They did so well that our neighbor was watching them work and hired them on the spot to do some grading in his yard. For the grass, they offered us the option of doing sod or seed. We went with the seed, so the (after) picture just shows the straw, but we anticipate having a beautiful lawn next summer. They were highly professional, worked hard, and simply got the job done as it should be done. We hired them to put in a fieldstone wall and build up our front landscaping, after the Snowmageddon blizzard destroyed all our existing plants. We also had them installing 6 yards of mulch in our backyard, which is about 1/2 reclaimed scrub forest and thus full of roots, broadleaf weeds, and other weird plants that just won't go away. First, the front - these guys put in a solid day just prepping the site of the wall - leveling the ground, digging below grade and putting in sand, rerouting our gutter downspouts, and so on. Then another (hot!) day building the wall and adding the fill (good topsoil, too) and yet another day doing the mulch and planting the new (and hopefully more snow resistant) plants. They also salvaged the surviving plants and replanted them in good locales in the back yard - a nice touch. Speaking of the mulch; they went through the entire area and, using a hoe, took out all the weeds and other undesirable plants. They also evened up the edges of the yard where the grass and mulch meet. They left the site clean and tidy, to boot. Five star service all the way!

I did have the opportunity to refuse the delivery since I recognized the nature of much of the wood. (I know good wood as I normally process my own from my acreage). Our search for a landscaper began as a search for someone to repair a leaking foundation. After three foundation companies said our water intrusion issues were grading related we started our search for a landscaper in Severna Park. I called 6 companies, 3 showed up for the scheduled appointments to price the work and out of those 1 provided us with a proposal. We'd asked for an itemized proposal with a few 'wish list' items and got back a lump sum estimate for the grading portion of the project alone. I called one more company at the recommendation of a neighbor-- Bear Landscaping. It took about a week to get on Russell's busy spring calendar, but he showed up on time, listened to ALL of our concerns (including my constant wants versus needs budgeting assessment) and gave us his recommendations. In addition to the grading he addressed how to make our project last -- namely our super shaded yard with lots of tall (and many dead) trees wouldn't allow for grass to maintain the grading project meaning we'd be in a cycle of re-doing the work. Russell suggested removing the trees (I could only hear cash register sounds in my head as he continued), laying sod and finishing with river rock on the side of our house. Within days I had a quote in my email that had to be wrong: it was nearly half of the quote that I'd expected to receive and considerably more competitive than the one from a big name company (who only priced the grading work which I'd have had to pay for multiple times over because the solution wasn't a long term one). I was floored. We booked all of the services immediately and Russell's team came out for the tree removal about two weeks later and just came back after another week to finish the grading, sod and river rock treatment. Russell's team even hit a snag with their drainage approach when our deck turned out to have another deck built underneath it, but they quickly pivoted to a new solution without hesitation. Also worth noting: both landscaping crews that came to our house were friendly and professional to us and our neighbors. My husband and I could not be happier-- the transformation of our property is unbelievable. We have had neighbors seek us out to compliment the work. We are so grateful for Russell's easygoing, no pressure and honest approach, and that he took the time to truly listen to our concerns and fully explain solutions.
