An amazing experience, from start to finish. Boilerhouse Prime is 100% worth the splurge, in my opinion. My food was excellent, the service was top-notch and the ambiance is beautiful. It was a great place to have a nice solo steak dinner in West Lafayette. I don't eat steak often, but when I do, I want it to be amazing. And my steak was amazing! I got the 8-ounce Linz Heritage filet, Sam Allen style, which meant that it also came with grilled shrimp and a chimichurri. Yum yum yum to all three things. I usually order my steak medium-well, but the server suggested medium, so I went with it. Good choice! My server was very wise, even though he looked like he was still in college. Along with the steak, I got a side of grilled mushrooms, which came in a brown sauce with chives sprinkled on top. But first: I started with an heirloom tomato salad, which was served with stracciatella cheese, basil and these cool balls that looked like roe, but were actually balls of balsamic vinegar. Fancy! It was fresh and light, and the perfect appetizer to get during a summer in Indiana, when them tomatoes be poppin'. I don't know why I'm reviewing my meal backward, but just go with me, people. Before everything, you get complimentary rolls and butter. Oh man! I could have made a meal just from the bread and butter, both of which were tender and soft, and so salty and flavorful. At the very beginning of my meal, I started with an Old Fashioned, because I read that Boilerhouse Prime is known for their Old Fashioneds. This one was well balanced, and came with a nice bourbon cherry. I also got a glass of Malbec along the way with my meal, which went well with my steak. This seems like an adults-only restaurant, but I was sitting close to a big table that had a family with kids, so well-behaved kids are definitely allowed, even though I did not see a kids menu. read more

If you judge your dining experience based on how much you spend, you're gonna love this place. However if you base it on the food quality given the price point, you will not be as enamored with it. Last time I got the lobster bisque and it may have been the best I've ever had. I ordered it again and it was terrible. Just terrible. Tasted kind of bitter and was much too dark for a lobster bisque. The side dishes are enormous and they were all ok. The charred broccoli is an entire stalk thrown on a grill. Char on outside, raw on inside. Lovely. My American Wagyu bone-in strip was good, though it tasted no different than prime meat and did cost $95. I would have hoped for better than just 'good'. Family enjoyed most items. I sampled the wedge and really liked that. Probably best part of the meal. Oysters were excellent. Drinks are always good here. They have upgraded their rum list and have some high quality ones now. That's great! Service is always top notch. I will definitely be back for happy hours. The food at this restaurant is good. But when 2 adults and 3 kids drop $800 on a meal, it really ought to be fantastic, not just good. read more

We went on New Years. Clearly they were slammed and had key employees not show up according to the manager who apologized profusely. We will give it another shot because of that. We were celebrating our anniversary so it was a special night for us. Our waitress was super but stretched thin so she wasn't as attentive as she probably was on another night. This is a very upscale place. Decor and service reflect that. Good old fashioned steakhouse vibe. Oysters Rockafeller were perfect. Bread was fresh and absolutely delicious. He had American Wagyu Ribeye. I had Steak Oscar. Both were cooked appropriately. Maybe slightly under seasoned as we both added salt which is not typical for us. The Old Fashioned was really good and they had a wide selection of wine/beer and a handful of specialty cocktails. Our 2nd round of drinks was comped due to slow service at the bar and dessert was on the house for our anniversary which we really appreciated. We will definitely go back and try other things on the menu. Our steaks were good but I wouldn't say they were worth the price. $110 for his and $80ish for my Oscar. It was a filet with truffled hollandaise sauce and a scant amount of King Crab. They no longer serve King Crab due to the cost. Strange. If we would pay $110 for a steak why wouldn't we pay for King Crab due but that was a minor detail. I wouldn't say have preferred more crab...give me snow crab. The dessert was delightful. This restaurant has a nice ambiance but there is room for improvement. As a heads up, it's definitely on the pricier side. (e.g. the scallop dish had exactly 3 scallops for what you're paying.) Prices on the menu have also gone up since other Yelper pics of the menu. The bread and butter was delicious. There is a lot of it, so I asked to box up the leftover bread and butter. The waiter took it but definitely did not box up the same amount of bread that I left behind. I only received a fraction of what I expected to be boxed up. The butter was flat out discarded. I would have just boxed it up myself had I known that they'd make sure it would go to waste. Not sure what happened to my actual leftover bread. The waiter was telling me all about the desserts and really played up the baked Alaska. It sounded great and I had my heart set on it after hearing all about how awesome it was and then he came back and said they ran out. It would have been more efficient to check up on inventory before talking up the different menu items. read more

We were in town for a college graduation and wanted to have a nice dinner to celebrate and unfortunately this was not the place. Here is the Good and the bad.... The Good - we were running late due to the college graduation traffic and I called the restaurant to advise we might be late to our reservation ( be advised highly recommend reservations - made ours 2 months in advance for a Saturday evening) and the host was totally understanding and accommodating. The food was very good, the bread - freshly baked, sprinkled with sea salt, fluffy and warm. The butter was whipped which is great so it's not fighting with the bread! The Cesar salad is enough to share and dressed appropriately. Be advised whole Anchovies are on top of the Cesar Salad and Anchovies are in the dressing. Ordered one of the Tomahawk specials 1.5 lb American Waygu- which is cooked to order then brought to the table for presentation and brought back to the kitchen to be sliced, this was shared steak for our table and one of my guest liked their steak a little less pink and the kitchen cooked a couple of the tomahawk slices to her request. Now for the Bad - our server Alexis she was not very good. An Old Fashioned was ordered and never served and we waited to see if it would arrive during our dinner service however no drink at all appeared thankfully we all had water so she was able to have a beverage. When mentioned to Alexis an old fashioned was ordered not only did she question us to ensure it was ordered she made it seem like the request was a figment of our imagination after this was a drink she recommended. Alexis then looked thru her note pad and did see she wrote down the order for the old fashion at this point we had already paid and Alexis says could she bring her the drink we say no so she proceeds to say well next time you are in town the drink is on her after we just got down letting her know we are from out town and her asking if we were celebrating anything and we let her know a graduation. Alexis did not even know if Coke Zero was served, her excuse was the tanks are very small. Very disappointing service. The steak knives are dull and need a to be sharpened especially since this restaurant serves steak. The butter knives cut better than the steak knives. Ordered the Whipped Potatoes and while the seasoning was good I would hardly call them whipped more like mashed and needing more butter. The lacked presentation overall. Needless to say we most likely will not return if in the area again but if I was I would rather go to Indianapolis or Chicago. read more

Best steakhouse in West Lafayette or Lafayette. So nice to have a high end steakhouse here. It is on the campus of Purdue at the golf complex. A beautiful building. Dinner and service were outstanding. We started with the lobster salad, shrimp cocktail and wedge salad. All were fantastic. The lobster salad was nice for something different if you didn't want shrimp cocktail. The bacon strip on the wedge is quite impressive. Then we had the salmon Wellington, roasted chicken and prime rib. All were excellent. The side of onion rings were huge. The bread service was good, pull apart Parker house rolls. Have been back 4 times and still love the food. The issue has been the level of service. It's not bad, but it definitely is not up to the level of expectations that come with a restaurant of this caliber. Waiting several minutes with empty glasses, finished appetizers without main dishes ordered etc. does not meet expectations for this type of experience. If it was just a singular experience then it would be different, but it's been each visit. 4 groups of colleagues report similar experiences. Good place for a very special occasions maybe once every couple years and don't mind blowing the wad. Exceptional dining experience. Ambiance is wonderful including a beautiful seafood display at the bar. Everything we ate was delicious down to the complimentary bread. They have a great selection of east and west coast oysters, which is a rare find in Indiana. Shrimp cocktail was fantastic. Steak was cooked exactly how I ordered it and lobster tail was large and flavorful. Our waitress Ashley was attentive and knowledgeable. First, our service was excellent!! After the great service came our lobster bisque which was one of the best I've had! For my main course I had the waygu bone in sirloin, and it was excellent! The flavor was spot on and I added the peppercorn sauce which enhanced the flavor. Around our table, others had the filet Oscar, prime rib and the Boiler Up (filet with lobster tail). Everyone completely loved their meals! For sides we had the Mac and cheese, whipped Yukon potatoes, broccoli, and onion rings. All were great, but definitely more than enough! Dessert drinks were a pecan old fashioned, Crème Brule, and a Tiramisu drink. Again, all were great! We will definitely be back, and I can't recommend this place enough! read more

The service was amazing but food was mediocre. The bread was amazing but it's a steakhouse and they've got work to do to compare themselves to other upscale restaurants. The steak was dry, flavorless, and there was no steak sauce to support the dryness and blandness of the meat. The server suggested a cheaper cut off meat because of its tenderness, it was quite the opposite. I do appreciate not paying 90 bucks for a filet similar to someone in my party who got a dry piece of meat. read more

This relatively new restaurant (it opened a bit more than a month ago) will soon be known, if it isn't already known, as the highest-end place in the Lafayette area. It is expensive (the online menu on the restaurant's website does not list prices, bringing to mind the old adage that if you have to ask, you can't afford it) but the quality of food is generally excellent, as is the service (we had a whole team of servers, all of whom did their job very well. The only one of the servers I remember by name was our waitress Leza, who was outstanding). My wife and I went here for dinner along with our daughter, our SIL, and seven-year old granddaughter several days ago to celebrate one of our birthdays. I had been hoping to eat on their outdoor patio but due to construction delays it had not yet opened (although it may well be open now). Upon being seated we were served a plate of really delicious Parker House rolls with what seemed like homemade butter. (We got a second plate on the house, and were told that subsequent plates would cost five dollars each. I don't know whether we would have gotten two plates of complimentary rolls if we hadn't been two families. In any event, an order of these rolls is certainly worth five dollars.) We started out with two appetizers that we split among the five of us: the truffle honey burrata and a roasted Wagyu meatball ($18 each). Both were quite tasty and good-sized, though I don't think the meatball was improved by being doused in tomato sauce. Perhaps it would have been better if the sauce had been on the side. For entrees, I had the prime rib ($58), my wife had the salmon wellington ($42), my daughter the scallops ($42), my SIL the sea bass ($37), and my granddaughter had buttered noodles ($12). There is no printed kid's menu, but when we asked our server if there was one, she verbally listed about half a dozen items for kids. (The only other one I remember now is chicken tenders.) Since entrees do not generally come with side dishes, we ordered two to share: the whipped potatoes ($12) and the "billionare's twice baked potato" ($22). The food ranged, I would say, from very good to outstanding. (In the "outstanding" category, I would put the salmon wellington, buttered noodles, and scallops.) Of the items just mentioned, the one weak link, I think, was the twice baked potato, which was a very, very good baked potato with cheese and shaved truffles, but which didn't seem to me to be worth 22 dollars. Not only was the food tasty, but the portions were large: my prime rib, for example, was 16 ounces, and I wound up getting not only a leftover meal from it, but three of them. The side dishes are all easily enough for two people, perhaps three. I have some specific suggestions, both for prospective patrons and for the restaurant. Taking the latter first: since you have salmon wellington on the menu, why not think about adding beef wellington as well? That's one of my favorite dishes and I don't know of any place in the area that serves it. Also, when we were seated, we were asked if we were celebrating any special occasions; we told her about the birthday, and she said "happy birthday" at the end of the meal, but when she began the meal by asking the question I wondered if there was going to be a free dessert or something for the birthday person. It's not really a big deal, but it seems like a letdown to ask a question like this that provokes false hopes. And the suggestion for prospective diners: join the Loyalty Club a few days before your visit. I did this soon after the restaurant opened and received a $25 credit as some kind of signing bonus (I don't know if this was an opening special or if it is routinely done). Loyalty members also get a point for every dollar spent, and a $25 credit when you reach 250 points. Conclusion: a restaurant of this quality is a valuable addition to the Lafayette dining scene. This may not be a place for a casual family dinner, but it seems like an excellent venue to celebrate a special occasion, or to take somebody out to dinner who is being recruited for a position somewhere. The story of a $22 Baked Potato Finally got to try the newest steakhouse in West Lafayette, Indiana on May 1, 2025. This is clearly a place to go for special occasions. The service is phenomenal and the location is lovely. I recommend you get a table by the windows and watch the sun set over the golf course as you dine. More thoughts: Ambience: the restaurant is on the second floor of a two-story golf clubhouse. (The main floor has a casual bar and a pro shop.) The restaurant interior is dark and sparsely decorated. It has a fire feature wall, an interior wall with a few well-lit Purdue momentos, and two walls with large windows. You may find yourself positioned to face a flat black plain wall, thus my suggestion to get a seat by the windows. At first, I thought the restaurant was small, but then I realized diners sit in three areas: the main dining room, tables by the bar, or a smaller dining room next to the kitchen. This makes it feel more intimate. There are both tables and booths and we sat at a booth. It was very comfortable even though I fought with the table cloth getting in and out. Food: my friends got the filet mignon and I got the prime rib. We shared the "billionaire's" twice baked potato and the onion rings. Today I learned that "shareable sides" is a thing. Because honestly, I couldn't figure out why the baked potato was $22. Turns out it was 1.5 lbs of potato cheesy goodness. Still, I'm not a fan of this new trend because it makes the bill harder to split. And you spend the first moments of your dinner divvying everything up. The filets were seasoned well and cooked exactly as ordered. The prime rib was just fine, nothing special. If I were to come back, I would definitely order the filet mignon. It was really good. Skip the onion rings...I mean, they photograph well, but they didn't taste any better or worse than onion rings from a diner. And they were harder to eat. (See pic). My friend got chocolate cake for dessert. The frosting was fabulous, but the cake was dry. If you want good chocolate cake, drive up Northwestern to the Bryant. Service: Service is top class. The wait staff were experienced and well trained. I was also surprised at the number of servers. We had a main server, a person to fill our water glasses, a person to bus, a manager to check on us, a person to deliver our food, and a different person to deliver our drink from the bar. It didn't seem efficient and created quite a bottleneck at the entrance to the main dining area, which is shared by the customers. This is more of an observation that a complaint. I'm guessing some of these people were trainees. One last note: the servers pack up your leftovers for you so you don't have to scrape your plates into a Styrofoam container at the end of the night. Classy! Parking: you can self-park for free or valet park for $7. We arrived at 5:45 pm and the parking lot was full! There's backup parking across the street/roundabout, but it's a harrowing walk. Price/value: I've included photos of the menu so you won't experience sticker shock upon arrival. Boilerhouse Prime is EXPENSIVE. I personally don't think it was worth it, but there are some reasons to try it. It's new and fun (see bar). It's fancy, so a great place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. The steak is great and hey, maybe you need to impress someone? Our bill for 10 oz filet, 16 oz prime rib, 1.5 lb baked potato, onion rings bigger than your head, an old fashioned cocktail, and 20% tip totaled $220. That's $110 each. It's also two weeks worth of groceries for us. Honestly, the cost was so high, it made it hard to enjoy - even though we knew ahead of time that it would be pricey. The food quality and service deserve five stars but I'm taking a star off for their pricing structure. read more
