The reason we were in Albany was for our daughter's college graduation from Oregon State University, GO BEAVS! Anyways, we had called a few restaurants in the area hoping to get some dinner. This was the only place that said,"Yeah, we can seat you!" So, hubs and I make our way from our roadside motel (Studio 6, review will be posted) to downtown Albany. The parking situation was a little confusing, but we found parking a few blocks from the restaurant. We got a table, yay! The place is pretty cool, it was a bank back in the day. They have a nice limited menu which offers options for all sorts of food preferences. So, our table was full of carnivores, lol. Hubs had the special which was a smoked prime rib, daughter's boyfriend had the Wagyu Brisket burger and my college grad had the filet. I also had the filet. Everything was super tasty! Cute little restaurant in Albany. Greeted right away, nice seating, very soft comfortable chairs, welcoming environment. I ordered a berry salad the portion was on the very small side. It was still tasty and fresh. For my entree I ordered the stuffed Salmon, I highly recommend, it came out hot and fresh. I wish I took pictures, I was too eager to dive in. The ambiance of this downtown, upscale restaurant is first rate; a renovated bank building beautifully updated. The staff was great - friendly & attentive. Unfortunately, the food didn't match our expectations. Our party of four ordered the Brussel sprouts appetizer, which was flavorful. My husband & I ordered a half house salad (each), the halibut dinner & the zucca pasta dish with prawns. The pasta dish was cooked well but had no flavor whatsoever, I was surprised by the lack of any type of seasoning. The halibut was good but a bit cool, not worth the $38 it cost. The most flavorful thing I had was the raspberry vinaigrette I had with my salad. One member of our party was keen to try their creme brûlée, so we ordered three - only two were available. We don't think the $100 tab was worth it for my husband & I. I hope they're able to make improvements to their food. read more

But the seats by the door can be cold when people keep getting in and out as there's only 1 door Pom Pom fizz: I like the flavor with a nice fizz Italian cream soda: not much flavor but a huge cup. It's just non flavored cream with fizz water Truffle fries: some of the best textured fries I've had. Really crispy on the outside. Could be perfect if the truffle flavor is a bit stronger Creole Prawn: the bread is really crispy. The shrimp and sauce isn't very Cajun for my taste. More of a northwest interpretation. Pretty mild Pork porterhouse: huge chunk of pork. The outside is a bit dry. Inside is pretty tender. However, it's lacking flavor. The tomato sauce isn't adding much flavor either. Top sirloin: it's ok. Wanted to order the burger but it's sold out. Just a normal steak. Nothing special Cream brûlée: love this one. Huge size for just 7$. Silky smooth custard with fresh fruit. The only downside is the sugar on top is a bit burned Service is good. Waitress is very nice. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting Albany for the first time and decided to stop by Vault 244 for cocktails and dinner. Unfortunately, it ended up being the worst part of our evening. We were seated outside (which we were completely fine with), waited about 10 minutes for menus, another 10 minutes to order, and then... nothing. We ordered two cocktails, a burger, and the mac & cheese. While we sat with nothing but water, we watched multiple tables that were seated after us receive their drinks first. After quite a while, our server came over to refill our waters and apologized that our drinks were taking so long. At that point, another table that had arrived after us had already received their drinks, so we decided we'd waited long enough. After about an hour total, we asked to cancel our order and leave. We were told our drinks could be "expedited" and that our ticket may have been lost, but as we were walking out our food was suddenly ready. Since our food and drinks were ordered at the same time, that explanation didn't really add up to us. We understood it was a busy night, but at some point we needed to leave to find better service. Maybe this was just an off night, but as first-time visitors to Albany, it definitely wasn't a great first impression. A simple update or acknowledgment much earlier would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, we won't be back. read more

Enjoyed a lovely dinner at the bar with my traveling companion after a long work day on a Wednesday in October. The sea bass tacos that my friend ordered were amazing (I stole one as one does, d'uh). The soft tortilla did not maintain its structural integrity - perhaps doubling up on those or using a tortilla that could use handling is my only feedback on it. I enjoyed my ahi tuna small plate. I couldn't quite figure out if they cook it and chill it and just keep it chilled until someone orders it or if it was cooked to order and then chilled right away. Either way, it is good. It really is a small plate though. A couple of bites, not really a shareable appetizer. My friend and I split a beet salad and added the steak protein to it and we loved it. Can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu. read more

My granddaughter, who was graduating from OSU, booked our reservations for the evening of the college departments' graduation ceremonies. My wife and I had never been here before. There were seven of us in total. (Please note there is a "Large Party charge of 18% of the bill total for 6 or more people.) We sat outside at a table under a tree on a lovely evening. Enjoyed our drinks and each other as we were all from different states. The staff hurried around as did the manager, Melinda, as she assisted everywhere. We ordered dinners, appetizers, and more drinks. The staff repeatedly apologized for delays in getting items to us but with it being graduation weekend, us throughly enjoying each other and the outdoors on the cool evening, we really didn't notice. (We did learn that a cook called out and a server didn't show.) Melinda continued doing everything she could to keep things running smoothly. She exhibited professionalism, calmness, thoughfulness, positivity, and was an example for her employees. Great job, Melinda. Everyone loved their meals whether steaks, salads, or something else. As the evening was coming to a close at the restaurant, the server brought out the check and my daughter reached for it. I told him I would take it. She snagged the check; I gave him my credit card. Credit card wins! A memory was created this night as we were together. I knew it would be a bit expensive, but sometimes it's worth it, especially if your Dad and Grandpa. read more

We love Vault 244! We were lucky to come during happy hour, so their already reasonably priced drinks were even cheaper. I started off with the Crater Lake Smokey, while my partner got the Chai Tea Martini (special of the week). The Crater Lake Smokey was super smooth, with a nice hint of smoke that paired nicely with the goat cheese stuffed olives. The Chai Tea Martini was super tasty with a strong hit of chai, and had a nice sweet finish. For our second round, I got the Sazerac while my partner got the Oregon Manhattan. The Sazerac had a nice hint of anise/liquorice from the peychaud's bitters that provided a nice balance to the spiced rye whisky. The Oregon Manhattan is one of our favorite drinks on the menu, and has a nice balance of complex flavors with the chai tea surprisingly pairing nicely with the bourbon, vermouth, and bitters. Highly recommend Vault 244 if you're looking for fantastic and reasonably priced cocktails. We'd love to try the food next time! read more

Creative, upscale dinner restaurant. I was hoping it had music, since I read somewhere online it being described as a "lounge". Nope. Service at the front was pleasant. We had arrived too early for our dinner and the sweet hostess apologized as there was no room at 5pm. We had flown in from a different time zone and I had made reservations for 7:30pm. We wandered around town for an hour and when we returned a new server/host rearranged her station to accomodate us at 6-something. Awesome, because we were both hungry and tired. I've not eaten in Albany a lot, so I was not familiar with anything there, but this suggestion was made and i am glad! they had a special cocktail, pomegranate basil. it was delish! i wish i would have known about the pistachio martini found out about as we were leaving as i might have had that instead. but i suppose there is always next time. we started with the calamari which was cooked to perfection! he ordered a steak and i opted for the seared ahi tuna and a salad. every bit of it was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! i like the fact the it is not a loud place - and the fire place adds great atmosphere! Vault 244 is such a frustrating restaurant. It has one of the best atmospheres in Albany. It's classy. It has a great bar to sit at. I love watching bartenders work. The staff is friendly. But there is a bit of inconsistency with the food. Specifically with the fried calamari. I don't fry food at home so this is always a treat for me when I go out. The last 3 times I have ordered the dish it has come out 3 ways. First it was overdone. Twice. It shouldn't be brown. It should be golden. When we went back I told the bartender I really wanted to order the calamari, but they had overdone it the previous 2 times. She told me they had a new chef so I decided to give him a chance. It was better, but still not great. Then, because I just can't quit it, I ordered it one more time and it was awful. I'm kicking myself for not sending it back because it was that bad. It was as if the oil was not hot enough and it just absorbed all this grease and had almost no crunch. My bad. I have only eaten off of the appetizers menu because I like doing drinks and small plates so I can't comment on the entrees. You can't really screw up a Wedge Salad. The Brussel Sprouts are a safe option as well. And the Castelvetrano olives and warm hazelnuts with baguette is an interesting dish. But this is a pretty low bar in terms of cookery. I love going to the Vault. I just wish I could get more excited about the food. read more

Made a reservation for 6 for a family birthday. Got to the restaurant and we found out that minors are only allowed in a specific section of the restaurant. There was no information on the website or Yelp defining their restrictions. The staff seems annoyed when we were upset and continued to ignore us wile we were waiting for them to attend to us. Really unprofessional and highly inconsiderate of the staff. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Dinner at Vault bar last Saturday. Excellent service from bartender. We split the beet salad and the sea bass entree. Both delicious. Dressing for salad had the just right slightest sweetness. Sea bass moist, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Good flavors. Will be back soon! read more

Came here for some drinks and had a lovely evening. I started with the Coconut Lemongrass Mojito but it looked and tasted exactly like a regular mojito but our server Tanya assured us the sake was only a hint but unfortunately it missed the flavor mark completely. We also had a pixie stick drink with some strawberry and lavender martinis that were much better. Should be NO STARS We have been to the Vault just a few times and anyways had nice service and nice food......NOT TONIGHT. It was my wife's birthday and we thought we would have a nice dinner alone. First off, the server wanted to be ANYPLACE else other than working and she had the personality of a door knob. We ordered cocktails and a couple appetizers....the drinks were good and one of the appetizers were what we ordered and one we have no idea what it was.....figured we just deal with and not say anything. Dinner came and we ordered a couple more of the same cocktails we ordered before. They came after a 10 minute wait to get them while our dinner was getting cold....My wife tasted her drink and it was tequila and NOT vodka what she had ordered both times. Flagged down the server and explained to her that her drink was wrong.....without saying a word, she took it away and bought it right back within 30 seconds and told my wife that is WAS vodka, she said she saw the bottle sitting right there by the bartender....plus before she brought it back, they pour vodka on the top and said this was good enough. So NOW she has a vodka and tequila....she tased it and spit it out. I told the server she was not drinking it and to get her another one....please. Again- without saying sorry or a word, she grabbed the drink took it back and had another made for her....when she brought it my wife, she even said .."oh this isn't clouding looking like the last one" ....YES, because it was wrong and this one is RIGHT. Still without any personality what so ever, she groaned and walked off....THAN we get the bill and we get charged for 5 drinks....my two and my wife's two PLUS the one they got wrong and took back...STILL HAD TO PAY FOR IT....Needless to say, we will never be back to the Vault......and if you go...check what you are getting charged for. read more

We want to give it a 4 star for the food and reasonable price. The service was also very good. Even we waited for a while for the food to come, it was worth it. The burger tasted good and juicy, the fish tasted fresh and nicely cooked. More importantly, they let us go inside and sit at the bar so we can have a nice dinner even we didn't make reservations, that's what a good restaurant do!! read more
