I did not know who Johnny Mercer was until I went on this cemetery tour. You can't visit Savannah without doing a cemetery tour, and Bonaventure produces the best one. When we researched sites and attractions to visit for our first trip to Savannah, we were told the 6th Sense Tours of Bonaventure Cemetery was the one to do. There's undoubtedly a hauntingly beautiful vibe about the cemetery, which is the final resting place for many people, such as famous songwriter Johnny Mercer and Little Gracie. Make sure you arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour to find parking, check in, and meet up with your group. Otherwise, they will leave without you, so take note. Starting from the visitor information center, we walked down the road through the gates of Bonaventure Cemetery to where our storyteller provided us with history regarding the sites to where we stopped to take pictures and take in the surroundings that comprise more than 100 acres. They discuss events and people that you couldn't digest the same way on your own. The scenery is certainly beautiful between the overhanging trees, all different styles of gravesites that stretch back to the 19th century, and what feels like the never-ending resting places of many families. Some of the gravesites have the designated sign for CSA (Confederate States of America), which means those have this sign fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. If you love history, then you will love taking a tour here. As you walk past the various gravesites, there's a lot of history, seeing gravestones of those who passed dating back to at least the mid-1800s. Our tour guide navigated us through the cemetery, which gave us a different vibe from most cemeteries you may have visited. read more

I enjoyed a wonderful Bonaventure Cemetery Journey today with Shannon Scott as the guide! He did an amazing job relating facts and figures about all the souls resting here. The history, folklore, and tales made the walkabout so easy and before I knew it, 2+ hours had passed. I am already adding books he mentioned to my reading list, historical figures to my learning list, and cemetery sculptures to my "to do for my grave" list!!! Today was well worth the cost of admission and I wish I could do it again to "cement" those things in my mind! I especially loved learning about little Gracie Watson! Great Job Shannon! read more

Excellent adventure! Pascal was our guide and he was outstanding! We were in Savannah for 4 days and saw many of the sites. We all agreed that this tour was the highlight. Pascal walked us through the history, art, and family stories of several of the "residents". If I were back in Savannah, I would definitely do this tour again and would recommend to family and friends. You can take this tour at night, which I'm sure is great, but we liked going during the day to have the daylight view of the beautiful grounds. read more

What an amazing tour! It was quite literally a dark and stormy night when we went on this tour of Bonaventure Cemetery on Saturday evening, 11/6/21. The tour is rain or shine and everyone braved the storm to hear 3 hours of the amazing tour guide, Shannon Scott, tell us some incredible, and often eerie, stories about the history of Savannah and Bonaventure Cemetery. We went on the daytime tour, which started on time and went a little bit over (no one was complaining). Lisa Marie was amiable and very knowledgeable about the history behind some of the cemetery's graves. These stories were intriguing and kept me engaged. However, she didn't convey as much about the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil as the Web site would have you believe. All in all, an excellent experience. Highly recommend. read more

The way Mr. Scott intertwined history, personal experience, and folklore made me anxiously await his next story as we walked in the cemetery. Bonaventure Cemetery is consistently ranked as one of the world's most beautiful cemeteries and I highly recommend visiting it. We can honestly say that after a two week vacation, seeing things/tours in 5 states, this was the best tour we had the pleasure of taking! It is more than obvious that Shannon Scott loves what he does. His extensive knowledge of the history of the area and the residents of the graveyard prove for an interesting and educating tour. We were all entranced as the history unfolded with his humorous delivery. It ended for too soon. After the tour my hubby & I walked around a bit more and overheard two other tour guides delivering what sounded like a stale account of history, (had enough of that is school, thanks!).
