First of all, my honest rating would be a minus 5. So disappointed with my experience with this Boba Bear. I showed up at the address with directions. The name of place that directions have is not the same as Boba Bear. At the address, I could not find Boba Bear or the Msin... name gps gave me. Asking nearby patrons was so DISRESPECTFUL. Ignoring me by two people, one was an employee of market. They didn't want to be bothered by me even after calling and calling, "excuse me". Another employee at another business, I asked him if he spoke English and he said a CLEAR "no" right away. He didn't want to deal with me as he was smoking a cigarette outside his store. That whole place smelled like cigarette smoke because there was an establishment that people were sitting outside. Seemed like every single person was a killing at the same time. This whole place looked like a street mart or swap meet. Just the most awful experience of my life. Boba Bear is hidden in the back of a shopping center. They have boba drinks, hookah, soju and beer. The hookah is bomb!! It's so good. The smoke comes out extra cloudy. Pricey yes but soooo worth it. I didn't go into the hookah bar section so I can't provide any review on it, but based on the drinks alone, it was a little disappointing. The Thai tea was overly sweet and lacking the distinct Thai tea flavor, and the boba was a little hard. My friend got the passionfruit green tea and it was better and the right amount of sweetness. Even though the drinks weren't the greatest, at least I got a cute plastic cup out of it! It's located in a quiet alley of a plaza, so it can be a little hard to find. What I liked about this place is that if you want to enjoy the bar area, there's an entrance to the right that will lead you to a seating area. I wanted to do a quick boba order so I made my way to the left where there was a kiosk for me to make my order. The order process was easy and there were a lot of options. I ordered the strawberry milk tea and it was very good. The milk tea was creamy and had all the flavor but wasn't too sweet. I didn't really speak to anyone until I got my order, so I can't really speak on service. The boba was made pretty quickly though so I was happy about that. They literally made it while i was there so its not quite in the spirit of too good to go but rather simply discounted prices on drinks the house chooses to make. While waiting we wanted to check out the place, and I think this is where I felt the most unease. They have a back room for hookah, and while checking it out, the worker, who was alone, walked up to us in the middle of making our drinks and asked us to leave since we weren't smoking. It was a really weird experience with a really interesting man. It felt like we were in a business acting as a front to be honest, which might not be the case, but the overall experience was really weird. Anyways, we got our drinks and they weren't good at all. I initially held off on leaving a review for Boba Bear since I wanted to go back to try their drinks before doing so, but honestly I don't think I see myself coming back for a couple of reasons. Good things first. The space is interesting and I don't mean that necessarily in a bad way. I've been in this plaza before and I always pass by it on the street going down Colima, but I never knew there was more to it in the corner. The sliding door was certainly a choice. It feels like I'm going into someone's house through the backyard. Then, behind the bar is this elevator entryway to the hookah lounge in the back. Very different, but again, not bad by any means. It's all very hidden. First reason why I can't really see myself coming back is the odor. Apparently there's a restaurant near by that sells stinky tofu. I love funky ass flavors and smells. Blue cheese, fermented shrimp, fermented anchovies, you name it. But this is a bit much in the wrong type of setting. Eventually you do become nose deaf, but I can't help but wonder if the odor clings to you and your clothes after being in there for awhile. The concept of the place is cool for sure. I'm definitely a huge fan of the idea for sure. Soju/beer, hookah, boba, and instant noodles is a fun concept. I didn't order any noodles, but it looked like you could get up and make it yourself. The hookah aspect of it is a bit lacking. The flavor was very weak and the tube to our hookah popped off, so we had to be mindful on how we positioned the tube. Also, I like to be able to flip my own coals and dust them off throughout the sesh on my own. Being true to their brand image/vibe, even the website is fun, but unnecessarily flashy. The fun stuff makes it slow and really bogs down the user experience. It's sluggish and a little annoying to navigate when all you want to see are the prices and offerings they have. Boba Bear has the potential to be a really fun and cool third place for people to hang out at, but there's just a few things that really bring down the experience. If they could fix those things, I think Boba Bear would be a great spot to come back to frequently. read more

Came to order some boba, but the place is more suited to be a Hookah bar than a place for boba drinks. Front counter to order the drink is quirky, and inside seems industrial in design. There were some flies on the menu on the counter, tiny itsy bitty gnats... could be from counter spillage from the drinks. Ladies that worked here were nice, but when I placed the order, she mentioned to return about 15 min. Came back still not ready. Took about 30 minutes for my order of 4 boba drinks to arrive. There is a room separation so I can see she was working the bar counter for the sit down hookah area. Took another staff that began her shift to get my order. Drink was okay. The one that stood out was the strawberry Calpico slush boba drink. The other ones were good, nothing wrong with them. Come to this place if you want to sit down for the Hookah bar side. Boba drinks are secondary. It's not ideal for the drinks, as you can get it at any other boba places in this area. The gnats on the counter should be an indicator of what to expect. Staff is friendly, but this experience was not good to wait 30 minutes. Prices for drinks are affordable, but if you get it with a special glass container it will cost more.
