes were then covered with poorly matching filler * the desk slabs were returned to us with gouges in the main surface, a 2" divot taken out of an edge face, and unfinished sides Alex told us that the misalignments are because our floor isn't level--which is fine, but the other two woodworkers we've worked with carefully shimmed their bases into place on-site so that everything would be level. Alex told us that finishing nails were necessary to attach the drawer faces, but another woodworker who built ash veneer cabinets for us produced beautiful results with hidden joinery. We sent Alex a list of 13 issues with photos; Alex gamely told us that he'd send one of his woodworkers to fix all but one issue. After a month delay with several reschedulings on both sides, the woodworker came. He fixed the two issues with the desk slabs, but in the process he also partially removed its surface finish, without comment and without offering to refinish it. He said he didn't know how to fix the other issues, and we were left with unfinished desks we still couldn't install. At this point, Alex stopped responding to messages. I gave up and refinished the desk slabs myself, which took about five hours. We planned to put a cushion on half the windowbox and leave the other half exposed, to enjoy the wood tone, but because the execution quality on the windowbox was poor, we decided to cover the whole thing with cushions instead. They meant well, I think, and they really did try. They did deliver roughly the windowbox we wanted, though with a low level of craftsmanship. I think they just don't have the skills/experience needed to execute this project well, and we didn't realize that before hiring them.

Replacement of six worn dining chair seat cushions and making the chairs more stable and safe. Alex and his crew did a great job with both, using solid teak legs for the table and dissembling and reglueing the dining chairs and fixing the seat cushions. The mohair chair backs were in good shape, and glued to the frame, so we wanted to keep them, though the seats had no cushion left and needed replacement. Alex closely matched the mohair backs- as he said, "a little different style but you'll like it!" We do! The cost was very reasonable and both projects were done in less than a week, with pickup and delivery. It was a pleasure working with him: great communicator, knowledgeable, and honest. Highly recommend.

My home is an upper unit of a 2 unit, 115 year old building in the Castro. You can see from the photos below that Gregory did a beautiful professional job on my project, working with the architect/designer who had suggested the built-ins, and responding to my particular requests. Fitting new cabinetry into an old wooden building required a lot of customization during installation, and Gregory was definitely up to the task - as mentioned by other reviewers he is easy to work with, creative, flexible, with an "incredible eye." He did all the installation and finishing himself (with a helper). To be fair, it took Gregory longer than he had estimated to make and install the cabinetry, but it was definitely worth the wait and he was very responsive and obliging throughout the process. The quality and value were top notch; the cost was about 50-60% that of the estimates I received from online cabinetry firms I contacted. Definitely a 5 star experience - thank you Gregory!
