Chris, (I hope I'm remembering his name right) was prepping in the kitchen but stopped to personally greet us and was genuinely one of the nicest employees of any business I can remember interacting with in years. He was phenomenally nice, helpful and just a genuinely awesome person to deal with. Their food is top notch, everything is fresh, the chicken is outrageously good and the grilled cheese my daughter got was out of this world good (I stole a bite). The hot honey chicken sandwich is addictive but most of all knowing their ingredients are fresh and there aren't short cuts is the best part of the whole Nan's experience. But Chris was the kind of employee everyone dreams of hiring, it was over a month ago we were there but I made it a point to write this review because of him and their food. Amazing farm to table lunch place found in the middle of obscure Stow. It's locally known for their healthy and delicious grain bowls and chicken Sammies. Hubby ordered their Nashville chicken Sammy and was thoroughly satisfied while after 15 mins of going back and forth on what to choose from their 15 sides, I finally decided on the spicy chicken thigh bowl with the daily broccoli and cauliflower salad sides along with the harissa and tahini sauces on the side. Love, love, love it! It was so tasty but it also literally felt good while eating and after. Like I was fueling my body with pure goodness. I wish we had a Nan's near where we live. I randomly decided to come out to Acton today to visit the arboretum, and I came to Nan's for lunch. It's cool that it's a lunch spot, wine shop, and local spice/other things shop all at once. I had a green bowl with spicy kale, herbed chicken, sweet potatoes, and carrots. It was delicious and felt like such a healthy meal! I had a side of an herbed sauce whose name I don't recall, but that sauce was the bomb. They also have cool flavors of teas and "shakers," which are made with homemade sweetener. I had a pineapple vanilla chamomile (have you ever even heard of that combo??) shaker and it was so nice for this warm day. What a nice place! read more

This spot quickly jumped up to our favorite restaurant of our New England trip. The food is fresh and delicious. Really made my belly happy and my body feel energized! They were quick and efficient. My only complaint would be the parking, not so great. It was the cutest little spot for lunch that I wish we had in New Jersey! Yummy drinks like "liquid sunshine" lemonade and delicious side dishes like roasted carrots. I learned about Nan's from Too Good To Go, which is a wonderful app to help prevent food waste. Although they have ample parking, the place gets busy so sometimes you may have to wait for a parking spot to open up. Their Nansville Hot Chicken sammie was delicious. It had the perfect amount of heat. My wife ordered the Barn Burner chicken sammie. It also tasted great, but the heat was too overpowering for me. Tried to place an order online to try nan's for the first time, and it just would not work. took forever to load, when it finally did, it asked to select a location ( sure, makes sense) but the location tracker couldnt find the location. sure, fine, ill just call. Call the store, hey, i was hoping to place an order for pickup. yea, you can do that online or at the counter. ok, that system isnt working, do i have to come in and wait? yup. thanks for calling nans. I undertstand the employees have no control over the online systems, but when they fail a new customer, they should at least try and pick up the slack. Can I just go in and order, sure. Does that completely defeat the point of trying to order ahead, yes. Does that waste a bunch of extra time, also yes. Did this employee even try to help, nope. Is anyone at nan's going to even notice they lost a customer, doubtful. It's too bad, I have heard nothing but great things about their food, but when a customer cant place an order without being inconvenienced, and staff can't be bothered to help, the food really becomes secondary. read more

My time in prison, a sentence I was rightfully given after taking candy from a baby (not as easy as it sounds) allowed me to reflect on this. But it wasn't until today, on my way home from work, that I passed the Nans storefront. A tsunami of memories filled my mind and I found myself turning the wheel and pulling into the parking lot. My hands shaking, I approached the restaurant and opened the door. Amazing food smells filled my nose. "I could live here" I thought to myself. And that's when I saw her. Nan. She was making chicken sandwiches, possibly the most delicious chicken sandwich this side of the mason dixon. "Nan!" I shouted through the tears filling my eyes. I felt like my entire life culminated to this one moment. The moment my dad somehow knew would happen all those years ago. The sins that landed me in jail were washed away not by luck but by the delicious aromas from Nans kitchen. She met my gaze and for a moment I thought time and space seized to exist. "No, not Nan". Would've been wild if it were my actual Nan tho right? Absolutely bonkers. The timeline in this story doesn't make too much sense but that's the creative risks we take. I had a great experience last year at Nan's - it takes a while to prep the food on the weekends when it gets busy but totally tasty. When I came back this year the service was terrible. The use of high-quality ingredients was immediately apparent, and the ratios were on point, though the slaw was disappointingly scant. The real stars here are the buttery bun and the flavorful sauce. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the thick chicken batter as it tends to crumble a bit. The hot honey sandwich is similar, but with the addition of pickles and a generous slathering of hot honey. This sweet, spicy, tangy combination makes me understand the cult following behind it. However, the honey-soaked bottom does make the sandwich a bit soggy. They offered plenty of seating outdoors but nothing I noticed indoors. Restaurant has a small gift shop and of course the main attraction is the food. We came in for breakfast and the food was pretty good. I had the taste of the Nan's breakfast sandwich and if you're a cheese lover, this is the sandwich for you. The overnight oats tasted great but was a bit on the sweeter side. Cold brew was surprisingly less acidic tasting for not being nitro. Only gave a lower rating due to the fact that even placing our online order and showing up on the time scheduled, they still took about a half hour before we received the order. Such a disappointment. After visiting this location, we'll most likely not come back--especially with that absurd wait time. read more

This place is adorable! The inside is so interesting-with unique specialty foods-refrigerated and shelf stable- and wines. Folks noted the ambiance because of all the wood and the preserved well and stove with carved mantle. I got the best açaí bowl I've had in my life and was happy they marked allergens right on their menu board so I knew it was dairy-free. Coffee and drinks looked amazing but I'm meeting a friend for coffee later so couldn't indulge. If I had, would have opted for the pumpkin latte, with real pumpkin. I'm not a PSL kinda gal, but the description looked intriguing. There is outdoor seating, but it was raining when I visited and I didn't see indoor seating. I was happy enough eating in my car. Went here to what the hype was about. It wasn't very good. Husband got the honey hot chicken sandwich I got the Korean one. Sandwiches weren't hot and the flavors were just bland. I got one side- kale salad- it was gross (smelled like fish and tasted like dirt). The sandwiches range from $11-$15 roughly and doesn't come with anything! Our lunch was $35. Best chicken sandwich I've had in...ever. (Equally good in Stow & Southboro) The basic Sammy and the Pesto chicken were not what I expected but l both had at amazing mix of flavors. But their sides are all crazy good - mostly mixes of seasoned VEGIES! They made me like my veggies, and that's not easy. Sweet potatoes were delish - potato Au Gratin was amazing. Really good soups (a squash soup had great flavors). Full range of espresso drinks, too (I've never tried their breakfast). Someone said "spicy" - I don't like hot food (no buffalo chicken Sammy do me!) but they do use spicy as part of a flavor mix, balanced with other tastes in everything. I'm ok with that. I'd love to see more dessert choices - surprised there's no pie with orchards all around Stow - but those orchards and Erickson's ice cream is a short drive away. read more

You order at the counter where it is small. I got the classic chicken sand-which. The sandwich was really good however it was dry and very hot. Imagine Boston Market if it were quaint, hip, artisanal, and had a serene outdoor patio with umbrella covered picnic tables. Oh, and infinitely better food. Fried chicken, available in a few different flavors, is the star here, both as a fried chicken sandwich (order anytime) and as 5-piece and 10-piece dinners (need to pre-order 2 hours in advance). That star power is well earned: it's crunchy outside and moist to juicy inside, with the juices at explosively gushing levels if you make sure to arrive before the food is ready (and they sometimes put bags out 10 minutes earlier than requested, so better you wait than have the food wait). There's plenty of spice in the "Nansville Hot"; the more subdued but hardly plain classic version has hints of sweetness and eastern spices. But the unsung hero, and the true showcase for their genius, is the sides. Available in various sizes, they scream with diverse flavor. The chefs at Nan's embrace the concept of contrast (both flavor and texture), and they understand the value of herbs, of oils, of seeds, of peppers, of spices beyond heat, and of spices beyond the usual suspects. The flavors are so enjoyably intense, it's as if you landed in Oz and your whole world changed from black & white to color. The online menu does a nice job of explaining the flavors and ingredients in each dish, so I'll let the pictures do the talking. But I'll recommend some favorites: fennel/apple salad (amazing, but currently on hiatus), string beans (boatloads of spicy flavor), sweet potatoes (not sure what they're doing, but whatever it is works so well). Nan's. Oh Nan's. First... the space is AMAZING. It's this beautiful restored farm house. Just being in the space is a blessing. There's a section for wine and beer and a section with gift items and then, of main show, the foooood. The food... oh the food. First off, the fried chicken is a level of excellent I have not enjoyed in Massachusetts for fried chicken. It's flavorful, a hint of sweetness, and has a wonderful satisfying crunch. I have also tried and enjoyed: -kale salad -green beans -biscuits (omg these biscuits) -herb gravy -a cobb salad -mashed potatoes -coleslaw -various cold breakfast items -mudslide dessert The ONLY negative comment I have, is that, for me, the mashed potatoes are too whipped. I prefer lightly mashed mash with chunks of potato. But the FLAVOR of these was still amazing and I wound up mixing them with gravy and using them as a dip for my biscuit, which is the go-to move you should try. All in, I fully recommend giving Nan's a try. You can preorder online and pickup at your scheduled time or you can go in and wander around the wonderful space for a while before you order. I got the bowl made with the quinoa base, cucumbers, kale salad, and carrots as my 3 topper choices. I loved the kale, quinoa, and carrots. But the cucumbers, although tasty, just didn't wow me. My daughter got the pesto chicken sandwich and devoured it quickly. However, didn't care for the artichoke in it. Of course I failed to snap a pic before we dug in and finished, but it was all very tasty and we wished we had somewhere like this to go back at home. First visit. I recently heard about this place so we took a drive to check this place out. So much to like. The chow is awesome. The atmosphere is homey and the dishes in the case are presented in the bowls they are cooked in, that your mother used... this is "real" stuff. It reminds me of the great dishes my mom and my grandmother made... simple, perfectly cooked and seasoned. There are also dishes I wish my mother could make... again, awesome. So, it's a treat just picking sides, salads, etc. that will accompany the star of the show here, the Fried Chicken. You do have to know the Fried Chicken "rules"... perhaps a bit inconvenient and surprising, but once you understand the way it works... need to order online, and at least 2 hours in advance... you can deal with it... and it's worth it. The chicken is really great. When you enter the charming renovated farmhouse, you see a number of bags waiting for pickup... there is no dining on the premises... all take-out. While you wait for your order to be prepared (my order was ready about 5 minutes early) you can browse the myriad of packaged food items, drinks, wines... all thoughtfully selected and very impressive. Plan to arrive earlier than your scheduled pickup time to temp yourself... really well done. As stated, the Fried Chicken is fantastic. The sides too. We tried the Mashed Potatoes (loved), Brussel Sprouts (loved), Farro (good), Cauliflower Tabouleh (loved), Spicy Kale (good), Roasted Sweet Potatoes (loved). Friendly, super efficient service! I had the Nashville Hot Chicken Sammie and it was absolutely delicious! It was super savory and the perfect amount of spice. The chicken inside the sandwich was a very large piece so it was totally worth the money. The pickles on it were fresh, light and added a great crunch. My only negative is that it was super oily, as you can see in the photo. My boyfriend got the Korean BBQ Sammie and it was equally as delicious. The sauce on it was very good and he said the slaw on it was an awesome addition. The place itself was super cute and had a great assortment of treats to purchase. I'm glad the activity that we were doing pointed us to this spot as I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it if I had just seen it on the side of the road.
