I recently went to Bodega Taqueria Y Tequila to get a chicken burrito to go for lunch. Pros: A side of free, delicious, not-too-salty chips, a nice array of complementary salsas and hot sauces, quick service, quirky and fun ambiance, reasonable price. Cons: Burrito was lukewarm, they were out of cheese, not enough chicken (also not flavorful), beans and rice needed more flavor, the flour tortilla was tasteless. I would recommend other places nearby for a quick lunch or dinner on the go. read more

We came here because it is within walking distance to our hotel...and because Tequila. Unfortunately, the bar with tequila was closed when we arrived and we could only order premade margaritas. We prefer not to have the extra sugar and just typically drink tequila neat. We ordered chips and salsa, pretty typical. The esquites were ok. Then we ordered some tacos. I think what makes it worse is the "About" section on the website..if these tacos are based off of the ones being voted best in Miami, Miami has a problem. JALAPEÑO BRISKET, CAMARÓN AL COCO and the AL PASTOR. The brisket was dry, the al pastor was saved by the pineapple, and the shrimp was totally forgotten about in the fryer. If you look at my pictures, you can see my shrimp was the color of falafels...I will say, I was not concerned about getting sick from undercooked shrimp. The only reason we are giving three stars is because Lemae. She was a delight. Very sweet, wanted to make things right, and just had to deal with unfortunate circumstances. read more

Such a cute unassuming spot! Taco spot in the front and sexy bar in the back. I appreciated that they allowed you to order from the bar (to take advantage of the happy hour specials) and sit in the front at the tables. The bar was PACKED! it may have been an event or something but it was super busy back there. we ordered the nachos and tacos and they were all so good! The margaritas were lovely as well. I went for HH and honestly, I was super shocked by how good the food and drinks were. We sat at the bar and had the best service! shout out the bartenders for being super attentive despite being busy. They have margarita Mondays which is the day we went, and they have pitchers for $30 and frozen for $5 we ate like 10 tacos together haha but it was delicious. This place is cool! The front of the bodega is a traditional sit-down spot with normal lights and music. The back is where the excitement is at. I love the concept of a secret door going to a bar in the back. The decor is fun, the lighting level gets dimmer every hour to what must be pitch black by 8pm and you just bump into other patrons and suddenly you have a new Tinder date to take home. The food was definitely hit and miss. The plain nachos my friend got barely had any cheese on it, and the cheese was definitely can you use a can opener for or one you press a nozzle at the top to get out. Nachos with a pitiful amount of onions and tomatoes and nothing else. The Classico burrito was phenomenal. Perfect temperature, grilled, cut in two diagonally, and fresh warm interior with beans, cheese, salsa, and plenty of hot sauce at the table to turn up dat heat! The $7 margs were very tart and premixed. They were okay but the alcohol content was pretty low. Ask for tajin and jalapeños, same price and much tastier! The prices were fair. I spent $42 with tax and tip. The bartender was incredibly attentive, friendly, and on point! She even pointed out the automatic tip, when she could have left that out to cheat customers, but didn't. This is a cool spot in an area of the city that doesn't have many Mexican spots with specials during the week, and there's a bonus speak easy! (If you know, you know). The drinks: nothing to write home about. Pretty standard. Not meant to be positive or negative. However, I do suggest the 'love me' and 'f*ck me' shots, because with names like those, how could you not. The food: ordered chicken and steak tacos, not impressed to be honest. Especially given the $5 price tag per taco. Gave the jalapeño brisket burrito a try, not impressive. The elote dorado was another story. That is an AMAZING taco. Perfect balance of flavor, sauce, and spice! Would get this every time. The speak easy is a great time, so if I return, it'll likely be to visit there. My friends and I stopped by this spot hoping to enjoy a fun Taco Tuesday, but our experience was just okay overall. This place gets very busy , so I'd definitely recommend getting there early if you want a seat at the bar or a nice spot inside the restaurant. Since we arrived later in the evening, we ended up ordering at the bar. Unfortunately, the server wasn't as friendly as we'd hoped, I'll chalk it up to the fact that the place was packed and he might've been a bit overwhelmed. Bodega has a whole bar area inside, behind a door that looks like service door. You would never think of pushing open that door if the staff didn't invite you. Once inside, it's dimly light and atmospheric, feeling almost like a speakeasy. Delicious nachos (with melted cheese), $5 during happy hour. Also: $5 happy hour margarita. Amazing. Okay let's talk about this place. They're from Miami, which is awesome. The last place that came from Miami left several years ago... I hope this doesn't follow in the same footsteps, but let's see what happens. RIP 100 Montaditos! Anyways, I've been twice now -- both on weekends... I should try going on a weekday to compare vibes. The interior is quite inviting, and the speakeasy in the back.... what a mood! It's inside of a building, but where you make orders is like a... trailer park thing? Food truck stand? It's really cool haha. But I haven't done that yet, I've went straight to the back where the speakeasy is. Both times there's been a loud DJ and felt less like a speakeasy and more like a club, though. Their food is pricey. My friend didn't love her tacos, and I tried just a taste of the queso. After recently having a pretty elevated queso, it felt like a downgrade indeed. Where they may lack in food, they make up for it in the drinks though. My goal is to return on a weekday and see how the vibe is different. I'll be back! read more

The speakeasy in the back is very cool vibes--dark, with very neat art, and everything you hope a speakeasy would be. The prices were also fairly decent, but not great. The $5 margarita for Margarita Mondays Happy Hour was the real deal. But not much more good to say about this place. The food was EXTREMELY mid. The street corn had the texture of Mac n' cheese, with way too thick of a sauce. The tacos were aggressively fine, and "steak" and "carne asada" were not great descriptors for the meat bits in my tacos that I was probably lucky to not be able to see in the dark space. The margs were good, but inconsistent. Even though they were on draft, some were better than others in terms of flavor. Oddly, only one round came with a garnish, and we had to ask for salt after not receiving it on our first. Salt should be standard or the server should at least ask if we want it. I would consider coming back for happy hour or one of their daily specials, but can't imagine getting food here again. I should also note that their in person menu is vastly different from their online menu. There are no frozen margs--which was one of the things I was most excited about. read more

I was here on Saturday night for dinner and had a lovely experience. We had their F*ck Me shot and a cocktail (Strawberry Limeade) and both were really delicious! As for tacos, they were a great size -- we were expecting something smaller, but were pleasantly surprised. Our favorite was the Steak Chimichurri taco, I highly recommend it! The Barbacoa and the Taco de "Birria" were nice as well (I really liked their Birria Consommé). We also had the Yuca Verde but we could have skipped it...(it was very oily.) I've been hearing good things about this spot called Bodega Taqueria y Tequila, so I had to check it out to see what the hype was about. Let me just say, upon entry it is super cute. You walk in to see half an airstream as the center point of the establishment, which set the tone. However, my boyfriend and I were on a Happy Hour mission, so we made our way to the back where there was a speakeasy, which was absolutely packed, but what else do you expect on a Friday evening at Happy Hour, next to the George Washington Campus. So we make our way to the bar for the $3 margaritas. The Margaritas tasted more like yellow Gatorade, even though I watched the bartender make it right in front of me, but can you really expect from a $3 margarita "Kanye Shrug." On to the food; they had 3 tacos for the $12 and some change. I got the ribeye, chicken, and pork tacos. Although the tacos were pretty good, they could have used a little sauce. Now tell me how these tacos magically went from $12- $20 when I checked my statement (I gave the bartender my card because like I said it was packed; and it was a digital transaction). Like what on God's green earth is this type of gratuity and tax? Anywho, my boyfriend and I ran the tacos back (like I said they were pretty good) and got Modelos instead of the margarita. The tacos almost took and hour to get this time (we did not get them until after Happy Hour was over and people cleared out). Gratefully the management was on top of it and comped our tacos and gave a 2 drink tickets for either margaritas or Modelos. Now to the DJ; DJ Xavi was great and kept the vibes going. He played a lot of Bad Bunny but mixed in between some 90s music, which I loved. Overall, my experience was decent. All my friends from Miami have raved about this place so of course I had to stop by and check it out for myself. When you walk in, it appears to be a simple Taqueria, but if you walk towards the back, there's an entrance to the actual speak easy, which is very cozy and lounge like. Considering it was a Tuesday evening, I thought it was actually pretty packed! I got the opportunity to try a beef birria quesadilla and the spicy passionfruit margarita - both of which were absolutely delicious. I want to give a special shout out to the bar staff who went above and beyond to help my friend, and I find a spot at the bar and we're constantly checking in on us to see if we liked our food, our drinks, and if we needed anything else. We also got the opportunity to meet one of the managers once the evening crowd had started departing, and we learned that by 9 PM, they actually get rid of the tables and the SPEAKEEZY turns into even more of a lounge like area. They do take reservations for the lounge... I think you have to reserve bottle/table service but it's definitely worth it because they have a lot of good tequila... Not your average mainstream tequila, but actually good quality tequila that you don't often find in restaurants here in the DC Metro area. I was invited for a private event and tried to order a margarita in the speak easy area but the bartender was very rude and refused to take my order twice when I tried to order. He said there was a private event and that is the reason why he doesn't want to take my order. I told him I was part of the event but he was so rude and condescending that I was completely turned off. Today I experienced my FIRST speakeasy in DC and had a blast! I went in expecting just to get tacos with co workers​ after work and to our surprise found a hidden lounge with great music and service. Kadejah in the front area did a great job referring us to the back where we were greeted by one of the MOST authentic servers I've ever met Phantom. She guided us through the menu with ease and suggested her favorite drink, the passion fruit margarita, which is now my favorite as well.​ Her aura was unmatched as she correctly guessed my zodiac sign based off first impressions. Also suggested I order a Fiesta Tower that came with a ton of dips, chips, yuca fries, and pepper quesadillas.
