I used to use BOB's all the time. Over the last few years I have had significant problems there. The last straw was that I had my daughters car serviced there and they left the drain plug off. We lost all the oil and the engine blew. They did not take any blame for this issue at all. They agreed to cover the cost of the repair but not the new engine. Unless you are a current or former mechanic, don't you hate to get car service? As a guy, its emasculating to have to have blind faith in what the person behind the counter tells you. For my wife, she always feels vulnerable to those little extras that some shops make their mortgage payments with. For us, Bob's has been our saving grace. We've been using them for a couple years now with four different vehicles, and have always had great experiences. Not only are they more than willing to explain every detail of auto service, including the pros and cons of every issue, but they are receptive to knowing what the priorities are for us. i.e. This is a vehicle that holds my children, so do whatever it takes... vs... this is a truck that runs to the dump and occasionally tows a small trailer, so lets do the bare safe minimum. I can't say enough about them. Highly skilled and efficient, but ultimately real people who realize that you are as well, and speak to you accordingly. Update 5/3: perfect case in point - driving aforementioned truck and the check engine light came on. Away from home, i pulled into a local service station to insure that it wasn't anything too drastic. After some "man behind the curtain" theatrics, I got a laundry list of items that "had to be rectified.". I thanked them (and begrudgingly paid them for the diagnostic) and headed for Bob's. Turns out that my AC (which I don't use the truck enough to need) had died and something with my compression/timing was off. Bottom line = Bob's saved me $1,200 by being honest. Was no a good experience at all! Didn't even answer my calls. I dropped my car off there for 2 months and 10 days. I got my car back in way worse condition than I dropped it off. My car does not run now. It's an older vehicle. I didn't expect it to be perfect. I had to go back in to the shop and ask for help so I could just drive off with my car. Bob held up a hammer and said he has althea perfect thing to fix my car. I told them both with tears in my eyes, If I had enough money for a new car, I would get one. I dropped my car off because it was shaking, not because it doesn't run. There's no steering fluid, no broke fluid. My brake went to the floor when trying to just drive my car home. I'm am so beyond disappointed. Bob also was making fun of my mother, because she is hard of hearing. I don't know if he thought we were being mean, but we weren't. It's an honest thing, that my mother can't hear. He made a gesture to make it look like he was talking on a mega phone so she could hear him. Then a little bit later he yelled and said "mom can you hear me now". No need to talk to or make fun of a almost 70 year old woman. When I did talk to the x wife at the shop it was over a month ago. She told me everyone had covid and that's why no work got done on my card. I gave the ok on October 30. 31st for the work to be done. I picked my car up 2 months and 10 days later and my car is worse off than ever. I've been hysterical since. No one even bothered to check on my car or turn it on over 2 months. While talking to Bob and his x wife Bob said, he didn't even look at my car himself. Asking his wife why this kid said I needed all these things. Bob also said he fired that kid who looked at my car. That made me so uneasy! I thought the owner would have looked at my car at some point after it being there so long. Also when I get to the shop to get my car I get told Bob has heart failure. Nothing was mentioned to me about that, I was told every one had covid. Still doesn't explain why nothing was.done on my car before everyone got sick. I feel I am out of a car now. I can't stop crying. I told Bob my car wasn't doing this when I dropped it off and he barked at my friend who asked same thing and replied saying "well it is now".... what kind of answer if that. My car has been in your car for so long. My car just shook. The running of my car, the engine was good. They wouldn't even answer my phone calls. I have NO IDEA what happened. I wish it was a different outcome. Their fine now my car is gone. But now this broke single mother is out a car wondering if I should just junk it now. P.s. if they didn't want to do the work, or paperwork I would have much appreciated the notice. I would have got my car out of there. Maybe my car wouldn't be in the shape it is now. What if I got in an accident just trying to pull out of their shop? I had no brake and can't turn the wheel all while my engine feels like it's jumping just to not die in the middle of the road..... I'm sorry it had to be this way. I'm expecting a horrible response. But I've done nothing by cry over this. I'm not sure what I did to be out a car after all of this. Had called bobs looking to replace my passenger side wheel bearing.(I was hearing rotational noise from my passenger side) When i brought the car in they said that it wasn't my right side wheel bearing, but my left side. After 3 days, i go to pick the car up and bob takes it for a test drive. When he came back he said that the passenger side wheel bearing was making a little noise and had to be replaced for another 400$. Upon driving the car home, i realized that the noise didn't fade at all, it sounded the exact same. I am assuming they changed the wrong bearing or didn't fix it at all. DONT bring your car here! read more

I have used Bob's Auto Repair for the past 10 years to repair and maintain all of our vehicles, some foreign, some domestic. I keep going back because of their honesty and reasonable rates. Has every repair gone according to plan? No, but that is to be expected on vehicles with over 200,000 miles. They have always explained my options and distinguished between work that is necessary and work that is optional. Has every repair been 100% successful the first time? No, but that is also to be expected on older vehicles with multiple electronic sensor systems. I have never felt like I have overpaid for the work done or the time spent on the repair. My only complaint would be that some repairs have taken longer than I was led to believe they would. That issue seems to have gone away in the past year. Bottom line: this is a repair shop that I recommend to anyone who asks. read more

We are so done with this place. We used to use Bob for everything but over the years, it's become terrible. If you have an emergency, it could take days to get your car in or maybe it will go in but it will sit there for days. Either way, takes a long time. Last time in, it took three separate trips in to get it fixed right. Other people's complaints about cost are all true. The final straw was a brake problem. What started out as a simple fix ended up costing over $600. After the car came back with a front brake hose replaced. The brakes were soft. Sent it back in and was charged to bleed the line. Anybody knows if you replace a hose, you have to bleed the whole system. This should have been part of the initial repair but noooooo a separate job for another charge. I was furious and am now done with them. Half a$$ job and then the nerve to charge me to fix it right. He does have multiple added costs.."shop fees", "hazardous waste handling" that all add up. A separate charge to diagnosis the problem? Isn't that part of the repair? and they will rip you off on core charges too. When they present you with the long list of "other" things that need fixing, they act annoyed if you choose not to have them fixed. There are far better shops around. We no longer trust this place and won't go there again read more

Yes they fix the car BUT get ready for a huge bill. Not only for the work that they do but they will try to get you to fix a whole laundry list of things that you didn't come in for. They will also nickle and dime you with misc. expenses such as "shop fees" and "hazardous waste disposal" ON their discount coupons, you have to present before the work is done. Guess what... the bill just grew by the cost of the coupon. On parts, they will charge you full price on items that have a core charge and keep the difference if you don't say something. Also on parts, they do not try and save you money and will say "part only available from dealer" if they can't get it the same day from local parts store. All in all the word around town is if you go there, get ready for a $600 dollar bill on anything. Go to B&B Auto Clinic. They're honest and they wont try and run up the bill. A little over a year ago, I was recommended to Bob's Auto Repair, in Georgetown, Ma, by a trusted, well respected friend, after I had inherited a car from a lost loved one, that was in dire need of service. When I walked into the waiting room, I noticed all of the certifications recieved by Bob and his staff, which I found impressive and very comforting. I asked to speak with Bob regarding my car's ever-spiraling problem with overheating. and he kindly took the time to come into his waiting area, and discuss the options I had to resolve the issue, one of which, would be very expensive, the other, if I was lucky would correct it, and would be a more affordable option for me, as I am a single mother, struggling to make ends meet. He agreed to try the second option, and had my car for a few days, while the repair took place, and was performed, by his extremely courteous, professional and experienced staff, under his guidance. I was then contacted and told my car was ready to go. When I went to pick it up, I was pleasantly surprised to find my car in perfect working order, very clean (no handprints, etc), and the charge was very reasonable, considering the time it took to perform the service required. I would eagerly recommend Bob's Auto Repair to anyone needing any kind of repairs done on there vehicle, and offer a 5 star rating to the entire shop. I have to think that the only reviews here are from the owner(s) themselves. A good friend of ours referred us to Bobs in Georgetown about a week ago as my father was having some sputtering and stalling with his car engine and needed it looked at. We did some minor repairs ourselves but no luck, so we brought it to Bobs, who was said to be very honest and reliable, by our friend of course. The car was dropped off first thing Monday morning, expecting some news by Tuesday night the latest...right? Wrong. After many phone calls and dancing around, the car was finished Friday night after-hours. Keep in mind the shop didnt call us once the entire week! Bob was nice enough to replace a $.50 cent piece of vacuum hose that was cracked for $225, which did'nt fix the problem at all! Still sputtered and stalled on the way home. The charge was for his "in depth" diagnostics of the situation and about 10 minutes of labor that took him 5 days. I'm absolutely disgusted by this, and its not even my car! Its a shame when an honest, hardworking individual like my father gets taken over the coals like this. Bob my friend, you should be ashamed of yourself. I welcome a reply, or should I say.... We gave Bob's a few chances to service our cars. Unfortunately, each time we left disappointed. Prices are very high. That includes services we had done (such as oil changes) and estimates for other work. Another shop in town has quoted us $300 less for a service we currently need. When we questioned Bob's about the high price of their estimate, we were told the part was very expensive. Apparently, the other shop was able to find it at a significantly less expensive price. And now I question the expensive services we did pay for over the past year. Well, lesson learned. We won't be going back. read more

I would leave no stars if possible. WATCH OUT FOR THE HIDDEN CHARGES! I walked in told the owner what the problem was and the part needed. He said he still had to diagnose with machine to confirm. I said OK. He came back with the exact problem I stated I had. He agreed to do the job replace a $20.00 part in one half hour for 178.00. I said fine and I was happy to have it done, the trouble started when he told me it would $100. for the twenty minutes it took to diagnose the problem. A special add on! When I questioned the price, he said "Ok I won't charge you, but I won't do your work." Oh and if you use him, be prepared to listen to him brag about his healthy lifestyle and good eating habits! It is laughable that you feel you need to pose as a customer to advertise for yourself and try to tear down a good family business...talk about honesty! Obviously someone is feeling a little insecure. You practically just wrote a list of complaints people commonly make about garages IN GENERAL and so "creatively" applied it to Bob's Auto. Cute prank, but I think Bob's customers can attest to the honest, generous, and professional spirit of Bob and Bob's Auto Repair. I'll even tell you HONESTLY--I am Bob's daughter. Maybe you think he put me up to this--nope. He told me he was listsed on Yelp and a customer wrote a really nice review, but someone else wrote something completely ridiculous. I checked it out and decided to respond on my own accord because I was raised with a "fairness complex." When I see someone trying to hurt someone else out of spite or no good reason, my fairness meter goes off and I feel compelled to say something. You also may think I must be biased, right? Sure, but I can tell you how many family trips were cut short or not even started because someone might call on a weekend with a car emergency and both my parents would go in to help. They drive customers home or pick them up if they are local and don't have a ride...who else does that? I certainly doubt B&B would care. They go in early and stay waaaay late, just to accommodate their customers who might come by a bit late to pick up or drop off a vehicle. They offer discounts and coupons, and honor them FAIRLY. Those misc. expenses are shown on your bill, rather than hidden and built in to the cost of repairs (those charges are typical for any garage, but most of them won't show you, as far as I understand), and those costs are not there to nickel and dime you, they are actual costs of the labor and materials it costs to fix your car (not to maintain the shop, but fix your individual car). Sounds pretty fair and honest to me. My father is an honest man. He raised me to be honest. He trains his employees to be honest, and if he finds they aren't, he replaces them immediately. He does not settle for shoddy work or poor service, and he does not ever cheat anyone. He is a strong supporter of the community, helping kids at the local schools (he was a judge at the science fair one year for example) as well as young mechanics trying to get a good start or stay out of trouble. My father is also very competitive and wants to be the best at his craft (his many awards and honors and years of service prove he is the best), and best in business, and he will not get there by cheating. He and I used to play video games together...that was our thing...but he would never allow us to use cheats. He doesn't believe in it, not in any aspect of his life. So when someone wants to throw a bunch of slander around to make themselves look better, I am just laughing because I know how wrong and dishonest it is. And if you notice, Bob's Auto Repair won't do that. Note that I never tried to insult B&B or try to make something I said about them look like it was absolute fact. I won't play that game, nor will my dad, Bob. He is always going to be the best because he simply IS. He doesn't need to put anyone else down to prove he is. Nice try, Bill B., but you don't fool me. Now if anyone has a real, actual negative review based on actual customer experience, you have every right to post and no one would dare say anything about it (at least no one on behalf of Bob's Auto). Hopefully your experiences with Bob's are nothing but positive, but as with any other person or business, being the best comes from learning our strengths AND learning where we need to make improvements. No, I am not a family member, nor do I have any "special interest" in writing this review. Important to note, you will not find ANYONE on this planet who is more particular when it comes to customer service than me. Having said that, Bob(& his crew) did a piece of work for me a number a months ago that still amazes me. I brought him a motorcycle sidecar to be custom painted. I was told(by the friend who referred me) that Bob is meticulous and will accept nothing less than perfection. That's exactly what I received- and then some! The finished piece was awesome and at a price that no one came close to. I get compliments on the finished piece all the time. The color match to my 1998 motorcycle was exact. Moreover, Bob went the extra mile by helping me (I actually wasn't much help) put the sidecar back together, which was no easy task. He even took me to a nearby hardware store to get the needed supplies to put the sidecar back together. I was blown away by the service the service and expertise delivered by Bob and his crew. I use this garage all the time, and they are very good! I have an old Saab that is pretty persnickety to find parts for and fix. I have never had a bad experience with this business that would make me go elsewhere . They even fixed my motorcycle! As far as parts and prices, there can be differences, but these guys work with you to get parts that are available and in the right price (at least they do with me). They are very good at diagnosing problems. read more

Took my 2011 Subaru Outback to the dealer last weekend for an Oil Change and to diagnose a sound I had started hearing from what sounded like the front wheel. After two hours of sitting at the dealer they came back and said I needed a new transmission. My gut told me that after 74k miles that I would have some other indicators that their diagnosis was correct. So for a second opinion I took the car to Bob and we went for a drive so he could hear the sounds for himself. Within a minute he was identifying the issue as my hubcaps rubbing against my new tires and we went back to the shop, he removed all my hubcaps and the car was completely silent as we went around the side streets of Georgetown. So instead of paying more than I owe on the car for an unnecessary transmission replacement Bob was able to identify and resolve my issue in just a few minutes.
