Even when I ordered progressive lenses, the staff helped me learn what to expect as I became accustomed to these new lenses. I've been "seeing" Dr. Dunlap for over six years, and I appreciate her knowledge and accuracy in diagnosis and prescriptions. I would give 5 stars, except there seems to be a revolving door of the doctor assistants. While I understand and appreciate the need for staff development, there are innate skills required for a medical staff assistant to possess, such as interpersonal skills, a gentle and confident touch, and knowledge and accuracy on the reason for visits. If the job candidate does not have the innate skills, then find someone else. I get nervous enough going to any doctor. Starting my visit with a nervous, unqualified doctor's assistant is not the way to a good overall experience at the eye doctor. read more

This location was able to see me as a walk in and I appreciated it since I have a busy schedule. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciate Dr. Nguyen and his professional work ethics and how he educated me during the entire process. It's been almost two years since I had a routine check up so I had a few questions. They are located near Pet Smart. There is a nice selection of frames from Oakley, Tiffany and Co, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. The anti-glare lenses are pricey (add on) but I was willing to try it out since my insurance covered my frames and lenses. read more

I'm very disappointed in TSO's Administrative Staff. I have both Medicare and TriCare for Life and was told I would have to pay Medicares deductable of $226 at my next appointment. TriCare for Life covers my Medicare deductibl, so I should not be told I have to pay $226 before I can be seen. To me this seems to be a fraudulent bill and as medical administrators they should be familiar with the different insurance(s) and what is covered. If they don't know, it's very easy to look up. I came to my appointment here and although they have a great selection of frames and contacts to choose from the staff, service and quality of service is not great. The staff is not very friendly when asking questions over forms I am filling out. I get told my insurance covers everything and then later receive a bill for almost $300.00!! Disputing it was a night mare and then once I receive my glasses they are not how they were ordered. Needless to say, I will not be coming back here. TSO is a great company, but for whatever reason this location is not the best. I do recommend TSO as a company since my family still continues to go there but this location can use some help with their staff. I gave it 2 stars but like I said earlier, they do have a great selection of frames!! They are top of the line and the frames themselves are not only cute but super stylish. The contacts they offer are one of the few places I have found that fit my eye comfortably so I do go back when I need to order contacts. The price for the frames are reasonable as well. So, this place isn't all horrible don't think that please...they offer great products I just think their service from the staff can use some improvement and also getting their insurance claims in order before billing a client who does not need to be billed. read more

Tried this location out to be my new optometrist. Was told my lenses were going to take 2 weeks to come in, ended up taking over a month. Fast forward a little over a year and all the paint is peeling off of my frames (they go from my face to night stand with care). Go in to ask about the warranty to get greeted by a rude receptionist who didn't have the time of day to be bothered & got told I have to have another exam and buy a whole new set of glasses after only 1 year of wearing these... I've been wearing glasses my entire life and have never had all the paint peel off and look so scuffed. Told the girl to cancel my account and it looked like the happiest day of her life. I'd stay away from this location and probably every TSO as their all privately owned and have to deal with the 1 location the entire time of being a customer. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I first went 2 years ago and didn't have a good experience but can't honestly remember what happened. Today I needed to get in for contacts and they were able to fit me in on short notice, a positive for sure. I have a difficult work schedule so it's really hard for me to get time to take care of my own needs. I figured maybe whatever happened last time wasn't worth avoiding them as they were able to accommodate me which I really appreciated. I got there at 2:23 for a 2:30 appointment. I was taken back at about 2:45. No big deal. I'm in the medical field so I don't worry about a little wait. The young lady helped with the initial things and then sat me in the exam room at about 3:00. Then I sat and waited. Start to finish I was there for over an hour and never saw the dr. I walked out at 3:33. I have never done that but waiting that long is unacceptable. There was maybe one other patient there. I should have been done with the entire visit in under an hour. Spoke to a woman at the front-desk over the phone on 04/21/2021 at around 2 pm---I simply needed my latest eyeglasses prescription e-mailed to me as I do not live close by any longer. It's an emergency as my eye was damaged and I cannot use my contacts like normal, thus I need glasses. Her answer was entirely bureaucratic and rigid: "Sir, we cannot e-mail prescription information that you paid for because it's expired. You have to come pick up the piece of paper in PERSON". Why? If you'll let me have it in person, why can't you give it to me over the phone/e-mail/text ? Is it more legally binding if I drive 2 1/2 hours? It's my prescription information and it's accurate for me. It's apparent that there's a lack of care for the customer, and it's simply laziness. TSO Stone Oak won't get another dollar out of me, or my peers. read more

My experience here was less than satisfactory to say the least. At first, the doctor I saw was very kind and helpful. The problems started when I went in the pick up the frames I ordered per her prescription. The prescription was clearly wrong due to the fact that I could not see properly when I put the glasses on. However, when I explained this to the young lady who was helping me, she proceeded to argue that I needed to wear them to get used to the new prescription. This is not my first time at an eye doctor, nor is it my first time getting prescription frames. I know the difference between adjusting to a new prescription and not being able to see properly through said prescription. Finally, after arguing with me, yes arguing, she agreed to ask the doctor if I could have my eyes re-examined. The doctor was more than happy to re-examine, and after informed me that she would be changing my prescription and adjusting the frames. Before I left I had noticed that the frames they made for me had blue light technology which I did not request because the blue tent on the glasses bothers me. I was assured that the new prescription would not have this. After about a week I received a phone call to pick up my adjusted prescription frames. When I arrived I noticed that these frames were also blue light frames. When I told the same young lady that help me the last time that these were still blue light frames, she flat out lied to me saying they were not. And then proceeded to argue with me again! Since then, I have had the frames tested at a different location. Guess what? They are blue light protection frames. Not to mention, I have a slight suspicion that they never changed the prescription in the first place because I've worn the glasses for about a week now, and it still seems off. So I basically paid $1000 for a pair of glasses that aren't right however trying to fix them there is such a nightmare. I guess I will take my frames and have another eye doctor re-prescribe and replace the useless lenses. Why the lies? Why does the staff here think it's appropriate to argue with customers? I will not be returning, and I hope that if you consider going to this location you proceed with caution as these frames were rather expensive and the service was much less than satisfactory. read more

I have been going to this location for 6 years and every time I go it's a very good experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They really have their routine down and get you in at your scheduled time. Went to my primary care Dr this morning and waited 2 hours to see her. But I knew when I headed to my TSO Stone Oak appointment I would be in and out in a reasonable amount of time. This was my first time going to this location or getting my eyes checked in general, and as soon as you walk in the door the staff make it very welcoming for you. Very clean and comfortable atmosphere, along with a ton of stylish frames to pick from. From the front desk staff, to the actual optometrist, to Laura who was helping me pick out frames and helping me see which best fit my face, all was a 10/10. For this being my first experience, they took the time to explain everything they were doing and about to you, and why they're doing it. Having to replace them several times a year and one time waiting about a month for a new pair because they never ordered them. Came here for my annual eye exam. Dr. Dunlap is wonderful. She really listens and is very thorough. The actual exam equipment seems to be top of the line and cutting edge technology (well, at least it seems very new and has a lot of buttons). Heather, the optician, is fab as well. Terrible service and a waste of time. On my first visit there I spent over 3 hours at their office. I called ahead to make sure they had all of my insurance information and when I arrived they said they never received. The receptionist spent an hour on the phone trying to verify the information. Once finished, I found out that she had somehow managed to verify me with an insurance company I don't have insurance with - really don't understand how that is even possible. I spent another 45 minutes waiting. She could not answer any of my questions about copay or my coverage and was very rude. I still have yet to receive a correct Contact Lens Prescription. I recently had an unexpected loss of my prescription glasses and needed a replacement pair urgently. At Texas State Optical Stone Oak, I worked with Myranda who immediately made me feel like family! She took the time to relate to my situation, while working diligently to find a replacement pair suitable for me. She asked me probing questions to figure out my style, and even considered the shape of my head/face to pick out the perfect pair of glasses. I can say that I am a picky person, and Myranda never once made me feel like I was being picky. She understood that these glasses would be something I would wear daily for a very long time. When I had questions about costs and insurance, she was very knowledgeable about the process and gave me a detailed price quote so I could place my order. Upon picking up the glasses, I was very happy that Myranda was there and she had me try on the glasses to ensure the prescription was correct AND to make sure that they looked good on me! Why did I walk out before my exam started? I was a new patient, I went in early to fill out the paperwork and look at the selection of eyeglass frames. When called, I went to the back with the technician. As the technician was cleaning the testing equipment, she kept complaining about having to clean all of the equipment because I had ordered all of the test. I told the technician that we didn't need to do all of the tests and I left. After I left, I received a call about why I left. The person on the call seemed more concerned that I loudly requested that all of my information be destroyed and that I was never returning, as there where other customers in the office who overheard. In addition, the eyeglass frame prices are significantly higher than the Manufacture's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). I guess when insurance is involved, everyone likes to maximizes the profits. They were rude when I was making the appointment and rude when confirming my appointment the next day. They lost a potential customer. If you can't answer the phones properly or be nice to people when scheduling an appointment, you can do some seriously business damage. I ignored the first time they were being rude when I was on the phone with them. But them calling me and being rude to confirm my appointment time i had it. I am looking else where for an eye doctor. I rarely write reviews, but my experience at this office was outstanding. From the first call, the receptionist looked up my VSP insurance information, and scheduled a convenient appointment for me. When I arrived, my name was on their marker board as welcoming me as a new patient, and they took me back to conduct tests right away. No waiting, no hassle. Doctor Dunlap saw me very promptly, answered all my questions, made some helpful suggestions, and described precisely what she wanted to monitor in my retina. I purchased some prescription sunglasses there, and was pleasantly surprised how many stylish options they offered. I've had glasses for 40 years, and been to eye doctors in many different states. Many offices don't have the most up to date styles, but this TSO office did. I ordered the glasses, expecting them to be available in 10 days, but they arrived in five. I set an appointment with 2 weeks in advance, they send me remainders every Day and I confirm them, when I got there to "my appointment" they told me they book two at the same time but the doctor said she was "WILLING" to receive me but I have to wait, WTF!!! I was at first very pleased with the exam that I received last year. Then in July of this year I received a notice stating that I owed $114. What? So I call and am told that my insurance only covers a full eye exam every 2 years and that since I had had an exam the prior year, I had to pay for that one. No problem, but why had I not received anything since my appointment in November? I was told that they had been sending monthly statements to me...really? I had not been receiving them otherwise it would have been paid. At that point I was having financial problems and was not able to pay them, but if it was ok I could pay them on the 1st of the month. They agreed and that is exactly what I did. I paid them on 1 Aug 2017. Let's skip forward to my exam this year. Go in, pay for everything and again, my visit was very pleasant. I think everything is hunky dory. Wrong answer! I check the mail today and there is a collection notice for that $114 from the collection agency that TSO obviously uses. WTF? Really? What kind of accounting system do these people have? Do they have monkeys running it? I just don't get it. I've been in twice, paid for everything and am still receiving bills...now collection notices. Believe me, I will not be returning for my exam next year. read more

This is the worst place ever to get an eye exam. The day after my exam, one eye was red and hurting terribly. I called them, they wanted me to pay AGAIN to have it looked at! I said no, and went to my original optometrist who informed me my eye had been scratched during the exam. They wrote a contact lens prescription without putting a base curve on it, and wrote for a power for one eye that doesn't even exist in contact lenses! I've never had this problem anywhere else, and I am now seeking to get my money back, as I now need an entirely new exam to have a valid prescription for both eyes. I keep getting the run around and "I'll call you back" when I attempt to speak to them. I will never go back! read more

I don't buy any of these comments about the staff being rude. They were all very nice when I was there even though it was the weekend. Dr. Dunlap was thorough in the exam and she made me feel comfortable about my eye health. They also have appointments on Saturday which I found helpful as it's difficult for me to find time during the week. Would highly recommend them. read more
