We decided to schedule this tour very last minute. We scheduled a 10am walking tour. Our guide was Dawn of Savannah's Dead. She was so wonderful! We were fortunate to only have 1 other couple on our tour and so it was very private. She had such great energy and knowledge. She even sang to us at Mercier's grace plot! This tour is 2 hours of walking. They provided hand fans at the beginning of the tour. Their shop and bathroom is decked out in ghost stuff and that may be because we are approaching Halloween season. Or because it's a cemetery tour. I highly recommend booking this. We paid $23 per person with the military discount. We learned a lot and really enjoyed our time.

Absolutely amazing! I learned so much and had a great time! Our tour guide was awesome! Highly recommend.

This was an awesome tour of the Bonaventure Cemetery. Don did a great job of painting the picture of how people lived during different times from when cemetery was a plantation to when it was turned into the cemetery. He really knows his stuff without question. For me it was interesting to hear about founders of Savannah, see where they lived from other tours, then see where they were laid to rest. It didn't surprise me to hear that people get married in the cemetery. The oak trees with moss hanging were so beautiful. It wasn't the season for the flower buds on the trees and brush when I went, however Don showed us pictures of how that would look. Graveyards can be scary for some but I enjoyed walking through and seeing the different headstones and family plots. I definitely think this I is worth checking out. Either do this first or do after a tour of downtown.

We were in Savannah in late October and booked a Bonaventure Cemetery Tour for one of the mornings. The meeting location was very easy to find, there was plenty of parking and inside the office/gift shop there were several bathrooms for people on the tours. Just before the start time, we were all met outside by 'Dawn of Savannah's Dead,' who would be our guide. We were all checked in and asked to share where we were from. With a brief intro and safety information about the short walk to the cemetery, we were off. The pace of the tour, even with a group of maybe 25 was nice, not too rushed, enough time to take some photos, but also not too slow. It was very clear from the onset that Dawn knows Savannah and Bonaventure. She was incredible with sharing information about the property's history, the cemetery and notable figured buried there. But, she also shared some interesting information on funeral iconography and what many of the grave decorations, and statues represent. Where Dawn really excels is in her storytelling - she knows about the people who make the cemetery famous. From the family who owned the plantation to the founding fathers of Savannah and other notables buried on the property. It was informative, interesting, and well worth the price! Two side notes, not necessarily related to the tour - Bring some bug spray as you're right off the river and can get buggy. Additionally, if your schedule allows spending some time in the cemetery after their tour. They cover a TON in two hours but we really enjoyed wandering a bit more on our own afterward.

The cemetery was very interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend this place

I toured this beautiful & somewhat live oak Spanish moss lined southern gothic cemetery with "Dawn of the dead of Savannah". She was awesome & didn't spare any details. Not only was she informative about religious art/preparation of Victorian era bodies for death but she told of Savannah's richly intimate society as well. I could have done an 8 hour tour with her! Take this tour & thank me later

What a great time with our tour leader Dawn of Savannah Dead. She took us all across the cemetery telling us stories of Savannah families. The scandals the love stories how the southerners won't let their graves face the north. I recommend this tour with Dawn. We learned so much in two short hours.

Booked this tour for Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Tour group was small, maybe 20 guests, and our tour guide was the infamous Dawn of the Savannah Dead. If you are lucky she will even sing you a little song! Highly recommend this tour company.

A "Must-Do" On Your Trip To Savannah! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bonaventure-cemetery-tours-savannah-4?select=mIOgvnsfrROcNqvlbsOBZw SITREP Your trip to Savannah will be missing one of the BEST stops you could possibly make if you don't go to Bonaventure Cemetery ("Bonaventure"), actually in the TOP 10 LIST for most beautiful cemeteries in the world. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bonaventure-cemetery-tours-savannah-4?select=r17MwilsXo0WFGpH6t7nfQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE SETUP I met up with a wonderful group of friends for an active itinerary of events during a weekend in Savannah, and this tour was definitely one of the highlights of the entire weekend. THE BEAUTY As the locals proudly share, Bonaventure Cemetery is hauntingly beautiful and is quintessentially Southern Gothic. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bonaventure-cemetery-tours-savannah-4?select=_nOL8NSi3K_gOcbY9psM0Q&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w Over the better part of two (2) centuries, Bonaventure has captured the imaginations of writers, poets, naturalists, photographers, and filmmakers, and is visually stunning because it is: = part natural cathedral https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bonaventure-cemetery-tours-savannah-4?select=3_q6lQo-TaBQ0ip5FcrmYA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w = part sculptural garden https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bonaventure-cemetery-tours-savannah-4?select=GQMXZizz33khJKMxL1t5DA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w = but with a reverence for even the more distant past into the lands of the Pharaohs far far way... https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bonaventure-cemetery-tours-savannah-4?select=US1k52CrPKMHC0IZxglfCw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w These all allow you moments to transcend time to an earlier era in The South. THE LOWDOWN A must-stop on your trip to Savannah.

This historical cemetery tour with Mrs. Dawn was splendid!! She did an amazing job and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend booking with her! The gift shop worker was not very nice so don't judge it off of her, ha. They are not exaggerating about the bugs!! They are HORRIBLE. Even though it's hot, wear a loose long sleeve to keep the bugs off.

    David L.

Steven was a great guide, he had many stories of the cemetery, and tidbits and fun facts about general cemetery lore and tradition. The two hours went quickly, but was very enjoyable. He took our picture at the grave of Gracie at the end of the tour.

    Amy P.

We did the tour with Dawn of Savannah's Dead. She was incredibly knowledgeable and had a very captivating way of telling the stories. We went with our five kids (ages 8-18), and they enjoyed it as well (although a little long for the eight year old). They were impressed by how much she knew about the people and the history of the cemetery so much that they begged to go back for one of her ghost tours! Unfortunately, they were sold out for our dates/group size, but I would recommend Dawn to anyone looking for a great tour. A couple of tips: go to the bathroom prior to starting the tour, wear comfy shoes, bring bug spray, bring water, and take the fan they offer you at the check in desk! It truly was a life saver!

I wish I had done a little research on her, as I did after leaving her tour...oh my, I probably would have asked so many more questions, I had no idea of the advocate she is. Our Charleston based tour planner and staff at our Beaufort B and B raved about Janet's tour and how she brings the city of Beaufort and its magnificent homes and history to life. Unfortunately her delegate who gave us our tour on June 5 was UNACCEPTABLE. I believer we would have enjoyed our two hours more just walking around on our own. We learned more of Beaufort's history, houses and residents on our Dolphins Adventures Tour than we did with this replacement guide. There were only 4 of us on the tour and the guide spent the entire time talking with two phd child psychology students, a couple, trying to impress them with his knowledge of their field of study. He spent more time on this than talking about Beaufort. We traditionally love walking tours as it allows for engagement with the guide etc. We were ignored like we were not even on the tour zero engagement the exact opposite of every other one of our tours on our two week trip. . A church was unlocked for us to walk in. Unfortunately a number of others sauntered in the open door and we had to wait a good 15 minutes while the others moseyed around the interior used the bathroom (queued) etc. as our guide had to wait until they left. Because he had to lock up.

When we researched sites and attractions to visit for our first trip to Savannah, we were told the 6th Sense Tours of Bonaventure Cemetery was the one to do. There's undoubtedly a hauntingly beautiful vibe about the cemetery, which is the final resting place for many people, such as famous songwriter Johnny Mercer and Little Gracie. Make sure you arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour to find parking, check in, and meet up with your group. Otherwise, they will leave without you, so take note. Starting from the visitor information center, we walked down the road through the gates of Bonaventure Cemetery to where our storyteller provided us with history regarding the sites to where we stopped to take pictures and take in the surroundings that comprise more than 100 acres. They discuss events and people that you couldn't digest the same way on your own. The scenery is certainly beautiful between the overhanging trees, all different styles of gravesites that stretch back to the 19th century, and what feels like the never-ending resting places of many families. Some of the gravesites have the designated sign for CSA (Confederate States of America), which means those have this sign fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. If you love history, then you will love taking a tour here. As you walk past the various gravesites, there's a lot of history, seeing gravestones of those who passed dating back to at least the mid-1800s. Our tour guide navigated us through the cemetery, which gave us a different vibe from most cemeteries you may have visited.
