I had a massage from Cara, forgive me if i have the name wrong, yesterday afternoon. I was sore from three days of sleeping in a tent and doing many hours of massage. I get a lot of massage and have to say that Cara was fabulous! She focused on the areas that I had requested. The kind people at BodyGood were very gracious to fit me in for a same day appointment. While I prefer all the bells and whistles of a posh spa (foot soak, tea, pre-service shower), BodyGood does a good job at bringing in elements to make you forget that you're mere feet away from the hustle and bustle of Rainier Avenue. The massage rooms are dimly lit and very clean. Dan was good company (light conversation without being chatty) and gave a great massage. He used a very firm hand on my neck (where I carried the most tension). My neck stayed sore for a couple days, but overall, I feel really good. I noticed that the foot massages start with a foot soak. I may ask to start my next appointment with a soak so I have some time to unwind and clear my head. The only other things I thought my experience lacked was a briefing on how to breathe throughout the massage (he told me to take deep breaths at certain points) and what I would feel afterward. I found some of this info on their website after my appointment. I think if I go in with a clear head and take cleansing breaths throughout, I'll be able to leave feeling like rubber next time. read more

I feel very fortunate to come across BodyGood Massage soon after I moved to Seattle. I've been getting massages on a monthly basis for about 15 years. I am always super tensed, and finding a good masseuse has never been easy for me. I am so happy that BodyGood Massage meets all my needs. I usually work with Li or Dan, and they can both deliver a very good deep tissue massage. Of course Dan is stronger between the two, but I wouldn't dream of thumb wrestling with Li either. (For those who can't tolerate a deep tissue massage, feel free to speak up. Everyone is different, and there's no shame in mentioning that the pressure is too deep.) Dan and Li learned my problem areas within a couple of visits. They are knowledgeable on body mechanics and can effectively release my stubborn knots. BodyGood is clean and has a shower for those who need to rinse off prior to a massage. The hours are great for those who have a demanding work schedule. The customer service is superb. Li has been fabulous the two times I have been. I herniated my S1 disc over a month ago and her healing hands have helped me get back to an active lifestyle. It's a functional massage place but not a pampering spa. It is loud from next store businesses so you may not feel very relaxed. Massages however are very good here, however I personally choose to go somewhere I feel pampered more. read more

Owners Dan and Li are both wonderful therapists. My boyfriend and I have come in for multiple couples massages, and have left feeling great! They are always very accommodating, and even fit us in for a last minute evening massage, after they had been working tirelessly all day, that is true dedication and love for their bussiness. I've had several great massages here. I've seen both Li and Cara. They have different styles, but both were very attuned to my needs and reaction to the amount of pressure they were using. All of my requests were accommodated. I always feel great after a massage session at BodyGood, and it was Li's observation that lead me to discover that I have TMJ and to start getting treated for that. There's even a cheap parking lot around the corner that charges $2 for 2 hours. Columbia City is a cute little neighborhood with several great restaurants to visit after you're all destressed and relaxed. The only negative is that the soundproofing in the massage rooms could be better. Sometimes I could hear conversations from other rooms and it distracted me from relaxing. Definitely check them out! I stopped seeing them only because I moved to another neighborhood that isn't convenient to Columbia City. I still miss BodyGood. read more

I had the kind of back injury that had me doubled over in pain and scared out of my mind. I could barely walk or get out of bed. I went to my doctor, who gave me pain meds and muscle relaxers. They helped the pain, but not the problem. My doctor also recommended that I go and see Dan for a deep tissue massage. (My doctor sees Dan himself and swears he is the best if that's any indication). So I went. Wow. I was beyond pleased, cured, and elated. If you've never had a deep tissue massage, you should be warned that if you're treating an injury, the massage itself can be pretty painful. Dan gets deep into the muscles and tissues and finds the problems that are causing the problems. And then he goes to work on them. It's an hour massage, and it's not necessarily the funnest thing you will go through, but let me tell you, it works. Literally the next morning my pain was almost gone. I thought a miracle had taken place. I came back for a few more follow up sessions to make sure everything was smoothed out and better. Dan is incredibly knowledgeable and simply takes amazing care of you. One thing I really appreciate about him is that he talks you through everything and explains why this muscle is causing that muscle to spasm and what we can do about it, etc. He will also tell you what to expect over the next few days. You feel very confident in his ability to treat you--that and your pain goes away! The other therapists and staff are also really friendly and attentive, the facility is very nice and clean, and you will feel completely welcomed. If you've got an issue that no one else has been able to help with, go see Dan! This is the first review I've ever written, for anything, ever. I had a childhood injury (thoracic spine) many years ago that caused my back/shoulders/ribs/neck to hurt all the time and with every breath that I take. I've spent thousands of dollars, tried countless doctors/massage therapists/chiropractors/acupuncturists/nutrition/physical therapists/neurologists, etc, to find some relief to the years of severe pain with my back/shoulders/chest/neck. It's been a long journey, and I had all but given up and accepted the level of pain, and the lower level of life satisfaction that comes with it. I made very little progress (over the course of years) with my treatment until I had my first massage with Dan. On this healing journey, Dan is one of the few people I've encountered that realizes there are several different approaches to fix a complicated problem. He takes a multifaceted approach to the issue, which is why we made progress. If you've been to many health professionals that only do things in the most dogmatic standards, I highly recommend Dan. If he doesn't initially know what's causing the issue, he'll keep working at it until he figures it out. I've found this to be the rare quality that is missing in most health care professionals. I had been having some back trouble and had been in pain for a couple days. I decided it was time to finally get a massage. Had problems for years and just never went. Looked on yelp to get some ideas on where to go since this would be my first time ever getting a massage. I was happy to know that Bodygood was in my neighborhood, so I gave them a call to set up a same day appt. The staff was very nice when I called and explained the payment process. When I got there I was greeted by Ann, one of the therapist. I explained to her what my problem areas were and that I was a first timer. She explained everything along the way and what she was going to be doing. I felt comfortable and relaxed immediately. The room was clean and there was nice lighting and mood music that kept my mind still. The massage was intense at first, but I had also never had one and was pretty locked up. It was the best pain ever. Ann massaged muscles that I didn't know existed. I was so relaxed when it was over I could barely move. I felt so much better than when I walked in. I also had a weird burst of energy afterwards. I actually wanted to go out and do stuff since I has been hurting for the past two days. The pain was gone. I was sore, but that's was what I was expecting. I will definitely be going back to see Ann in the future. Her hands are magic! read more

This place has the most unhelpful customer service and front desk staff. They have strange policies that aren't disclosed until you arrive (like you have to pay cash for your copay, but then they didn't have any change). They need to invest in training their front desk reception staff on what is appropriate and what is not appropriate and on what good customer service is. I gave them as second chance and the experience was worse. No way will I ever go back here. read more

Had some muscle tension/pain and headaches for a couple weeks that had started escalating. On the recommendation of a friend, I made a same-day appointment with Li for a 30 min. session. The room was clean, private, and relaxing; and the table had clean and warmed sheets. The massage itself was quite intense, which is what I was looking for (Li had asked toward the start if the pressure level should be adjusted, and I declined). Li was amazing - she really honed in on tight muscles and worked out all the knots and kinks. As far as I can tell, all the tension and pain are now gone. Pricing is as indicated on their website. There was no pressure from anyone to book another session either. All in all, a totally worthwhile experience. If you're looking into massage therapy for pain relief, I definitely recommend trying an appointment with Li. read more

This was the most painful massage I have ever received. The next day I could hardly move my neck and I had a silver dollar sized bruise on my arm. Dan talked the entire time on topics that had meaning to him only and did not listen to what I was saying to him nor did he notice that I was wincing at his pressure. I have had massages at BodyGood from Dan, Li, and two other massage therapists. They are all first-rate. This is the only place I know in Seattle that you can go to and get relief if you have a serious pain issues. I walked into BodyGood many times with so much pain and stiffness, and walked out with relief that I did not think was possible. My favorite massage therapist is Dan because he is really knowledgeable and goes all out to make sure that you leave the place feeling better. He is not only strong, but knows exactly where and how to work your knots and pains. The massage tables are really comfortable, warm, and the head rest is adjusted perfectly. BodyGood is not the most convenient drive from where I live so I have tried to find another massage therapist close to my home, but no place even comes close to BodyGood. read more

Having had a few massages before I knew what to expect as "standard." In addition to meeting my expectations for "standard" (relaxing environment, soothing elements, clean and pleasant smelling, On top of those met expectations, what moved me from four stars to five was the really personable, positive-energy staff (Dan and Travis), who were fun and conversational throughout the experience. For the couples massage, my husband had the deep tissue and relaxation massage with Dan while I took the relaxation massage with Travis. While Dan apparently was beating up my husband in all the right ways (the noises that were coming out of him!), Travis did a GREAT job of relaxing my body while spending some time finding and working out some unexpected trouble spots I had in my shoulders, lower back and legs. I booked my first appointment with Dan at BodyGood Massage mostly because the location was convenient and they took my insurance. I was having many different sports related issues and my chiropractor thought it would help to get regular massage work. I am someone who trains and works out a lot, and I like my massages deep and therapeutic (please, no lotion rubbing!). Well, my first comment to Dan two minutes into the massage was, 'you don't mess around!'. He didn't waste time with an all over body massage (unless requested of course) and he spent time and effort tackling the issues at hand. Because of this, I started booking regular appointments, and I am actually seeing progress with issues no one has been able to remedy before. My lower back has loosened and I'm able to get chiropractic adjustment; by working my fascia in my thighs and groin Dan was able to significantly improve my hip flexibility; and Dan worked out the kinks of an old shoulder injury, allowing me to strength train and repair the damage. I have recommended countless friends to Dan and they are all glad I did : ) read more
