This is the most unprofessional medical practice I've ever experienced. Stay away from. Dr…read more Burkhard at all costs. He illustrates a lack of care and compassion for his patients, is regularly a poor listener, and recommends facilities with bad reputations (like Holly Hill). Plus he seems to put money first and patients last. I recently had a ER visit for chest pains and breathing problems the day before a scheduled appointment with Dr. Burkhard. At my appointment, he refused to see me to discuss my condition or modifying my medications after the staff was unable to retrieve my medical insurance in their system (which they were able to do half an hour later over the phone in less than 2 minutes). When I said I'd wait to have a quick word with him, he had his rude staff member (with a New England accent) relay that there was nothing to talk about and I'd have to reschedule. I've never felt more disrespected and neglected as a repeat patient. FYI, I ended up having to go back to the ER four days later for the same emergency.. In addition, I had several vile experiences with the aforementioned staff member and filed several complaints on her to no avail. She is rude, unprofessional, and has a major chip on her shoulder. None of my complaints were addressed, and none of my patient needs were valued here. If I could give them zero stars I would.. Stay away from this fraudulent circus show and find a family practice that actually values your time and needs as much as theirs.

If I could give zero I would…read more My husband went here for the first time a few weeks ago and was not impressed with Dr. Burkhart (he was not pleasant and he advised a bone that had been broken and verified last year by a surgeon was no longer broken), but he was just offered a new position and needed a physical so he called the office and set it up as he felt it would be the quickest option. He goes in to the FAMILY practice to have his work physical with our 4 year old son because it was 6:45 am and he there was no one to watch him. The doctor, upon learning our son was present, advised the nurse that he is refusing to do the physical as our son's presence during it makes him uncomfortable. He didn't even tell my husband himself- he had the nurse do it nor offer any alternatives. My husband was refused what he needed to have done and he left. We will never again use this practice as a result of this doctor's refusal. This is specifically listed as a family practice which would imply an understanding that sometimes children have and will need to be present in circumstances like a simple work physical. Please, stay away from this practice or at least Dr. Burkhart

I was worried about keeping the appointment because how hostile she seemed over the phone, however when we arrived the 2 ladies I came in contact with where very pleasant and the visit went smoothly. I don't know what happened to the lady who answered the phone but she needs to be trained or at the very least not answer the phones.

This has been the worst experience I've had with UNC ever and I have seen many doctors and nurses through UNC. They do not read anything that is written inside MyChart nor do they respond to pharmacy requests to change a medication which is a medication that I rely on for my life. I do not recommend anyone adding this practice to their health care. There are other UNC practices throughout the triangle that are top notch and are much better than this one. These PAs are attempting MD diagnosing first contact primary care patients and allowed to hand out medication and they don't have nearly the qualifications of doctors . A PA can get a four-year undergraduate degree than a two-year masters in any science and about 2000 clinical hours. A doctor must have undergraduate to get to the MCAT get into medical school, do a residency, internship and I'm thinking 15,000 hours of clinical so why are PA's able to do the same work as doctors?? Do you think you might get many missed or wrong diagnoses? PA O'Connor and Unc handled a situation with me very unprofessionally...caused me great stress as a patient. I asked to see a doctor not a PA fir primary and for a referral to a psychiatrist not a social worker ...several times and was told I couldn't on first case or ignored on second. Instead O'Connor proceeded to do a serious diagnosis while massively offending me and still not listening. I do use an alias on yelp.

The doctors and PAs aren't the problem--they're professional and capable. It's the system they operate within. It's profit-driven, demands unnecessary follow-ups, uses platforms that constantly malfunction, and if you find a doctor you like, don't get attached. They leave. Here's what pushed me over the edge: I submitted a prescription refill request a week ago, a few days before I ran out. I've sent multiple messages and left voicemails. When I finally reached someone today, I got attitude and zero accountability. My provider had been out for over a week with no coverage plan. Nobody was monitoring her messages or prescription requests. No one communicated this. My voicemails went unreturned. When I called to ask what was happening, I was told: "I'm not responsible for anyone else. It's not my problem." That's Avance Care in a nutshell.

He listens and is very attentive to my mental and physical well-being. The office and lab staff are nice and always pleasant greeting patients with smiles. He has encouraged me to live a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy foods and exercising regularly. He has definitely motivated me, and I feel better. I wouldn't want any other physician to treat me. I recommended him to my family and coworkers also. I love the office and its location.
