A perfect neighborhood coffee shop, and so much more! If Bohemeo's was just my local coffee shop, it would still earn five stars. Everything else it offers just goes above and beyond. 8 local and/or craft draught beer options (~$4-$8) as well as a sizable bottle collection (12oz to 36+oz) The coffee here is simple and great, as things should be; with quality main ingredients, you don't need a bunch of fluff to dress it up. They do make one blended ice coffee drink that I love, it's been solely responsible for getting me out of bed on more occasions than I care to admit. Very capable, knowledgeable and cute baristas. With two stages, one indoors and one out, Bohemeo's does a number of different types of shows, from poetry readings to musical performances to open mic. They also throw art shows and have a community bulletin board for fliers. Their food menu is rather expansive for such a small kitchen. Salads, sandwiches, pizzas, on top of dessert and little coffee shop pastries in the case up front. Fish tacos (2for$5, 3for$6) are also super popular and excellent. Just the right amount of spice for almost any palate! A couple couches and ~8 little tables inside, surrounding a stage they use for shows, readings, etc. A side patio with six tables (w/ several power outlets!) Back patio with twelve 4-tops under cover surrounding the outdoor stage (perfect place to set up with your friends for a lazy afternoon, or with your laptop for productive evening), and a couple picnic tables and stone benches on grass around a fountain (can anyone say 'late-afternoon-first-date-coffee-with-that-girl-you -just-met-on-your-bicycle'?) I live in the area and there is not really any good coffee shops and certainly no Starbucks to go to. Tried this place and couldnt believe how bad it was. The girl at the front was very rude and acted like she just didnt care. The coffee was nothing great but it was in a tiny cup and was over priced, when a coffee shop is higher than a Starbucks you know there is a problem, terrible value. Also I found the "art work" disturbing, especially the giant disgusting mural on the back right wall, to me it was like looking at the devil, I wont be back. I liked this place very much. I didn't fall in love with it as much as I wanted to. I ordered an iced chai and it was pretty amazing. The lady actually forgot about it, but when I went to remind her she offered a free muffin, and that pleased me enough. The food took such a long time to arrive. I got a veggie burger and it was so so so salty! Its been hours since I've left and I can still taste the salt in my tongue. Before I left I took a chai latte to go. It taste better cold. The decor is okay. Cool place to hang out with friends. The paintings that hang in the wall are for sell too. So if you see one you like, buy at the spot. They change up every week. Really cool find on the eastside of town! Stopped in for coffee and lunch and wasn't really sure what to expect (as I'm not familiar with the area whatsoever). This place reminds me of a lot of the independent coffee shops in Austin - awesome patio, good coffee, art, healthy dishes and no bs. I had the iced hazelnut w/ soy and an Asian salad w/ grilled chicken. Everything was made very well, served in a surprisingly large portions and inexpensive. I was excited to visit Bohemeo's as we are always in the area. I was able to experience their cute courtyard and beautiful decor. However, after waiting for over 45 minutes, and asking the waiter cleaning up another table for a menu no one returned to ask us if we wanted anything to eat or drink. Some friends and I had planned to hit up the Thai place across the street for an early lunch, but since they were not open at 11am we went here instead. All of us liked the food alright, but none of us were amazingly impressed. I had the meatball sub, which was good, but how does it compete with what I can get at Subway or $2 cheaper? Well... it's better... but smaller. It was probably healthier being that it was served on a wheat bread. Overall the sandwich was higher quality than subway and it came with a bag of sun chips all for about $7. I might come back for an open mic night at some point, we'll see... It's a good place to go if you want to support a small independent coffee shop who's existence is probably doing good things for the area. I think they have free wi-fi too! What a cute and hipster place! I came here because of the Adult Swim Art Show that was happening but was really hungry so decided to grab something to eat here. I've been craving pizza all day so I got their chicken BBQ pizza. It was so good! Even though it was on a thin crust and it's a personal pizza, it will fill you up because the toppings! My boyfriend got the turkey panini and he said it was really good as well. The panini came with a side salad. The portions at this place were pretty big in my opinion so it was great! You all, it pains me to write a terrible review for this place because my previous experiences were all positive. But, tonight....I can't even. I just had the worst take out ever. Not even from "here," but EVER. I called in a pick up order after work and was estimated a 10-15 minute ready time. I arrived around 15 minutes later and then waited over 10 minutes for my order. Not even a big deal, but annoying. They are always really slow. The thing that sent me over the edge was my food. I ordered a pizza. Or, what they are calling a pizza. You guys, you guys....this thing was an insult to pizza. It's an insult to food, and I can't believe they serve it. The description on the menu says: "a thin individual size 8 inch wheat crust" pizza. So, I expected a personal size, wheat crust pizza. What I got was a 6 in (maybe) tortilla with an almost imperceptible amount of tomato paste (maybe? it had literally no taste) and almost no cheese...heated up. Then, toppings were just sprinkled on top and not even cooked. I saw it before I left the store but couldn't even say anything. You know what they charge you for this? $7.50. Yep. $7.50 for a tortilla they sprinkled toppings on. This is the laziest excuse for cooking I've almost ever seen. I'm so irritated about it that I almost don't know if I can go back, even though I have loved this place in the past. I think the picture speaks for itself. Bohemeo's is close to my work and a beloved lunch spot for some of my co-workers. There's a bit of a hipster feel to the place, with the decorations and outdoor patio area. The inside is small with a stage for the weekly night performances, which I still want to check out! For food and drink, I've had coffee, the chicken nachos and fish tacos. My favorite of the three is the chicken nachos, which is big enough to share or have to yourself as a meal. Pay a little extra for some avocados on top of your nachos, it's worth it! Fish tacos are on special on Fridays too and they don't skimp on the fish. read more

This is a really cool place. It's like a hippie meets intellectual kind of place. The staff is really friendly. When the bands play, the crowd is usually fair. Most of the bands playing at this place are independent style. The sound is really good. The place has a great patio with tables and benches. Now, this place is not fancy at all but the vibe is great. Open-minded educated people. It really reminds me of the hippie places back home. No BS, just great people and great music. They have a small selection of imported beer. Good coffee. I wasn't too thrilled about the nachos and the menu is kind of boring. The driving is long and they have a fair amount of police patrols since there is a police station close by. Moving onto the art pieces on the wall. Really funky paintings. One was kind of disturbing (the one portraying the Wizard of Oz) which I thought it was also hilarious. I am not a huge coffee drinker... but I do LOVE live music. So when I visit Bohemeo's it is not for the coffee, it is usually to catch a live music act. I have tried their coffee and since I am not one that usually drinks coffee... I can pretty much say that it tastes pretty much like any other coffee that I have had in the past. They do have good desserts... I have tried a few of them... and I have not had anything that I didn't like. As far as the shop itself... it is a quaint little place... with great sound for a venue of its size. The owner has been there every time that I have been there... and he is VERY personable. I will go back time and time again to catch a good band. I have seen performers from Acoustic to Cumbia. Even though I didn't understand the Cumbia music... I loved the energy that the band showed. It was hard to just sit there and enjoy the music without wanting to get up and start jumping up and down with the band. I believe that Bohemeo's has an open mic night every Sunday... it is a great time to go check out some of the GREAT local talent that Houston has to offer. Oh yeah... and before I forget... Bohemeo's is magical. In a world full of gentrified coffee shops offering artisan aoili and snarling signs about how they don't have wifi, because you should talk to each other (read: tether your phone to your laptop and burn through your mobile data) in a desperate attempt to recapture some "rustic/vintage" aesthetic that was rigorously focus grouped, Bohemeo's is a wonder. Somehow, it feels actually bohemeian. Any given day, you'll walk in to see a bunch of students sitting around a table attempting to do a group reading of Ulysses, a task that's completely impossible but they're out there *trying*. Earnestly, even! Or someone sitting on the patio, in a black turtleneck, complete with beret, hacking away at a Smith-Corona typewriter they brought with them and you can immediately know that it's not some affectation, they're just the kind of weirdo for whom that is just the normal order of things. Or some strange group that talks a little too loud and you inadvertently listen in and can't figure if they're some activist group from UH or some kind of new-age cult meeting. God bless the weirdos. Is there better food around? Yes, and the quality here shifts depending on who's working the kitchen. Is there better coffee around? Absolutely, Bohemeo's will never make a list of the Best Coffee Shops anywhere, but they still sling a good cup of joe. Is there better beer around? Definitely, but here you can relax and enjoy it in ways you really can't elsewhere. Everyone's obsessed with the best food, the best coffee, the best drinks, but everyone fails to consider the environment. I had never been on a blind date, so when my friend decided to set me up with Bohemeo's I was a little reluctant. I hadn't yet read what people thought of Bohemeo's on Yelp reviews, so I didn't even know if we would be compatible. Bohemeo's is located on Telephone rd, when I got there I thought: "is this really the place?!" But since I am not into physical appearance 'only' I decided to give him a try. I went in and immediately saw a very different kind of coffee house. It is painted in dark colors, has a little stage, the counter on the right and beautiful painting by Diego Rivera, Frida Khalo and what seemed to be other Mexican artists on the walls. It did feel cozy in there. I definitely saw potential with me and Bohemeo's. I looked out the window and realized there was outside sitting! YES!!!! There may be something here, I told Bohemeo's. I sat outside to wait for my friend. The day was gorgeous and the landscape there is small but very pretty with little plants and a nice fountain. There was also a stage outdoors. When my friend got there, he said he had met Bohemeo's before and thought he was a good guy. So, I continued my blind date with Bohemeo's. There is nothing better than a man who can cook. So, I checked out Bohemeo's menu (although I wasn't hungry) and saw things I would definitely try one day (yes, there will be a second date!!!). I ordered a strawberry smoothie and my friend ordered a banana strawberry and a sandwich (which was delicious as I got the second to last bite). I almost thought our relationship would end before it started when I got my smoothie. It really tasted like milk, nothing else. My friend's however was very good. I asked my friend if he thought I should change it and he tried to convince me to "not be that person" ha!! please. I tried to convince him to do my dirty work (changing it) but he is not an easy guy to convince so, I did it myself. The girl that took care of me was really a sweetheart and apologized for the smoothie and made me a new one. It was great. I don't know what will happen between Bohemeo's and myself, as I still want to try other coffee houses. But I do like him a lot. Bohemeo's and I see eye to eye on a few things. We both feel that you can brew a perfectly good cup of tea hot OR cold. Lunch should not be rushed, but should still be over within that ole hour time slot. Coffee houses and food should mix and other drink options should be readily available. Service should be familial, but not hovery or obtrusive. Low key to the point that it doesn't add any more stress to your hectic life. A sanctuary. I'm not terribly keen on the salads as of yet, but I will get there. If there were to add, say a spinach option, Bohemeo's would consider me a regular. There aren't too many healthy options in the dirty East Side. Bohemeo's is the forerunner and provides some decent options. Paninis. Salads. Sandwiches (that aren't paninis). A exceptionally healthy-looking choco cake that was being decorated when I ordered. Look at the online menu, but note that there is an even more updated menu in the restaurant. I got the salad with fish (feeder fish Tilapia) with a Ginger Sesame dressing. Neither of which are on the online menu. Both of which were perfect for lunch: filling, but light. Oh, I'll most certainly be back. Often. And I'll sit on the patio when I can withstand the temperature for more than an hour. read more

The cafe was practically empty, but the girl who took my order got my food order wrong, forgot that I ordered coffee, and then tried to blame it on her coworker. At least I was still in the restaurant and able to talk to them and get it fixed. However, when I told this employee that I never got my salad, she told me to go in the kitchen and talk to the cook. Being a graduate student at UH can really be a drag. And at times you just need to get off campus and refuel. To do this, I resort to Bohemeo's. It's only a hop, skip, and jump from campus! And you land in a pretty shady location, but we are all pretty used to it by now. Aside from its eclectic neon colors, the place does look a bit shabby. You walk into the coffeehouse and notice rather "interesting" set of art pieces. The seating inside is quite small, but they do have a covered outdoor place with several tables and chairs. If you choose to sit outside, you will be greeted by Bohemeo's adorable cat, Sadie (mew!). She's quite the sleeper and won't bother you too much. The menu offers a variety of coffee drinks and even has some pretty good food options. The first time I came here, I ordered a personal chicken pesto pizza and my friend got the pepperoni pizza. We waited and waited... and finally our pizzas came out after 30 MINUTES (This ain't Domino's delivery!). That was a bit upsetting but the pizzas tasted pretty good. Crunchy crust, flavorful pesto sauce with chicken and mushrooms! Mmm. It's hard for me to complain. Next, we decided to extend our lunch to coffee chit-chat and dessert. We ordered a couple warm coffee drinks and a slice of carrot cake. The coffee wait time was another 20 minutes. This whole waiting game was getting frustrating, but I was sympathetic because there was only one barista serving drinks and one other cook to help. I felt bad for the guy, so I didn't say much. When he delivered the slice of cake, he gave us an extra slice because we were so patient. I thought that was very kind and considerate. The next few times I've just gotten coffee here, and the coffee just wasn't as good as it was the first time. The drinks weren't blended right and just didn't taste that great. Also, they charge an extra dollar ($$) for refills on regular coffee. It seems a bit much, especially since they serve in different-sized ceramic mugs. I really do adore this place. There's the decent sized patio -- perfect for meeting up with friends or members of your student organization. There's the good music they play there during the day and in the evenings, too. There's the friendly staff, and the owner, who is always there to greet you with a smile. There's the iced coffee -- which beats out anywhere in Montrose. There's the open mic night on Sunday -- open, inviting, and great for amateurs and experienced performers alike. And there's the artwork -- it serves as a local gallery, too. Bohemeo's is a gem of a coffee place on the east side near UH. Owners Sid and Lupe Olivarez typify the bohemian artsy culture they hope to emulate in the cafe. Sid is a gifted artist and Lupe a long time Houston musician. The food offerings are limited, but tasty. The fish tacos are at the top of the list. What also makes this a unique experience is the fact that Sid and Lupe really support the arts with poetry readings, open mic nights for music and live bands on the weekends. It's a fun place to see a band or just have a cup of coffee and some wi-fi. At night, grab a beer or a glass of wine. I really hope more people discover this little diamond in the rough. Its out of the way location makes it somewhat difficult to find and some of the area may feel a little sketchy to those not used to visiting the east side, but it's a quaint place with great local owners and well worth visiting. read more

Drive under the arched entry to the Tlaquepaque Market, and you'll find a sort of plaza of shops, including the artsy independent coffee house, Bohemeo's. Inside, you'll find local art hanging on the walls, a few tables and chairs scattered about, some couches in the corner, and a small stage for live music and performances. The baristas at the counter to your right will pull you an excellent espresso, or take your order for their unexpectedly gourmet food. I particularly enjoyed the fish and shrimp tacos, with purple cabbage, cilantro and a sort of chipotle sauce on flour tortillas, but I also saw a number of delicious looking sandwiches brought out to other patrons. What the interior space lacks in size, the exterior makes up for with a covered patio alongside the building, and another, larger one out back among the fountains and vagrant cats. On a nice day, this makes a great spot to enjoy good food, good coffee, or something from their modest beer and wine selection. Giving off a distinct Louisiana / new Orleans vibes which parallels with good jazz and good soul food. The ambiance and vibes of the place were inviting and calming. I like the vibe in here- the people are laid back and really nice without being fake about it. Their coffee is pretty good- the baristas pull a decent shot. I recommend the Americano! As for food, there are a number of vegetarian options! This is a huge draw for me, since this neighborhood is not super veggie friendly. Also, beer! And a patio! The feel and look of the place is really nice, but it smells like old fish grease. The outside patio is spread out and large and no smell unless people are smoking and that's not your thing. The counter service was horrible. I wanted a "common" drink and the woman behind the counter was talking down other coffee shops claiming they were horrible and other rude comments very loudly because they sold the drink I was asking for. It was extremely unprofessional and it made me really uncomfortable, as if what I like is bad and that I am beneath the people that were there. She eventually made the drink for me. I drunk a few sips, placed it down at a table and went to the bathroom. When I came back and it was gone. 5 bucks literally thrown away. I will stick with my other coffee shop options that she claimed were horrible. At least they have good service and don't bad mouth other businesses. So two stars for the patio (might come back just for that). Haven't had the pleasure of the live music and the grease smell made me not want to order any food. (Fish smell really turns off a vegan) Chances are slim. I personally don't recommend if you like coffee. read more

I think this is probably one of my favorite spots to "mobile office" out of. It can be very quiet during the days and tranquil at nights when no art opening or live bands are performing. The only thing that was disappointing is that I went mainly because a local website said they had a live jazz band there that evening, but they weren't playing when using got there nor were they playing when I left. I love Bohemeo's. It's a very chill place that is very art casual and I have been fortunate enough to meet many different types of interesting people there. Beatles open-mic night is always a treat and everyone is encouraged to do their thing onstage. The menu is very decent, they do offer vegetarian selections, coffee and beer. A sweet potato bar and caramel latte are my fave things when the weather is cold..instant comfort :) They're always holding different benefits, where vendors sell their homemade goods or art, for various causes which is awesome. They have a good size patio/outdoor area and the inside of the place is very intimate, way more quiet than the outside lol and they do have different pieces of art on the walls by diff local artists, they do change weekly and I've been lucky to purchase a piece of Chino Moreno of the Deftones by artist Sandy Paez. WIN! To me the only downer is the fact that they only have 2 restrooms, one for men one for women but they are kept clean. The people that frequent there are friendly but you do have the occasional run in with the wannabe hipster that craves to be labeled as an "intellectual" but I guess that's the chance with any place that encourages art in the community. I visited this coffee shop last weekend for a Planned Parenthood Awareness event where my favorite music artist (@PreachBlaq) was performing. The food is great the coffee smells amazing and the staff is so kind. I will be back to this place. It also sits adjacent to my favorite Thai food place also. read more
