I started using 7 Hills Construction 13 years ago when I lived in Los Angeles and they were very new (pretty sure I left the first Yelp review they ever had). Fast forward 13 years and I have used them multiple times, most recently having our bathroom remodeled last year and our kitchen/dining room remodeled just a couple months ago. Both were big jobs, down to the studs and building from scratch. The work is always top notch, high quality materials used and done in a timely manner. Michael, the owner, was very communicative and kept us in the loop on all the progress. Our kitchen and dining room remodel was actually finished a week earlier than quoted, which was incredible since we were staying at an Air BnB during construction and we're getting a little antsy. We absolutely love our new kitchen and bathroom and plan to remodel a small closet into a bathroom later this year and will most definitely be making a call to 7 Hills to get the job done. 7 Hills was recommended to us by our interior designer. I hired them to repair/replace a broken lever on an antique tub fill for the guest bathroom and do some touch up painting on window sills in two rooms. Their painters painted the window sill in one room with the wrong finish and then painted the window shut. In a bedroom the painted the white window sill with some kind of paint that turned pink in a few weeks. The 7 Hills business owner had to my home with a plumber to discuss replacing or reparing the tub fill lever he dropped it on my tile floor and it shattered. I asked him to replace it and despite many calls and emails to him directly and to his office he never replied. He left us with a broken, unrepaired tub fill without a lever to change the water from tub to shower. Needless to say this is irresponsible and unethical to damage a clients property and not take responsibility or make the client whole. We now have to replace the entire tub fill which is quite expensive. read more

I paid them for their knowledge, great service and the way they stand by their work.They also have insurance and by the time they leave, you feel like your 2 favorite cousins are leaving and you should be buying them pizza and beer instead of paying them. Some of the things I have had them do were kinda small like change out my smoke alarm batteries, hang a paper towel rod, but they didn't ever complain. We had 7 Hills install anti-skid strips on the back steps of a rental building and it was done quickly and well. They showed up when scheduled, were prompt with communicating by email, and emailed pictures when it was done since I live out of the area. I also asked them about rebuilding a fence, and while they were willing to do it, they suggested that given the specific needs of the project, we might get a better price from a company that specializes in that niche. How pleasantly surprising that they would redirect me to someone else who could save me money. Now I'm looking to have a door replaced and I immediately called Joseph and Michael. They've been great at getting out to look at the job quickly, helping figure out the best way to tackle the project, working with our tenant, and responding to my emails and phone calls promptly and with the needed info. Broken old things BUG me, and with a 100 year old house there has been a LOT bugging me lately. In the past year I have done lots of projects around my old house, new floors, landscaping, interior and exterior paint, tile work and after all the dust settled I realized I was in need of a dependable Handyman. I called 7Hills, and (Miracle!) Joseph called me that same day and we made a plan. My problems : I had a new kitchen floor put it which left an irregular rubber piece above the new baseboard right below the cabinet. My floor didn't even look good until Joseph from 7Hills came by and took a look. We brainstormed about fixes and he bought wood he throught would work, and he even stained it an oak color that would match the cabinets before he came to save the time of drying at my house. He showed up with the wood cut from his measurements, and it was a PERFECT match. I had a door in my ancient bathroom that has the old type of interior lock with glass door knobs -- this door has not shut properly in over 35 years. I did some pre-emptive investigating on the door interior and did find an old (hopefully) replacement lock from the recycled building place out in the Bayview. Still I had low hopes this could be fixed. But Joseph took a look at the pieces and told me he thought it would work......AND IT DID! He used those old recycled pieces to fashion a door lock and strike plate that functions as it originally did. Lovely!! I had Joseph come by again yesterday to hang a HUGE vintage metal piece over one doorway. He made it seem so simple, finding the studs, measuring meticulously and having just the right hanging fixtures to make that huge heavy piece off my floor and now stable and lovely on the wall. He also installed a new medicine cabinet into a tile wall (replacing a 35+ year old cabinet). Taking out the old rusted cabinet he was ready for anything, (damage to the tile, having to build a new frame for the cabinet ) cause working on old houses...you never know. It went seamlessly, and my shiny new cabinet looks lovely. Before I called 7Hills I had calls out to Handyman companies who never called or emailed me back, EVER. The great thing about 7Hills is they are handy AND they are professional, (ie they call you back, show up on time, communicate throughout the process) all of which are needed to make a happy customer. With my old old house there will always be a need for a handyman, and I am so glad I called 7Hills. read more

I've used 7 Hills twice and both times they delivered - showed up on time, completed the tasks in a timely and professional manner, and kept the areas spotless when finished. First time, I needed to replace a fan in a bathroom and replace another light. It required a special bulb and fan unit and he knew just the place to get it and had both replaced in less than an hour. Second time, I needed help fixing a pocket door which was installed wrong and so required careful removal of Victorian era trim in order to re-install. He managed this quickly and delicately so that we didn't even need touch up paint on the trim work and it is now working perfectly. I would definitely use them again. read more

Joseph called me back within a few hours (that alone is woth a star - I had tried two other places prior to calling 7 Hills and to this day neither of them have bothered to call back). Joseph came over at an agreed upon time and inspected my door. I had a very minor jobs to do but due to a sprain I needed someone to do them for me. When he called me he was worried about where he was going to park. Not my problem you want work you figure it out. Then he failed to show up due to food poisoning. He was sure he would be ok the next day - it was more like a wild Sunday party that kept him down on Monday. One project was to install two new shower curtain rods. He managed to nick the paint on the bathroom door frames THREE times on each door when trying to install the rod. The rod was installed just slightly off of level. When asked to sand something he produced a small OSH hand sander. Certainly not up to the job. When I showed him a cabinet door that kept coming loose requiring me re tighten the screws. His explanation for the problem was the slot on the screw head was pointing up and down not side to side!! This was a totally ridiculous answer. I don't think I had one of the two owners written about on Yelp but some fill-in who was not up to the job or any job. read more

Their prices are very fair and the work is of the highest quality. i even had them come out and do some work on my house based on the results I saw at the restaurant. Joseph is great! He's become our go-to guy whenever we have an oddball issue, although we certainly plan to call him if we have more mundane problems. So far he has installed a weather strip on our front door and helped us realign the keyboard tray on a desk. He's perfectly willing to brainstorm for us and we're glad to have someone throw out ideas and explain strategies and pros and cons to us, since we don't have time to research all that. My business partner and I had 7 Hills construct a front desk for our new gym out of recycled wood panels, and let me tell you, the finished product blew us away! I honestly didn't know what to expect, seeing as how I didn't have a visual of what the finished piece was going to look like, but 7 Hills did not disappoint! They also helped install a pull up bar and another mounting piece for our "battling ropes", as well as helped haul away some other demolition scrap pieces we didn't have use for. He quoted us a very fair price and stuck to it! The TV is mounted perfectly straight and all wires are hidden from view. From start to finish, my recent experience with 7 Hills was perfect. I submitted a contact request on their website and Michael responded via email within a few hours. We were able to find an agreeable appointment time for three business days later. I sent Michael a list of tasks that we wanted to have addressed and he provided immediate helpful feedback on costs and possible solutions to some of our needs. As our appointment date approached we added a few tasks and Michael assured us that he would come prepared to tackle everything. Michael arrived precisely on time and was friendly, capable, and efficient. He started tackling things right away and basically never stopped moving for the next three hours. He mounted a flat screen TV (with a bracket that he brought with him), fixed a broken door hinge, removed a blown microwave and installed the replacement, fixed a non-working electrical outlet, refreshed some caulking around a bathtub, replaced a float valve in a toilet, and tightened a loose kitchen faucet (another handyman had tried to fix the faucet before but couldn't due to lack of tools and space, but Michael knocked it out!). Everything he touched was done perfectly. Needless to say, we will use 7 Hills again and I can't recommend them enough. read more

I don't know what's happened to the modern world, but sometimes it seems like social graces have gone the way of shoulder pads and leg warmers. As in, long gone. I'd previously hired another very highly-reviewed-by-Yelp handyman for work at my early 1900s-meets 1970s apartment, and had a completely subpar experience (1-star review forthcoming for that one, perhaps). Fast forward to needing a few things done that I couldn't manage myself, and I happened upon 7 Hills. From the start, Joseph was fantastic. Responsive, responsible, nice, and skilled! Joseph took time to hang the t.v. from the wall just as requested (so recommended if you have very little living space), and we also talked about the viability of hanging a pot rack above the stove. Fast forward several weeks, and the pot rack has been installed and looks awesome, thanks to Joseph's excellent handiwork. He also gave me some useful feedback about the floors (I pretty much thought that we'd fall through them any day now, but he reassured me that's not going to happen). Finally, he provided input on replacing a fixture on the bathtub (got to love SF apartments where 20 things are in disrepair, but you're just happy to have a place to live!). At least I know that the next time I need help with the most currently broken item, 7 Hills will come to the rescue. read more

I wanted to install a dishwasher in my kitchen that never had one. I needed my cabinets reconfigured, the electrical outlet fixed, and the plumbing changed to accomodate the dishwasher. I contacted many companies but only a couple of them were willing to do the job. They both quoted me around $4000. Finally, my aunt recommended 7 Hills to me. Michael came to my house and he quoted me for way less than the other companies. I thought it was too good to be true but I decided to go with 7 HIlls because I could tell Michael really knew what he was doing. Michael ended up finishing the job in less time than we expected. Our experience working with Michael and his team was fantastic. We had a lot of work that we needed done in our condo - installation of a bathroom door, a shower divider, closet work and shelving, and installation of can lights in the living room. Michael took the time to do a detailed walk through and came up with a good quote, an important step since there were no surprises later. The team estimated 3 days of work and essentially delivered on that, while doing really high quality work in as unobtrusive a manner as possible. Michael also took care of purchases at Home Depot and other retailers, making sure to send photos to us and being very consultative on the kinds of fixtures we wanted and checking to see if the price was ok. I highly recommend these guys. Michael installed two chandeliers, dimmers, mounted a TV on the wall and hung floating shelves. He was prompt, very precise, and totally cleaned up after he was done. I had him install a medallion with one of the light fixtures and he carefully attached it to the uneven ceiling, caulked and then painted it and now it looks amazing and like it has always been a part of the apartment.
