Was looking for a bite to eat after visiting HMNH and found this food truck was nearby in the Harvard promenade area. Lots of seating and a nice water sprinkler situation to cool off from the heat. My partner has a nut allergy and the people preparing our food were very accommodating to his allergy and made sure to prepare his sandwich away from any nuts. I'm vegan so I was able to order the J.P. Sandwich without any spicy mayo. The tofu was softer than I was expecting but honestly it wasn't too bad given it had a nice flavor (and I love eating plain uncooked tofu). The sandwiches were packed with our select protein which really made it worth the money ($24 for the two). Would definitely recommend! read more

It's a sweltering 97 degree Fahrenheit day in the home of the Red Sox. Wowza! What do I see yonder? A food truck. Did I just say food truck? I mean a food truck without a line. Well it was 4:30 pm. There is more than meets the eye! It is a Banh Mi food truck! (Banh mi=Vietnamese sandwich with veggies on a French baguette.) Hallejujah! There is someone watching out for me. Being that I will be stuck on a train running five hours to the city, I might as well buy something to sustain myself on the way over. There were two friendly ladies ready to hear what we were considering to eat when we got there. One kindly asked my hubby "how could I help you today?" My husband orders the tofu and shiitake mushroom banh mi which was heavenly. It was spicy, but not incredibly so, just enough to burn slightly to have an implicit understanding that a pepper was sacrificed in the making of this delicious meal. I also noticed they had fresh ingredients: cilantro, pickled julienne carrots, and also pickled white carrot. It was just a blend of sweet, tart, and savory. My favorite part was when the lady making my sandwich asked if I was a vegetarian. I said, "no way, I believe in meat and more meat please and that today was an off day being that we just wanted to try a sandwich with tofu for to balance out our smorgasbord earlier." She told me that "it's cool, so now she can put pate in it as a condiment." Her feeling was that pate would make it even better. In attempt to make my sandwich better, I could not say no to that thoughtful and polite request. And, of course, after the first bite, I felt the effects of my non-vegetarian tofu sandwich in glee. I would definitely come back and bring my friends to eat more banh mi. I also ordered an iced cold Vietnamese espresso. I've been to Bon Me twice in the last three days, and it's definitely delicious! The menu is well marked about gluten and other allergies! Super helpful. The workers are very cognizant of ingredients. Super convenient, great rice noodles. I go with the salt and pepper chicken, and whichever sauce the worker at the time recommends. This should really be a 4.5 review. Only lost half a star for price - around 9 or 10 bucks for a quick meal in Harvard Square, but the portions aren't huge. But the convenience and tastiness make up for it! The packaging is very cute, too. Would totally recommend, and I'll be back! read more

I did enjoy my sandwich & greens very much, and I could see myself eating from this food truck several times a week, especially if I tried a variety of their offerings, but was this experience the epitome of food truck cuisine, I don't think so. The greens were ok, nothing to get excited about. My miso pulled pork sandwich could have used some bean sprouts or cucumber, something to give it some crunch, another texture sensation. Maybe some sliced (mild or hot) jalapeños for an added kick. Miso I think is a subtle flavor to use in this type of pork sandwich, since the typical Chinese bbq pork is very flavorful, often sweet and full of texture. I will definitely be trying out some of the previously recommended salads, etc. read more

The soba noodles were sticking with each other, but it's kinda unavoidable for noodles sitting in a box for a while. I suggest order rice instead. Chicken and sauce tasted good. I'm from Queens, but had never had the pleasure of going to the banh mi place in the area, and was lucky enough to end up going here one Monday evening with a friend of mine. I ordered a box with rice and chicken, which was REALLY tasty. We received our orders fairly quickly, which surprised me since the line was somewhat long. I loved the food, but was a bit disappointed at the steep price for what is basically just a very small rice and chicken dish. I would probably go back, but it wouldn't be something that I would seek out because of this. I had the BBQ pork sandwich. The only complaint I have is that the "mayo" like sauce that was on the bread, was soooo spicy!! I wish their menu would have said something about how spicy it was; if it had said that I would have gotten it without. This is my go-to truck whenever I am running short on time and don't want to eat Greenhouse food (which are fried and has so much oil). The food is so fresh and satisfying. I prefer rice noodles, but soba were fine. And the salad was light on dressing - probably better than drowning in it, but it was pretty light... The thing you need to consider with this truck and where I'll focus next time - the bread is amazing and the pork spread so yummy! (I stole a bite from a friend.) The Miso Braised Pulled Pork Sandwich is probably the best sandwich I have ever eaten in my life . . . period. I have now eaten at Bon Me trucks at South Station and Harvard Yard, as well as at their actual restaurant at Kendall Square and the food is consistent at all locations which says a lot about how Bon Me is managed in my humble opinion. The bread is soft and light inside and crusty outside (. . . that light french baguette style crusty . . . not that hard and chewy crust like some other banh mi I've eaten). Just the right amount of cilantro (which is a big deal for me since I love cilantro if its the right amount but it can totally ruin a dish if its too much). The pickled carrots and radish add the perfect texture and flavor to compliment the other ingredients. The portion is large, especially for a measly $6, so I'm always full and satisfied. Limeade, sweetened just right. Vietnamese Iced Coffee, dark strong brew with a little milk, also very well done. The Chinese BBQ Pork is also very good. . . . . but nothing beats that miso braised pulled pork. read more

Yum! Just ate at this truck at the Charles River Food Truck Festival over in Brighton. I tried food from several of the trucks there and this one was my favorite. The BBQ pork sandwich was delicious - the meat was cooked to perfection, the 'veggie slaw' topping gave it a nice crunch, I always appreciate pickles, the choice of bread (a baguette) was spot on and there was a little spicy kick to round it out. This truck knows how to make a good sandwich. I also got the thai basil limeade and found it to be well balanced and refreshing. After the first round at Bon Me, I went back and got an iced coffee. I wasn't a huge fan of the iced coffee - there was some flavor I couldn't put my finger on that wasn't my favorite. I'm generally not a fan of Vietnamese style coffee so I was taking a risk... the limeade and pork sandwich experience was def. the highlight. Generally I'm kind of skeptical of food trucks--so often the truck gimmick is a front for bland food served by people who care more about the aesthetics of the truck than the food itself. So I was pleasantly surprised by Bon Me! I had the Chinese bbq pork sandwich, and is was wonderful--the baguette fresh and crunchy, the pork sweet and juicy, and the pickled carrots and daikon fermented enough that I felt like I was doing something good for my gut flora. They're also HUGE, so I can easily wrap up the rest and have it later on for dinner. Since then, this has become a regular stop for me when I'm walking between classes at the divinity school and Harvard Yard. I've never been to their brick-and-mortar restaurant in Kendall, but I'm sure it's just as good. Stick with the pork if you can--I had the Szechuan peppercorn chicken once when they were out of pork and it was sort of dry and relatively bland for something that was supposed to have Szechuan peppercorns in it! read more

Food truck will never let you down.... only some. lol, Bon me is a great food truck that offers a Vietnamese cusine. They have a selection to choose from such as a sandwich, noodles and rice. Upon arrival there were other truck available, so if you're not quite feeling Vietnamese type of food then go for the others. It was really packed when we got there, but it's because it's right next to Harvard and near alot of tourists. The line itself is pretty fast as they have workers both on register and making the food behind them. I reccomended the carribean chicken jerk as it had that jerk in it if ya know what I mean. Seating is available but gets really packed for the table seating, but there are many rocks and ledges that people can sit out on. Not sure there are restrooms nearby, however, overall the food, service, and atmosphere was a great experience, especially on a nice breezy, sunny day! read more

My go-to spot for lunch or dinner when I'm in a rush, class or lab runs over meal times, or I just feel like treating myself. Rice bowl (boxes) are generous in portion size, and the brown rice bowl (sans cilantro it's soapy to me) with Miso Lime dressing is a fan favorite, although I always come back to the sandwiches-- I cycle through the meats, but I love me some Miso Braised Pulled Pork sandwiches! Protip: if you're a messy eater, or have enough time to sit down as you eat, try asking to have your sandwich in a box. It'll be cut in half, and easy to retrieve those pieces of meat that fall out of your generously filled sandwich. Protip 2: know that their bread is generally pretty soft, but as the day wanes on, the sandwich bread may become more and more crackly-crunchy. read more

Though this food truck has its flaws, this is a great go to lunch food truck if you know what to get! After a lot of experimenting, I pretty much always order the soba noodle salad with whatever their specialty meat is or the chicken if they are out of the specialty meat with the lime or sesame dressing. I like this because it's filling but not too much food for lunch. Unlike other food trucks, Bon Me actually has calorie information (!!) on their website so I know exactly how much I'm eating which is great when I'm counting calories. The soba noodle option is a surprisingly low calorie option while still having a carb, which is probably why this is a go to place to me. Things that I don't generally order and why: 1) The Bahn Mi sandwiches - The taste is actually fine but my problem is that they are always falling apart so it's too messy for me to take back to class. I prefer the easiness (and the much lower calorie) of the bowls. 2) The Rice bowls - I actually like the rice bowls more, but they are higher calorie and I can get the same satisfied feeling with the soba noodles instead. 3) The Salads - While this is probably the healthiest option, I find that this is just not enough food for me. And then I've spent ~$10 and am left still hungry which is not great. 4) The Tofu - I think this is the only protein that I actually dislike. It tastes bland to me. 5) The Drinks - The Thai Iced Tea is watery and doesn't taste great. The Vietnamese coffee tastes weirdly chocolatey and not anything like other Vietnamese coffee that I've had/made. I haven't bothered to try the other drinks after these two. It doesn't help that they're over priced. It's not a cheap lunch option (~$10). But it's close to my school, and I know exactly what I'm getting. So I'll continue to come here if I don't feel like trying something new. read more

Pretty much this whole summer the truck down by the aquarium has been a staple of my saturdays. The food is hot, fresh, and tasty! I tend to stick to their rice bowls, which I find incredibly filling. I also have to say that I love their carrot/radish slaw? I think that's what it is, it's tangy and sweet and probably my favorite part of their bowls! When you grab some with some meat it's like an orchastra for your mouth! I've also tried their Bahn Mi, but I found it to be a bit messy and hard to eat for me. I'm a fan of softer breads, but it truly has the french crusty bread quality you expect in a bauguette. Even when there is a long line the service is spot on and tends to be fast, which is important for me since I have a very short lunch break. Only complaint: I wish they'd stay in the same location all the time! They usually spend saturdays in the same area, but not the same spot and sometimes I don't see them coming in because they're on the other side or too far away from where I work to grab lunch at. read more
