Have not been to Bombs Away in Corvallis in years! Still pretty much the same though. A college town eatery, filled with students and filled with noise, but fairly good food and very reasonable beverages. The happy hour offerings are even more reasonable! The place competes very well on a street adjoining the Oregon State campus, with dozens of similar places. Worth a try. read more

My boyfriend and I have come up from Eugene for shows here twice. It is a great setting for an intimate performance. (We saw Michael Manring both times.) The most recent time we were here they had good mojitos and a good dark beer on tap which is a requirement for my boyfriend. The food was fine, seems to be pretty much natural and healthy. We had the Jalapeno poppers later and they were much better than the fake seeming ones that you get at other places. The bread pudding is also a winner, I had that both times we went. I'm a local and this is one of my favorites. For those who think it's too spendy, go at lunch time. They now have a $5 menu that includes the entree and a beverage, such as coffee, iced tea, soda, etc. The $5 menu changes monthly and has at least a dozen items on it often including their mini-nachos (nothing mini about them), a wet vegie burrito, maybe a pork burrito, or tacos or their awesome vegie tamales. Often the smaller entrees come with rice or beans on the side. Really I think this is the best deal for lunch on Monroe. I always feel satisfied when I eat here. The regular menu is mostly tex-mex meets Oregon with some other savory cuisines thrown in. I really like it because the owner is dedicated to using local humanely raised animals, safe-caught fish and to offering a decent number of vegetarian options. He makes a killer hot sauce you'll find on every table (well, most of the time). The venue is kind of shabby. I think the late night college party crowd is hard on the place. Oh well. They do have some 10 PM happy hour deals. And they have a decent tequila selection. They frequently have live music of various styles, mostly energetic. read more

Really bad service tonight. My friends and I sat there waiting...and waiting...and waiting, until one of us got up to ask if we could order. Finally, a waitress came over, did not say anything, just stood their and stared- we ordered waters ( because by this point, we waited to go somewhere better) which she just put on our tables and walked off again to chat with a guy at another table. Horrible and rude! Maybe Bombs Away is good- just don't go there from 7-8pm on a Thursday night to have to deal with this awful waitress with a bad attitude. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Corvallis! I love the servers/staff, the food is awesome (and local!) and the drink specials are great. Their food menu is extensive and everything I've had there has been amazing; it makes it hard to decide what to order every time I go. The food wasn't bad. Nice portions of Tex Mex, with no skimping on meat BUT the service was atrocious. It just took forever for everything from just getting a menu to 2 hours later getting our food order. If you have plenty of time I'd go back for the food and atmosphere, but if you have things to do it probably won't work. Bummer read more

As with a majority of restaurants, faces change as new staff come and go. Consistently great service lately. The previous review was likely an aberrance. Bombs is firmly established as one of the premier hangouts in Corvallis with tasty, delicious food options. Their blackened, spicy cheeseburger is mouthwatering. Bombs away creates a unique vibe with the addition of great service. Tequila served is a tad overpriced, but well worth the exclusivity of the club along with the variety of choices. The food is amazing without the fake sophistication of expensive eateries. read more

Pint night is always packed. I get carded twice almost every time. Once at the door or in line then at the bar. Their co2 wasn't working properly once so they had well drinks for 350 which was nice. Long islands here are not as tasty as others I've had. read more

I recently had the privilege to play here, opening for my friend D.B. Rouse and had a great time. The location was great literally across the street from the college. Bombs Away Cafe is one of my favorite places to go in Corvallis. They have the best margaritas, and a long island that kick your butt in the morning. I like this place for going out with my friends, because the atmosphere is better than any other bars on Monroe. They have fun live music. The food is amazing, and there is a ton of vegetarian options. If you are planning on just drinking at bombs, make sure to order chips and salsa because they are that good. read more

I got the one seafood taco ( vs. 2 tacos). It is topped with a creamy cucumber sauce. Rice and black beans are served on the side. My only complaint is that it was not hot enough temperature wise. It had the right amount of spice. read more

Five longtime fans of Bombs Away went home disappointed on a recent weeknight. Three of us ordered burritos, and all were cold, which was strange because the wait was long. Two quesadillas were slightly warmer but didn't have the Christmas sauce ordered. The server brought us some "green" sauce, but it was oddly cloudy and very runny. Rather than the delicious, hearty meals we've come to expect, we went away thinking a Corvallis institution has gone way downhill. And that makes us sad. read more

This is ideal Tex-Mex. Don't come here expecting authentic Mexican food, because you'll be sorely disappointed. Very New Mexico style menu. They have daily drink specials - Monday $6 margs, Tuesday $2.50 micros, Wednesday $2.50 wells, Thursday is long islands and Friday is...well, Friday). Bartenders pour very heavy, so you'll get plenty drunk off margs or long islands, and there's always 10-15 microbrews on tap. Gets VERY crowded on Mondays and Tuesdays though, we used to come every Tuesday but had to cut back because you end up spending the entire time waiting in line at the bar. If you're going, go EARLY (8 at the latest) and lock down a table for the night. Otherwise you end up awkwardly standing around. Limited seating area and a very hipster crowd. read more

I have a bit of a bias for this place because I went there a ton in my 20's. I've played shows on their awesome stage, drank beer after beer after beer and have eaten more than my fair share of a cows weight in burgers. Love the shows, love the burgers, love the atmosphere. Nice job!!!!! read more

Unfortunately I was not impressed. I really wanted to like this place. I like Tex mex and what I saw on their menu. The place is small so table space fills up quick but we got lucky. Our server didn't take our order on paper. Then didn't bring out our appetizer nachos. After reminding her it took so long to get them we barely wanted them. We had a burrito that was marginal, oily taco meat, burgers over cooked and brisket under cooked. Bummer. Probably won't be back. read more

Some of the menu offerings at Bomb's Away are tasty, but others not so much... I love the britty salad, but the mashed potato chimichanga is something I ordered twice (complete memory lapse) and hated twice. It struck me as bland. The atmosphere is okay for crowding in with some friends for pints, but more my speed these days is a conversational lunch, for which I find the seating a bit uncomfortable. Come to think of it: when I have crowded in for pints, the beer just made it easier to ignore the cramped and awkward seating. Maybe I am just OLD. read more

This review is mainly for the bar and music venue. I haven't eaten dinner here in many years, but the happy hour faire is good. We've seen many many bands here and almost always have a great time. They do a wonderful job of getting talented bands in. It can get loud and crowded, but makes for an intimate good time with great tunes! This is seriously some of the worst food I've ever had. The chips were stale and my flautas were soft and rubbery. My entire dish was clearly microwaved. I was pretty drunk and you know food is bad when you don't want to eat it when you're wasted. If you want real Mexican food just go to La Rockita. Nice location for people on campus but it can be hard to get a table. Prices are great but the food isn't consistently good. I've had amazing meals here and others have been cold and poorly prepared. I was really disappointed by Bombs Away. The menu sounded great, and it's certainly a hot spot around campus, but the food is just not very good. If you want "rice and beans" expect burnt rice and LITERALLY PLAIN, flavorless, unseasoned, unembellished black beans. I couldn't believe the beans didn't even have salt and pepper on them. It was like they were steamed out of a can and put on a plate?? The "corn salsa" is just corn and onions. It is very bland, and to be honest I felt a little cheated that there wasn't more to the salsa. The food obviously cuts a lot of corners in quality and flavor and composition. They don't use any sort of authentic white cheese on the Mexican food, but rather choose to use some "bagged shredded cheddar" stuff-- a frequent problem I find in Corvallis. The red enchilada sauce was just plain not good, making the dish inedible. If you care more about price and speed over flavor and quality, this place might be for you-- but if you want a cheap, good quality taqueria-style eatery, seek elsewhere. read more
