This was my 437th Diners Drive in's and Dives Restaurant. I ventured out from Lawrence Kansas to visit this landmark roadside stand. I sat at the counter and enjoyed a conversation with the manager who gave me the history of the place as well as friendly small town welcomeness. I sampled the menu with a pork sandwich and a Spanish burger some onion rings and the apple pie. All it's were what I expect, acceptable yet nothing spectacular. This isn't a bad thing, the charm and history of this place gives it the 5 star rating. Long live BOBO's Drive in. read more

Stopped here after working an event at the capital building. Ordered steak burger and fries and water. Water tasted like water would in that area. Fries were warm and salty even before adding more salt from the salt container on the table. Burger was good. Had pickles and mustard and ketchup on it. And maybe a little bit of lettuce and some onions. I put a little ketchup in my basket to dip my fries into. The ketchup bottles are already on the table but they were shorter than expected. We were seated immediately at a booth directly behind where we were standing when we walked in. Order directly from the menu behind the counter as the restaurant is very small. The atmosphere is like you're in a local hallmark movie town and the workers and random customers converse with each other as they go about their meals or tasks. Even a couple employees were sitting at the upfront seating eating a meal and fellowship. I would try this again in five heartbeats. They told us to come back whenever we were back in town which didn't make any sense as we told them we weren't from out of town. Would recommend. read more

I came into town on a terribly rainy evening and needed some dinner. While a steakhouse was an option, something quick so I could hideout in my hotel room for the night was in order. I've been to a couple places featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives and they've generally created positive experiences. This one was no doubt. It was closer to closing time but I got space without any trouble, despite the very small size of this location. The cheeseburger was very good, even though the format doesn't always lend itself to deliciousness. The patty is super-thin, which is counter to the trend of thick patties these days. However, the offering here has a crispy exterior but still isn't dried out inside. The cheese does make it as well. I was a little wary of the onion rings based on reviews but went for them anyway. While they weren't amazing, they were passable. The exterior is pretty crispy, but the rings are fairly greasy. The scratch-made apple pie is a definite winner, with a flaky crust and a nice apple filling inside that isn't too goopy or saucy. It was a little different having soft-serve ice cream for the a la mode, but it made for a decent accompaniment for the pie. The homemade root beer is pedestrian and nothing special, but if you enjoy root beer, then go for it. Service was extremely welcoming, especially since the owner's son heard we were from out-of-town. We were greeted within 7 minutes. The staff was great, very helpful, and quick to get out our food. We ordered way more than we needed but we were not upset about that. Everything was delicious, especially the grilled chicken sandwich. read more

My first real drive-in besides Sonic!! Haha, it was really small and humble place. If you go inside it could probably fit about about 30 ppl max! I wanted to try it out since it's been around forever and the locals swear by the place. I got the double cheeseburger with the onion rings! They're also known for their shakes and apple pie which a local couple recommended I get after overhearing my convo with the server. The cheeseburger was delicious, nothing terribly fancy or special but it hit the spot! The onion rings were for sure the crispiest I've ever had in my life! Taste was okay. And the apple was filling was amazing! Very fragrant and warm but the crust was not as flaky as I'd like. Overall, I'd go back for another quick bite~ read more

This restaurant is a good old fashioned drive in restaurant. The food was delicious. I am a sucker for homemade flakey onion rings. The burgers are also very good. The staff there is friendly and the food comes out very quick. You can order from your vehicle, order to go, or eat in the dinning area/counter. The dining area is small though so, I hope that there is not many of you. So I recommend checking out this place. The drive in is a dying breed and this joint will have to going down memory lane and with a good meal to boot. read more

I have only been here once and I don't think I will return. Yes, I love the atmosphere; it's a total time warp and they have the old timey car hop. I thought the burger and fries were decent. My reason for the 3-star review is the service. I felt like the lady that served us was rather, well, unhappy. She wasn't rude but she gave us the feeling like she hated being there. With other burger options in town that are not only just as good for food, I will go elsewhere for service that is better. We felt rather unwelcomed. read more

We stopped at Bobo's on our drive from KC to Wichita. I have been to Bobos before, after seeing in on the DDD app, and remembered it was really good. Since I am on the search for the worlds greatest cheeseburger I thought I should definitely return! I didn't have much time to research prior to ordering so I just got the single cheeseburger and onion rings. The smash burger patty was enough for me but I could have definitely handled a double. The bun was fresh and the cheese was melted nicely and super creamy! My daughter had fries and I preferred them over the rings. Next time I would like to give the chili cheese fries a try but didn't want to attempt it while driving. The car service was fast and friendly! We hopped on the road and I didn't have a chance to get photos but definitely worth the stop! read more

I've been going to Bobo's for many yummy years. It's literally within walking distance at 10th & MacVicar. Their Apple Pie is just like the ones that my late Grandmother made. Bobo's is a classic and nostalgic old drive-in that serves up tasty burgers, fries and onion rings. (I can't speak for the desserts because we were too full). Burgers are fresh and cooked to order but on the small side--I recommend getting a double. Our fries and rings were cooked in clean, fresh oil and served up hot. We were here after the noon rush so there was room to sit down inside and our service was great (she was quick with a pile of paper towels to help me clean up my spill). Came here on a Friday for lunch with the boss and wow, this place was popular! Restaurant and parking lot were nearly full. We both got the steak burger with fries hoping our order would come out quickly as we had to head back to work soon but that was not the case... there must've been some kind of hold up in the kitchen because our orders along with orders from half the people in the restaurant took awhile to come out. Our wait ended up being close to 30 min and when our food finally came, we both finished it in less than half the time. I would definitely steer clear of this place during peak times. Their burgers are tasty but not anything to write home about or worth a 30 minute wait. Though the place has a "small town diner" feel so if you're into those types of dining establishments then I would recommend Bobo's. read more

The food wasn't fresh at all, ordered a chicken tender (which only comes with 3 for like $5.99, which seemed to just to be frozen and fried, the gravy was brown gravy which was runny and bland. Fries were separate and were bland and old. The fish sandwich was basically a fish fillet like McDonalds, but was not fresh either. I went shortly after 11am when they opened, so maybe I was served the day before leftovers. The only thing that was worth it was the strawberry milkshake. Not sure on how this place has been in business all these years, you're better off going to Sonic for a drive-in. read more

I wanted to give this place a try and for the most part it was great. Highlights: Great Root beer! Good burger & fries (not the best I have ever had but not too greasy). Fast/polite server & Great price! All this for $11!! Least favorite, the Apple pie filling was delicious but the crust was flaky and had zero flavor which I was so looking forward too. Additionally the parking situation is not ideal. I went when they weren't busy so I had room to sit down but seating is VERY limited and parking is as well. read more

On the way back to my brother's house we stopped by because I had heard about the apple pie on TV. We took the pie back to his place and the family enjoyed it for our late night snack. The apples were tender and melted in our mouths! The special of the day was the tenderloin and a drink which we both purchased and LOVED! Came here around lunch last week because I heard good things about this place. The burgers were delicious but the service was horrendous. A red haired lady took care of my wife and I and she was just absolutely awful. Seemed like she hated her job and would rather be anywhere else but there. The lady at the register was talking about personal stuff on the phone. We will not be dining inside anytime soon and we do NOT recommend dining inside if you want to receive good service. However I will be willing to give this place another try by using the drive-in option instead. read more
