I was told about this place from my brother, finally getting to try it out on our visit to Yellow Springs. This cafe has an Amazing collaboration of flavors on all that I read on the menu items and it holds true to all that we enjoyed! An establishment that's true to its unique decor to match the local flair of seasonal delectable dishes that are difficult to choose from! I wanted a taste of everything! Our entrees were just as described and very pleasing to our hearts content. Our service was attentive, friendly and very hospitable. I came for breakfast after the breakfast rush and before lunch. I waited a few minutes before being noticed and led to a booth. Someone brought me a glass of water right away. A server came for my order, which was the french toast and I asked for berries with it. I also got hot coffee. All good. The french toast was so good I would order again. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting vibe set the tone for a perfect meal. I had the goat cheeseburger with caramelized onions and sautéed kale, paired with a side of red cabbage--it was savory perfection balanced by the slightly sweet cabbage. I was going to rate this 4 stars, but one of my family members got sick so I had to rate this three. This place has good atmosphere. It was not too loud, we were sat down next to the window, and there was really good music playing on the radio, definitely a lot of Stevie Wonder. Our waiter was super nice and helped us out with the menu. I had the Sunrise Classico which was pretty good. The artichokes slices were probably a little too big, but it was a nice dish. My mom had a regular burger that she only saw as okay. But my little sister had the salmon and she was in love. I didn't get a bite of it because she ate it as fast as humanly possible. Here is the meal that made me rate this place a three star, the Greek Beef burger. My dad order that last night, which he didn't really like that much. The next morning, he had a huge stomach ache which he said was from the burger. I do not recommend anyone ordering this, it could just be my dad but please be careful. read more

I went there of all places for Mothers day and deeply regret spending over $20 on a dish that was vegetarian yet void of flavor and nothing to write home about. Needless to say I had my mouth ready only to be let down when I returned because I was told I had to pay half price. Mind you the dish I gave back was only a 4 dollar difference. One time I went to Yellow Springs and needed brunch. Sunrise Cafe was there for me. I dined with a group of 6 on a Sunday morning, and although initially we were told the wait would be 45-60 minutes we were seated within 10. I am a plant based eater, and as such sometimes brunch options are limited, but not at Sunrise Cafe. I found it difficult to choose between the Super Veggie Scramble (tofu and SO many veggies), Vegan Fill-Up (veggie patties, sautéed spinach, mushroom, and garlic, potatoes, and toast), vegan pumpkin pancakes (self-explanatory), kimchi salad, vegan grits, and potato and kale soup. These are the things I was considering - there are more! I settled on a pumpkin pancake and veggie patties. The pancake was HUGE, with crisp edges and a cakey middle. The spices are truly inspired - hands down the best pumpkin pancake I've been served. The veggie patties are house made with oats, flax, cornmeal, several veggies, and cayenne which adds just a bit of heat. They were also delicious. Both the pancake and patties were a little more oily than they needed to be, but otherwise I have no complaints. The restaurant itself is cute - the walls are covered in woodland/nature murals and the booths provide an intimate setting for conversation. It is a little chilly in the winter, so dress warmly. Pricing is very reasonable, especially for the quality and amount of food - I did NOT leave hungry, and am looking forward to going back to try all the other things I wasn't able to fit in. read more

I visited Yellow Springs Ohio for the first time yesterday and decided to try out Sunrise Cafe. I'm so glad I did! The service was very warm and friendly. The tables were candlelit and the water was served in cute little jugs. I need to mention that in the front was an award they received for best pancakes so I couldn't wait to try them. The menu is very impressive. I ordered the veggie melt sandwich and it was so delicious. I got a side of red cabbage which was also delicious! My husband got an omelette with buffalo sausage and I ordered a three stack of pancakes... one buttermilk, one blueberry, and one pecan. They were so good! So I give this restaurant five stars for good food, good service and the quality of the food is so natural and fresh. I will definitely be going back :) read more

Been wanting to traipse up to Yellow Springs for quite some time after not having been there in AGES. Started off with a cocktail: Rosemary Maple Whiskey Sour that was AMAZING!!! Their menu was expansive with breakfast, lunch, and dinner served all day. I had Ranchos Heuvos. (Scrambled Eggs) that had more black beans then I had ever seen in that entree. It was JUST OKAY. Sunrise Cafe is an eclectic little college town cafe. The waitress was very nice and engaging, and overall I have no complaints about this spot. Would I do it again? Came on a Wednesday around 10am and had no wait at all! We were seated right away in a cute booth, and our waitress was super friendly and helpful in explaining menu items. We started with some mimosas -- my first time trying one, and it was delicious. Our meals were all fairly quick coming out. We ordered an arrangement of things, and they all came out perfectly. I got the chocolate bread french toast and wasn't sure what to expect, but it was amazing! I got a biscuit on the side which was heavenly but too much food (not a bad problem to have!). They even gave a little jar of strawberry jam on the side. My brother got the pancakes that were straight off the griddle with perfect crispy edges. Great local spot that serves fresh made, seasonal, locally produced food. Every time I visit I'm happy with the food and service. I decided on the biscuits and gravy this morning. The gravy was velvety smooth and the sage was a nice addition. The biscuit was fluffy, buttery and filling but not a lead brick in my stomach. I added an egg on top. We visited sunrise cafe for brunch. Their brunch menu wasn't that big which was kind of disappointing. I got the sunrise sampler which was one egg, bacon & a small amount of potatoes. It even said "small portion of potatoes"on the menu, so I'll give them that. They weren't kidding. It was like 4 slices of potatoes and they were under cooked. The potatoes needed seasoned as well. They were bland and boring. We sat on their outdoor patio which was nice and covered with a pop up tent. Very small establishment. Our server was friendly, but it took awhile just to get our drink order in. My husband got the pancakes and I tried a bite; they were very good! If I went back I'd get the pancakes, but probably won't return when there are far better brunch options out there. read more

Went with girlfriends Sunday night on a Columbus Day weekend overnight stay in Yellow Springs. Picked the Sunrise Cafe' for their menu. Nice fall evening, so a few of us tried the baked potato soup. Server said it was heavy on the garlic side. I love garlic, made no difference to us. Would you like that loaded? Why yes! The soup was a brown broth, not heavy on flavor let alone garlic, not one piece of potato in sight. Squirt line of sour cream was the "loaded" for an extra $3.50. Abysmal. Good thing we ordered sour dough bread with it. Felt like a prison dish. Won't be back. Waitress was great...Food was not her fault. Didn't let on that it was horrid. That's not us. On my last trip to Yellow Springs, I was looking for something new to try in between picking up my favorites. I ordered the Surf and Turf from Sunrise with Sunrise potatoes. The meal is actually a crab cake on a veggie patty over greens with sauteed mushrooms, so a really neat idea. I didn't find it as flavorful as I would have liked, both patties were a little bland. But the vegetables were all nice and fresh and I liked the concept. The potatoes were just OK. They weren't cooked quite well enough to be great, but were a good addition to the meal. The restaurant itself is very small and kind of crowded. There wasn't a great system to quickly pick up carry out and go about your business, so I was waiting in the line to be seated when I could have just zipped over to the bar to grab my finished order and hit the road. read more

Very disappointing.. The breakfast omelettes and egg dishes are ok but way overpriced. A $16 omellette only comes with toast. Another $4.50 for potatoes. Really? I had a $15 chicken salad sandwich. It was not good at all and the cucumber salad was wilted. These prices for horrible food? I couldnt even eat it. We sat outside and some annoying girl seated at the next table was constantly laughing at the top of her voice. What kind of person does that? So we had to pick up our food and move to a booth next to the kitchen. I can't blame the business for her bad behavior. But then there was lound banging in the kitchen.
