I showed up with a friend for lunch and we both got the 2 slice lunch special. They had some various other lunch specials as well, but I was pretty set on those pizzas. You can put one topping on each of the pizzas if you want or you can just get cheese. The pizza is thin crust and was definitely pretty good. It reminded me of a very similar style to NYC pizza and I prefer that style myself. We also got the garlic knots and they were delicious. Giving Bodacious a 4 but it's closer to a 3.5 for me, and the reason being that the consistency can be a bit all over the place. I have had them several times over the last three months, ordered mostly online on their website and at least one of those times I went in to pickup on the way home. When the pizza is good, it's great, nice chewy crust. Unfortunately that is not always the case, and I have received burnt and bland pizzas from them on occasion. The last time I ordered the other night, two of the slices had crusts that were burnt black, so we had to tear them off. The pastas have been consistently good, very cheesy and flavorful. The chicken and meatball toppings are solid, never gristly, cooked well. I do like that they allow you to substitute the side salads with garlic knots. None of the other local Italian places offer that option that I've found, so this option is really appreciated. Sides such as fries and garlic knots are consistently good. Most desserts are solid, though the smores pizza looked both unappetizing and didn't taste all that great, skip that one. Overall one of the better locally owned pizza joints but is held up more by the side offerings than the pizza. If I were judging on the pizza alone my rating would be closer to a 3 because of the inconsistency. read more

Bodacious Bakehouse is located in the Aragona Village Shoppes in the Aragona area of Virginia Beach. This is located along Virginia Beach Blvd. about a mile or so west of the intersection of Virginia Beach Blvd. and Independence Blvd. My visit to this location was on May 12, 2022. Although this is the first time I have been to this place, I have actually had quite a bit of food from them in the past when they were at my work as a regular food truck visitor pre-pandemic before starting to work from home. My experiences with them as a food truck were phenomenal. They were very popular at my work too. Many of us would always ask if they would be getting a permanent location as well. As we were going into the pandemic, that happened. I did learn that ownership had changed hands, but it was definitely the same Bodacious Pizza that I was accustomed to from the food truck. Fast forward to entering the physical location. It wasn't too busy at the time, but there was a good amount of takeout orders going on. It took us a few moments to look at what we wanted. We were here on a Thursday, so they had a buy one calzone, get one half off special. In the end, my mom and I both went with Pepperoni Calzones to take advantage of the special. After ordering was completed, we went to an open table to wait for the food to come out, as they would bring it to us once it was ready. Several minutes later, the calzones were hot and ready, and they were brought to the table. Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes were already available on all the tables. It was time to dig in. It took a few moments to start as it came out piping hot, which is a great way to get it, especially when it wasn't burnt either. It looked awesome. I was hungry coming in, so I thought I would actually finish the whole thing in this visit. I was wrong. It was very filling and delicious. It definitely reminded me of the pizzas from the food truck days. I was able to devour half of it, and the other half would be eaten a few days later. Overall, this was an excellent experience. The food and service were excellent. I know the decor in there is simple, but it's the food and service that matters more to me. If you are in this area of the city and looking to get some good food, this place is definitely worth coming to. They have more than just pizza items, so be sure to check out the full menu. *New ownership* My husband and I came here on a quick lunch date after my doctor's appointment. We got there just as they were opening their doors. It's a cute little mom and pop shop and reminds me of the ones I grew up with back home. Nothing fancy, just friendly service and some good food. It's a fast casual set up, with the open kitchen, back kitchen and service counter occupying most of the space. There is a seating area to the left if you feel like dining in. I thought I had seen some buzz about baked goods in addition to their great pizzas, so I was super excited to see what they had, so I inquired about them when I didn't see any on display. The woman who helped us informed me that the the business had just been sold and they were in the process of making some changes. So FYI, they are taking away the bakehouse and will only be making cookies, Tiramisu and Banana Pudding. Damn, I was a little disappointed since I am a sucker for baked goods, but this being my first time at the shop, I also can't miss something I've never had. No worries though, we did find other things to enjoy. - Noms - Supreme 18 inch - We're not a fan of black olives so we got it without. This is seriously my kind of pizza. It came out piping hot, and it has that doughy crust, fresh toppings (pepp, sausage, red peppers chunks and FRESH mushrooms) and super cheesy! (Side note: truly appreciated that it was REAL, FRESH mushrooms. I don't know about you, but I've noticed that a lot of pizza joints insist on putting canned mushrooms, like ewww. Mushrooms get a bad rep, but that's not helping the cause, but anyway, that's a discussion better saved for a Talk thread). Ok, back to the pizza, I thought their pizza was great and look forward to trying other kinds of pies on a return visit. They have the classics and other interesting combos like Chicken Bacon Ranch or Philly Cheesesteak pizzas. Chocolate Chip Cookies - I got these to go for the kiddos, but of course this momma charged some Mommy tax! Whaaaat? First...and last...experience with takeout from Bodacious. The pizza--a basic cheese, sausage, onion, pepper, and mushroom pie--was tasteless. Yeah, it was a little cool...no problems, that's what a Saturday night pizza delivery looks like...but when reheated a bit, it was completely lackluster. Also, I'm not sure how they managed to burn the edges of the crust yet have nearly zero cook on the mushrooms and green peppers. Delivery was weird. Grubhub was the service. Dude put the pizza on our stoop, but didn't ring the bell. I only knew it was here because of the doorbell cam motion detector. Seriously...you think putting an unwrapped box of food on the steps is ok? In hindsight, I should have just left that s----y pizza right where I found it. I really love the vegan options available here at bodacious bake house. The vegan Tex Mex pizza is my favorite. At times they will also have vegan treats as well, but not always. My family enjoys their regular pizzas as well. This is not a large place so at times it gets a little crowded with people dining in, ordering take out and picking up orders they placed online. For the most part the service is good. No masks are worn from staff members which was a little bummer but thankfully they offer to go and pick up orders which is what we usually do when we notice masks not being worn - for our safety and theirs. Whenever I visit they have a different special going on and it's well worth the price. I ordered a 10 inch cheese pizza with a side of mozzarella sticks. The proportions are nice so I recommend a 10 inch to fill you up if you're just ordering for yourself . If you're with a party of 2-3 I'd suggest the 16 inch. The downside of my experience was that it was pretty hot in the restaurant and felt kind of suffocating. Another thing was that some of the soda I had was flat. This is a hidden gem! I'd seen good reviews for the past year but it's not a location I typically pass so I just never got around to it. My hubby is a vegetarian and I'm always looking for local owned places that serve fresh delicious food we both can eat. Well this place will be in regular rotation. Came in for lunch on a Saturday, we were immediately greeted by friendly staff behind the counter. This is a smaller pizzeria style/open kitchen restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. An enthusiastic woman who appeared to be a cook asked if we had been there before then asked if there were any vegans in our party. She went on to explain the menu- lots of vegan/vegetarian options with sub sandwiches, pasta, pizza/calzone toppings and appetizers! It smelled delicious in there and although there was only one family seated when we arrived, there was a steady stream of people getting take out. I was starving and would have ordered one of everything if I didn't have my voice of restraint with me reigning me in. The starvation is what made me forget to snap pics for the review. We settled on cauliflower wings with ranch for an appetizer. If you've never had cauliflower wings before and expect them to taste like fried chicken you set yourself up for disappointment. If, like me, you just enjoy well seasoned crunchy crispy cauliflower then these are PERFECT. I wanted regular ranch but was given the vegan ranch which they make in house. Some mistakes are for the best, lol. It was delicious! I ordered an additional cup of regular ranch when I ran out of the vegan cup and though that ranch was also yummy, I think I actually liked the vegan one better. Yes, I'm shocked too. For our meals, hubby had the vegan Philly with real mozzarella and mayo (because he's not vegan and still enjoys occasional dairy). He upgraded to a side of fries (seasoned, crispy, and worth the extra). He ate every bite except for the bites I tasted. I'm very picky when it comes to meat substitute (because I love all food and have no plans on giving up meat). Great texture and flavor. It was yummy enough that I would order it. I had a 10" veggie calzone that was great. It was the smallest size calling option but still too big for me to eat after sharing the appetizer. The crust was cooked gorgeously golden and most importantly the veggies inside (onion, pepper, tomato, mushroom, spinach) were all FRESH. Nothing frozen, canned or premixed. That makes all the difference. Just the right touch of creamy ricotta and generous mozzarella served with a cup of warm marinara. I would give it 9 out of 10. The point deduction isn't truly fair but the reality is with that many veggies in a calzone if you don't eat it fast the bottom can start to get a little soggy. It wasn't enough to stop me from eating any, lol. Even though this is a seat yourself, counter order place, we were checked on frequently. One of the servers who refilled our drinks said she'd remember we were vegetarian not vegan for next time we came back, which I thought was a super nice effort for relationship building. One of the staff members who was also enthusiastic and friendly appeared to be on the spectrum which gives this place extra points in my book. Local small businesses who have inclusive hiring practices are always at the top of my list for where I'll spend my money. We took a vegan cinnamon bun dessert to go. I've only tasted the frosting so far and hope that the rest tastes as good as my sample swipe. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I had heard raves about the food and baked goods. The lunch menu wasn't what I was expecting. Billed as a good place for Vegans, I expected a wider range of salad selections. What I found on the menu were three very ordinary sounding salads, a section of sandwiches and a whole lot of pizza and calzone. Is it just me, or does pizza sound more appealing in the evening? My sister reported that her Triple B, a sandwich with beets, bacon, lettuce and tomato on harvest bread with a basil aioli, was really good. It did look much better than my chicken salad with roasted red potatoes. Mine looked rather sad in its presentation on the plate. Certainly not what I expected.... The Chicken Salad was on the menu as a sandwich. I asked our server if I could have it as a salad. She indicated that lots of people ordered it that way. It would be served on a bed of lettuce and tomatoes. Look at my picture and see what you think. There was too much of the mayonnaise or whatever the salad was mixed with. It sounded so tasty on the menu, but wasn't. I certainly expected the Roasted Red Potatoes to be either whole or halved, not the portion of small diced potatoes that left so much of the plate bare. Service should have been good with so few people in the restaurant. But the two servers talked between themselves behind the counter. I finally had to get up and go to the counter and ask if she had forgotten my iced tea, which she had. And I don't think the tea that was served was the half and half I had requested. It tasted very sweet. The location is the corner of Aragona & Virginia Beach Boulevard. The restaurant faces Aragona. Because of its shopping center location, parking isn't a problem. We were seated adjacent to the window opposite the counter, which felt like a cramped space. We didn't go into the other side of the restaurant, which probably had less of a claustrophobic feel. Came here off the strength of the name alone! Located near my home for the last 3 years, I'm surprised I never stopped here before. Kind of small on the inside. Tables, bathroom, and a small stage to the left with booths and maybe a couple other tables to the right. Once we walked in, we had to wait to be seated due to our large party of 4-6 and there's really no room to wait. Had no choice but to stand near the door in the way of everyone and particularly one waitress who had said excuse me at least 15 times. Either that or we'd have to stand in a single file line, touching one another. Finally seated and the menu options were okay. Not really impressed. I decided on the veggie calzone which I would so order again...but without the veggies. There was just a lot of them plus it wasn't spread out evenly. The breading and cheese were amazing though. Waitress was just okay. Would possibly visit again for a different calzone or a pizza because I just know their breading gets the job done. 3.5 rounded down for now. read more
