Ick. Do not go here, it's not worth your time or money. Tapas were a joke, bland and uninspired. Quality was inferior even to airplane or hospital food. Tasted like they were left out on the counter all day and then quickly plated and microwaved. One legit tasted like hamburger helper on soggy zucchini. So we ended up coming here after a long wait at another tapas bar. We waited probably 15 minutes or so, something made easier by the 3,50€ sangria. Once inside, it looked as though they only served two tops. Several small tables and maybe eight bar seats. We were served pretty quickly. Booze prices were good and there were a ton of options. Got some cheap beer (3€) and a mojito (5€) which was maybe culturally an inappropriate choice but delicious nonetheless. Moms showed us our tapas options and there was a good selection, with pork, beef, chicken and vegetable selections. Although I have no idea what the names of what we chose were, everything was good! I especially loved the padron peppers and the zucchini stuffed with beef. It felt like this place wasn't super touristy, although I'm sure it was, but the food was good as was the atmosphere. Deep inside a little valley near Gothic District, you will find this cozy restaurant. It fits around less than 20 people. It's worth every minute of the wait. Try to get there when it opens. The menu is set so it saved us the trouble of which to choose since everything looks so damn good. We opted for option #2. It was good enough to feed two. The dishes were small, but enough to feed two. Not sure how they measure this, but portion side is just perfect. Staff are very friendly. César mixed our drinks to our liking and took the time to explain to us , he made our experience here pleasantly comfortable. All dishes were exceptional. Must visit if you are in this part of Spain. Most of the items are sitting out on large platters without even a sneeze guard or display case. You point to the items, and they are reheated. Can't be very fresh or sanitary. We went here on recommendation from a coworker of mine in the states and it was incredible. It had a long wait as it is very small, but it was so worth it. They have two locations so we went to the second one and had a bit shorter of a wait. You could also have a drink while you wait, but there were only a few places to sit. They had the best mojito I have ever had. There were four of us so when we got in, we ordered 2 of the tapas for 2 meal. I forget what it was called, but you get 8 tapas and split them. We ended up with a total of 16 tapas and almost all were different. They do not sell fish which was nice since almost everywhere else only has fish. Quite the experience. If quimet & quimet is your ultra traditional tapas, bodega is what I'd imagine is the modern version. Both still very fun but here the staff speaks fluent English and French, they are written directions on how to dine, and you don't feel rushed. Cash only is the one thing I wonder about. Anyhow, food is predominant cheese, potatoes and different variants on quiche/meatloaf style tapas. Not alot of meats and no seafood. Because of that I'd give this a 3.5 for food, it's good but I think I made a mistake of ordering alot of what was essentially the same thing. Second, thought it was a bit overpriced for old food that they were reheating. Service is awesome and the experience is fun if you come early. read more

Great food. This place is super small, and the setup is weird. You have to wait outside if they are busy. Then one person comes up to get you drinks. Then another person will ask you what you want to eat (everything is out on the main bar). Then another person cooks it and brings it to you. Overall pretty confusing if you don't know what you are getting into. Also, there are no prices or descriptions on anything, but they do speak pretty good English. I have no idea what I tried, but everything was amazing and the bill for 2 people with a mojito and sangria was $25 (totally worth it). In our first night in town, we tried a tapas bar just off the Royal Plaza (Playa Real). It's called Bodega Biarritz and is insanely small. My apartment living room is almost bigger than the seating space here. Their menu is one of pretty "classic" tapas dishes so a perfect way to start the trip. We started with an order of Patatas Bravas, a stuffed puff pastry and Cod Fritters. Patatas Bravas are fried potatoes covered with a spicy tomato "Bravas" sauce. The sauce is really the thing here.... tangy at first but quite spicy in the finish. The puff pastry is good as well but nothing special. The cod fritters were wonderful - nice, fresh cod meat with a nice crispy exterior. Next up, we ordered meatballs on top of a potato tortilla, grilled sausage and smaller meatballs covered in bravas sauce. Both meatballs were moist and tender. The sausage had a nice kick to it and the potato tortilla was great. Soft interior with a crisp exterior, the texture was much flakier than your usual corn or flour tortilla. Add to all of this some beer and a great Mojito and you have a wonderful introduction to true Spanish tapas. read more

Was flying solo and wandering the small streets of the gothic. Stuck my nose in here and saw some interesting things so decided to stay. Service was friendly. I got what looked like a veggie quiche or maybe some variation on a tortilla I wasn't familiar with. It was oddly wicked in the back from its location on the bar and re emerged a bit fused up. IT was perfectly fine, the sauces on the side were nice. I guess that was it, this place was nice, but I wouldn't wait in line to come here. Firstly, The restaurant is very small and crowded. Maybe 30 people can fit in at a time. The tables along the wall are miserable. They are essentially a quarter table that you have to balance on a stool while eating. I couldn't use a fork and knife because there is no room for one arm to move. The staff is amazingly helpful and friendly. Can't say enough good things about them. While I generally find the service in Barcelona to be average at best, they were tops. The food was good, but very cheese dependant. There was cheese on everything. Jamon and patatas? Topped with cheese. Chorizo sandwich? Topped with cheese. If you like cheese you'll likely love it. If you don't like cheese you should probably stay away. The dishes were creative and tasty. The sangria was average. Nothing spectacular. With endless Tapa places in Barcelona, Bodega was sure unique in every which way. Based on service alone this place deserves 5 stars but with the limited food options and non table cloth along with semi self serve I'll have to give it 4. The spicy chicken satay/on stick was the best. They don't accept credit cards so do carry cash. It houses 10-12 tables so either go earlier or be prepared for a 25-40 min wait which to me was totally worth it. They have English speaking staff so language will not at all be a problem (if English is your first language). You are seated and can order drinks. The house Rioja wine was great. You are then asked to wait until the server comes get you and walks you to the food display. You can from there on select the tapa and amount as per desired. They keep making them fresh but the ones you select are the ones you'll be getting at your table after they have been heated up in the oven or over the grill. My girlfriend and I came in on a weeknight, and although there was a line outside the door (the restaurant is small), our wonderful server Mona came outside to take drink orders while we waited (we recommend the Sangria!!). Best meal we had in Barcelona. Went on a Sunday night after seeing good reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor. Waited in line 30-40 minutes but we offered drinks while we waited. We went for the 8 tapas deal plus Iberian ham and cheese, for I believe 39 euro not including drinks. They ask if you have food allergies and then surprise you with 8 different items to share. Don't worry, if that isn't your thing, you can also go up to the bar and select tapas yourself. They are great about explaining everything. My favorites were a pastry stuffed with spinach and cheese, meatballs, and a potato omelette. read more

We had such a fantastic time here!! Our server, Lucas, was so incredibly welcoming and friendly. Everyone is! We did the "surprise us" portion of the menu on our first night in Barcelona, and everything was spectacular!! We enjoyed it so much that we made a point of going back to have it as our last meal before we left Barcelona. It was easily our favorite meal of the entire trip. They explain each tapa they give you, and always make sure to ask about allergies or foods you may dislike before they pick (if you are doing that selection from the menu). The pricing is extremely fair for the environment you're in and the quality of food. It seems like there's almost always a wait, but they make sure you are taken care of the moment you walk up by offering drinks (which are a good price). Tapas are everywhere in Barcelona. In coming here I envisioned a bar with trays of various offerings. Tried other "highly recommended" places that were ok in the food and service. This restaurant is a bit more classic (in some ways). First it is small, in the Gothic Quarter. 22 seats so you have to wait for seating. That said they serve you drinks while you wait and peruse the menu. Once in the place is bustling. Trays of tapas on the bar, kitchen and 3 servers. You can choose to puck your own (classic). Or two other options where they choose for you. We chose our own (classic) a little awkward since you are talking to the chef over the bar patrons as you go down the line. Great variety, aside the ubiquitous jamon, manchego, and chorizo, many vegetable choices. Great for a city where it is hard to find a salad! Bottom line very delicious tapas, broad selection, very good vino blanco and cava. Not a typical Catalan owner and staff but they are wonderful, engaging, laugh easily (Kareen), and make you feel welcome. In spite of the limited seating, they do not "push" you out when you are done. REALLY NEED TO TRY IT WHEN IN BARCELONA! read more
