I have been a student here for around five years, and in that time I have grown in many ways, I'm quite the athlete in comparison to what I was, my health is great, my voice has dropped SIGNIFICANTLY as a guy and my confidence has skyrocketed. I'm glad I was given this opportunity to work on myself and find a hobby that is not only fun but empowering. All the instructors made this possible too, each one is amazing, and when I look at other schools it's obvious that we look better. the values that make us better are the exact ones were taught every day like discipline and quality standards of teaching to us that are tight sometimes but for the better, I can easily say this is one of the best dojos in the city, county and state by far. I'm more than grateful at this point; I wish to continue for as long as I can. However, despite all the main obvious qualities the issues I see is that getting gear and figuring out things is difficult, gear often arrives quite late and finding a class schedule that is accurate to present day is a nightmare sometimes, I would really like to see an online schedule present in the future, it is a common thing for most businesses to do that, so I want to see it here too. But really, overall, it is a really good place just I would like to see some improvements on communication and another issue. I will not disclose much info but kids must advance their belt rank, one kid is trying they're very best and struggling while another might just show up and get a pass on their belt exams and other tests. Another big thing is a feeling of bias in tournaments over certain members in our studio, I feel as though I'm not as liked and loved as other teens and I believe it's because I'm not on all the fanciest teams and can trick as good as them. I don't mind so much but it hurts to feel that sometimes. I'd say though that I'm still liked, just not as much as some others. The last part about this sort of thing is money it cost me 500 dollars to even go to my blackbelt test, whether I passed was not guaranteed with the money. another thing is that you pay more based on which class difficulty rank you participate in, there are also three main levels of training, basic training, black belt training and leadership training. Often, I've seen parents talking with the girls at the front desk about their kids and where they are at, then to days later they get promoted in class, keep in mind you are not supposed to pay to play, but they accept it because it means more pay. You are supposed to work your way up and when the instructors see you are ready they will talk to you or your parents and or guardian about getting you in a higher and more expensive class. then if they are willing to pay, you will rank up. We have been customers of this studio for a little over a year and a half and have paid more than $5,800 in tuition, equipment, and fees for some pretty basic children's training. Overall, we have supported the studio and program in good faith for that time period. A little over a year ago, our 9-year-old daughter was encouraged by the studio to move into "Black Belt" training, we were told it was the right next step for her development. What was not made clear to me was that this involved a three-year financial contract. In hindsight, that three-year financial commitment for a young child's extra curricular now feels manipulative and financially driven rather than child-centered. The contract identifies our minor child as the "buyer." I did not sign the agreement, nor was I aware that a three-year contractual obligation had been entered into on her behalf, despite sharing joint legal custody and joint decision-making authority with her father. I understood this to be a recommended commitment to training - not a binding long-term contract. When our daughter's schedule changed and she could no longer meet the time commitment, I requested cancellation. I expected maybe a standard extra month payment, the typical 30 day notice that most memberships of this nature would ask for when a cancellation is requested, but I was informed that a 25% penalty on the full contract amount (the FULL amount - not the remaining amount) would apply, resulting in a fee of over $1700 to cancel, and that the agreement was fully binding. After multiple written attempts to resolve the issue professionally, responses were delayed and inflexible. I attempted to address this privately before leaving a review. Notably, the contract (that I never signed, initialed, or saw) also contains language attempting to restrict negative online reviews, a practice that federal law prohibits when it comes to honest consumer feedback. Things that are objectively more serious than fourth-grade karate that do not require a three-year contract (of ADULTS): a post-employment non-compete, a Gold's Gym membership in the mid 2000s, a whole house rental agreement, a literal marriage, and virtually any MLM subscription - just to name a few, all of which are generally much easier to unwind. I value commitment. But I also value giving my child the opportunity to explore different interests as she grows. A year and a half in one activity is not casual and flippant for a nine-year-old, neither is a $5800 "investment" into basic training, it was an honest effort and we are ready to move on, but refuse to pay an absurd cancellation fee of over $1700. Locking a child into a multi-year obligation is intense and is something parents should fully understand before enrolling their children in this studio. read more

We have been a B9bby Lawrence Karate family for the past 3 and a half years and my son is still loving it

My son has been attending since last August, 2021. He has really learned a lot and grown from his experiences here. Callum and Dax are great instructors. They really know how to engage the kids and keep the kids excited. The kids here really learn how to defend themselves against bullies and they learn how to standup for themselves, respect for others, courage and determination. With that aside, the communication is rough. Its hard to get answers to anything. They demand the kids have proper gear (which I appreciate), but the gear is never on time and trying to get the owners to answer you where it is impossible. The girls upfront try their best, but its not up to them. The instructors tell the kids they have to reach certain benchmarks to promote to the next belt, but when one kid is killing himself to reach those goals another kid gets to just show up and not do much. So that is frustrating. And be aware this is a small facility and I know that they try there best, but parents for the next class will come in way before its their kids time and crowd the parents trying to watch their kid finish up and listening to announcements at the end. Parents are rude and think they are entitled. So good luck. So if you take away everything you have to do as a parent for the kids, the kids really do enjoy the classes and they really do learn and grow a lot from coming here. I give it a 4 star because of this specifically. read more

Masters are amazing at what they do. They keep the class entertained and involved, and they remember what specific goal each student is working on so they can better help everyone. Warning it is impossible to get out of the contract if things don't work out for your kids! We decided to try out karate for my five-year-old. The first month was pretty good and free. Decided to it to give it a try to see if It could become great. However afternoons did not work for my son and he spent much of class waiting in line :-( we had to give it up but the contract is IMPOSSIBLE to get out of we ended up paying for 11 months of karate that we never did. The credit is only good for a year and can't be transferred to another studio or towards karate gear or anything else :-( While the instructors are good, and the studio is very responsive, If this doesn't fit your schedule or it's not something your child desires to continue be warned that you will pay for the full year regardless :-( read more
