Seven years since my last review of this place, and it's not only survived the pandemic, but still offers one of the best bang-for-the-buck quasi-Mexican food options in the greater Boston area (which is admittedly a Mexican food DESERT, alas---bunch of tourist traps like "On The Border" or Salvadorean food places using "Mexican" in name only). Pandemic price inflation is real, but not that outrageous compared to many other fast-casual places. One huge improvement is full online ordering, which spares you the torture of having to communicate what you want with the Spanish-speaking staff whose English skills are extremely limited. Said staff however are hit-and-miss...sometimes you get great staff who are friendly and warm and helpful usually, but sometimes you do get stone-faced (cultural adaptation to New England norms perhaps? lol) robots who do as little as necessary. They still have the best salsa and horchata I've found in this area. Quesadillas and burritos are great if you tell them to skip the rice. One very nice thing, which is a good indicator of how close to "Mexican" they really are, is the presence of refried beans as a topping for all of the made-to-order-while-you-point-and-wait dishes. The truly fake-Mexican places for some reason only do whole beans...I guess refried is too labor intensive for them? The salsa is very fresh, does NOT taste like it's been mixed with ketchup (cough cough, Tenoch "Mexican") or Tabasco or contains vinegar. I do wish they still had the more exotic meats like barbacoa and lengua which they used to do +10 years ago, but oh well at least they still have pork and beef rather than being all chicken-chicken-chicken like some of the Whole-Foods type places. All in all, I'm grateful Anna's still exists, because I loathe Chipotle, and am often too lazy to drive all the way out to Waltham to the (increasingly packed) Taqueria El Amigo. So while Anna's ain't exactly REAL "Mexican," it's one of the better approximations to be found here. read more

Got a delicious bowl of chicken with toppings that include sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. While my meal was yummy, I don't think $18 justifies it, since it is just a bowl of chicken. I lived in California for 4 years and I still think Anna's has one of the best burritos I've ever had in my life. I grew up going to this exact Anna's location since I was probably like 5 years old and I've only ever gotten the same thing: super burrito with cheese, rice, pinto beans, the CARNITAS (!!!), pico de gallo, and hot sauce. If you get that combo you cannot go wrong. AND in 2025 it's less than $10 still, which in this economy, feels like a steal. Service is so quick, so it's a perfect grab and go. Stopped in here while in Porter Square for a quick snack. I think they were making the Burria meat fresh cause they said that taco was gonna take about 5min and I saw them restock the Birria tray as my taco was being prepared (yum!) That taco was phenomenal, the Al pastor was good too. I've seen these places around Boston and now I know stop in here over the other chains. This place was fast (minus the 5min wait which I think was not the norm) so I'll keep Anna's in mind next time I need a quick bite and want tacos or a burrito. read more

I love Anna's. It's the original Chipotle. Buffet style mexican food. But the original cooks their meat on site. Leaves the meat in it's savory juices. Melts the cheese on the tortilla. Offers two size burritos in the softest tortilla. Has the cheesiest and most delicious quesadillas. Offers horchatas! I could keep going but you should already be on your way to Anna's. I understand it's a chain, I get that it's different at each location. This is THE location. My wife and I come here first literally any time we come to the city, this specific one. There is free parking behind the building (iykyk). Staff has always been awesome, they're efficient, friendly, and if you ask for extra jalapeños boy do they come through. Our advice, get 2 if you're with someone, I promise you, you will demolish yours without help. I enjoyed this location over 22 years and never had an issue until last night. I ordered a Quesadilla and was told it would be 5 min for the grill to warm up, I was fine with that. When I ordered and was ready to make payment with a $20 bill I was told "we don't have change". All I got was a "sorry". Yet I was starving and had money. I remember when Anna's was cash only. Wish it was still that way. I can understand not having change, but the way this was handled sucked. They could've posted a sign "no cash" or told me before i ordered. The staff at this location needs a training on Customer Service. I am beyond angry that after 22 years going to this location my money is now no good. Immediately displeased. This place has no AC, not even on incredibly hot days, the staff is inattentive and dismissive, and the food looks horrendous. I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla, and received a sloppy, soaking wet tortilla, only slightly cooked, with so little cheese and greasy chicken, that is falls apart. Who rolls a quesadilla?? This is a picture after I dried off all the oil that seeped out and got rid of the 27 napkins I used. Highly disappointed by a terrible quesadilla that was highly over priced. I'll admit the chicken tasted pretty good, but I have really bland taste, so definitely not spicy for the more adventurous than me. read more

Placed an online order for a burrito with chicken, rice, pinto beans, cheese, pico and lettuce. The receipt told me to pick it up in 20 to 25 minutes. I came in 30 minutes later and they hadn't made it, despite the fact that there was only one other customer in the shop. A worker asked me to wait a couple of minutes, which I did, and then a SECOND worker came up to me, showed me a receipt, and asked if it was my order. I said yes, and then the second worker walked off... saying nothing. A few more minutes went by, the FIRST worker returned and (without looking at the receipt, or me) quickly slapped a few ingredients on a burrito, wrapped it, and then handed it over. I wanted to ask if everything was in there, but then figured they must know what they were doing... WRONG. When I got home I found that it was chicken, rice and beans -- no lettuce, no cheese, no pico. (And NO TASTE, EITHER...) I looked at my receipt to make sure I'd placed the order that I thought I had, and, sure enough, I had -- they just hadn't bothered to look. Thanks for screwing up a basic burrito. Service here has been atrocious several times, young man has built us several burritos etc and has a horrible attitude all while getting the order completely wrong or not caring to build an edible item. Constantly over loading with sour cream, or not wrapping correctly and serving with an attitude. I gather he can likely get away with this with largely a student clientelle but literally EVERY OTHER ANNAS is a much better experience. The ultimate pleb Mexican joint. Anna's has always been enough to please the easily impressed townies and faux-cultured white folk of the Boston suburbs. The bland taste and mushy texture of nearly everything on offer is inoffensive to those with weak, child-like pallets. The best thing I can say about Anna's is that it exists; you can go here and you can buy a burrito. You could even eat that burrito, but why would you? Why would you waste your time here when the greater Boston area has loads of amazing and interesting Mexican restaurants with better food and better menus? Whenever I hear someone talk about how good Anna's is, I ask them about the other Mexican restaurants in the area. 99% of the time these people haven't been anywhere else. Anna's' prime demographic seems to be people that have never been to another Mexican restaurant, and I find that kind of disgusting. Please don't waste your time here. read more

Wish I could rate them lower. I have never felt so disrespected at a restaurant in my life. The service here is absolutely terrible. Today I went in and tried to order a quesadilla and was ignored for 20 minutes after ordering. Two girls were working there and talking to each other and ignoring me. They finally started making my quesadilla and put very little of everything I asked for and basically no sour cream. I asked for more sour cream and they charged me extra after already being ignored for 20 minutes. I asked why they charged extra and they were incredibly rude and I decided to walk out and leave my quesadilla. I come here often due to convenience (steps from the porter t stop) and usually I'd give it 3 or 4 stars. The chicken tastes dry, the ingredients never blew me away, but WOW. I ordered the al pastor speciality tacos last night and they were fantastic. Succulent, spicy beef, drizzles of guacamole and salsa, and a sprinkle of cilantro and onion, all on top of hot corn tortillas. I got 2 for just $7! I'm 100% coming back for these. read more

My family and I tend to go here about once a month because the food is so good. We decided to order online, which we don't do often because we have had issues with online orders at Anna's in the past, but we were in a hurry. I picked up the order and didn't look in the bags, my mistake for assuming they got the order right. When I got home I noticed that we were missing an order of chips and salsa. I called the restaurant and the woman said I didn't order it. I read from the receipt everything that I ordered. She proceeded to tell me that I didn't order the chips and salsa, only one order of chips and guacamole. Yes, I also ordered chips and guacamole because it was a loyalty discount. She set the phone down and when she came back she said she would process a refund for the chips and salsa. Fast forward to today and still nothing refunded. I called back and the man that answered again said I did not order the item and hung up on me. I have the receipt in hand and will gladly send a picture to the restaurant with both the chips and salsa and the chips and guacamole circled so they can see I did order them. It's not about the refund at this point, it is the fact that they keep telling me I didn't order it when it is on the receipt AND the fact that I was hung up on. I used to frequent this location a lot when I was around Porter Square more often. These days, I don't really come here as much but I'm still happy to say Anna's still provides a good, consistent product. I've had the tacos here but 99% of my visits to Anna's (here or elsewhere) are for the super steak burrito. It's a robust sized burrito with steak that's not dry but is flavorful. You get an abundance of whatever you want in there and I like that fact that the cheese and tortilla are heated up before. The only drawback to that is if you order lettuce in your burrito, by the time you take it home or to the office, the lettuce is cooked as a result of the hot tortilla and cheese. Service? If you expect pristine service here then expectations are unrealistic. They're decently polite and don't yell at you, which is fine by me. read more

If you're from the West Coast: No, these burritos are not as good/authentic/real as whatever you get out there. But NEWSFLASH nowhere is. So stop whining and enjoy what we've got here in Boston. I love Anna's. My standard go-to is a small burrito with cheese with black beans and squash or sweet potato. Yes, that's right, the nice folks behind the counter will pick out the veggies I want from the tub of veggies available. I'm not a huge fan of their guacamole or horchata, but other than that, I think Anna's is very solid. I would be lying if I said I didn't eat here regularly during grad school. They are masters of efficiency (with the exception of one dude last time who was clearly learning) and prices are decent. Now that they take credit cards, they're even more convenient. Note: The quesadilla is not a flat thing. It is a tortilla that has been covered in grease and cheese and then rolled up like a burrito. It is delicious, but it might involve thousands of calories.
