Land mark.....if you miss this you don't deserve to stop

First things First: Great Bathrooms Ok had to get that done, badly. Funky Funkability is the theme here: pair a nice wine with your pork rind burrito, speak to strange statues and read their runes, fuel up the car and check out the ripe avocados. Get WHATEVER you need before hitting the beach, the trail, or the road. It's here!

This is such a charming store! They seem to have a little bit of everything! Food, beer, fishing supplies, gifts, convenience store items, school supplies etc... as well as a little sitting area for eating and snacking with friends. They have apparently been there over 100 years too. It's definitely worth a stop if you're driving by. It has a nostalgic and charming atmosphere. The staff were friendly too

Some of the best to go food I have ever had. We are staying near Abiquiu and had heard great things about this general store. They have a variety of burritos and different specials every day. The carne adovada burrito was the best I've had. The green chile beef and redshile chicharone were both delicious as well. One night we got the shepherds pie and baked ziti, delicious!! We are trying not to go every day because we have already gained 5 pounds.

Driving in New Mexico this is a awesome General store. We stop here on our way to Pagosa Springs! The store has clean restrooms! And the store has some of the most interesting things to buy! Local goods! Art work and unique gifts! This place you'll find old school candies and toys! They have baked good and a cafe we haven't tried yet but food smells yummy.

GEORGIA O'KEEFFE? Hang on I'll get to her. . . . YOU NEED HUNTING, CAMPING AND FISHING SUPPLIES? Well this is the place . . . THE ONLY PLACE! BODE'S GENERAL MERCHANDISE is the only store for 35 miles in any direction . . . and, in a couple of directions, it probably is even further than 35 miles! Remember those country stores in the movies with the OLD GUYS sitting around a fireplace or wood stove in rocking chairs "CHEWING & SPITTING" and "SPINNING YARNS?" I swear they filmed all those scenes at Bode's! Walk in any day of the week (oh, wait, I think they are closed on Sundays!) and you'll find those guys spinning fishing & hunting stories from Abiquiu Lake, or the mountains around Chama - both just a few miles up the road. Bode's sells just about a little of everything you could possibly want and have been doing so since 1919. AN ORIGINAL STORE. Right out of the movies. A fun place to explore. A place to spin yarns. Not your usual tourist trap, but a real Northern New Mexico COUNTRY STORE that serves the residents of the small community of Abiquiu and surrounding farms & ranches. (My favorite T-Shirt is from Bode's. You can order them online.) Plus they have fishing, camping and hunting supplies for the outdoorsmen headed into the GREAT WILDERNESS OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. And . . . . . just so you don't get the idea that this place is TOTALLY REMOTE, and who in the world would EVER want to stop or shop here . . . . this little merchantile is directly ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE HOME OF ONE OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST ARTISTS: GEORGIA O'KEEFFE. Up on the hill above Bode's, facing the Plaza, was her principal residence. She did have a small summer home up the road about 13 miles, but the home across from Bode's, was where she spent most of her time. Bode's is in God's Country . . . or at least it was Georgia O'Keeffe's country. Just look at her landscape paintings . . . then step out of the door at Bode's and look around . . . . they are one in the same. www.bodes.com STOP AND SIT A SPELL!

Green Chile Cheeseburger. No I am not sharing.

I saw Bode's on the TV program with George Motz, like a lot of people who have written reviews. I love really great burgers, especially those that have not been fancied up with kale fed organic fat-free beef and toppings that cost more than the meat. We called ahead to be sure they were open because the previous day we called Sugar's Barbecue and Burgers in Velarde and apparently they are seasonal, since no one answered the phone all day. Four of us made the reasonable drive from Santa Fe and it was worth it. This was a great burger. As others have mentioned the ordering process is a little strange. You go to the window in the back and place your order. The guy who waited on us was very helpful and they are flexible on how you get your burger. He gives you a slip or two (separate one for the local beer) that you take to the cashier towards the front and pay. Then you take your paid slip back to the food window and they make your order and deliver it to your table. Our green chile cheeseburgers were excellent, seasoned well with a very good grill crust. These are cooked on the flat top. The patty is 8 oz which is plenty big enough and is flattened somewhat so that it cooks better than larger thicker patties. You don't order a level of doneness, but the meat was juicy and flavorful. It is topped with plenty of plain, chopped green chiles. I really enjoyed this and would make the drive from Santa Fe again. It is nice that they serve the Monk's Ale and other beers from Abbey Beverage Company. The Monk's Ale was very good with my burger. I should probably award five stars, but would like to have another one or two to confirm consistency.

Bode's is a good place to stop for a burger and snacks. It's a real old-time general store with everything from hats, shirts and beer to tools and groceries, utensils, postcards, Minnows (yes, bait!) and New Mexico memorabilia. There is even a gas station. It's a beautiful ride on Rt 84 and very near the Abiquiu Inn and Georgia O'Keefe's home and studio. It's actually between them and Abiquiu Lake. I had a fabulous Reuben sandwich and M had a green chili burger that was HOT! It's a simple menu but you'll be sure to find something you'll like. As long as your dog is on a leash, s/he is welcome.

I have been going to Kroeger stores since I was a kid in Los Angeles county (it's called Ralph's in CA). It usually is the better nicer store to go to. I don't know what the deal with the staff is (shout out to the staff at our stores in ABQ off golf course on westside) but as opposed to most people we have encountered since moving to New Mexico really awful. My opinion is they are probably kids of the highly paid Los Alamos lab employees (median household income here is over 100k) ie over indulged and under parented. Example (note it was Father's Day) I wanted to order 2 sandwiches as we drove up from ABQ for a short break. First no one came to help, then a really snotty male employee said "oh you have to order sandwiches in the morning". So WTF was this guy even doing there? So if I came in at lunch and wanted a sandwich the answer is no? Dude, this isn't Beverly Hills, or Los Ranchos. It's a tiny city in the middle of pretty much no where. Lose the attitude bro, all he had to say was "I'm sorry it's too late in the day but can I direct you to where you can get other to go food". So I bought sandwich stuff to make our own in our hotel. Cheaper, bigger, better. Kroeger needs to take a look at this store as from the other reviews there is obviously a huge issue.

I have lived in Las Alamos since March 2025 and have seen major improvements in Smiths since then…read moresuch as the wider aisles, larger Bar, polished floors, new restrooms.,Etc.. Problem is management has no idea as to cleanliness. I have sent emails to corporate and personally spoke to two store managers but have seen no results. 1. Restrooms are filthy the cleaning crew has no idea how to clean. I have personally taken some bar Keepers helper and cleaned a few sinks and even shown management the difference, but nothing has been done to resolve the issue. 2. Both Family Restrooms have old doors that have a sign that should show when occupied or not but do not work. 3. The area around the Starbucks is always filthy it needs to be cleaned numerous times a day especially after the lunch hour. 4. It sems it is no one's responsibility to move the plastic shopping baskets from the self-checkout counters to the entrance so customers are forced to proceed thru the exit door to obtain one, although there are always 2 employees standing there because the registers have so many issues, they or the employees bringing shopping carts in could easy move them, I have actually collided with customers checking out with their shopping carts while obtaining a basket. I am sure many customers share these issues but as this is the only large Grocery store in town must continue to shop there. Please share your experiences and maybe Smiths corporate will do something. Hate to post such a negative review but frustrated that Management does not seem to care, only response is "short on staff" well get out of the office and make some changes and get involved. only took me 5 min to make 1 sink look like new. "Cleanliness is next to godliness" :)

By the time I saw this place, I was willing to pay more. I've been here maybe 3 times, and always when I'm leaving Colorado and heading towards Santa Fe, hence they are the proverbial oasis in the desert. The store itself is fairly clean and large with a lot of coolers. Their selection of snacks is varied, they have plenty of ice and drinks, you will even find some local made spices, chiles, wines and a few knick knacks. Everything can be found cheaper somewhere else, it's just a matter of how far you want to drive. If you're looking at basic road trip snacks, so you spent an extra $1, who cares? For multiple items that could be a different story. Their single unisex restroom is kind of dirty and I always fear the day it will be out of order! Luckily that hasn't happened yet, but there is always a line. I do think they could be better about the maintenance though. The lot leaves enough room for parking and using the gas pumps without getting tangled. The gas prices were higher than we had been seeing on our trip, but not gouging higher. If they were anywhere else, the prices and lines would be 3 stars. But see above, I'm always relieved to see them when we take this route.

We arrived and found a sparsely populated but large restaurant with 4 dining areas. We opted for a 3 top in what I'll call "the library". There is a wall full of books on cooking and food. We had this smaller space to ourselves. There was a smaller room just beyond, and it appears to have just one table with a young couple who appears to be on a date. I was happy for them to have such and intimate spot. When you walk in, you enter a large room with tables, a bar and an open kitchen behind. I would have loved to sit at the bar and watch them work, but after walking through the second large room that had a large party having a meeting of some sort, I found the library and knew that was our spot. Service was efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. We were trying to decide between the green chili cheese fries and one of the 5 ! Mac and cheese choices. We went with the fries and were very impressed. They are absolutely loaded with fresh chopped chilies and cheese. Great flavor without being overly spicy hot. As a matter of fact, the spice level was quite mild, which I enjoyed very much, as I had had some of the hotter green chili ever for breakfast and needed a break. I'm amazed to see I typed that as I love the heat, but seriously, I needed a break as my belly was still warm from eating some of that leftover green chili burrito at lunch. This is also why that Ahi Tuna sandwich was calling me. A major break from spicy food. It was the perfect selection. Everything about it was perfect. Big thick chunk of tuna perfectly cooked. The bun was grilled to perfection. LTO and the perfect Mayo topped it all off. She had the burger sans LTO and add cheese. I had a bite and it was absolutely delicious. Thick patty was cooked to "medium" perfection and was juicy and had an amazing beef flavor. We did opt for dessert- a chocolate mousse with a rich raspberry sauce and dollop of whipped cream. It was served in a to-go box but we had no issue with that as most of it was going to be taken home and savored in small portions over the next few days. Neither of us can really finish a full dessert these days. As I exited the library into the front dining room/kitchen I saw all the deserts in a large cooler. They all looked great. This one did not disappoint. To be honest, I can't wait to go back and try more of this menu and get to know these folks better. They are doing something special here. I wish them all the best!

While the stew was very disappointing, I did order a grilled chicken sandwich a few days before and that was very tasty. So I will return, just won't be ordering the stew.
