Update on my last review. Bob needs to retire. He convinced me to have a new HVAC unit installed. It's a great unit but his installer is not certified on the unit and screwed up the installation. Over the course of the next 6 months, I had Bob come out 3 times because of various problems as the weather changed and the system would not work. That alone was bad enough, but The last straw was in July when my AC just stopped. Bob blamed it on my smart thermostat (he doesn't know how to operate them or install them....I had to do that) The next day, w no AC I called out another certified tech who found my drain pan filled w water due to wrong installation so it had kicked in the shutoff valve. 4" of water had to be removed from the attic! At least the drip pan worked. Bob showed up at the same time and got pissed off, but then promised to reimburse me for the repair he had missed the day before. How can you not see 4" of water in a brand new drip pan?! I sent him a bill and never heard anything back. He reneged on his promise to make it right. The whole experience was a major pain. We wouldn't use Bob for anything again. read more

My air conditioner was struggling to keep up during hot days, and wasn't even keeping up at night. I called Bob based on the excellent Yelp reviews. He came out, checked my AC system, and said the cause was a dirty AC filter. I changed it, monitored it for several days, and it still wasn't cooling enough. Called Bob again, he came out and basically said my AC was working perfect, most people would be lucky to have an air conditioner working this well, and it must be all in my head. A month later, I still knew something was wrong with the AC. Called Royal Aire, who checked the system and found it was 2 lbs low on refrigerant. They charged it up, and now it works perfectly. I cannot recommend Bob, based on his overlooking something as basic as a low refrigerant level. read more

This happened during the week of the devastating Camp Fire, and my town of Paradise fire captain husband (of course) was working while all this was happening, so I was expecting not to have anyone out to look at our unit for at least another week. I called Bob's HVAC at 4:30 pm on Monday, and he was out here the very next morning, first thing, to take a look at our heating system that was blowing only cold air. He was quick, courteous, and so understanding regarding our predicament! It turns out that the hi-limit part was broken and it would take 5-7 days to get that part ordered with $15 for shipping, OR, we could overnight it for $100 shipping. (We decided to save the money and be cold for the week.) The funny thing though, was that he recognized his own work from the LAST time something happened with our unit, years ago, and we had dubbed the broken part, the "flux capacitor" (from Back to the Future fame). It was great that he remembered that silly name and that he remembered us from before! Then we had a good conversation regarding how important a good sense of humor is these days. He's a super nice guy who will definitely go out of his way to help a family out. So. Nice. Anyway, he kept me updated on the part, via texts, and was out here again the very next Tuesday to replace the part, quickly and with no nonsense. Oh glorious warm air, blowing in my house! So happy now, so thankful for this man, Bob. Thank you the most-est! read more

AC stopped working today, Chico in late June. He showed up on time a couple hours after we spoke, diagnosed the problem immediately. He didn't have the replacement part with him, returned a half hour later with it, installed quickly, and the AC unit was working again same day. Great price, very nice guy, thank you! read more

I called and left a message a little after 8am on a Wednesday. I had already called several other companies. None of them could come out any earlier than Friday. We have a special needs child who must be in an air conditioned setting. So, needless to say, we were in an emergency situation. Bob called me back at 10:15ish and said he could be there by 12 TODAY! He came out, diagnosed the problem quickly and was able to fix it on the spot. It needed a new motor starter. He arrived at 11:50 and was done by 12:30. And I do believe it was fairly priced. Called at 0845 this morning and Bob came by to take a look at my heater within 15 minutes! My boyfriend was freezing so he started a fire and soon our house was full of smoke. Bob came and opened the damper on our fireplace because my boyfriend left it closed. (Which was not what I had originally called him for lol) so thanks for that!! He gave me some helpful advice on the process of how the heater turns on and what it should do and things that didn't look right etc. Service was quick and efficient. Scrnario: it is 107 degrees and out air goes out. We call Bob and he is at our house in lest that an hour. Turns out our fan motor had died. For me to write a review, the service has either got to be really horrible or fantastically excellent. I'm so happy to write one of the latter for Bob's HVAC of Chico. Our old, very old, a/c unit was acting up for a week and finally just took a dive and started blowing hot air. You get used to living in 100 degree heat here in Chico, but having a 7 month pregnant wife and two little ones, a/c is really important to keep them all comfortable. So the a/c goes out on Thursday, service call placed indicated that they had no openings until Monday. That meant spending the next 3 days in 100 degree heat...not good. When Bob got word of my situation with my pregnant wife & kids, Bob was able to squeeze in some time for us on Friday (the next day). He quickly identified the problem and got the necessary authority from the home warranty company to replace the failed motor & fan blades. All the work was done within the hour and a/c was working again = happy wife & kids = happy me. Bob, the person, was very professional and knew what he was doing. He explained all the issues, what was needed to be done, and what it took to get it done. In summary, Bob took care of everything. All I really had to do was open the door & show him where the unit was. But more importantly for me, he understood the importance of prioritizing his service calls and acted accordingly based on each case. Bob saved us for the 2nd time. The first time, our home warranty service had another company come out. Their "fix" did not work. We called the home warranty back and that same hvac company couldn't come back for 3 days!!! I called Bob - who was referred by quite a few people - and he came out the next morning. Turns out the other hvac company had pumped the a/c FULL of Freon - so much that it may have damaged the unit!! They also clipped the tie on something that had to be kept away from the unit - which created a dangerous situation. Bob got it all fixed and trusted that the warranty company was going to pay him. Day before yesterday, our air went out again - on the hottest day of the year - and he came the next morning. He determined it was low on Freon. Bob's replaced our furnace and AC system in 1 day and less than 36 hours after we called. They went eh extra mile (and in this case 200 + miles) to get all of the parts we needed for a timely and successful installation - When it is 100 degrees Fahrenheit that type of service is much appreciated. John the technician, Charlie and Jared the installers, Bob the owner and Lucy on the phone were all 110% professional and more than competent plus their overall price was fair and spot on. Bob saved the day!! It was Saturday on the 4th of July weekend when my AC decided to play hard-to-get. I had family coming to stay for the weekend, already in transit. The forecast was... well, if you live anywhere in Butte County, you *know.* Panicked and way too hot, I started calling around, doubting I would find someone to come right away on the holiday weekend. The apartments I live in uses Bobs HVAC so I have had to deal with this man unwillingly and on multiple occasions. He is unpleasant and has been disrespectful to myself and my home by speaking condescendingly and doing things like walking in without anyone opening the door for him. He said a wire was loose on our ac and when we inspected it there was a twist tie on some wires. Is that the wire? I do not reccomend this man for any work if you can help it. read more

My fan was blowing 24/7 (while turned off) and only cold air was coming out of the heater. Now my heater works great & my power bill will be less. Bob came to my house and after some talking went up to the HVAC unit on the roof. Came back down in about 30 mins, total time was about 45 mins. Charged $125. As he was leaving he mentioned that the blowers(?) needed cleaning. He didn't note anything on the receipt though, except everything looked ok. My name etc. were also not recorded on the receipt. We were sweating with our AC unit shut off by another company's "repair" man after being told we would be best off buying a new unit for either $8000 or $9000, that would be installed in 2 weeks!! Who wouldn't want that at 100 degrees? Called Bob due to his outstanding Yelp ratings: he was here in 15 minutes, diagnosed and repaired the three problems he found, only one of which (ice around the coil) coincided with what the other guy found. I own a hair salon and when I got to work my heater wasn't working. I called Bob and he showed up within 5 minutes of us hanging up the phone. He greeted me with a smile and I could tell right away that I can trust him. I didn't know where my heater was located in the building and I had a look of concern on my face, but he assured me we would figure it out and get my heater working in no time. When he found the problem it was simply unplugged in the attic. This was done by the neighboring business' contractor the night before. Bob had no problem coming with me to the business next door to locate the contractor to ask him to pay for Bob's services to come out and plug in my heater! lol Coming from a somewhat helpless girly girl when it comes to stuff like this I feel comfortable calling Bob and letting him take care of any heating and air conditioning service I need without being taken advantage of.
