BUSYBUSYBUSY "down on the farm" today!!
    Valerie W.

After foot surgery, I'm temporarily STUCK here in Springfield (CHAIN CITY) so when I finally had a chance to go out, this was better than nothing, but not by much... (waaaah, yep, I'm whining!!) It's that crazy time bet. Christmas and New Years when half the world is off work for the holidays, and the other half has to take care of their (our) lazy butts, so as much as I feel for the extremely harried/overworked crew here this late Monday morning, I really think they could have done a better job... TONS of people waiting for tables at the entrance (our wait was not too bad, probably 15-20 min. or so) but once we were finally seated, there were at least half a dozen or more empty tables just waiting to be cleared. Service was sloooooooow, but we got our coffee pretty quickly, and our apologetic waitress brought our biscuits out ahead of time and let us know that the kitchen was pretty backed up. I got some sort of open-faced omelet "bowl," and I have to say, while it tasted ok, I have NEVER seen anything look more different from the menu picture to reality (wish I had taken a picture comparing the two!!) All in all, not bad, but (waaaaaaaaah again, another whine!!) I could make most, if not all of this stuff better myself. This displaced New Yorker is STILL in search of a breakfast/brunch experience worth writing home about...!!

This was my cinnamon pancakes deluxe. The service at Bob Evans was WONDERFUL.

I love this place. Friendly, clean, delicious, speedy service, well priced and the food is out of this world.

Salad came out during the meal. And the restrooms smell like a porta potty. Service is a bit slow too.

We were very concerned at first since, it being the time the church crowds were going wild and the parking lot was filled to capacity, we figured there would be a long wait.

Well, my bad - their website includes multiple accessible places to park in and around the village. That said, we got it, and decided to belly up to the bar for a better look at the offerings and the place in general. Matt O was our server. I started with a delicious Scottish Ale, and my companion had a glass of wine. Prices are reasonable. My companion ordered and raved about the Shepherd's Pie. I had Bangers & Mash - sausage (3 pieces) with imported horseradish mustard, mashed potatoes, gravy, delicious baked beans. It went perfectly with my pint! It was a warm afternoon so the glass garage doors were opened wide and folks were eating and drinking outside in the beer garden too. The vibe was loud, lively and very positive. Music was old school British Invasion '60s style. Good times seemed to be had by everyone. We finished with a locally produced Chocolate Rum Cake - it was rum forward and smooth, dark chocolatey! Highly recommended.

The atmosphere was charming, the décor was exactly what we were hoping for, and the menu felt genuinely true to British cuisine rather than a themed interpretation. Unfortunately, our visit took place on a colder day, and the large garage-style door connecting to the outdoor seating area was left open. As a result, the entire restaurant felt quite cold throughout our meal. Since we were dining with our infant son, this made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience and was our biggest disappointment of the evening. In fact, it was cold enough that we kept our coats on throughout dinner, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the atmosphere the restaurant had worked so hard to create. We also ordered the fish and chips. The quality of the fish was very good, and it was clearly prepared with care. However, the portion size left something to be desired. The meal included only one medium-sized piece of fish, which felt small for a dinner entrée, especially considering the price point. While the food itself was enjoyable, we were hoping for a more substantial serving. Despite these issues, The Last Queen delivered on atmosphere, authenticity, and food quality. I would be willing to give it another try, particularly during warmer weather, as I believe the temperature and comfort level had a significant impact on our overall experience.

Located inside the Market downtown Springfield, parking wasn't too bad, numerous vendors, and the lively atmosphere makes for a good vibe Upon entering the main hall it's an open food court concept where you seat yourself and choose from all kinds of venues, but I came for the Chicken & Waffles and they did not disappoint! The Chicken was flavorful, crunchy, yet tender on the inside. The Waffles were fluffy and light which quickly absorbed the delicious Bourbon Maple syrup. Great mix that was all washed down with a wheat beer and some Blantons, yes, Blantons (IYKYK)! There is a full bar inside the hall which completed the meal before he headed out to Columbus! Overall, highly recommend for the options, atmosphere, and obviously good food!

Service was always with a smile, although fruit was forgotten on one occasion. While the coffee was never hot enough for me, the food was very tasty. I especially enjoyed the freshly prepared waffles. The bacon was perfectly crisp and the strawberries fresh. Eggs were also perfectly over medium and topped with cheddar cheese. One day I ordered hash browns that were crispy and right out of the fryer. Ironworks is inside the CoHash food court which was lively with middle school students on one visit.

Plenty of parking including several handicap spaces. Speaking solely for the (all day) breakfast, food was delicious and perfectly prepared. Over easy eggs were wonderfully runny, toast had the perfect amount of butter, the bacon done exactly right, slightly crispy but soft enough to be comfortingly chewy. And a generous amount too. Turkey sausage links were as anticipated, mild in flavor, and the silver dollar pancakes were actually pretty large and quite tasty. Coffee was okay, served in a large mug. If you want milk or cream (which is probably the fake stuff) in your coffee speak up when you order, as we were not asked. Service started out somewhat shaky but improved as time went on. You pay your tab at a register on the way out, and they have envelopes for each server if you want to leave a cash tip. They have a shelf of local jams, jellies, and honey for sale. The dessert list on the chalkboard indicated some delightful sounding pies, but I'm saving my calories at present so had to pass. I see they have two other locations, so hope to try one of the others as well next time we're between Urbana and Eaton.

I started with an espresso martini before my Benedict Your Way with smoked salmon, and it was so good that I had to have another one after my meal! Smooth, delicious, and the perfect way to bookend a great breakfast. And then there was the Benedict. I substituted the English muffin for a biscuit, added smoked salmon, and asked for extra hollandaise. Life changing. The biscuit was such a delicious upgrade with the smoked salmon, eggs, and that rich, creamy hollandaise. I honestly didn't want the meal to end. But the real finale was the crème brûlée. Absolutely perfect. The caramelized sugar on top had that beautiful crisp crack when I broke into it, while the custard underneath was silky, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, just rich enough, and the contrast between the delicate caramelized topping and smooth custard was exactly what a great crème brûlée should be. Paired with my last espresso martini, it was an incredibly satisfying way to finish the meal. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I'd love to see a few more vegetarian and pescatarian options on the menu. Otherwise, Ellie's is a lovely place with genuinely friendly people, great food and drinks, and that warm Yellow Springs charm. I'm happy to support them and will definitely be back!
