Stopped in this morning for a late breakfast after a doctors appointment. All looked clean and up kept. Our server Shelli did a great job! Our coffee cups were kept full and she stopped by several times. Mom and her partner both ordered a breakfast skillet while I asked for the bowl of rolled oats. All was brought out hot and promptly! Though the breakfast skillets looked and smelled delicious, the rolled oats were pretty darn dood as well with the added goodies that came with it! Probably one our best visits! We visited Bob Evans on 11 Oct 24 and enjoyed a wonderful server named Betsy. She was so much fun, had a great personality, and brought our breakfast table to life all the way thru our meal. Our food was spectacular and I highly recommend the chicken fried steak and the sourdough toast was the best I've ever had. We will definitely be back again. read more

Three stars because our server Alyssa was great. They were super busy and grossly understaffed at the Mansfield Bob Evans on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. Alyssa was non-stop. Serving, placing orders, bussing her own tables, she was doing it all and with a smile. The food was barely two stars. One star if left up to Becky. Worst BLT she'd ever had. We were visiting our good friends P&D who live in Ohio. In the 10+ years we've known them, they've raved about Bob Evans. I'm convinced Bob Evans is more nostalgic for them than actual food quality. They were high-school sweethearts who have been married now for over 35 years. Back in the 80's when they were high school sweethearts he (P) was a cook for a Bob Evans restaurant. She (D) was a frequent visitor during his shifts. Probably their best customer. LOL (Born and raised in Ohio, P&D moved to and lived in San Diego for 30+ years before moving back to Ohio last year.) So here goes. Sorry P. I had the biscuits and gravy with home fries and over easy eggs. It was fine. Under seasoned, but edible. The home fries were the best thing on the plate. The gravy needed pepper. Lots and lots of pepper. Tabasco helped. Nothing to write home about though. The coffee was good and Alyssa saw to it that my cup never sat empty. As mentioned above, Becky did not care for the BLT at all. The lettuce was old and limp, the bacon wasn't crispy. The fries weren't very good either. Even D was not thrilled with her go-to, the chicken sandwich. She said that it wasn't quite as good as it normally is. She also claimed to have invented it. Back in the '80's it wasn't on the menu, but she said that P would cook it special for her. (Awwwwww...) P loved his food as to be expected. My friend and I were sick the rest of the day and part of the next day on our salads. Our other friend also got a salad and now I can't get ahold of her and we are praying she's not in the hospital. We got this delivered by Door Dash. The Dasher got it here quickly, so I know the following is due to the restaurant not the Dasher. The chicken was cold and hard as a rock, the bacon was congealed and cold and extremely greasy. You can tell it wasn't drained properly prior to serving. We got sick to our stomachs. Not sure if it was the chicken or the dressing had spoiled, but it was an awful experience. We won't be back. read more

My rating is so high because the service we got here was so very, very phenomenal. I don't know that I've ever had such friendly and attentive service. When I saw our waitress get a huge table seated in her section (eight or ten people) I thought we wouldn't see her again, but her energy was unflagging and she was fabulous. She did make a small error on my order - I did a build your own omelette and she left off the cheese (her error not the kitchen's - it wasn't on our bill. It was tasty, but a bit dry with no cheese. Also, gravy was not available for our biscuits til most of the rest of our meal was finished, which was disappointing. We wanted to eat them with our meal, not as a quasi-dessert. I'm not sure why there was such a delay, but it seemed as though the kitchen was not quite on the ball that day, as we watched other tables around us having to send food back (never a good sign when you are waiting for your own meal to arrive!). Out of half their food. Waited an hour for basic breakfast. They then ran out of all but biscuits and eggs. Mansfield is a complete bust. This city has went down hill majorly including this restaurant right off the highway. Food was ok, but not what I ordered. Took 5 mins to get seated, just me. Took another 5 mins to get waited on and water. Brought the wrong item out, but I just kept it. Meal came with biscuits, half way through I realized they were missing. After flagging my waiter down, I got the biscuits, but going on 15 min wait for my water and bill Maybe Dan isn't cut to be a server, nice guy but seems extremely rushed. Slow the F down and listen for a minute. I hear him taking time with other tables. I will chalk it up as just a off night. We had a really bad experience here. It took over an hour to get our food and when it did come, they brought out the adults' food first while four hungry kids under the age of 7 waited and waited on the brink of a melt down. Even then, sides were missing and it took an additional 10 minutes to get served. Refills on drinks were incredibly difficult to get. The soup was so salty it was inedible. The manager asked how it was and when we mentioned the soup as an example and they didn't take it off our bill. The men's bathroom smelled like a portajohn mopped with mildew and urine. It was unbearable, especially with the greasy floor. The salt shakers were unusable as they were so moist inside. Almost two hours after arriving we aren't coming back again. read more

It didn't start off the best. The "host" came from behind the bakery so I'm guessing he might just be covering, but seated us pretty quickly, however he isn't very observant. A guest with me was obviously in a wheelchair and would need a chair removed, he didn't do so. Usually it is customary for the host or hostess to take care of its removal. He just plopped the menus down and walked away. So I moved the chair, evidently to a good location since no one moved it. It took far too long for our waitress to come over and greet us. I know it can be busy, but it is proper to greet a new table as soon as possible, make them feel welcome, not forgotten. Finally when she came, she took drink orders, my ex (who was the guest mentioned earlier) mentioned her order for drink, but apparently it was out of order. The waitress had to do it in a certain order so asked again for my ex's drink when it was her "turn". Perhaps this waitress is new? But even so should have been able to easily note down a drink order. The soda comes in mason jars - yes you read that right. It is a bit peculiar, interesting idea I guess, but a little weird for a chain restaurant that's been around a while with normal glasses. The ordering went pretty well aside from my ex having to repeat her order for some reason (usually it might be my sons who have to repeat things due to speech impediments). The food arrived fairly quickly and was pretty tasty. Refills also weren't too bad, although she refilled everyone at once instead of only who needed it. My daughter didn't really need one but it was refilled anyway (minor issue really). I've had better service at Bob Evans and I hope someone teaches that bakery guy how to host if they are going to have him cover it (I assume not his usual job). read more

Ahh, Bob Evans! Down on the Farm or "Fresh" from a Factory? If your thing for breakfast is a "formulaic" style restaurant with food that is prepackaged, semi cooked, and served up corporate style by servers making $2.00 an hour, then this is your place. Just try to order an omelette minus one of the ingredients, for example a western omelette without peppers, that isn't going to happen. Ditto for any of their dishes, so if you have a food allergy, best to drive on by. Your omelette comes in a plastic bag already mixed together in a factory, boxed up, loaded onto a truck, and shipped to your unique location. The cook pours it into a skillet and voilà-- fifteen minutes later "western omelette-no substitutions"! Yeppers- that sure is an experience that says "down on the farm"...or not. It is like eating at Disneyland - everything is pretense. It will taste the same no matter what Bob Evans you go to in any other part of the country (aha factory!). Also, why does a farm-themed restaurant default to chemical-laced margarine and nondairy creamer (they're cheap, cheap, cheap!)? Apparently, given the last couple times I've been there (reluctantly with family), one no longer receives a pot of coffee on the table - hope you like the cold bottom of the cup because that's what you can expect nowadays. Bring your own half-and-half or better yet, SUPPORT A LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS and eat at mom-and-pop establishments where the food is likely to be more authentic. read more

Hmmm...not the best service last time we were in. I ordered a salad and the waiter brought to wrong item and the wrong size. It's no biggie, mistakes happen. I mentioned to the waiter it didn't look right and he responded somewhat angrily saying "So what do you want me to do about it? I guess I can take it back if you don't want it. But it will be awhile before it comes back out." Most waiters would have just fixed it without getting angry. I'm not one to make a scene, so I told him not to worry and ate what he brought. I then noticed he charged me for the larger, more expensive item I never got. Again, I'm not one to make a scene so my wife and I paid the check when we were done and left. The omelet that came with my breakfast weren't completely cooked through, and my fiancé ordered the farm house chicken sandwich with fries, and half of the sandwich was too tough to eat. We have been here several times and each time was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and exactly what we expected. We had excellent service from both are waitresses and the manager.
