I did like this place. The one thing they can do is warm the plates up. This location was very comfortable and cozy. Food was average at best. I think they should reduce the menu and focus on items that they can better support. The menu is way too overloaded for the volume of business they have. The meatloaf that I had was maybe the worst ever. The day that we went was very slow, but I've been by there when you can't find a parking spot. Definitely a great bar. Worth a try. read more

I really wish I could give a higher rating but unfortunately my experience was not the greatest. Rented a cabin in the area for the week and The Boiler was right down the road, figured it would be the perfect take out spot for the first night we arrived. Ordering went smoothly and was ready on time. The bar tender/waitress upon arriving was extremely nice which is why I really do wish I could give a higher rating. But sadly the food that I received should have never been allowed to leave the kitchen. Ordered the coconut shrimp and a Caesar salad. The shrimp was completely burnt to the point of not being able to eat it and left a greasy chemical taste in my mouth. Complete waste of money. read more

I took on the "Boiler Plate Challenge." It was a 6 pound platter of BBQ. It consisted of: pulled pork smothered in BBQ sauce, 16 hour brisket, smoked sausage, a full rack of ribs, sliced pickles, French fries, coleslaw, onion rings, and cornbread. The pulled pork was fantastic, the BBQ sauce they used had an awesome flavor. The 16 hour Brisket was so tender it continuously fell off of my fork as I ate it. No knife required there delicious. The smoked sausage was good but it could have had a bit more salty flavor. The full rack of ribs were very good as well. The bones literally slid right out of the meat they were so tender. The best onion rings I have ever had. I am normally not a fan of onion rings but these were small and very crispy. There was not loose onion dangling around, perfectly done. The French fries were ok not spectacular and not terrible, average. I never have coleslaw but that was also decent, it had plenty of sauce but there was not a puddle of it after I finished which was nice. Finally the cornbread was very dry. It tasted ok but I believe I could make better cornbread than that. Oh and I hate pickles in general so enough about those already. Overall a very satisfying meal. This place knows how to do BBQ food right. They have many more options for meat and sides as well as pizza. I would thoroughly recommend this establishment. I've wanted to give The Boiler a try ever since they opened, but the times I was in town didn't match up with Football Sundays (which I wanted to take advantage of because $2 drafts? Yes please!) Finally we had the pleasure of stopping by yesterday, and I am glad we did! While heading there my husband said, "I assume you know where this place is?!" Admittedly, you wouldn't just happen upon this place as it is quite a way from downtown. If you have some time to make the trek and try it out, you should. The mill is redone and has two parts (bar/restaurant in the "basement" and country store at the other end of the building). The bar has an old-fashioned feel and is nicely done. Seating at the bar was about a dozen stools so you may not be able to belly up to the bar when it's busy. We hesitated to order the loaded fries because the description said "cheese sauce and bacon bits", which had thoughts of Cheez Whiz and Bacos in my head and that didn't appeal. However, turns out it's shredded cheese and real bits of bacon so I am glad I asked! I am guessing others may have shied away after reading that description. We tried the loaded fries with all four of their barbecue sauces and they were all delicious. The $2 drafts were in small mason jars so they appeared to be 12 oz. at best, but the beer tasted cold and fresh. Next time we'll try the pulled pork. read more

We went back to give it another shot tonight and I must say there has been some improvement. Here it goes: The Good: As mentioned before, the spicy pickles are amazing! The shrimp toast was also outstanding. Mashed and baked potatoes were very good. Meh: Meatloaf and gravy were well seasoned and it scratched the home cooking itch, but was dry (except for one piece). Steak tips were seasoned simply with salt and pepper but we're overcooked (medium was anywhere from medium well to well). Mac and cheese looked inviting but barely had a hint of cheese. I'd have been very unhappy if I'd have went with the lobster mac and cheese and got that). The Bad/Ugly: The table we were to be seated at had not been wiped down (food, sauce/mystery liquid on table). The waitress removed the "unused" water glasses, sprayed and wiped the table and then RE-USED the glasses on the table. She then said she would leave the glasses in case we wanted water (No way in hell!). This is a re-training/disciplinary issue that needs to be fixed imeadiately. The physical plant is unique for the area, the bar seemed to be busy and people looked happy. I'd love to love this place but I just can't. Ordered an app, drinks then she took our order. Drinks come, app comes then we wait....and wait .... I had to go to the bar to ask for our waitress cause she was no where in sight. Mean while. The restaurant had maybe 3 other parties so it wasn't busy. The waitress comes back says sorry I was changing the soda tank??? (WTF!)Your order will be right out.......... really?The manager comes by and says did she come by, I can't find her.....Seriously? Mean while we have been at that table now for an hour and 15 minutes! She comes back to the table and says there's a problem....(DON DON DONEEEEE) the printer in the back never printer your order. It's going to be 20 minutes more! The drinks are on the house. I said no way. His chicken dinner he ordered takes a while. She comes back and says it will be ready in 10...nope! On our way out the door the manager feels the need to tell us the girl was crying in the back and she thinks she's going to quit! She should! We left and it was now 8 and we were starving. Went here after my 30th bday weekend on our way home from an air bnb in Dalton, ma. A little out of the way off of rt 2, but we're glad we ventured out to give Boilers a try. We started with a couple of beers and the potato skins. Probably one of the best we've had. Only issue was we wanted them with pulled pork, but they were out so went with them topped with chili. Still very good. For our entrees we had the brisket and Ruben. Brisket was falling apart tender and Ruben was also delicious. Service was also very friendly and prompt. You can tell a lot of love and thought went into the planning and décor. Staff is always friendly and eager to please. The food?...the food is AWESOME!! Yes, the prices are on the moderate end, but, well worth every penny!! We have gone several times since they opened in May and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever! We have brought the kids, 4 of them, a few times and they were welcomed and pleased with their meals as well. Bread served pre-meal with homemade herb butter, is fresh baked and differs each week. I could live on the stuff!! The smoked prime rib, I was skeptical about initially. "Who in their right mind would smoke prime rib!?" Let me tell you, it is the best rib I have ever had! The smoke flavor is subtle and the garlic mashed potatoes as a side with the rib is a must have! Mac & Cheese is to die for, with or without the addition of lobster. I cant review the service as I know the waitress personally and I want to be objective. All of the food is from scratch and its fresh. I like that and its appreciated. Decor- I liked it alot. And tgere was some live music in the bar. Wasnt bad at all and it wasnt too loud. It added to the experience without taking it over. Drinks were tasty and the martinis have liquor in them. I got tge special which was the mango duck. First came the side salad. Didnt like it. The lettuce they use brings a weird texture and there is too much of it. Go with a smaller sald w less lettuce and more tomatoes and cukes. Dressing was fine. Now I have only had duck at 2 other places so im not an expert. Now at the other places I got half a duck and it was tender....only needed a fork. At the boiler I got a leg and a wing and it was dry. I did like that they didnt overdue the mango flavor. I didnt like that I should beed a steak knife to eat it. The sides were great. Mash potatoes were good, I really liked their beans and I sampled the roasted beets, which I also liked alot. My daughter got the grilled cheese with a roasted tomatoe soup. The sandwich looked outstanding and it was a grilled cheese.....made me wish I tried a rueben. Found this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. We walked into a pub with a really decent singer -- he had a nice voice and sang music I liked. The pub has a nice atmosphere and a good bar with a dozen draft beers. We started with the fried spicy pickles. I loved them. Then, we both ordered the BBQ -- the chicken was super. We went on a Saturday night and had leftovers for lunch Sunday and again for supper Monday. They have 2 kinds of homemade BBQ sauce and I really liked the honey chipotle. The owner greeted us when we arrived and stopped by our table before we were finished eating to see if we enjoyed our meals. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We have gone to this restaurant four or five times in the last three years and once the food was very good, which kept us hoping it would become more consistent. The other times have been varying in mediocre food and service to bad, This last visit was awful, although service was stellar.. They advertised prime rib, and at 5:30 we're "out" of medium rare and only had well done. The brisket was dry and the other cuts of meat ordered at our table poorly prepared, and tasteless. The mashed potatoes inedible. We give up, and will not be back, which for us is sad as we live so close. read more

I just want to say that the food here was great the problem was the banquet hall. Everything is fine and dandy "yea we can do that we will have that all set up for you. We will have multiple staff on board" Until the day of when nobody is even around to ask questions, finish the laundry for the table cloths, and even the chef that was mainly saying he was in charge to find out he wasn't even there on the wedding day. I understand things happen it won't be perfect on your wedding day but I expected a little bit more from this restaurant that is renting out the hall for weddings. This is my second time here. I came 11 months ago and did not give it a good review. I got an email from Dave, the owner, who stated that they closed for a short time and made some changes. I went tonight, a Sunday evening at 6pm. We, my teenage daughter and I, were immediately sat and drinks ordered. Bread came quickly. The bread was warm and sweet, very good. Appetizer ordered, fried pickles. They were to kill for delicious. And the sauce that came with it was awesome. I ordered some wine, Blackstone Cabernet. It was decent and inexpensive. My daughter ordered the Sirloin, with garlic smashed and parmesan fries ( 2 potatoes, I know). I ordered the Trio Sampler of ribs, brisket, and garlic sausage with the drunken beans and fries. Everything was fantastic. They make their own bbq sauces and they were great. It took a little while for the main meal, but I don't mind waiting for made-to-order food. The waitresses, Roxanne and Lynnette, were wonderful. I never had to ask for anything. I accused them of being sisters, but they're not. Overall, I would definitely go back again. Went there with a friend, had to wait over an hour for our meal with the waitress just avoiding eye contact instead of coming over to explain why the wait was so long. Never brought bread or anything to tide us over and we were really hungry - but she just kept ignoring us. When the meals finally did come just seconds before we were ready to up and walk out, they were very unimpressive looking plates. It's very simple to put a sprinkling of chopped parsley on something or a slice of orange - anything to make the plate look better , they just looked so blah. My friends chicken was dry, mine was very salty, his loaded baked potato was a joke. One small teaspoon of sour cream and about half a teaspoon of cheese, that's it. No bacon bits, no parsley,nothing. The portions were rather tiny for the price that's for sure, so needless to say we were both very disappointed with our meals.Won't be going back. read more

The Boiler is an excellent new restaurant/bar. My s.o. and I really enjoy going, since it's on the Royalston/Orange border, close to home. They have superb food and a full bar with many brewery options on tap. I especially like to try the bbq, since there's not many place in New England that know how to cook bbq like this place can. The steaks and chicken are also great - it reminds us of the pubs we visited in Ireland. There's 2 giant tvs to watch [usually sports] and a nice quiet area tucked away if you're on a date. The layout is very pub-like and comfortable. The owner, Dave, is very friendly and can tell you all about the history of the factory building that he's renovated for his new business. I've read some of the bad reviews and they appear to be written by frightened competitors, which is often the case on yelp. We used to love Il Italianos in Winchentucky, MA that was wiped out by disgruntled former employees and scared competition - so ignore the dummies that have given middling to poor reviews - they are incorrect or just plain scared! It seems this place has peeked. Back in March I was here, I had a great prime rib dinner. The meat had an even redness to it, the sides were loaded with flavor. But after going back several times since I notice the presentation and quality continued to skip. My most recent trip was the worst. After ordering a medium rare prime rib I was presented with a gray colored piece of meat. When I asked why it wasn't cooked to my liking I was told to cut into it. Sure enough it was medium rare. But the fact it was gray indicated it was a reheated piece, hence the gray color due to the hot water invoked in the reheating process. This is NOT the way any meat should be served. This has been the trend in regards to the quality in the past few months. I think I will avoid the place for a while in hopes that they finally come back around. We have had 2 visits to this restaurant. The first time was in October 2015. The food was decent. We had the meatloaf and the strip steak. Meatloaf was average. The steak was good. Our waitress was very nice. As we were there for dinner, we sat in the dining area (versus the bar area where there was live music). To say that it was chilly in the dining area is being generous. The owner came over to our table to talk up the space heaters on the ceiling that he had just turned on and how cost efficient they are and the amount of heat they pump out etc. The space heaters may very well be cost effective but we were nothing less than chilled to the bone the entire time. Our next (and LAST) visit was tonight for dinner. Again, we were there for dinner-sat in the dining area. It was an absolute ice box. We were sitting directly under the space heater and still had to keep our jackets on! I ordered a soda which was given to me in a small disposable plastic cup (??). We ordered the Boiler Room Pasta (garlic, pesto & smoked tomatoes with linguine) with steak on top and for my meal I ordered a simple baked potato- sour cream and butter on the side and the vegetable of the day (which was broccoli with cheese). When the waitress came with our food she clearly was trying to carry too much at once and dropped the sour cream causing it to spill on both my sweater and pants. The baked potato had to be sent back as it had cheese and bacon on it. When another one was delivered to the table it was almost half the size of the first one. The broccoli was not with an actual cheese sauce but more of a watery white-ish liquid that didn't even stick to the vegetable itself. The Boiler Room pasta was a watery tasteless bowl of pasta (not linguine). Just now when checking their website to be sure I was accurately naming the pasta dish I learned that the menu says this is "served with a choice of salad". Waitress never even offered this. We had no complaints about the steak on top. When the waitress brought our check she decided to take our plates before walking away. Again piling plates on top of one another and clearly trying to carry way more than she could handle she almost dropped one right on me that was inches from my face. All that being said, we won't be going back. Oh and the entire time we were there, there was dirty table with food on it next to us (that was empty) that was never cleaned. read more

Guess how many this restaurant had? 1! One high chair for the whole place!! No room to wait, only stairs to stand up on. Very poor service.
