Little hole in the wall spot in Charlotte. Came for a lunch break during a job and it was very good food. Simple and good flavor. Had a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Seems the sides are obviously frozen but still okay. Burger was very good. Big portion and great flavor. Just a good burger.

5 wings and fries for only $10.50. Awesome price.

Food is seasoned excellent. Very tasteful and they give aloe of food for great prices. Their service is good and very fast. The ambiance is a little low but it works. They are packed away in a corner almost. It's one of the best take out spots in Charlotte. My only negative is that they are very stingy with their condiments. 5 whole wings and only one small ranch. But they do give unlimited hot sauce and seasoning salt from the bottles at the register.

Been past this place almost daily for five months, figured it was worth a go out of convenience if nothing else. I'm still not sure what all the breakfast options are but I am convinced that most can be had with a pile o' taters in one form or another... Asked for a breakfast sammich: fried bologna on toast and basically responded in the affirmative to all inquiries about condiments, toppings, and sides: ended up plus an egg, mayo, mustard, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and maybe a squirt of ketchup with a generous portion of fried potatoe chunks with onion for less than $10... got to work and had no takers for a split so I wound up with way too much breakfast. not going to drive 500 miles for this but it was still quite good and a great value. home fries may not necessarily be from YOUR home but somebody obviously makes them this way. toasts are real breads, thick slices lightly browned, absorbent, and pliable. eggs are scrambled extra-medium, cooked through but still a little floppy :-) condiments and toppings add interest and some textural cues but they are best suited to flavorizing. yea tomatoes and mayo!!

    Bacon cheeseburger with everything.

We stopped after playing hornets nest- we were the last order of the day. The burgers were AMAZING!!!! Huge, juicy and the fries were hot- everything was great. Our order for four adults was $44 and ready in ten minutes. Everyone had fries or onion rings and one had a double-It was amazing. Thanks!

Pile'em up Bob's is another spot that's been around forever. They've changed over years as far as management as the original owner was known to 'pile' your plate up with food to the point that it would barely close if it closed at all. They're known for the burgers and fish, but they also sell breakfast food, subs, hot dogs, gizzards and the usual artery clogging foods. I was sad to see that the new owners use what seem to be frozen burgers now but the original owner made the real deal homemade burgers from ground meat. The food is still good and the portions though not as huge as before, is still quite a bit of food. It is completely take out only and they do take debit cards($5.00 minimum). As an fyi, if you're fearful of going to the hood this may not be the spot for you.

One of the best " hole in the wall" spot, if you not from the queen city and want a piece of its culture then this is a must stop. They cook it fresh so there is a little wait but your taste buds will thank you. There is no sitting down so you know the have to cook good for people to keep coming back.

Nice Burger, and a good amount of onion rings.

Ok, so I moved to NC 9 months ago. My Dad calls me and asked me if I have tried "Pile Them Up", before. I said "No, what is that???" He said, it's a Mom/Pop type place with no seats, where they "pile up" the food. I said that's cool, but is it good??? He insisted that it was, so we decided to go there when he came into town. So off we go to Pile Em Up. Easy enough to locate. When we walked in, there is a sizable waiting area and the menu signage is very basic/economical. The employee was nice enough. We had a group of 6, so there was a variety of items ordered. I ordered a basic bacon cheeseburger. It was ok, but I rated it a 6. Mainly because the burger (itself) was a little dry (so I'm glad i asked for ketchup & mustard) and the lettuce had no crunch. The lettuce was just there for show/color. But the good thing about the burger was that it was a decent size and it had a good amount of REAL bacon on it. I got onion rings with mine, and yes.... I got a "good" amount. Other items that were ordered were chicken tenders, flounder, liver & gizzards. Listen............ I'm not going to rate the liver or gizzards because I DONT GET DOWN LIKE THAT!!! I refuse to eat either. I remember then both making me sick as a child, so as an adult, I now have a choice not to eat them..... so I wont. LOL BUT, from what I was told, both were decent, 6-7 range. My daughter had chicken tenders and said they were pretty good. The looked pretty standard. I tried my Dad's flounder, and I have to say that I wish I had ordered that. I thought it was cooked very well. They were tender and juicy.. and his order came with a good amount of food. Everything was cooked fresh and came out hot. The prices were very fair. It costed me $60 for 6 people to order an entree and a soda. I'm not mad at that. But I will say, even thought I felt I got my money's worth, with a name like "Pile Em Up", I was expecting MASSIVE quantities. **From what I have heard/read, this place has had various name changes (but now it says "Bob's) AND used to be known to really pile the food up to where your containers were tough to close...... but those days are over. Either way, try it out if in the area. I had to drive about 35 minutes to get there, so I will never drive that far just to go there again...... especially when you have to go someplace else (or your car) to eat it. This spot wasn't bad at all, I just gave it a 2 based on the description of a 2 rating (Meh. I've had better). By the way, I noticed a 98.5 health rating posted on the wall....... pretty good for a hole in the wall spot. :)

Sometimes simple of the way to go. Lettuce, American Cheese, tomatoes, crinkled pickles, onions, and their "good good sauce." This all came together with the 100% premium angus beef (antibiotic and hormone free) smash-burgers perfectly cooked. The fried were very good, nicely crispy, but not overdone. Service was friendly and very quick. I highly recommend this place if you want a great burger.

Optimist Hall itself is a very food-centric, upscale food hall with a ton of vendors, so the atmosphere is energetic and fun. Seating can be a little challenging during peak dinner hours since so many people are grabbing food from different spots, but when the weather is nice there's plenty of outdoor seating. Harriet's keeps their burger formula refreshingly simple. It's a classic smash burger done right--made to order with a straightforward menu that doesn't overcomplicate things. There's usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly, and the burgers come out hot and fresh. One of the best parts of eating here is the flexibility of the food hall experience. While you're waiting, you can grab a craft beer, a glass of wine, or even browse for dessert from one of the other vendors. Insider tip: Come with a group if you can. It's a great place to share fries and let everyone explore different vendors around the hall. Parking is fairly easy with the nearby garage, which makes the whole experience even more convenient. Overall, Harriet's is a fun, delicious stop for a smash burger, especially if you're already enjoying the energy of Optimist Hall.

As a West Coast transplant now living in Charlotte, I have very specific standards when it comes to…read moreburgers. For me, the gold standard isn't fancy -- it's balance. Think that perfect meat-cheese-bread ratio you get at an In-N-Out: not too big, not too messy, not dripping everywhere, but still juicy and satisfying. A burger you can actually pick up and enjoy without resorting to a knife and fork like George Costanza. That's why I appreciate Ace No. 3. Their menu is refreshingly simple -- burgers, fries, shakes -- and that simplicity tells me they know exactly what they do well. Everything is made to order, and the consistency shows. The Ace burger is my go-to, and it delivers every time. The shoestring fries are excellent, and the sweet potato tots are another favorite. I've also treated myself to a milkshake here and there, and they're worth it. Fun bonus: they offer "boozy shakes" for adults, which adds a playful twist -- just note they have to be enjoyed on site. They also keep a short, rotating list of beers, which I appreciate. It's curated, not overwhelming. One thing I noticed recently -- and as a fellow marketer, I have to applaud this -- is their milkshake happy hour from 2-4 PM. That's a smart strategy to drive traffic during slower hours between lunch and dinner. Simple, effective, and well executed. A few practical notes: Parking can be a little tight because the lot behind the restaurant is small, but if you go during off-peak hours or order ahead for pickup, it's manageable. The Belmont neighborhood location is easy to get in and out of, and while it's not a high-traffic pedestrian area, that can actually work in your favor. Bottom line: As someone who grew up with West Coast burger culture, this is the closest I've found in Charlotte to that classic, satisfying bite -- even if it costs a bit more than In-N-Out. The quality and execution make it worth it. Get out there, eat well, be curious -- and follow me as I continue eating my way through Charlotte.
