Walking around Charleston on a gloomy afternoon, my body decided to shutdown due to a lack of nourishment. Lucky for me, that shutdown happened next to this awesome place. Bodega is one of our favorite places in town for a great sandwich! We love to sit at the bar, have a few drinks and enjoy our lunch. Tried this place on a weekday for lunch and it was SO GOOD! I had a cocktail, the vegan chopped cheese sandwich, and shared home fries. All were delicious, 5 stars all round. The cocktail was pricey, but really good and no more expensive than all the other restaurant cocktails. The sandwich was $15 which I thought was high but it was HUGE. I could only eat half so saved the other half for lunch tomorrow. Came here on a super busy Saturday morning and tried a couple different sandwiches. I tried the breakfast sandwich with Taylor ham and the fried chicken sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was nice and warm with a good amount of cheese and I loved the soft roll it came on. It got a little salty from the ham but nothing too bad. The fried chicken sandwich was quite delicious too. It had a surprising amount of spice to it as well which I enjoyed. On to the downfalls. My boyfriend and I get Togo here quite often, we had an appt at 1 right down the street so I ordered at 12:15 thinking it would only take about 20 min. I work in food and Bev so I know when things get backed up in the kitchen it's impossible to go any faster. The only thing I would have changed from this experience is just for the girl at the counter to tell me how long it was going to be. But the manager really took care of us and I tried the "Bleu balls" special and for the love of God, PLEASE make that a menu item. We had a pretty good time here! It was about 90° outside and we got on the waitlist for "first available" which was 100% our fault because we should have waited for a seat inside. In this heat I'd recommend waiting for inside, because there were two big fans outside that were on some tables and I'm sure it felt great, but because our table was behind the fan it was too hot to be able to enjoy our food. They definitely need more than two fans so staff and can have one as well as all tables. Our experience probably would have been much better if we were inside!
