    Tri N.

It's been a few years since I got my last baseline scan, and I was curious to see my body comp changes from calisthenics workouts. I like the online scheduling system which allows easy access to mobile locations and available time slots. I showed up to the spot and was warmly greeted by Randolph. He quickly got me set up on the scan table, and about 10 minutes later, the scan was complete. Randolph was super thorough in answering questions and explaining the process. The online dashboard is awesome and contains all the data from past scans. Also, I learned I can use my FSA towards the scans. Would highly recommend a BodySpec scan for anyone curious about their health and measurable ways to achieve your fitness goals. Best wishes on your health journey.

Standing outside the Body-Spec mobile scanning truck.

Last Saturday, I went to Brick House Fitness center in San Jose where Body-Spec parked its mobile RV that houses a General Electric dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA) scanner. The founder, Jason Belvill, was there to greet those that had signed-up on Body-Spec's website for their 15-minute appointment. I was interested in getting a scan because I heard that it was extremely accurate and it showed -- unlike other body fat measuring techniques -- a breakdown of subcutaneous fat versus visceral fat. I had recently lost 30 pounds and was eager to see the fruits of my labor. Jason and I both wished that I had gotten a DXA scan in my Dad-Bod state, so we could compare results. I lay down on the DXA scanner and Ari the DXA technician performed the 6-minute scan. Now I know what it's like to be a piece of paper on a Xerox machine! I was a little concerned that the scanner results would be skewed since the whole RV shook when the scanner head would change positions, but it was not the case. Following the scan, I waited outside while the results were interpreted and printed out for me. Customers also get access to an online version after a few days. The results were just a tad higher than the readings from my Fitbit Aria scale, but they were still around what I had expected. The more interesting results was the body composition readings for lean muscle, fat, and bone density around the different parts of my body (arms, legs, trunk, Android and Gynoid regions). Jason explained to me all the results and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. Body-Spec recommends getting tests every quarter to track one's body composition over time. At the end of the printout are graphs plotting your results over time. First-time customers can get scanned for $40 and subsequent scans are $55 unless you buy a package of scans. As a point of comparison, a Fitbit Aria costs about $130. I recommend Body-Spec because the technology gives you information that other techniques don't. Even if you only do it once, you can get actionable information that will help you with your fitness goals. Suggestions for improvement: 1) When I reserved my spot a few weeks out, I filled out the online intake form. A day or two before the appointment, I received an email asking me to fill out the intake form again. The system should have detected that I had filled out the intake form for that appointment and not asked me again. I did fill it out a second time, since I wasn't sure if the information was captured the first time. Customers who forget to fill out the form can also fill it out on-site. 2) I've seen photos from other DXA scans (not from Body-Spec) which have higher-resolution x-ray images. It would be great to have access to those images, as the one provided is not as detailed as it could be.

Instead, I was only informed upon arrival, which created avoidable delays. At that point, I immediately provided the complete order from Stanford via the patient portal. However, staff asked for a paper copy (non-existent as this was ordered via virtual visit) and proceeded to seek verbal confirmation from Stanford, which did not seem necessary given the complete documentation available. As a result, the visit took approximately twice as long as expected. Additionally, I was asked for clinical details (cholesterol, family history) prior to the CAC without explanation, which felt outside the scope of the imaging. Suggested improvements: * Proactively review and flag incomplete documentation prior to the appointment * Accept digital physician orders from established systems (e.g., Stanford portal) without requiring redundant paper copies or verbal confirmation * Limit or clearly explain non-essential patient questions These changes would significantly improve efficiency and patient experience.

I think a few areas of opportunity could include: - An easier scheduling system. It's difficult to check on when your next appointment is (if you lost the written card) and moving appointments involve pushing the date out pretty far. I don't know how hard it would be to implement an online system for this, but it could be nice to improve. - The office staff has always been warm and friendly with me, but they do seem fairly busy. It would be helpful for them to provide a little more verbal guidance between transitions in the appointment and to check in occasionally if the wait is longer than expected. All that said, I'm more concerned with the imaging quality and evaluation being top notch -- which from what I can tell, it is. The office itself is older, but comfortable, and the customer service processes are not tech-forward or slick, but work well enough.

She is the only initial doctor that ordered tests to determine what "kind" of yeast I was facing, as it was resistant to the most common medications. However, after 2+ years of working with Dr. Soni, eliminating sugar, gluten, dairy, and going on every single diet you can even imagine...15+ supplements daily, mental exhaustion from the toll this horrific infection was having on my relationship with my partner, pain with any form of intimacy which led to exceptionally limited intimate moments with my partner as everything constantly burned and itched, encouragement from Dr. Soni to move out of my house because she was convinced my issue was stemming from mold (all mold tests came back negative in my home and body), I finally decided to go to another practitioner. Shame on me for not doing so sooner, but we put our trust in doctors to encourage us to seek other help if they simply don't have the answers. The next doctor I saw told me that the meds Dr. Soni had me on would not treat the issue, as they were taken orally and needed to be used as a suppository, given the infection. My new doctor prescribed the correct medication and in one week I was yeast free (and still am, months later!). I WISH I could have these past 2+ years of my life back and the $50k+ I spent on treating a YEAST infection. Lesson learned - always get a second opinion. I hope I can encourage others to do the same if you aren't finding the answers to your medical issues. UPDATE per doctor's response - I have NOT moved homes. That was a recommendation per the doctor that I was not willing to make as I did not believe mold was the issue. I was correct. I am not sure why that was extrapolated from my statement. The $50k was inclusive of doctors appointments, labs, treatments, not moving. Happy to provide receipts (this was inclusive of other doctors since I did not get the help I needed in the first place). Per my new doctor - This was a simple issue that just needed the proper treatment in the first place.

I was called up on time. You'd be escorted to a room where you would need to confirm the information they have in their system. They will also need to see your ID as well. I requested lab work since I have not had a physical in over 5 years. Tram, the phlebotomist used the smallest needle (the butterfly) after I informed her that it's tricky to draw blood from me due to my heavy scar tissues / skin grafts. Thankfully she was able to get some blood out of me after just 1 unsuccessful poke. She is soft-spoken, thorough, and tried her best to be gentle. I don't have any issues w/ this place. Glad I went after holding onto the lab paperwork for about 6 months. I was lagging big time simply because I was lazy. Oh yeah, not sure what gets charged or I guess it depends on your insurance coverage. I had to pay $6. Not sure if they accept cash, but they take cards.

When we politely asked for clarification, the staff refused to explain the situation. What made the experience worse was the attitude of the young female phlebotomist. She was dismissive, rude, and simply told us to "sit down and wait" without offering any help or transparency. Even other patients noticed the situation and kindly offered to let us go ahead of them, which says a lot about how poorly things were being handled. If appointments are not honored or prioritized, it defeats the entire purpose of scheduling one. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location.
