The Bob Hope theater is an amazing building. It's full of history and from the looks of it, it has been maintained well! The acoustics from the Swan Lake Ballet production were phenomenal. My daughter who is 6 six years in ballet training has now moved to pointe technique level this year and was amaze with the Swan Lake production. Theater location is in the heart of downtown Stockton. Plenty of street paid parking but I chose to have a little more security/surveillance parking 1 block away from the venue that cost $20. The parking lot is very small, and the attendants were very friendly but limited parking spaces. I suggest getting there early as the good parking fills up. The people working at the theater were very professional and welcoming. The ushers helped walk you to your seats. They sell drinks but I'm not sure if they sell a variety of food. I see people only with popcorn and candy treats. They also have an adult beverage bar. Con: While the show is going on, please do not allow people to come and be seated. Allow for production breaks in between, I know they have them. Everyone is standing up every 5 minutes allowing people to be seated through-out the show. Patrons please be on time it's not the movies or ball game! Lol Awesome venue will be back! read more

Went to this theater for a standup comedy show. I love how beautiful the architecture is from inside. Took me to Europe! All seats are put in a decent way - even the corner seatings don't miss out. I bought seats for the middle column a little before the balcony and it was perfect! Plenty of restrooms and not too difficult to find parking - street parking and there are a couple of garages nearby. My only shock was there was no heating inside the theater during December and it was super surprising. Glad I was all bundled up that night! read more

"won" free tickets through VetTix for the Tribute to ABBA concert. We took my parents to the show as a double date night. We had such a great time. The staff was super friendly. They assisted my dad as he had his walker with him. The theater was very clean and the seats were quite comfortable. The parking for the venue, not so great, especially for ADA individuals, but we made it work. The vibe of the decor was very "vintage". There was an old, retro feel to the theater. I'm sure there is a lot of history behind the curtains. I would definitely return to the venue as it small and intimate. read more

I went and saw Jerry Seinfeld here! To be honest, I had very low expectations as this is located in Stockton. But I was pretty surprised that the theater turned out so nice. The theater is beautiful. The seats are not the most comfortable, but to honest that was to be expected. We got nose bleed seats but they were not too bad. I could still tell it was Jerry down there. If there was another show at this spot that I was interested in, I would go. read more

First time catching a show here (Joe Satriani). Most of the close parking is on the street. Check the signage to to see so you don't get a ticket. There's also a couple public parking garages nearby. The theater is old but in pretty good shape. I was in the upper balcony for the show. It was a little cold as I had a light breeze from the air conditioning blowing on me the whole time. I could see the stage pretty good and the sound was balanced and not too loud. They'd set up a couple areas serving alcohol, beer, & wine. But I didn't partake on this visit. Nice place. I look forward to catching more shows here. read more

Nice historic theater Came here to watch a sold out show of Comedian Jo Koy. It was my first time in this venue. Very nice, intimate theater located in downtown Stockton. I'd say it is a city treasure! There is available parking nearby in the Downtown area and also a parking garage available but the street parking, if you can find one, is free after 6:00p. We parked on E. Weber Avenue and walked to the theater which was about a block away and two minute walk. Saved us on parking fees. The theater is beautiful and historic and is listed in the National Register of Historical Places. The lobby has gorgeous marble mosaic floor in the center and the event provided vendors that were set up serving snacks and beverages and there is also a cocktail bar. Inside the theater itself is classy with red velvet seats. It doesn't seem big but the theater has a capacity of a little over 2,000 people. We had Orchestra seats on Row O which was nice. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. We were close to the middle aisle. There isn't much leg room in between rows so it can be bothersome when people get up to go use the restroom each time or get a snack/beverage from the lobby. The event staff were great and helpful though. When the show was over they didn't open all the exit doors. It took a little longer to get out of the building as 2,000 guests crammed for those doors. This old style theater is best for theatrics and does not have the best viewing for a concert or more modern event. Watching a play here feels RIGHT! An example of the good old days. Before Stockton became a ghetto. When Stockton was flush with real-estate-bubble money. Never mind any of the newer fancy arenas; the Fox-Bob Hope Theater is the premier place to see a show in this town. I'm not sure of the history, but this is what it looks like: The Fox Theater was THE place to go to the picture shows through the 20th Century. It fell on hard times at the same time as downtown Stockton. Alex Spanos, the richest man in town, donated a million or so dollars to bring the theater back to its glory, around the time of the downtown renaissance. Spanos was friends with comedian Bob Hope, so he named the theater after Mr. Ski Nose. (I asked one of the Friends Of The Fox Theater where I could see the display of Bob Hope's Oscar. She didn't get the joke. And she's older than I am.) The theater has the feel of the grand dames of the 1920s and 1930s. The interior design is from that era, similar in size and feel to the Stanfurd Theater in Palo Alto. The seats are newer, no worrying about worn upholstery or pee stains. Good sound system, and there is an open sound table in the back of the first floor where the personnel keep the sound quality high. My daughter said that it is beautiful, and you'd be wise to take the word of an eight-year-old. What can you see at the Bob Hope Theater? Movies, concerts, community events. I was there to see "White Christmas". Only $8, but those who pay with debit/credit cards find that it's more moola. Be warned. Complimentary drinks, no snacks. This was a Sunday afternoon, so the parking meters were off - free parking all day! Very similar to the Stanfurd -- but this is in Stockton! Many residents here may have no idea of the treasure that is at the corner of Main & San Joaquin. I hope you're able to see it for yourself. read more

I came here for a concert. They don't have a basement to park. There's street parking available. This place is small inside but very beautiful. They don't actually have a bar they set up a table and sell wine or beer. The inside is very detailed and nice. There was a good amount of bathrooms and they were clean. It was an interesting experience. We were so fortunate that after having major surgery after a serious accident that my grandson was doing well enough to attend his sister's dance recital. We were lucky to find parking close by. The line was all the way around the block to get in and so we approached the staff to let them know he was disabled. They really didn't care. The family had to go to the back of the long line and wait their turn and he was allowed to stand near the entrance and wait for them. I waited with him. Maybe they could have at least let him in to sit down and wait for them? We proceeded to the very limited amount of handicapped seats and were told that only two people could sit with him and that they would have to remove some of the people already seated there. We were lucky to find seats elsewhere in the theater where we could all 4 sit. So, now I already had the knowledge from a previous year that you are not allowed to bring in any food or drinks and so I understand that policy. I was prepared to buy a bottle of water for whatever price they wanted to charge but then found out that when you buy a bottle of water or soda that they remove the cap and keep it before handing it to you. They also open a canned drink before handing it to you. Since there are no cup holders or anywhere to put the opened drink, I can't figure this one out at all. The situation with the disregard for a handicapped individual is totally poor staff. They could have helped out just a little. The story about opening your drink and keeping the cap is just plain weird and I would really like to know the reasoning behind that. I realize that is theater policy and has nothing to do with staff. When an event such as a dance recital is held at Bob Hope Theater, we do not really have a choice except to stay home if that's the case. I would not go there willingly if I didn't have to. Make sure if you go there that your purse is not too big or you can't go in. I'm not sure what I would have done if they determined that mine was too big but I was nervous about it when I saw the sign. read more

What an incredible venue to have your next event at! Scott is the man! He works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure that your event goes smoothly and perfectly! I cannot say enough how valuable of an individual he is and how successful he made our event! Every single cast member and every single concession person and Usher and ticket taker was incredible! Their customer service rocks and they are fun to work with! Doors were constantly open for me and my guess with smiles and all their faces! Are Islander Club had a concert here on August 4th 2018 and it was a very successful event! We didn't quite hit our goal for profitability, however promotional wise for our club it was a very successful event and we owe a big things to the whole staff at Bob Hope Theater! Our event was a first-class production and if we were left to our own device, I know when I've been anywhere near as smooth and a successful event! read more

A fantastic place. A beautiful old theater in and out. I drive down from Sacramento to see shows here often. I have seen many concerts and comedy shows here. The seats are comfortable, The sightlines are excellent, and most importantly, the acoustics are AWESOME!! My latest show, I was on the right side about 17 rows back, and I could still see the stage and hear perfectly. If you have a chance to see a show here, go! However, be prepared. For the bigger shows, if you can't get parking on the street, be prepared to pay $15!!! to park, and if it's a biger name show, be sure to get your tickets early, as it's a smaller venue. read more

Been here a few times over the last couple years for various small concerts. Saw Joy Koy's comedy tour here a couple weekends ago. Pros: - really good bottom level seating, even if you're in the last row (which I was), you can still get a good view of the stage and no one's blocking you. - Easy parking: there's a garage about a 1 minute walk away that's designated for the theater, and it costs $10 but if you pool with people it's totally worth it. - Clean venue - Vintage auditorium seating, really beautiful - Good security 10/10 would come again read more

I was pretty certain it would turn up, as we were at a Chris Tomlin Adore concert. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is that it was extremely hot in the theater and I was so uncomfortable, even though the concert was fantastic. I love the old Fox Theater! Coming here on a Sunday afternoon to watch a classic movie is one of my favorite things to do. It's a great opportunity to see an old favorite on the big, silver screen, just as they were intended. The one I liked best so far was Wizard of Oz. Before the showings, the theater offers free snacks and beverages and usually have something fun in the lobby to entertain you--barbershop quartets, art, musicians, etc. The theater itself is so beautiful! It's a peek into the golden age of Hollywood when going to the theater was an event. There are tours available, but I haven't taken advantage of that yet. Hope to do so soon. read more

I wish it was still named the "FOX THEATER" That's just my personal opinion. I've attended various events here throughout my years. It is a place that is nostalgic with a beautiful mosaic of "Titan" on the center floor when you walk in. The Staircase is great My last visit was to watch the Wizard of Oz on a big screen. A movie I've only watched on TV with family during the Thanksgiving season. Yeeessss, I know that we have much much larger TV's today, but this was a great experience of seeing it in an old theater. They hold different events like - concerts, comedy shows, they show old movies at times. Stop in enjoy an event there, it's a nice smaller venue but very intimate. I was very impressed. I lived in Stockton most of my life and have seen downtown stockton flourish to a wonderful little world. I have to applaud at the wonderful job that was done to the Fox Theater...aka. Bob Hope Theater... Why did they change the name to Bob Hope Theater? Was he from Stockton or something? Does Bob Hope have a connection to stockton of some sort??? Anyhow the place is gorgeous. I bought my tickets a few months in advance. Great bathrooms. (There are more bathrooms upstairs..with NO lines)...great little museumish area explaing the history of the Fox Theater.... :-) (near bathrooms) Arrive early to enjoy the bar area. read more

My sister and I attended Sir Tom Jones' concert at this magnificent theater on Friday, April 26, 2019 and we had a fabulous time! Tom is a great singer with loads of charm and his band was over the top terrific! The theater was built in 1930 and had undergone a full restoration a few years ago and it is knock out gorgeous. The sound system is one of the best I have ever experienced. Our seats were in Orchestra Left row P close to the aisle. It sounds like maybe we were far back, right? Absolutely wrong! Our seats were close! I could clearly see Tom's facial expressions and body language. No gigantic screens available and unnecessary. The light show on the large screen was great, too! I loved this venue so much, I've already made plans to attend the Happy Together Tour on July 11th! read more

This is a great old theater in downtown Stockton. The wierd part is that downtown looks like a ghost town. Empty and no action. At this event they had basics and alcohol prices were like most places and you could bring the drink with you. Parking is near by and 10dollars-so pretty good. We saw a mexican singer Juliet Venegas but the organizers did a bad job at putting it out there and the place was empty!! Yet she sang great and gave a good show. At the end we all went right up to the stage and sang and danced with her and the band. It was very cool. read more

Beautiful theatre!!! Great seating not a bad view in the house. But concession prices are ridiculous.. It was 103° in Stockton and water was a necessity with all the people there. Went to buy a couple of bottles of water during intermission - $7.63 for one bottle of water that wasn't even cold. Only had a $10 on me so got one bottle to share and it didn't last long. I'm guessing they wouldn't have let us bring in water either. read more

Came here for a Jo Koy concert and was amazed considering this is the middle of Stockton. I mean wow, beautiful old historic theater with limited seating. I mean it still has the old world charm where you can imagine rich ladies and gentlemen in tuxes and glittering dresses (the men in tuxes just in case you were confused). The seats are amazingly comfortable and to be honest I don't see there's a bad seat in the house. I thoroughly enjoyed the venue the parking really stinks, I dropped my wife and son off at the front and parked. I must have made a wrong turn somewhere because I then began a tour of Stockton on foot and there's me leaving my 45 and body armor in the trunk. Was I scared no I just kept thinking keep moving don't stop or your dead. The area around the theater isn't exactly paradise so I just kept heading in the direction I thought it was until some homeless man gave me directions, very nice fellow veteran. Will go back just this time I'll have my wife send up parachute flares every 5 minutes till I find her :) read more

I have been to this venue a few times so I knew the lay-out. When I purchased tickets for my friend and I to see An Irish Christmas on 12/8/18 I also knew that Orchestra Center would be the best seats for her to be able to see the entire show as she isn't very tall. I purchased tickets for one of the first few rows so she would have a really good view of the entire stage. When we arrived, the ENTIRE first 10 to 15 rows of Orchestra Center were already filled, not only were we seated further back, we were also seated Orchestra Left. I heard the woman next to me talking about her ticket and then pulling up what she and her friends had paid for and saw they were also supposed to be in the same row as my friend and I (Orchestra Center, first few rows), in addition to the two ladies in the seat in front of them. Because there were so many people already seated in our seats we chose not to say anything for a couple reasons. 1. The show was already in progress by the time we all compared notes on where we were actually supposed to be sitting. 2. We didn't want to cause any issues with having to move so many people already seated. (incorrectly). I hope the people who were seated in our seats enjoyed the better view.... Unfortunately, when I brought this information to Ticketmaster's attention, they offered to contact the Bob Hope Theatre so see if the inconvenience could be remedied in any way. The theatre declined to do so saying the seats we were shown were 'the same price range' as the seats we were supposed to be seated in. Regardless of whether or not the seats were the same price, they were NOT the same view. ESPECIALLY if someone in the party was not very tall and the whole point of purchasing tickets in the section I picked was so she would have the best view and opportunity to enjoy the show to the fullest extent. Very disappointing.... Very, very disappointing. read more

Recently attended a concert here... this place is the JEWEL of Stockton, for sure. What a treasure. So glad that they did not tear it down. It is hard to imagine that years ago they showed movies there... maybe an overkill for a movie theater? ;) Compare that to our movie theaters of today...Holiday Cinema 8, omg! One thing that looked out of place...out front, just in front of the doors sits a couple of Rubbermaid trashcans with black trashcan liners. Come on theater managers...get a bit of class and put a trash receptacle out there worthy of the grand ole' theater! They have six play bill display cases...only two had a poster in them advertising an upcoming movie. Why can't we fill the other four with some interesting facts and photos of Stockton's history? Let's put them to use and not let them set empty like we don't have enough events to fill them up!!! read more

Bob and I were the recipients of some free tickets due to a bff and her hubs flying out to see their new grandchild. What a gift! Tonight? "It's A Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. I don't think I've had such a magical experience in the midst of the Christmas rush. As we entered we were greeted by "Friends of the Fox" at every turn. There is no concession in the theater, but what there is; volunteers serving wine, iced water, little paper cups of candies and nuts and a lovely assortment of cookies. There are chairs in the foyer to sit and enjoy your snack before the 30 minute theater organ concert begins. It was all about the lodge for me; that's where I used to sit as a child with my big brother on a Saturday as we wiled away the day at the Fox. The melodic sounds of the theater organ reminded me of the many rides I've taken on the merry-go-round on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk as the calliope played loudly to complete the whole experience. Bob was taken by the Italian mosaic tiled floor in the lobby-all in all it was an absolutely wonderful experience. read more

Came to Bob Hope Theatre last weekend to see CHAKA KHAN This was touted as her "Sweet Thing" tour & who wouldn't want to indulge in sweet things over the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend?! Well, unfortunately the show was *sour* - backup singers sang most of every song while she jumped in w/ an occasional "yeah, yeaaaaaaaaah". Very sad... The venue however was *sweet*!! Reminds me of Paramount Theater in Oakland w/ it's art deco design; sound quality was fantastic & seats were super-comfy & nicely spaced to there was good leg room & no heads to get in my way of seeing the stage Although this venue is totally un-BART-able, parking was easy to find (& it was FREE) So while wouldn't come back to see Chaka, would definitely come back to this venue for another great act!! read more

Wow!!!!!! This theatre is absolutely amazing. We attended Tom Jones concert. The seats were very comfortable and we were only 9 rows from the stage. I was like a 5 year old at Disneyland, as I was sooooooo excited. Tom still has a fantastic voice and he is 78. I also know he just finished U.K. season of The Voice. We all had a fabulous time and it was only approximately one mile from Angelina's Spaghetti House. What an absolutely fantastic evening. Amazing friends, delicious dinner and Tom Jones. The Bob Hope Theatre (originally the Fox California Theatre) was beautifully rennovated by City of Stockton, Friends of the Fox and private donations in 2002, and is a gem of an art-deco theatre in downtown Stockton. Developer Alex Spanos donated $500,000 to the rennovation, and asked the theatre be renamed for his friend, Bob Hope. We have been there many times for live performances by artists such as Jerry Seinfeld, Johnny Mathis, Gallagher, Tom Jones and more. More frequently, we have attended classic movie showings, staged monthly by Friends of the Fox Theatre. There is not a bad seat in the 2,000 seat house. For the monthly classic movies ($8 adults, $4 students and youth, with tickets easily purchased at the box office within one hour of the show), the Friends of the Fox are simply marvelous. They greet you at the box office, at the door, serve water, wine, soft drinks and offer light snacks (no charge, though donations appreciated). Parking is easy, either on the street nearby or at a City-owned parking garage just a block to the west; and local restaurants are within a half to several blocks. Try the new French 25 in the historic Hotel Stockton, or Casa Flores, Can Cun, Misaki or other choices for good food and drink, before or after the show. This theatre is a gem, one of only two historic art-deco theatres that have survived in the San Joaquin Valley. Take in a classic movie, or a live show and enjoy! read more
