Let me start with all the positives. First, the server Dara was very friendly and attentive. She came around my table multiple times to see how I was doing, if I needed anything, and checked in on my order. Star-waitress, I'd hire her for every restaurant. Second, the ambiance is really cool. With the neon wall art, cool LED-strip lighting, and the wooden tables with cozy lights. Good, chilled-back music that's great for this type of restaurant. Lastly, the food. Best pickled radish I've ever had. Couldn't even tell it was radish at first. Had this sweet, delicate taste to it. Also, there were several beers I came across that I never tried before. They had a lot of food options to choose from which is nice. Had the seasoned fries which were tasty. Would have been helpful if they listed what was on them (e.g. parmesan) since some might be lactose intolerant. I feel most Yelp pictures don't so the appearance of the chicken its justice. My main critique about the chicken is that it's overly friend but that's my personal preference. Much like when Chinese restaurants fry chicken wings. I think if they reduced the temperature a bit, the skin wouldn't be so "uncomfortably crunchy" when biting it (yet alone messy). With sauce, the skin can act like a carmelized shell. Great place for some crispy Korean chicken wings. The restaurant is fairly decent sized for a bonchon and casual. We stopped by when they had the promo for $1 wings and got the classic soy garlic, Korean bbq and yangneom style wings. The soy garlic was great as usual, and the yangeom had a nice spice without being as spicy as the original spicy. Id pass on the Korean bbq flavor, it had a sour taste that I didn't really enjoy, I was expecting it to be more sweet. We pored it all with some beer and fried rice and it was a hearty meal. Bonchon was easily one of my favorite places to eat at growing up, especially this location at the time when this was the only one around! With all the bb.q chicken locations popping up, and all the flavor options they offer, I have not felt the need to visit Bonchon in a while. Last I visited, my experience was kind of disappointing as I remembered loving this place so much and I recall leaving here thinking that the quality really went downhill, from the service to the food. Our food arrived to the table lukewarm and basically became cold within minutes. And I am a temperature person, so when food isn't hot enough, I just have a hard time enjoying the experience. And let me just say, when I first found out about bb.q chicken (the one down the street) a couple years ago before they started popping up w/ many locations, I tried it and honestly liked Bonchon still more. Bonchon was still very good a few years ago and the size of the wings and drumsticks were HUGE! You can see it from past reviews and pictures that the size in chicken is very noticeable and now, the pieces are very tiny and just not the same quality and taste. I also miss when they used to offer the salmon avocado ball... it was my favorite menu item ever! Although, I've only been like 2-3 times (usually for celebrations like last day of work, friends going away, birthday) but all the times I've been, everything was DELICIOUS. Portions are BIG (good for splitting), definitely warm, filling, LARGE variety of menu items to choose from - I love their scallion pancakes LOL, but honestly anything is good. Had a gift card to Bonchon and finally decided to check it out. We ordered Tteobokki, Popcorn shrimp and a half&half order of boneless chicken with soy garlic and spicy sauce. The popcorn shrimp was probably the best out of the 3. A bit salty but crispy enough. The Korean fried chicken was extremely disappointing. It was very dry, the actual chicken had no seasoning, and the breading was extremely tough. Both the soy garlic and spicy sauces just didn't have a good enough taste to redeem the chicken. I always expect KFC to be juicy and crispy but I got neither at Bonchon. The Tteobokki was quite spicy and mind you, I can handle spice but it was extremely hot so be forewarned. For main dishes, we ordered the tteokbokki and takoyaki as a starter. The KFC was pretty good, crunchy, flavors weren't overpowering and were pretty filling. It was my first time trying gimmari, or Korean deep-fried seaweed rolls and it was super good. The tteokbokki was also good shareable portion for us. I think BonChon is great to go on a date if you want leftovers or with a group of friends. We paid $20 each and were pretty full afterward so it was definitely worth it. I haven't been to Bonchon in while since i do not live in the area, coming out on a friday night was pleasant. Got seated immediately and was given waters. Waiter kept up with refilling our drinks since the food we picked was quite spicy. The food was amazing, there were korean tacos but they got eaten before i was able to even take a picture. The pork bao buns were very good, the pork was a bit fatty but it was cooked perfect so it melted in my mouth. The fried chicken always hits, their spicy is no joke spicy so if you can't handle heat definitely stick to the regular BBQ. Their drums are huge and the skin is super crunchy, meat falls off the bone. The only real inconvenience was that that food was too hot to eat when it came out, definitely not complaining about that! But, did burn my mouth trying to dig into my main course because it was too hot to eat. Their special fries have a great crunch and seasoned very well. The donut was amazing, it comes out fresh, hot, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside served with a side of sweetened condensed milk, to die for. They had basketball games playing, loved that. Couple of TVs, kept me entertained for sure. Here is my letter to management after I made the grave mistake of giving them another chance. To, Whoever cares....enough! There was a time a while back I considered a franchise option for BonChon. I was impressed by the quality, food and ambience. However, after repeatedly having bad dine in experiences, I kept ordering the wings as takeout. Yesterday I made the grave mistake of taking a date to BonChon. The worst decision of my life. I ordered the Boneless chicken wings and returned them TWICE, finally ended up not eating at all. The quality, presentation and temperature were all off. Food is supposed to look good and piping hot, mine looked over breaded, burnt (BURNT, not double fried) and sauce was coated by a 4 year old I had to remind the server to provide us with the coleslaw and the raddish. He informed be BonChon is now so cheap, they offer you a choice of only 1. I cannot believe how far you have sunk Ordered the Taekbokki, its supposed to have melted cheese. They literally had cheese sprinkled on top, like shredded cheese not melted. It was disgusting. I was a customer of takeout a few times a year (bad dine in experiences: untrained staff, bad food presentation/quality, dirty plates and glasses), BUT NOW, even the food is rotten quality wise. Bonchon is still good but don't expect too much from service right now. Times have changed. Post pandemic indoor dining is a post apocalypse landscape where it's tough to hire enough people. Seasoned fries, amazing. Bonchon no longer has XL combo of wings and drums, so the next size down L combo is the biggest you can get ($39 (up from $32)). Their fried chicken is so much better dining in than take out. Unfortunately you only get one side with each chicken order, down from pre-pandemic of getting both coleslaw and pickled radish per order of chicken. Bonchon used to be our family's favorite place for Korean fried chicken. My family and I used to come by here all the time when we were in Boston visiting my sister at Northeastern University. However, the food has changed quite significantly in the last few years. There is so much inconsistency depending on the day. Lately, I've been noticing that the chicken is leaning on the dry side and lacking enough of the soy garlic sauce to compensate for this. Unfortunately, I can't say I will come back again because I've already given them multiple opportunities for redemption and have been let down each time. If there is a cockroach in the dining area, I can't even imagine how many there are in the KITCHEN. Told the waiter, and he failed to kill the roach. After that, we just grabbed the bill and left immediately. Will not be returning ever and the restaurant probably needs another inspection.
