They use a space inside the C & C Ballet Academy to offer their lessons. The building is behind some other businesses and hard to find since the entrance from Redwood Rd is very narrow and easy to miss. Once inside, the parking is large and easy to find a spot even on the busy days.

The seminar was informative and the main teacher was very knowledgeable but it was pretty clearly a dude that picked what we'd learn that day. It focused a lot more on getting mugged or attacked with a weapon than on protecting yourself against domestic or sexual abuse which, unfortunately, is a lot more likely in a woman's life. So, when we heard that the 4-week class would be focusing more on that aspect we were pretty much sold. The course was $75 for 8 hours and included MMA gloves and a self defense keychain/weapon thing that we got at the end. Honestly, that deal is amazing. In the 5 weeks I attended classes there I never felt upsold or talked down to for being a terribly out of shape beginner (which I was deffo worried about,) and they were awesome about working with us when scheduling conflicts came up. I feel like I learned a lot; it was all hands on practice and experience while explaining how and why that move works, things to look out for (how to inflict maximum damage without hurting yourself, com mon variations, etc) so even after such a short class I already feel much more confident in my skills. Kaelie was a great teacher, very knowledgeable and was very patient with us novices, she answered all our questions, even the really stupid ones and gave us a lot of great tips for practicing at home. The only regular adults only class they offer is a women's kickboxing class on weekday mornings but none after normal business hours so those of us that work, are out of luck. It's a real shame because I liked my class there so much that even though it's all the way in Saratoga Springs, I was willing to make the trip for more.

I came into contact with the studio at the What Women Want Expo in April of 2017, and Mr. Kaneshiro, our head master of all three schools (Midvale, Sandy, and Kearns) was giving out VIP cards and had the promo of try a free month of karate for Women's month when you buy a gi ($20). I thought I'd try it for just the month, and a month got me interested enough to try a year. I didn't think I'd stay past a year, but here I am 5.5 years later having grown mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually and still working towards my black belt. To say this dojo has been life changing is an understatement for me, as I am not the same person who started 5.5 years ago. I have gained so much more confidence in myself as a person, and have learned to let go of a lot of the unnecessary junk that weighs one down in the day to day. I've also learned curriculum, which is broken down in each rank, continue to work on katas, and have been creating my own techniques, as required in the higher ranks. WestWind also has an annual Challenge (inter-school tournament) that challenges one to step outside their comfort zone to try something new or overcome the fear or performing in front of others. Our school is broken down into Early & Basic Skills (ages 3-6 y/o) and Karate 7 y/o+. It's great getting to learn alongside children and adults. You learn a great deal of control in the process. WWKS also has weapons and other techniques seminars throughout the year to prepare for disarming and future technique creations (for higher ranks). I can't say enough good things about the teaching and senseis (instructors). They really take the time to help you understand your movements, and they care about you personally. My wife brought up an issue we had (an overly religious paper that had to be done so my kid could get his next belt) and we feel the owner/instructor handled it very poorly. We only wanted to discuss an alternative to the assignment. He responded with anger, was very rude, and unwilling to even remotely have a civil discussion. The assignment is not why I'm writing this review, but because of the way he treated my wife. She was kind and diplomatic, but he didn't show the same level of respect. I noticed over the 7 months that he had a short temper with the kids, but I didn't realize the extent until now. I don't trust him with my child anymore, and If I were you I wouldn't trust him with yours either.

A 2nd instructor came and had to help and it was only 3 boys in the class, if you let one do the move wrong 10 of the 15 reps they are doing I don't see how they will learn. They also told the kids this wasn't a place for smiling..? We found a better more friendly and fun class down the road that was also slightly cheaper.
