Westward Orchards used to be a quaint summer stop that became a traditional place to visit once a year. It used to be a humble, neighborly and affordable place with kind service. The brands have changed. The orchards are overgrown and covered in poison ivy with no landscaping to protect patrons, not even warnings. They no longer prepare ordered sandwiches fresh or pastries and soups. Instead just throw together a couple premade soggy sandwiches. Who makes a turkey and ham with a piece of lettuce sandwich and charges $8? I don't know if management changed, but the delightful and welcoming service is now void. I felt as if I was a bother and got the drift I wasn't at all welcomed with underlying tones of "ok get what you see and get out." I miss the kind ladies from 15-20 years ago who treated you like old friends. I had driven about 20 miles, excited to visit this old orchard I adored for years as a summer day escape to refresh. I left feeling heavily disappointed, turned away and realizing the age of kind service, pleasant and genuine "how do you do's" are a thing of the past. The sadness leaving was palpable. I really used to love this place. I could tell the staff just wanted to do the least and clock out. It left a very poor taste in my mouth. Dare I say a broken heart. The soul is gone. I ask that I don't receive a response from ownership because it will just hurt more. read more

They have a great font porch with live bluegrass music on Sunday afternoons. The coffee is always good and the cider donuts are always fresh. And the she sore products are always interesting. You can't help but be attracted to this place if you drive by. read more

Amazing. Their Apple cider donuts are a 10/10. I plan on coming back here every time I'm in New England during the fall. They were warm, soft, and so cinnamony! Didn't have the chance to try any of their fresh produce, or look into much else as we were picking up the donuts for relatives, but will definitely be back soon. read more

This is a really nice little pick your own. It is not what I would say is a typical 'pick your own orchard', it is a bit smaller and they have the store and sandwich shop up front. That being said, the blueberries that we just picked were some of the best we have had outside of VT or ME. The price was in line with the rest other orchards and the lady on the inside was very friendly. So if you are looking for a place that is quick and easy with great fruit, this is the place. And seriously, we had the blueberries on the right, close to the front. They were of the smaller variety but very sweet. read more

Came here apple picking a few weekends ago and had a great time! We paid $20 for a peck bag and I liked that they had many different types of apples to pick. Felt very safe with the current protocols for COVID. They also have a farm store (inside is currently closed), but there is a selection on the porch and you can also place online orders to pick up. They also have pumpkins. And they also sell apple cider and apple cider donuts, totally worth a short wait because they'll bring them out fresh and hot. Super delicious! read more

My family comes here every year to pick apples and every year we walk away carrying a bounty. Four stars -not five- because this year the large bag was $25 for PYO and the selection was not very good. Usually the trees are popping with apples but this year they haven't been pruning them well (apple branches should be primed so they grow out-away from the trunk) but westward neglected the trees we were picking from and all the new growth was growing straight up so there were fewer apples and they were hard to get. All this said it's a wonderful place - a GREAT fall family outing and the country store is adorable. Highly recommend! read more

I'm giving them four stars because they are really nice people, work hard, and I believe strongly in supporting local farms and business. The atmosphere is beautiful and peaceful, as is most of Harvard. They have a very nice and spacious front porch where you can drink a coffee and eat a breakfast sandwich. It's beyond lovely and hard to put down in words. As I mentioned the staff is SUPER pleasant and that means a lot. It makes going in here something to look forward to since I live about 3 miles away. There are some drawbacks however and I hope they read this review..... As previously mentioned the place is filled with a TON of Chinese made touristy crapola which is absurdly priced. That seems to be a growing theme amongst farm stands in this area and I hate it. It cheapens the entire experience but I suppose that's what these places have to do to survive. Their bakery sweets near the coffee also foolishly overpriced. I think a cookie was like 4 bucks or something. The cider donuts, as another reviewer mentioned aren't very good in my opinion and again, are stupid expensive. I like this place, have been coming for years, and will continue to do so. But I wish they'd price things more reasonably. read more

Picking your own apples is what makes autumn what it is. It's a load of fun to be able to do that & I enjoy being in MA because there are so many places to choose from. Although it's never cheap to do, I still go apple picking every year, because I can. There are a variety of apples to choose from depending on the time of year you go of course. Make sure you are prepared to get poked by branches when trying to pick some of the apples. Maybe bring your tall friends that can help you reach the taller spots. Interesting to see which apples are ready to pick vs. those that aren't, as it basically has to do w/ the sun vs. shade. Well this place of course has a store attached to it w/ all kinds of adorable items plus variety of fresh fruit & veggies. They have lunch sandwiches they make to order as well as different pies & other baked goods. On the porch was a group of musicians playing their different instruments, singing & it was like nothing I've seen at a farm before, pretty neat stuff. So entertaining & worth chilling out on the porch w/ them. They also have tractor rides that will take you to the pumpkin patch. Well let's just say, holy hell what a pumpkin patch! I have never seen such perfect pumpkins in my life. Seriously, they were all amazingly beautiful. I was shocked at how pretty they all were, big, small & in between, they were all so picture perfect. read more

A coworker and I went here for lunch the other day. They have a "lunch to go" counter where you can get sandwiches, soups and salads. I found the price to be expensive - I got a BLT, cup of pasta salad and bubbly water, and it came out to $7.50 - and the serving sizes were small. I also found that it took them a while to finish our order, and by the time my colleague and I got outside there were no free tables. So to make a long story short, I'm not all that impressed with the lunch counter. However, I plan to check them out sometime in the next month to go apple picking. FYI, I picked up a card while was there, and this is their remaining 2006 calendar: Pick your own apples, Labor Day through Columbus Day, 9 am-4pm daily. Bags sold in store. Wagon rides, weekends in September through October, 11 am-4pm Pick your own pumpkin patch opens in late September Scarecrow making day, October 14 1-3 pm, rain or shine. Great spot for lunch! Sit in the porch while enjoying the best chicken salad ever. Family run business with friendly staff and great service. The store has beautiful pottery, candles, and other gifts. Weekends can get crowded but there's hat rides and live music, fun way to spend a fall day! read more

I just bought a flat of "utility" strawberries -- out of 11 cups (or so) of strawberries, only about 5 berries needed to be composted -- The rest were gorgeous and I just made some of the best, most intensely flavored strawberry jam ever. I've also purchased other utility fruit here -- it's always just shy of perfect and great for canning, pies, even straight up eating. read more

I'm not sure how this place got more than two stars. I have been here at least a dozen times with a friend who lives locally and thinks it's the cat's meow. I'm under impressed. It initially looked kitschy from the outside, but I have honestly tried to be fair in my assessment, and so have gone back numerous times against my better judgement, in case they were having an off day. First of all, their "gifts" and merchandise are all way overpriced. Most of the stuff is cheap quality crap made in China and probably purchased wholesale for 1/10th of the marked prices. If you are a tourist or a senior citizen you might like their haphazard, something-for-everyone selection, just be aware you are being ripped off royally. The fresh vegetables were decent quality, but again overpriced, and I can get superior tasting fruits, pies, and veggies at any farmer's market in the summertime. Their much touted cider donuts are extremely disappointing; I've tried them again and again, each time hoping for a better result, to no avail. The price for a half dozen was higher than anywhere else - and the donuts had little discernible flavor except for the cinnamon sugar coating on the outside. They are also on the small side, with a weird, spongy yet dry texture. The most recent cider donuts I purchased were today, at their seasonal grand opening, so they were freshly made. My family and I have been lovers of cider donuts for years. I have tasted and eaten cider donuts from all over New England, and these would not even be in my top ten. Go elsewhere if you really want the BEST tasting cider donuts; you certainly won't find them here. read more

I drive out of my way in many instances to get a sandwich from them. Great quality deli meats, home made bread, overall top quality ingredients. I'm a third generation customer who has been enjoying Westward Orchards for 31 years (I am currently 31, so I have been going there as long as humanly possible). I love this place. There is nothing like that big barn farm stand to greet you as you climb the hill on Route 111 coming up into Harvard. They always have something great out front that catches your eye; plants in the spring, pumpkins in the fall, Christmas trees. But inside, things get even better. They sell lots of great stuff, ranging from baked goodies, frozen chicken pies (love these!) to of course, seasonal fresh fruit and corn, straight from their farm. They also have a great lunch counter, where you can get a fantastic lunch AND you can find CIDER DONUTS. These things are little rings of heaven and are amazing. Get some as soon as you can (I never miss these!). I also highly recommend the caramel apples. Don't forget to visit their gift shop. I love gift shops and this one is the best one around! The best part though, is that the service is friendly. There are not many places anymore where you can go and find such nice people. One more thing, they say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, suppose you throw in some peaches, pears, plums, blue berries....you might end up living forever! read more
