I recently transferred doctors from one in Stone Oak area that I had been placed with but living just a few minutes down the street from Boerne Vision Center I had to give it a try. I am beyond pleased and they are now my new go to for all my vision needs. Their staff was helpful prompts and professional, and Dr. Patel was an incredible advocate for my eye health. He listened and took time to work through my vision issues and provide excellent solutions and a reasonable cost. I have been a patient of Dr Broderick's since the beginning of this year, and he is treating both my eyes for macular degeneration. He is an excellent doctor, who explains problems and the solutions very honestly and well. Nobody likes an injection in the eye, but he makes it as quick and painless as possible, and I have got used to them now. He has excellent staff and back office who are very easy to communicate with and who are efficient and very helpful. My husband, daughter, and I just recently had our eye exams at Boerne Vision Center. It was about a 45 minute drive for us and we took the scenic route from the far west side of San Antonio. Dr. Johnson, as always, was thorough and friendly when examining my eyes. The optical staff were efficient and friendly as well. When we drove back for my husband's and daughter's exam, Dr. Sheeder was wonderful with them both. I was in town so definitely needed to see Dr Susan Johnson for my exam! I got my eye exam and glasses back in California a year and a half ago but something just wasn't right. I know already that's it's hard for me to get 20/20 because my optometrist in Cali always felt frustrated with me when I tell them that all the versions of 'number 1' or 'number 2' are the same. Dr Johnson took her time with me and she listened when I said the prescription in my right eye just didn't feel right. She made sure I could see as clear as possible. (I could finally ready the smallest font.) I also did a contact lens exam which costed extra but I dont mind. I have really dry eyes and we had to try three brands until i found the perfect one. I got a years worth of contacts and theyre gonna ship my contacts + glassss to my house in Cali! I'm so glad i got to see Dr Johnson again. The next time I'm going to fly out to Texas, you bet I'll make the trip out to Boerne to see my favorite optometrist. read more

Had a follow-up visit this week. Now, Dr. Susan Johnson has taken over the practice, totally remodeled the interior and the patient experience! You only deal with one assistant and then the doctor. The front desk receptionist was very professional and friendly. Afterward, he assisted me in filing my prescription. This was my first visit with Dr. Susan Johnson. Based on previous Yelp reviews and the positive comments for Dr. Johnson, I called Boerne Vision Center to confirm that they accepted Medicare and USAA insurance before making an appointment for my dad. They were able to schedule us within a week and sent a text with a link to print out the new patient paperwork in advance. I received another text a couple days before the appointment as a reminder. Though simple, it's amazing how many doctors offices don't provide these courtesies and it's really helpful. The staff were polite and our wait was short. Before seeing Dr. Johnson there were several tests that a technician named Burgundy and a new trainee performed. Both were very kind and patient with my dad. Upon meeting Dr. Johnson, it was evident that she truly enjoys her work. She was very easy to talk with and made sure we understood the tests she was doing as well as the results. She was in no hurry during the appointment and wanted to make sure our questions were answered. She referred us to a surgeon in San Antonio due to the nature of my Dad's condition. She advised that though his prescription needed to be updated, not to spend the money until after we've consulted the specialist. I found Dr. Johnson to be very professional, knowledgeable and warm. It was a great experience, and we have a good direction for Dad's continued care. read more

Would like to thank Dr. Johnson and her crew on a great first time eye exam. I was overdue (6 years) in getting eye's checked and wanted to try someone local rather than having do drive into San Antonio and dealing with the horrible traffic on I-10 from Boerne. I Found Boerne Vision Center on YELP as wanted to check out their reviews. The time in and out was excellent as it took just over a hour and I let Dr. Johnson know I was very pleased with the overall service. I thought it would have taken longer but she explained the 'one-on-one' attention her practice provides versus the other 'group practices' that have several Dr's on staff which is not uncommon; but produces a delay in service as they are looking over many clients whereas Dr. Johnson did not. I was dilated and seen in 5 minutes and didn't have to leave the chair where in other places I had to wait 30-45 minutes to be seen after dilation. That's the difference and extremely pleased with their service and professionalism. I would highly recommend Boerne Vision Center for your personal attention to your eyes as I will continue to use them for my vision needs. They made me feel like a person rather than someone waiting in-line for the next Dr. They have a great business and are also listed in the 'Fair Oaks Ranch Living" magazine if you would like their # and advertising information on all the services they offer. read more

I have had the same vision insurance for 4 years and I decided I would like to switch to boerne provider and I called and scheduled and then when I came in I was told it would be a $50 contact fitting fee but I've never had to pay that and they said it's an office policy so unless I pay my 15 copay and 50 contact office fee then they won't give me a contact prescription. I took time off work and planned my day around this appointment and I think it's outrageous they wouldn't tell a new patient on the phone about the contact office fee on the phone so I didn't waste my time and energy on this. I am going out of town TOMORROW and needed this done but refuse to pay for something out of pocket that my INSURANCE COVERS. read more

My mother was a patient of Dr. Brodrick who offices at Boerne Vision Center on Fridays. He is a macular degeneration specialist which is why my 88 year old mother selected him. In late July we had our 3rd appointment with Dr. Brodrick. We arrived at 3:20pm for our 3:30pm appointment. The waiting area was full, no seats left to sit for incoming patients and/or care takers. Checking in I asked how long it might be, and the receptionist said he was running behind. So we sat. After waiting an hour and still no update on our appointment, I went back to ask the receptionist again my mother's status. She checked and came back and said she was next in line (obviously as we were the last appointment of the day and the only people out there who had not been helped). At that time, i told her this was unacceptable that if we had been an hour late, the appt would have been cxld and we would have been charged. This is where the attitude began to get even worse (which I didn't think was possible). All she kept saying was that it wasn't her - it was the doctor. So after going back and forth like that for a while, I sat down. Another patient told me that I should just be happy there were doctors that could treat macular degeneration now. I told her I was, but that it was not professional on his part to consistently run behind an hour (this was our 3rd appointment and 2 out of 3 the wait time was over an hour, with the other one being 30 mins). That they - he - owed his patients the same level of respect he wanted to be shown. A bit later, another young lady at the front leaned over the desk to explain again that it wasn't them - they didn't have anything to do with his schedule. I responded to her. At no time was I yelling or vulgar, just obviously angry and frustrated. After they finally took my mother back, dilated her eyes, and she got 5 minutes of Dr. Brodrick's time we were on our way home with the knowledge we would never go back - that there had to be an ophthalmologist who treated their patients better than Dr. Brodrick and the staff at Boerne Vision Center. Yesterday my mother received a certified letter, signature required letter from Dr. Brodrick telling her that I was no longer welcome in his office because of how I had disrupted his office. First let me say, I only instigated a conversation with the front desk receptionist - every other conversation was started by others after I had sat down (clearly upset, but sat down). Second, the young man who does the glasses for the center approached me at one point to ask how my day was going. So if I had in fact been so disruptive, I think he would have known. Later, Dr. Johnson (I assume) asked me how everything was going, so I reiterate, if I was so disruptive I think she would have known. The personnel at Boerne Vision Center - in particular the receptionist - needs aggressive customer service skills training. Not once while we were there did a single person apologize for the delay - rule number one in providing customer service is to always apologize for inconvenience of your patient and/or customer. Give options when a patient comes in if it's going to be an hour or greater past their scheduled appointment - do you want to reschedule? Do you want to run some errands and be back here in 45 minutes? Anything rather than sitting in silence acting like it's all out of your control. As to Dr. Brodrick, if he'd taken the time to read the negative reviews on google, he would have seen there is a pattern with the front desk receptionist - her rude behavior and inability to offer any type of empathetic customer service is unacceptable. I guess maybe she - and perhaps others that work in that office - are not happy about always having to listen and address the failure of Dr. Brodrick to stay anywhere near schedule. There are other macular degeneration specialists in the San Antonio area, so be aware you do not have to accept this type of disregard for your time and lack of compassion for patients. I don't know anything about Dr. Johnson or the level of service she provides to her patients, I can only say that the combination of Dr. Brodrick and the front desk receptionist should certainly make you question the service they can provide to macular degeneration patients. read more
