    Store front is very inviting
    Tina H.

I'm from Texas so I don't know much about apple picking but this over delivered on what I imagined it to be. The country store is very inviting with beautifully colored pumpkins outside and inside is an overwhelming amount of gorgeous produce to choose from. If you are physically fit, I recommend walking across the street and up the hill to pick your own apples. On a 1-10 scale, its a 1 in regard to easy stroll. The view is amazing and the air is fragrant with the smell of apples. I tried a few different type apples and they were all so good...blew away the best apples I've bought from whole foods. We got some really awesome pictures and it was an awesome stop on my New England Fall Foliage viewing trip. PS: We didn't even spend a dime, we just walked up the hill to look around. We can't take all those apples back to Texas with us but I wish we could. I'd be here every week if it were near me.

Store across the street from the apple picking entrance and parking lot
    Vez K.

We got there at noon on Saturday, October 9th and found the parking lot for the apple picking more than half empty. We decided to head first to the store across the street to buy cider donuts and hot apple cider (since we only had breakfast and no lunch). We got the cider donuts inside the store (where they have bags of either cinnamon sugar or plain donuts). To get a mixture of the two kinds and to get our drinks, we had to go outside. The cashier let us pay for everything inside (since we wanted to use a credit card, and they don't accept cc's at the entrance to the orchard), along with our bag for apple picking ($20 for a bag to hold about 20 pounds of apples). 4 people are allowed per bag, so that worked out perfectly. The cider donuts were barely warm and overly sugary. They were okay, and didn't taste like anything special. I was sadly disappointed, especially after reading so many great reviews about how great they are. We even went back after apple picking to buy another half-dozen they claimed were warm, though they too were too sugary and slightly warm. Some of the donuts were a bit moist and better than the others. But overall, they weren't anything special. So sad! I was totally looking forward to it. As for the apple cider and the picnic tables by the outside window, beware! I had yellow jackets (or maybe wasps) swarming around my apple cider! I barely put them on the picnic table for a minute, and they were already all around. I had to carefully stick my hand in and grab my donut bag and cup of cider. We thought the cider was too sweet. :( As for the apple picking, we had an amazing time! It was so nice and peaceful out in the orchard picking apples. The 3 of us took a hay ride (which was actually pretty fun) up the hill on the right and then walked up to the top of the hill and downward tasting apples and picking ones we liked. The best tasting apples were the Crispen (green, though not sour apples) and the Spencer (blue tag; brighter red/white apples). These were crisp, sweet, and crunched very loudly when we bit into them. Delicious! We were there for about 2 hours total, and got pretty exhausted and FULL from trying out so many apples. We took tons of pictures, and had fun doing that. The orchard had very few people, since it's so big and spread out. I recommend starting near the top of a hill and then walking down. Try apples, and then pick what you like when you find ones you like. I would even recommend making note of the ones you like and where they were, and then going back and picking them all at once toward the end. That way, you don't have to haul around a heavy bag of apples with you. Then again, it's fun to pick as you taste as well. When we were leaving at about 2 pm, I noticed the parking lot was about 80% full, the line for the donuts across the street was longer, and almost all the picnic tables were full of people. I guess most people like to go apple picking after lunch. Apple picking - 5 stars Cider apple donuts - 3 stars Hot apple cider - 3 stars Customer service in store - 2 stars (the girls at the cash register were impatient teenagers who didn't seem to wanna be working there) Suggestions: 1. Eat a big breakfast or early lunch before heading out there to avoid a bigger crowd after lunch 2. Sample smaller apples so you'll have room to taste lots 3. Start at the top of a hill and work down so you don't have to carry a 20 pound bag of apples around 4. Go with a group of 2 - 4 people so that you can all share a bag (1 bag = $20 = 20 lbs of apples). They let up to 4 people share one bag for apple picking. 5. Bring some water with you to wash down the apples 6. Eat a non-sweet breakfast with protein; you'll not wanna eat anything too sweet for a while after sampling so many apples and eating cider donuts and drinking apple cider 7. Bring hand sanitizer to use after using the porta-potties (there are no official bathrooms). 8. Wear bug spray and sunblock 9. Allocate about 1 - 2 hours (or more if you'd like) for apple picking 10. Pay inside the store if using a credit card Overall, we had a LOT of fun and loved being able to have the freedom to walk around, taste and eat as many apples as we wanted. The orchard was beautiful, especially at the top of the hill where the hay ride drops you off. It gave a wonderful view and was a nice place to even sit down and have a picnic. :) I'll definitely be going here for apple picking next time I'm in Boston.

Apple dumpling and ice cream (sold separately)

I came here after Nashoba valley sold out of their apple cider donuts, but I'm glad they did because I discovered the best apple cider donuts here! It was crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside! Yum! I also got the apple dumpling. It was okay, nothing special but also nothing to complain about. Tasted like an apple pie. I bought ice cream to compliment the dumpling. I also like that this place has seating and a market to shop and buy things to bring home.

Apples on the tree at Bolton Spring Farm

Woulda been five stars if they didn't have such a limited system of paying for the apples you pick. Basically you get a large bag, and you have to pay a $20 flat rate, no matter how many apples you actually want. I'd prefer to pay by the pound, but oh well. The orchards are beautiful and the apples are high-quality and DELICIOUS. We noticed a lot of Courtland and Red Delicious, although the signs posted around list at least 15 different kinds of apples. It was difficult to figure out which apples were on which trees although the orchard has some kind of color-coded tag system. It didn't really help. There's a farm store across the street which is every bit as great as the other reviews state. It was so much fun to browse through all their baked goods, apples, fresh veggies, milk and eggs, fall candles and decorations, etc. Their cider donuts, which we did have to stand in a slooooooooooow line to get, were delicious and hot out of the fryer. YUM. And all the pastries were totally inexpensive. Oh, and they're dog friendly! My lab enjoyed sniffing around the orchard, and he even got a treat from the guy who made us pay $20 for the bag.

Certainly deserving of their "best apple cider donut" title. Donuts are delicious and the other baked goods are great.

From Boston, it's a scenic drive out to Stow. I couldn't stop gushing over the foliage on the way there - I've turned into a total leaf peeper. Carver Hill is absolutely stunning in the fall, definitely worth a trip. Pleasantly surprised to find the lot half-empty when we arrived on the later side of a Saturday but then it filled up by the time we left around 3. To your right, as soon as you drive in, you'll see an area with pumpkins and the farm store - this is also where you get PYO fruit/veggies if you're paying with credit. If you have cash on hand, you can pay for a bag at the little stand right in front of the orchard. A peck (the smaller bag) was $25. I was a little skeptical at the size but it's a good deal if you really pack your apples in there. From there, the apple orchard. Not the biggest I've been to and the selection was understandably limited. We missed the sign to download the QR code for a map of the orchard and so had to rely on a photo of a thin pole with all the names/colors wrapped around it. Don't forget to stop at the store before you leave. I grabbed some pumpkin pie, jam, and an apple cider donut - they also have apple cider slushies and multiple flavors of ice cream. The donut was THE BEST, made fresh, almost falling apart, thick and generous coating of cinnamon and sugar (also tasted nutmeg and allspice in the coating). Absolutely worth waiting in the line for, but make sure to pay first and get a little yellow receipt/tag from the register before you get in line for the donuts.

Lovely experience Apple picking at Honey Pot Hill Orchards this last week…read more Service was great all around despite over an hour wait for the cider donuts (which were most definitely worth the wait). Apples were extremely tasty with great variety and plenty of ladders for picking. My only fret was that the signage at times was not the most clear. And the best part: the ambiance of it all. Perfect cool day in Mass with all the Fall colors and families having a great time... it was such a positive atmosphere. Would totally go again.

I got a small bag for $12.50 which was a great deal. I had no problem with parking. I got a good amount of apples, although I wish the signs for the types of apples were clearer. The main reason my rating isn't higher is due to the policing near the exit. I've been through security at concert venues that were less scrutinizing. When I was leaving, an employee was near the entrance was inspecting the wagon of a family with multiple bags. I didn't hear the entire conversation but I did hear the employee lecturing them about not overfilling the bags. The employee also said to not reuse the bags (something that could be prevented if they wrote the dates on the bags as other orchards do) and understandably the family said they wouldn't come back. Even though I wasn't the target of the apple police, it created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The best part of my visit was the cider donuts. The farm store was disappointingly small with mainly apples and cider available for purchase. Considering the plethora of options for apple picking in MA, I don't plan to return here.

The brands have changed. The orchards are overgrown and covered in poison ivy with no landscaping to protect patrons, not even warnings. They no longer prepare ordered sandwiches fresh or pastries and soups. Instead just throw together a couple premade soggy sandwiches. Who makes a turkey and ham with a piece of lettuce sandwich and charges $8? I don't know if management changed, but the delightful and welcoming service is now void. I felt as if I was a bother and got the drift I wasn't at all welcomed with underlying tones of "ok get what you see and get out." I miss the kind ladies from 15-20 years ago who treated you like old friends. I had driven about 20 miles, excited to visit this old orchard I adored for years as a summer day escape to refresh. I left feeling heavily disappointed, turned away and realizing the age of kind service, pleasant and genuine "how do you do's" are a thing of the past. The sadness leaving was palpable. I really used to love this place. I could tell the staff just wanted to do the least and clock out. It left a very poor taste in my mouth. Dare I say a broken heart. The soul is gone. I ask that I don't receive a response from ownership because it will just hurt more.
