Over the winter - my husband (and running czar) must have realized this as he purchased me a 10 class card to Newington Yoga Center, located on the "main drag" of Newington. The yoga studio has a small waiting area when students can leave their bags, shoes, etc but a fairly large practice space. I am not very well versed in the different types of yoga but all of the teachers I have encountered have been helpful, gently moving me into the correct position or allowing me to practice how I am feeling that day. I might not get all the moves correctly or be able to lift myself off the ground in the lotus position (and believe me I have tried) but it has helped me work out the kinks, stretch and lengthen and more importantly leave feeling a sense of peace and centeredness I most times did not have before class.

This spot is so cute and very welcoming. Although it was prenatal yoga, it was easily modifiable and i had a great session. I appreciated the matts, blocks, blankets, pillows available for use. After this session, they offered little bouquets to us it was such a nice touch (it was mother's day)! The location of this studio is perfect, you can take a walk before or after through old wethersfield. My friend and I went for brunch at heirloom market after. There is ample parking here which I really appreciated for the busy area. My friend and I felt great afterwards and agreed we'd come back.

The class was a good mix of stretching and light challenge, and I left feeling refreshed instead of exhausted. Everyone there was super welcoming which made it even better.

This review is only about the "Gentle Yoga" classes at Hartford Sweat (because that is the only…read moreclass I've tried). These classes are the highlight of my week. I'm sure the class is supposed to be for people needing a good stretch for tired muscles but I use it as a 'self care' relaxation class. When I leave, I feel refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the week. The best part of the class is that Kristin (the usual instructor) starts every class by saying that if you just want to lay on the floor or stay in child's pose for the entire hour you can - and she means it. This truly is a no-judgement class where you can do as much or as little as you want based on what your body (or mind) is telling you to do. I can't say enough great things about the class - definitely give it a try.

I know it looks a little daunting, but it's really not intimidating at all once you start! Syria is a wonderful teacher and gets you used to the hammock, giving you direction every step of the way. You only have to do what you are comfortable with. The studio is big and bright (it's a dance studio as well), classes are small (8 max) so you really feel like your getting a personalized session. I found the whole place very welcoming. As with most yoga, it's a little expensive but your body feels relaxed and well stretched after. The hammock helps you really stretch out using gravity instead of putting a lot of pressure on your joints. They accept PayPal or cash and booking is easy online! I highly recommend it!

I've found that they get to know everyone's names and can offer a few quick corrections (or praise) during the class. The other thing that is really great is that the studio seems to be the perfect size. I am not getting dripped on by my neighbors and I have space to practice without hitting other people. But, on the flip side, it's not so big that I can't see the instructor or how I am executing the postures in the mirror. My only criticism is that I wish there was a better place to store your coat/shoes/bags when entering the studio. Everyone seems to pile up at the exit trying to grab their stuff before and after class. This place would benefit from a few more storage cubbies for people to use! Overall, I would definitely recommend, but caution -- it's HOT. Bring water and a towel.

The instruction is great, though I agree with the other reviewer who said that sometimes other students bad behavior goes unaddressed. I once saw a woman pick up her cell phone and send a text in the middle of a class. Totally unacceptable. The changing area is decent. The location is great with easy parking. The studio has a very welcoming feel unlike the New Haven Bikram studio which felt disjointed and unfriendly. First timers are given the attention they need, while more experienced students are challenged. Definitely try a class here, but drink plenty of water!
