Boba Bear was a bear-y fun stop! Sadly they had run out of the signature bear cups when I visited, which was a little disappointing but I guess that just means I'll have to come back another time! I tried the milk tea and honey green tea, and both were solid! The boba was soft and chewy and the staff were incredibly sweet and patient in answering all of my questions! I didn't go into the hookah bar section so I can't provide any review on it, but based on the drinks alone, it was a little disappointing. The Thai tea was overly sweet and lacking the distinct Thai tea flavor, and the boba was a little hard. My friend got the passionfruit green tea and it was better and the right amount of sweetness. Even though the drinks weren't the greatest, at least I got a cute plastic cup out of it! It's located in a quiet alley of a plaza, so it can be a little hard to find. This boba spot is a little hidden from the road because of a large white tent covering the name of the spot. If it weren't for previous photos, I wouldn't know where to find it. What I liked about this place is that if you want to enjoy the bar area, there's an entrance to the right that will lead you to a seating area. I wanted to do a quick boba order so I made my way to the left where there was a kiosk for me to make my order. The order process was easy and there were a lot of options. I ordered the strawberry milk tea and it was very good. The milk tea was creamy and had all the flavor but wasn't too sweet. I didn't really speak to anyone until I got my order, so I can't really speak on service. The boba was made pretty quickly though so I was happy about that. Starting with the positive first, the drinks made were decent. I used too good to go app to get 2 drinks at a discounted price. They literally made it while i was there so its not quite in the spirit of too good to go but rather simply discounted prices on drinks the house chooses to make. Technically customer service was good once I got the worked to come out. However, when i first stepped in, i thought that maybe the business was no longer running. I stepped in and it was completely quiet. The big tablet with payment system, the lights, claw machine, and really amything that would indicate its still a functioning business was off. The place is located in what looks like a hidden back alley, with no open signs or indicators of business taking place here. After entering through a sliding door, we waited until a worker popped out like we were in a movie, and we ordered. While waiting we wanted to check out the place, and I think this is where I felt the most unease. They have a back room for hookah, and while checking it out, the worker, who was alone, walked up to us in the middle of making our drinks and asked us to leave since we weren't smoking. It was a really weird experience with a really interesting man. It felt like we were in a business acting as a front to be honest, which might not be the case, but the overall experience was really weird. Anyways, we got our drinks and they weren't good at all. The honeydew slush didn't taste like honeydew and the mango tasted more like papaya. Not a good time at all, and I felt a huge sense of relief leaving. read more

I initially held off on leaving a review for Boba Bear since I wanted to go back to try their drinks before doing so, but honestly I don't think I see myself coming back for a couple of reasons. Good things first. The space is interesting and I don't mean that necessarily in a bad way. I've been in this plaza before and I always pass by it on the street going down Colima, but I never knew there was more to it in the corner. The sliding door was certainly a choice. It feels like I'm going into someone's house through the backyard. Then, behind the bar is this elevator entryway to the hookah lounge in the back. Very different, but again, not bad by any means. It's all very hidden. First reason why I can't really see myself coming back is the odor. Apparently there's a restaurant near by that sells stinky tofu. I love funky ass flavors and smells. Blue cheese, fermented shrimp, fermented anchovies, you name it. But this is a bit much in the wrong type of setting. Eventually you do become nose deaf, but I can't help but wonder if the odor clings to you and your clothes after being in there for awhile. The concept of the place is cool for sure. I'm definitely a huge fan of the idea for sure. Soju/beer, hookah, boba, and instant noodles is a fun concept. I didn't order any noodles, but it looked like you could get up and make it yourself. The hookah aspect of it is a bit lacking. The flavor was very weak and the tube to our hookah popped off, so we had to be mindful on how we positioned the tube. Also, I like to be able to flip my own coals and dust them off throughout the sesh on my own. Being true to their brand image/vibe, even the website is fun, but unnecessarily flashy. The fun stuff makes it slow and really bogs down the user experience. It's sluggish and a little annoying to navigate when all you want to see are the prices and offerings they have. Boba Bear has the potential to be a really fun and cool third place for people to hang out at, but there's just a few things that really bring down the experience. If they could fix those things, I think Boba Bear would be a great spot to come back to frequently. read more

While the containers are cutely themed, milk tea and Thai tea are not the fresh fruit drinks advertised that I was expecting. Response from the staff is that it's whatever is left at end of day which makes sense. But tell me you're going to tell management to correct it and offer some sort of fix for my experience.
