Came to their last night of the food truck at free range, our first stop of the night and it did not disappoint. I'm so happy we came the owner is always cool to chat it up with and makes the entire experience worth while! Love supporting black owned businesses with superb service!

Insta brought me through and Darius sealed the deal. The food was Goodt! I didn't know that it was in 7th street market but It was a low-traffic day so I didn't mind. We wanted fish. Good NC fish and that's what we got. Huge chunks of Golden deep-fried (YES, mind ya own arteries) fish and piled high. The seasoning, moisture, and filet size was awesome. It came with a Cajun tarter and hot sauce. A side of greens (no meat) which were delectable and we got fries which were fried in pork fat (beware) which were delicious too. The Bubba chunks (hush puppy) with cinnamon butter was delightful. Unique spin with whole kernel corn. I wish they had a tad bit more seasoning like garlic and onion powder though. All in all it was delicious.

For folks who like chicken gizzards Go HERE! LOL Hubby had the fish sammy with potato wedges and scarfed it down! I also had the Pea Fritters - if you like falafel you'll like this and it was yummy! We spoke with owner who was very nice and gave us a lil history of being from Virginia and fusing many cultures together but with their twist! Oh yeah the stewed greens were delish too! Saturdays are busy at 7th street market so it's nice that this place offers reserved seating for their customers since the place was packed! Hubby also had the Sorrell Juice (house made fresh) and enjoyed that also.

Phenomenal fish sandwich! I had the Uncle Gene's fish sandwich for lunch and I could not stop saying how good it was. We went for a last minute lunch, arriving as soon as they opened and getting first in line (yes there was a line). After about 10 mins my sandwich was ready. Piping hot and delis. The buns were lightly toasted, fish fried to perfection and seasoned in such a balanced way. The slaw was tangy but just what rhetorical sandwich needed. I would say in the future, in order to take my time and not have a soggy second half I would get the slaw on the side. Otherwise, whatever else was on the sandwich only enhanced it. My friend had the fried shrimp combo and kudos for the plump and delicious shrimp. Nothing was skimped on in either dishes and I will be back!

I must admit I was brought here by an instagram post going around and will say that just like the post, the food is as good as it appears people! Ok so let's start here, it's inside of a food hall located uptown: don't let parking sway you as the parking garage right by it is validated for up to 90 mins! So make sure to take your ticket with you inside to get it taken care of. So I went inside and it was the first restaurant on the right. Not only did the sign bring me this way but the amazing smell! I ordered a little bit of everything. The Uncle Genes Fish Sandwich, the mama dukes fish plate and the bunba chucks!! This was for 2 and I must say it was prepared quick and the smell was distracting as I tried to take it home and not devour it right in the car. Lol. Everything I ate from the fish, the pea slaw, the potato thingies, the bunba chucks, it was one satisfying taste after another. You will not leave disappointed at all. The only thing is the sand which didn't come with any true toppings which we had to doctor up at home but it was still pretty satisfying. Would love to try it as it comes in the pictures.

I loved this place! I got the fish sandwich and it was HUGE, so filling and delicious! I also got some of the bubba chucks and they were delicious too! Service was excellent and welcoming!

Just know that instead of reading the reviews on this page, you should be instead driving to or at least planning your visit to Jimmy Pearls. This place needs to be on your radar - Now! The menu boasts of southern fare with Virginia Soul. We went here for our anniversary dinner and as low key as this place this, the food is nothing less than Stellar! Every.Single.Bite! The food is perfectly seasoned and has amazing balance of textures. The fish sandwich - you guys, it is what a foodie dreams are made of. The best you'll find in Charlotte. And that's on Mary had a little lamb. The field pea slaw - mind blowing. I love kale but raw it can be quite bland. But in this dish, it's pure love. Also ordered the box of yock - not really knowing what to expect, as I've never had it before but it was savory and delicious. Tender bits of meat and greens mixed in with noodles. Can't wait to come back! The Chefs here know what they are doing and it shows in the food.

Uncle gene's cod fish sandwich + seasoned fries
    Saniqua P.

I'm saying it right now and I won't hear any objections: Jimmy Pearls has THE BEST fish sandwich in Charlotte! I've been familiar with the extremely talented chefs behind Jimmy Pearls but hadn't been to 7th St since they opened a stall. They will now quickly join my regular rotation of weekly take-out. I do need to note that they are open for dinner 4-7, however, the market closes at 5 p.m. I note this because the market CLOSES its doors at that time. Thankfully, JP's stall is right by the door and they can see anyone trying to come in but it's still very awkward. You're able to order either in person or online via their website. Okay back to the sandwich, I ordered the famous Uncle Gene's sandwich (you have choice of cod or trout) and chose the trout with a side of seasoned fries. The total time it took was around 8-10 minutes and I was out the door. Once I got home, I was delighted to see that my sandwich looked exactly like it does in their IG pics. The fish (and it's a large portion of fish) is topped with field pea slaw on a brioche bun which, I have discovered, makes all the difference! The sandwich was well seasoned as were the fries. I did put my fries in the air fryer just to warm and crisp them back up (due to the drive home) and everything was delicious. I look forward to trying everything else on the menu!

After seeing their fish sandwich all over Instagram, we had to come in and check it out before they left 7th street market. Covid-19: you can order and pay online. They do curbside pickup too. We got the Uncle Gene's Fish Sandwhich (Corvina, Fried), Chesapeake Chick, Sweet Pea, and Bubba Chucks. The Chesapeake Chick chicken sandwich was my favorite! It was super crispy and I loved the seasoning. I really enjoyed the fish sandwich. I wanted it to be crispier though. Others I saw looked crispy so I think we picked the wrong fish for what I was looking for. The field pea slaw on top was delicious. The Sweet Pea was good, but I wasn't a fan of the bread it was served on. It tasted like a whole wheat pita and it was really dry. Both of the sandwiches came with two pieces of fish/chicken. They were huge and great for sharing. Get to 7th street market before 2/27 to check them out or follow them on Instagram to see where they are next!

Field pea slaw. Need a bigger serving. It's that good.

I wanted to rate this 4 as penalty for not giving me more of that field pea slaw! I was trying to be good and got my catfish grilled. Daryl, co-owner said it was good fried or grilled. I can't verify that, but let me tell you, the grilled was the best I've ever had. The roasted potatoes are fried in pork fat...yes! It was all served piping hot. lastly, their special sauce is just delicious. I actually got a taste of their special seasoning and he shared the secret ingredient which I'll never tell. It wa the right amount of spice without oversalting, a unique touch these days. Do yourself a favor and get down here.

Box Uh Yock! With the wind losing it's kind today I wanted something nice and warm! Keep up the good work!!
    Denise H.

Listen it's already gotten 5 stars from me bc the food and customer service is great! I just came back to say-if you don't like heat...don't get the greens bc they have some kick to them. Really Good! But certainly a kick. That is all. Still 5 stars!

Ok so we walked right past this place when we entered the market. The customer service was top tier. We got the famous fried catfish sandwich with a side of greens and shrimp with grits. As a few reviewers have mentioned, the bottom bun on the sandwich is very soggy because the sauce is on the bottom bun and the pea slaw is on top of the fried catfish. I didn't really care for the bottom bun and would actually suggest putting the sauce on the top bun. The grits were a little too runny but Hubby ate it anyway. Those cornmeal nuggets with the honey butter was the best thing EVER. You absolutely have to get those! All together the food was really good. And the sorrel juice was really good, ask for a sample.

    Carol R.

Five star food and service. The fish sandwich is incredibly tasty. The fish rotates daily and we happened to come on catfish day. Score! The only issue with the sandwich was the bottom bun gets soggy from the sauce. No biggie though, used a fork.

I went here for the first time the other night while searching for a healthy meal. The atmosphere was very laid back with relaxing lighting & a spacious patio space as well. It's a market too so they have multiple refrigerators with bottled & canned drinks you can grab and go with. They also have a full bar. Currently I'm trying to stay away from fried food & Red meat so I wanted some chicken. The only chicken dish was a dish with fried chicken. I opted to get a veggie and grains bowl & added roasted chicken thighs. The dish came with quinoa, beats, & sweet potatoes. I also got a side of Brussel sprouts which were ok at best (needed to be cooked just a little longer). Outside of that, the dish was really good & filling. I'll definitely be back. Also one thing to add, I initially ordered the dish with fried chicken & was told that the fried chicken could be substituted. After I paid, the manager came over & explained that the dish couldn't be substituted for grilled chicken & worked with me to get something that I actually wanted, that's how I ended up with the bowl. So great service on his part.

Last year, I had a sandwich in Spain that I haven't been able to stop thinking about. I've tried several places around Charlotte looking for something similar, but nothing came close. The result completely exceeded my expectations. It captured everything I loved about the original while adding its own Charlotte twist. It was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've had. As a San Francisco Bay Area foodie who's been steadily eating my way through Charlotte, I had…read morebookmarked Lee's Sandwiches and was excited to finally give it a try--and overall, it did not disappoint. The concept is refreshingly simple: a straightforward menu of banh mi sandwiches, summer rolls, chips, and prepared foods ready to go. They also offer beer on tap, traditional Vietnamese iced coffee and tea, and fresh fruit smoothies. No frills--just solid, approachable Vietnamese fare. I ordered the #8 Chinese barbecue (char siu) banh mi and requested light pâté and extra vegetables. The sandwich was made to order and came out quickly. One of the owners kindly let me know that pâté typically isn't included on that particular sandwich and didn't charge me for it, which I appreciated. The sandwich itself was good, reasonably priced (around $8-9), and filling. I also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee, which delivered exactly the caffeine kick I was looking for. It wasn't overly sweet, had beautifully crushed ice, and came with a proper lid--not the plastic film seal you sometimes see at boba shops. Combined, the sandwich and coffee came to about $15, which felt like a great value. The interior is charming and thoughtfully designed. There's a small tuk-tuk display with retail items, traditional Vietnamese decor like bamboo hats on the walls, and even a seating area with low stools that gives a nod to the street-side dining style you'd find in Vietnam. I also loved the creative touch of repurposed Café Du Monde coffee cans holding napkins and chopsticks--simple, clever, and memorable. One small note for authenticity seekers: as someone who grew up with traditional Vietnamese cuisine, I've been searching for the classic old-school imperial rolls made with rice paper that fries up bubbly, crispy, and slightly chewy. The owner confirmed what I've been noticing--that many restaurants in the Charlotte area adapt recipes to American tastes, so that particular style is harder to find here. It wasn't a dealbreaker, just an interesting cultural observation. For my personal taste, the char siu wasn't quite as rich or fatty as the Chinese barbecue versions I'm used to, and the pâté had a slightly bitter note. Next time, I'll likely try the lemongrass pork banh mi and skip the pâté altogether. Insider tip: This is a great spot for a quick, affordable lunch with authentic flavors and fast service. The iced coffee alone is worth the visit. Overall, a cute, well-run neighborhood shop with solid value, friendly service, and a menu that does a few things well. I'll definitely be back to continue exploring the offerings.
