Karen is amazing: uses a very effective combination of active release, total motion release and stretching / strengthening as part of her approach. Very effective : I went in for acute left shoulder stiffness and pain, convinced I probably needed surgery. Karen had me improving and mostly pain free within a few appointments. Karen knows what she's doing : I've found my visits to be productive and really helpful in terms of getting me to my goals, in terms of workouts and pushing myself. I'd definitely go back to her for any issues - she's also fixed issues with my right hip and right bicep: only took her a couple sessions. I had a real pain in the neck (and shoulder and arm), with numbness and tingling, which caused big problems with being able to sleep, drive, use a computer, go to the dentist, etc. My range of motion in my neck was also significantly limited. I had previously tried numerous massage sessions, chiropractic adjustments, and even acupuncture to solve this problem, the problem would only get better temporarily, only to get worse again. After having this condition for over 6 months, I decided to seek out Karen Woodbeck at Body Dynamic, who was recommended by my podiatrist who sends his patients there for foot and ankle rehabilitation. Karen has a great bedside manner, and really listened to the specifics of my condition before starting my first treatment. Having never gone through physical therapy before, I wasn't sure what kind of results I could expect. After the first treatment, I found I had greater range of motion and less discomfort. Things would tend to stiffen up again between appointments, so she gave me exercises to do to help extend the results from my appointments. I saw Karen once per week for 4 or 5 sessions, with the severity of my symptoms lessening after each appointment. By the end of my treatment with Karen, I was 90% percent back, and used her exercises and stretches to rehabilitate myself back the rest of the way. Physical therapy isn't always pleasant, but the results from working with Karen were fantastic. One other thing...as we were cash pay (crappy insurance!) her fees were very reasonable. I would highly recommend Karen to anyone who needs rehabilitative care and is willing to go through what it takes to get back the quality of life you seek. read more

Karen is definitely a Healer when it comes to physical rehabilitation. I saw her for therapy after knee replacement and hip replacement surgeries. I had seen other physical therapists before but was pleasantly surprised when she spent the entire appointment time with me. Most therapists spend part of the time with you and then pass you off to a trainer for the exercises. She also uses many different techniques to help ease pain, strengthen muscles and regain flexibility--techniques that she has learned through extensive training and experience. She also shares her knowledge through classes she teaches to other therapists. If you want to go to a good therapist, go to one who is respected enough to teach other therapists! I love the way Karen really listened to my concerns, evaluated my physical weaknesses, and then explained what we needed to do. She continued to explain things along the way. There is no doubt that she is dedicated to getting the best results for her clients. After I made progress in treatment with her, she suggested Pilates to take me to the next step. She connected me with a Pilates instructor in her studio, who was also very well-trained and had a lot of experience working with patients doing rehab. Karen was able to tell her which exercises would be best for me. My new joints are now working fine, with strengthened muscles and increased flexibility. Thank you Karen, for getting me mobile again! So impressed and happy with my first appointment! I've done PT 3 times at different clinics and this is the first time I've had serious relief. I have bilateral labrum tears in my hips and have not been able to run consistently since 2016. I woke up one morning barely able to get out of bed. The pain in my lower back was excruciating. It felt like all the muscles of my lower back were violently seizing up. Just standing or sitting, the pain was manageable. Transitioning between standing and sitting as well as even the slightest forward bending was extremely painful. In desperation, I took my wife's advice to visit her physical therapist, Karen Woodbeck at Body Dynamic. Getting in and out of the car was painful as my wife drove me to Body Dynamic in Los Gatos. Getting up out of the waiting area chair for my PT session was just as bad. Karen asked plenty of questions to help her diagnose my problem. She then had me do various movements, some where she watched how I moved, some with resistance that she provided. Halfway through our session I was noticing that my lower back pain had begun to recede. By the end of my one hour session, I was mostly pain free. It was magic! Karen sent me home with some exercises to do, suggestions on my sleeping position and an appointment for another session. The rest of the day I was mostly pain free. The next morning my lower back pain had returned but at a much lower intensity. I was maybe 50% improved. The exercises that she recommended reduced the pain even more. By the time of my next PT appointment my pain was greatly reduced. I was even able to drive myself to the appointment. My back continued to improve each day. During my following appointments, Karen worked on getting my spine loosened up in order to prevent a reoccurrence of my problem. Lots of exercises along with some intense homework have improved the flexibility of my spine. Funny story: I do abdominal crunches a few times per week to keep my core strong so that I don't have back problems (I guess crunches alone are not enough). Before PT my lower back would creak and crack when doing the crunches which I attributed to getting older. After PT the creaking and cracking is gone! My PT is now complete, and I am back to normal; in fact better than before. I am continuing to do some of my homework exercises to keep my back loose. I don't ever want to experience my lower back seizing up again. Kudos to Karen and Body Dynamic for not only fixing my symptoms, but for also teaching me methods to prevent future problems!!! I badly sprained my ankle and needed my ankle to heal before I left for a big trip so I decided to come see Karen. I was on crutches for about a week before seeing her and after only 2 visits I was walking without the crutches. Karen is an excellent physical therapist! I've had treatments from many skilled therapists over four-plus decades, so I'm not easy to impress. But I was very much impressed by three treatments I've had from Karen, one a few years ago for a stiff, sore hip and two of them recently for chronic over-use injuries to my arms. From the first moment of the first treatment, I could tell that she had sensitive and skilled hands and that I could trust her not to overstretch and harm me. And through the three treatments, I've seen that she incorporates many different types of therapy into her thorough, hour-long treatments. I know she takes a lot of courses as well as teaches some. With just the two latest treatments of her working on the tight nerves and other tissues in my arms, they are markedly improved. Karen also taught me some stretches that are more effective for the nerves than the ones I'd been doing. Besides having such skill and knowledge, she has a caring, enjoyable personality. Karen Woodbeck at Body Dynamic, is an amazing physical therapist. I've gone there for several different injuries to feet and knees, and a chronic neck condition, and even a broken arm. Karen knows so much about anatomy and fixing your injuries, that it's surprising. My most surprising experience was when I had a broken humerus bone (upper arm near the shoulder) due to my dog tripping me when I was jogging. I had been to the emergency room, and then to a doctor the next day, and they sent me home in a sling but didn't give me any therapy or any tips except keeping the arm immobilized and applying ice. I was in tons of pain, my arm was very swollen, and the sling I had been given was actually digging into my arm and causing extra pain. Karen was able to immediately substantially reduce my pain, by some manual manipulations and by applying Kinesio tape that additionally reduced the swelling. Also she got me into a better sling, and gave me a small sponge toy football to just take with me and repeatedly squeeze with my hand, and that also relieved pain for me. Then with continued treatments, I've healed and recovered most of the range of shoulder motion that I previously had. Two other people I've met with the same kind of broken humerus, that didn't get physical therapy treatment soon enough or maybe not the best treatment, have not recovered even half their range of motion. Other things you should know. Many physical therapy places will not do nearly as much in an hour as Karen does. You really get complete attention for your full hour, with Karen. You don't need a doctor recommendation for your initial visit, because California now allows you to just go there for a few weeks, a few visits, before you need a doctor diagnosis. For some injuries, Karen's treatment will fix the problem in that short time so you save a doctor visit. I definitely think Body Dynamic is the right place to go for physical therapy when you're injured, and also for Pilates classes (which I enjoy every week). read more
