Came around 6:30-7pm during the week and waited about 30 minutes for a table. The staff is great, because you can order drinks while you wait in line. Grab a sangria and have a seat while you while for your table. This place doesn't really have much of a menu. You pay a set price and they bring you tapas. THERE IS NO SEAFOOD HERE! Which worked out perfect for me since I don't like it anyway. They bring out different tapas, and if you don't like something, they can switch for something else. Everything was delicious and it was more than enough food for 2 people. The different meats and cheeses were my favorite. We have been traveling Europe for two weeks, eating at the "best" restaurants--bodega biarritz is hands down the best food and most original and inviting ambiance. Ill come back to barcelona just to eat here. They pick your tapas for you and nothing disappoints. Such an experience. read more

I really enjoyed our tapas here! At the entrance, there was a red velvet rope where you were greeted by one of the servers. He tells us they have a secret menu for the day and we said ok! Even though my friend doesn't eat red meat and pork, they accommodated their secret menu. It was 40 euros for 2 people which included an appetizer to share (charcuterie), 8 homemade tapas, and 2 liquor shots. They also had a 50 euro menu but we just wanted to snack on something before dinner. However, we didn't realize we were getting more. The secret menu of tapas included mustard chicken, crispy papas bravos and chicken wings, bbq turkey chunks, pan tomato, salmon, codfish, mushroom, and rice. We also got some cocktails each and they ended our meal with a sweet liquor creamy cognac almost resembling Bailey's Irish cream. Everything was delicious! I am so glad we decided to stop by here. Our servers were excellent Nisa and the funny guy. The restaurant is small but the ambiance is a little quirky yet sexy with red lights and secret doorways. My husband and I came for an early dinner at 5pm on a Sunday in March and were seated immediately. It is narrow inside, a small restaurant that is not good for kids or babies because it's set up like a bar and there's not much room. We got the set menu where you pay 30 Euros for 2 people and you get 2 mini appetizers and 8 tapas items. It also came with tiny shot glass aperitifs at the end - boy were they alcoholic and strong! We were very pleased with the food. It was a good value and everything was tasty. If you're vegetarian or have any other food restrictions or preferences, you can tell your server and they'll choose accordingly. They try to pick a variety so that you get to try all their best offerings. If they ring you a tapas dish and you don't like the description or look of it, tell them immediately and they'll pick you another one instead. read more

Had the option 2 which they bring you 8 different tapas. The only one that stood out for flavor was the Turkey skewer. My opinion, but the chef seems to be trying to be creative with ingredients in an effort to stand out in cuisine heaven Barca, but just ends up being random. None of the tapas were bad, just average. This was our favorite restaurant from our whole trip to Spain. Every time we passed by, there was a line out the door! Having been inside, it makes sense because the restaurant is extremely small. This place is incredibly good. You will wait outside for a long time to be seated, but it is worth the wait. When you are seated, the restaurant is narrow, but it's charming and inviting. If you can sit at the counter and have someone explain to you what to order, that would be best. That way you can taste, experiment, and really enjoy yourself. I was looking forward to the reasonably priced seafood tapas, vegetable stew, etc. They were out of every seafood, the stew, etc. I told the waiter I would try another time. When I was preparing to leave, blocked by an annoying "rope line" barrier, the hostess said they had lots of choices, and accused me of just wanting to use the toilet. This small tapas bar was an excellent find in the Gothic Quarter! They serve you an appetizer and then 8 different tapas. They ask if there is anything you don't like or are allergic to, and then they serve the tapas of the day. If there is a dish you don't like then they will bring out something different. This was by far the best tapas restaurant we visited on our most recent trip to Barcelona. And very reasonably priced as well. We stumbled upon this place just after opening, so there was luckily no wait. It's not your typical sit-down restaurant. There are a few small tables, but the majority of the seating is along the bar top. So get cozy and make friends with your neighbors! All of the tapas are laid out in front of you, and the server will grab a massive plate and go down the line with you and explain what each item is, and you basically say yes or no if you want to try that dish. Every menu item we had was amazing; luckily my friends are great at sharing food so we were able to try a variety of items. A word of advice... they will only continue to serve you alcohol if you are eating, so either eat at a more leisurely pace, or order more food ;) PS - CASH ONLY read more

Amazing quaint place! Came here on my first trip to Barcelona! Very small place and uncomfortable sitting but worth it! I believe it seats about 20 ppl. The wait time was about 40mins. This place was highly recommended so decided to just wait it out and have some sangria as we waited. We had to wait for about 10 minutes before we could get in (which we considered a good sign) and the food was SO WORTH THE WAIT! We've been in Barcelona for almost a week now and this has easily been the best meal we've had in Barcelona. We went to Biarritz as a family of 4 around 9PM. They have two bars not too far from each other. One of them only serves parties of 2. So we went to the other one. Seating was quick ~10mins. The place inside was very cozy. In fact, I haven't eaten in a smaller setting ever. We chose option one for the two of us. Kids weren't planning to eat anything. They brought out an appetizer - spinach and cucumber dip with bread. We also ordered some vermut which was superb. The ambience was great and our sever, Sylvia, was awesome. They pre-selected 8 tapas for us - a combination of veggie, chicken and ham. All were well cooked and tasty. My wife does not eat much ham so we appreciated the veggie tapas. Overall, the experience and food was amazing. We were a little apprehensive going into that small bar with kids but everything worked out well. Perfect way to end our stay in Barcelona. read more

The service is good enough, the fellas running the place are friendly, but the food... well it seems like the chef just threw some shit together and said fuck it, let's give it a shot. We picked the fixed menu option #2... they start you off with a ham, tomato bread and cheese plate which was not bad. Second, they serve you a platter of 4 tapas which include a spinach omelette topped with kernels, a turkey skewer, a potato who knows what and some other baked cheesy pie, the only thing good on the platter was the turkey skewer. The final platter with the remaining 4 tapas included a burger, a chicken skewer, potatoes with cheese and one other thing that I don't even remember. They do say if you don't like it they will gladly return it, but we didn't dare do that, instead I just pushed it off to the side of my plate, besides by the looks of things, the tapas bar did not have much to offer. The food here is disappointing for Barcelona... someone help this place out, maybe the folks serving up great food and service across the way could step in. read more

My family and I were told to head to La Ramblas to enjoy some tapas, but after reading the reviews of many of the restaurants we walked past we weren't impressed... After checking TripAdvisor, I heard that "BB1881" was a hole in the wall with the best tapas and experience! We came with a group of 11 and was quoted a 40 minute wait (expect a long wait if you come w a large group, it's really a hole in the wall) but it was well worth the wait!!! We ordered from the available options which was about 27€ that served 2 and came with 8 different tapas. All I can say is that by the 3rd one, I was already getting full!!! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but I was hungry, so we popped in. There's a warning sign that says 'we don't serve seafood.' Well, they don't have to! They have so many great options! I asked Oliver, our sever, to pick 6 of his favorite tapas, and he did not disappoint. I had veal meatballs in port wine, fried chorizo, bbq chicken skewer, eggplant cheese melt, patatas bravas, and a phyllo dough stuffed wimeat, peppers & cheese. Everything just melted in my mouth. After an amazing experience at Vista, across the street from. this place, we thought we'd give Bodega Biarritz a try. There was a line put the door, and at their suggestion we went to the annex restaurant down the street (same name, same menu). We ordered cocktails that were extremely watered down. We were told there were three options - the traditional review what's on the bar and point, or two options where they bring a selection of 8 tapas to you, with or without a cheese and meat board. After our neighbor selected the traditional option but was told they couldn't go to the bar and select their own, we went with the option with the cheese and charcuterie. The manchego was aged and very dry, maybe too dry like it had been sitting out too long. The Iberian ham was good, as was the salami. The pan con tomate was ok, but a little soggy. it had sunflower seeds on top which made me wonder if they weren't trying to add a crunch to compensate. The first five tapas included a decent chorizo, simply grilled, whole. It's hard to mess that up and I'm thankful they left well enough alone there. The other four dishes were less than stellar. First, an attempt at patatas bravas, but more like a package of frozen OreIda wedges microwaved and topped with bad spicy mayo. We could've been in a TGI Friday's, or worse. Second, a cheeseburger without the bun, with some zucchini and eggplant hidden in the patty. I was grateful for that, actually, because the ground beef was tasteless. undersalted for sure, and possibly low quality frozen ground beef? Third, a mushroom flan that was ok relative to these others. Fourth, a spicy chicken thing, on a stick like kebab or stay, but something was just off with the seasoning. Not Spanish.... not Asian... not Indian... not Middle Eastern.... just not sure what it was. At this point we considered our guarantee but didn't send anything back. what could they bring us that we would actually like? instead we ordered wine, a Catalonian Cabernet that was nice enough. Then came our final three dishes. The pan con tomate showed up again but I had a hard time recognizing it because it had gotten so soggy. We were also served meatballs on a stick, underseasoned and again probably frozen like the previous cheeseburger. There was also some kind of nondescript sausage, nothing like the local Spanish sausages. No, this was something that tasted more like mass produced US sausage. both of these were doused in some kind of barbecue sauce. I was pretty grossed out. The last thing on the plate was a heavy, thick and underseasoned tortilla Espanola. It was the best thing on that plate, and that is very sad. We left, sad that with so much Barcelona has to offer food-wise, we had wasted one of our meals here. Que lastima! read more

The fact that it's small translates to a long wait (about 45 min) for us but you can order drinks while waiting in line and they will bring them to you while wait. The tapas were very good and if you have the option to have the server pick tapas for you as surprises - this was very nice as you get to sample many tapas and I think they gave us an extra one :) Service is great, my girlfriend broke her wine glass and they were extremely gracious and nice about it. The only reason that it's 4 starts for us is that the tapas weren't fresh made and were re-heated. read more

Stumbled upon the place during a walk through the gothic quarter. We weren't even that hungry but once we saw the food, we decided to eat. Service was excellent - the woman serving the food was patient with all our questions about the food. It was very quiet when we first arrived so she was devoted in her time with us. Basically, they have lots of individual food items on plates and you choose what you'd like and they'll heat it up for you. Items are categorized (vegetarian, beef, etc.) but they'll happily tell you what's in each one. I can't decide if little signs to alleviate all the questions would be helpful or tacky? Food quality was delicious and we left feeling very satisfied. Prices weren't cheap but they weren't expensive either. Overall, this was a great find on the street. read more

This is a great little restaurant to eat for some delicious tapas! It's another small restaurant that's popular in the area, so we did have a little bit of a wait. Fortunately, the wait was only about 20 minutes. The host came to us to see how we were doing every once in a while to chat. He kept us entertained during our wait. When we were finally seated, we were at the bar and the restaurant was pretty packed. He explained to us how the restaurant worked. After a couple minutes, the waitress came to serve us. All of the food is displayed on the bar. We went down the bar with the waitress explained what was being served. She explained each item that we asked about, then she put anything we decided we wanted on a plate. After we'd chosen what we wanted, she took the plates of our food to the cook to be plated. Everything was plated so nicely, and the food was delicious! I enjoyed our whole meal! We definitely ate with our eyes when we picked out food, so we were completely stuffed by the end of our meal! The only thing I didn't like was having to go behind people while they were eating to choose my food. It felt like it would be a little disruptive having people constantly standing behind you and pointing at the food to choose what they want. But I did really like the concept of being able to see all the food and getting to choose each item individually. It was really a great experience, and the food was delicious! If given the opportunity, I would definitely go back and eat there again! read more

For my last night in Barcelona, I wanted a fitting farewell indulging in a wide array of tapas. Rather than be immersed in Barcelona's culinary heritage, I was transported back to my latest transatlantic flight. Of the 4 tapas "specially curated" for me, 3 reminded me of airline food: bland, tough meats nuked in the microwave, devoid of any description. Seriously, when the waitress brought over my food, she just mentioned what the meats were ("chicken," "turkey," and "hamburger"), not how they were prepared or seasoned. The 4th item was merely a puff pastry with goat cheese, which tasted like a frozen appetizer from the supermarket. I should have paid attention to the restaurant's location in a more touristy part of town or even its sign by the door, indicating that by a certain point the line would be an hour long, almost like Disneyland. I must mention that despite the abysmal food, my waiter was very understanding. The restaurant has a policy where if you don't like any or several of your food items, they will replace them for you. Just mere bites in, I told my waiter I was expecting Spanish tapas and was disappointed in the taste, and that rather than get new tapas I wanted to just try another restaurant. He was very understanding and respectful, and allowed me to return my uneaten meal for no charge. Save the airline food for when you're a captive audience on economy class, skip the wait and go try out real tapas somewhere else. read more

A really nice restaurant in the middle of the city. Conveniently located and the ambiance of the place is very unique. They have three options you can choose from: We chose Option 1: 2 appetizers & 8 tapas for $30. Option 2 was $40 and Option 3 was choosing from individual tapas. Individual tapas range from 1,5-4 euros, but most of them are between €3-4. We were two and option 1 was more than enough. I liked their dessert, crema catalana with baileys. Oliver, who I think is either the manager or the owner of the place, was also very kind. The service was amazing. Their drinks were also very tasty, their house sangria costs €3,5, and mojito €5. We were in Bodega Biarritz 1881 2 years ago and ever since I've been recommending it to any of my friends who went to BCN... ...so when we arrived back this weekend I was a bit scared that i'd built it up in my head a bit too much. Buuuuuuuut... Thankfully I can say it was even more spectacular than I remembered. Kareen and Mark looked after us like consummate pros. "Option 1" - the surprise 8 tapas for €27 were all delicious and the cocktails were as enjoyable as always. It feels quite cheesy to keep banging on about how great this place was, but the fact it was my #1 thing to do upon returning to BCN, and will continue to stay there for every trip back, should tell you all you need to know. Bravo guys. Bravo. EDIT: just coming back to this - seeing a load of shite about it being a tourist trap or the food being worse than an average joint in Vegas. If dining is an experience this might have been my favorite in all of spain. I cannot tell you how embraced we were upon arrival by the host with the glasses. We arrived 630 which was before lunch rush. You get 8 tapas but that does not mean 8 plates like my redneck side was thinking. Even by plate 3 I was starting to wonder if I could do more. You don't get to pick but I promise it's all safe. They state on the menu they will replace anything you don't like. The service was phenomenal. The place is tiny. They get busy quick.
