I was so excited to find a little nursery nearby. I hoped they had houseplants, parked on a side street, and headed inside. They had one of each of about 10 plants. I saw a large ZZ, hanging monstera adansonii, peace lily, hanging pothos, scindapsus exotica... I bought a 8" adansonii. I called and asked to have the roots and soil checked and they said to bring it back in for help. I'll update afterwards. read more

I have know the Evergreen Genes for many years. They have wonderful plants and trees. They have helped me with my gardens. When I moved to a new house there was almost no plants, They have brought trees and planted them. 20 years later they are thriving and welll placed, The BEST! read more

Bottom Line: A quaint nursery with fair prices tucked away in Glen Burnie. I never knew about Evergreen Gene's until recently and I made two trips there this Spring. I was pleasantly surprised by the quaint building and the decent selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. I'm always on a hunt for Proven Winners brand plant collection and I came across some of my favorite Supertunias in early Spring but they sold out quickly. Selection was small but nice, a little overpriced compared to surrounding nurseries. This business lost starts due to the blond haired female employee. She was incredibly rude not only to us but to another older gentleman who was there at he same time as us. Attempted to talk to her about plants and ask a few questions and she was incredibly short with us and did not want to help. She then had the audacity to follow us around the interior of the store while we looked at garden decorations. And not in a how can I help you way. The older male that was working there was incredibly polite and friendly. I doubt I'll come back, more so because selection and prices are better elsewhere, but partly do to the rude treatment we received. read more

We had just adopted two little puppies and are not able to put up our large tree up like normal due to chewing. We went to several different places looking for a REAL tree that was small enough to be on a table top but larger than a centerpiece. Everywhere we went was asking astronomical amounts of money for what was about a 2 1/2 - 3 foot tree. Some places were even charging the same amount for a table top tree as their 6' trees! I was losing hope and preparing myself to go without a tree this year when my husband suggested that we try Evergreen Gene's. We pulled up, were immediately greeted by a young, polite man who was eager to help us. I explained to him what I was looking for, he asked who I assume is either the owner or manager and came right back saying they would cut one to size for me! I couldn't believe it!! We walked around back to where the owner was, he greeted us with a big smile, pulled out a tree and cut it to the perfect size!! I paid for it and we were on our way, in and out in less than 10 minutes! The tree was the perfect size, no flaws, smells great and was 1/3 of the price of all the other places we tried. The staff is friendly, all in masks, and ready to provide great customer service. If you're looking for a giant tree, I'd recommend asking first but if you're like us and usually get around a 6' tree, they had plenty of beautiful trees. I'll definitely be back next year!! This place is great, l like to shop small businesses vs big box stores. You might pay a little more but you get quality and good service. I have passed this place in five years never went in or stopped. I went to the Southern States affiliate for plants, just felt the prices were more for less plant. Did you know that there is a part of Glen Burnie that is not a terrible strip mall? Well, there is. It's not big, but it's there. In this place you never knew about, there is a nursery called Evergreen Gene's. It is not huge, but it's great. They have a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a healthy but not overwhelming selection of plants and shrubbery, as well as some trees that I did not really spend a lot of time looking at. I did see a decent selection of healthy looking Japanese maples. It's not cheap, but reasonably close to the big box stores ($3 for the "market pack" of six annuals, for example) and no worse than other nurseries. The best part is that it's not overrun on the weekends (at least not the day I went). If you live south of Baltimore, I recommend this place. Closer and not mobbed, good selection of native perennials. read more

We had the flower beds in the front of our house completely replanted - tore out the old and put in new. I wasn't sure what I wanted before I started the project, so I called and they sent out a guy (John, I think) to evaluate the space and give me some options. I later visited their showroom so he could show me the different plant options, and he arranged his recommendations according to my taste (flowering, hardy, fast-growing, etc.) Once we agreed on a selection and price, they came out promptly at the agreed upon time and did very professional work digging up the old shrubs and putting in the new. They even planted my pansies that were sitting on my driveway. They carefully worked around my irrigation system, and walked me through every step of the process. I was given the blueprint of the plan so I could identify everything in case I had a problem. They told me everything was guaranteed through the winter, and though I had my doubts after this ridiculously extreme winter, everything seems to have survived! I was extremely impressed with the friendliness, professionalism and efficiency they displayed. So impressed, in fact, that I signed up for their lawn-care maintenance program! read more

Worsted company ever. Gave me a price to mulch my front and back yard came out did halve of the yard and left when I called and talked to John the owner he said they gave me the wrong price and if I wanted them to do the rest it was another $270 the fact that he gave the wrong price was on him if I knew the price he wanted to charge I would not have done it I would have gotten some estimates when I tried to explain this to him he hung up on me. read more

We called to ask for an estimate for landscaping/hardscaping in our townhouse backyard. The estimator was very helpful and spent time with us. We did not hear back from him. Our ideas were not clear because we were just starting to think about our project. So I went to see the estimator at the nursery to try to firm up what we wanted done. Beware, they don't honor their plant guarantee. We bought 14 trees from them and two started dying not long after being planted. They came out and said they were fine twice and then when it was obvious they weren't going to make it they blamed the landscaper who planted them and would not give us back the agreed upon 50% of the cost. read more

We called for an estimate and the guy came out. Extremely nice and professional. We visited the shop to pick out our tree and as soon as we made a deposit everything fell apart. They stopped communicating with us and did not show up to do scheduled work. We asked for our money back and the manager didn't even ask why. read more

Get several estimates and recommendations before you let Evergreen Gene's aerate and seed your yard. They charge what I consider an exorbitant amount of money to do so and the results are definitely under par. There are so many areas in my yard that no grass seed even touched. I now have patches, several of them large, that have no grass at all, which is the way it was before they even started. Of course they indicate that certain areas are harder to get to in order to aerate but what does that have do with the fact that there was absolutely no grass seed in those areas. If portions of the yard are to close to the house or a fence for the aerator you would think they could have at least tried to use something else to break up the ground and attempt to plant seed. I also had a what I consider a large area in front of my house that grass has not grown. This area was in the wide open so I don't know what the excuse was there. Maybe some of you have had better luck with them than I have but I just wanted to let you know of my experience. read more
