Yet another Brookline restaurant I regret not trying sooner! This past weekend I stopped in for a quick solo lunch around 1:30. I happened to be the only one in there, but could tell the staff was working on some online or takeout orders. I was nicely greeted and shown to a seat. After giving me water they took my order. I got the crab wontons, their take on crab rangoons, as well as three different rolls (yes my eyes are bigger than my stomach). I went with the eel avocado roll as well as the spicy tuna and yellowtail rolls. I was REALLY impressed by the quality of all the food. I was given the wontons first and they were perfectly crispy and filled. I dislike when the ratio of filling to wonton is too heavy on the filling side and things get messy. They were also SUPER hot which is a personal must. My only qualm is I would've loved a bit more sauce, there were a lot of wontons for that small dish of sweet chili sauce. In terms of the sushi I surprisingly loved the spicy yellowtail the best. Normally the other 2 are my favorite but I might've found a new go-to. The others were great as well, though. You could seriously tell the tuna was JUST cut from the fish (I watched the sushi chef do so!). Notably, the ratio on the eel-avocado roll was great as well as the amount of eel sauce. Stopped by here for a quick takeout lunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. I've walked through Washington square week after week and hardly noticed this little restaurant off the main square, but I will certainly be returning again and again. I got the Spicy Fusion Maki Combo and I will happily return here again and again because of how great it was. Spicy Fusion Maki Combo - $15.95 (spicy tuna roll or spicy salmon roll, shrimp tempura roll, California roll) - First, $15.95 for three rolls AND miso soup is unheard of in this day and age - what a great price. And while you don't get to choose the three rolls, the ones that this combo comes with were really great. I'm normally not a huge California roll or Shrimp Tempura roll person, but both of these were above average. The California roll had a good ratio of ingredients, the avocado was fresh, and it had nice crunchy fish eggs on the outside layer, which isn't always something sushi places do. The Shrimp Tempura had the same fish roe, and the tempura was crispy and fresh - there was hardly any greasiness and it feels like this restaurant changes their oil frequently. And then the spicy tuna was delicious - it had large chunks of tuna mixed with the spicy mayo and tempura flakes. Some places give you a mush of everything mixed together, but you can really see the individual chunks of tuna in this one. The family who owns the place was really friendly, the food came out quickly, everything was absolutely delicious, and the price is so so so good. We went here for lunch (around 12-1) on a Sunday Holiday weekend. Street parking is available nearby. Sundays were free, but for weekdays download the "Passport" parking app and get the zone and space number off of the meter for the easiest way to pay. Look for the red awning on Washington to find the restaurant easier (see uploaded pic for storefront.). This is a mom-and-pop style local restaurant with very limited seating and a casual atmosphere. There are about three tables plus sushi counter seating (see pic). Consequently, do not come with a big group or else order take out. The in-store menu was different from that posted online on our visit (see menu pics). They have a pretty traditional Japanese menu for sushi and bento box/platter style items. Bento boxes may only be available on weekdays, call to check with them. On our visit we got: (1) salmon, tuna, and yellow tail sashimi, (2) tamago and unagi sushi, (3) seaweed salad (see pic), (4) teriyaki chicken, and (5) shrimp yakisoba. The sashimi was outstanding and better than many expensive upscale restaurants in terms of quantity and quality of the pieces of sashimi that they served. The sushi and seaweed salad were of very good quality. The shrimp yakisoba was just ok. The teriyaki chicken had a small portion, the quality of chicken was good, but overall, this dish was not very good and we would recommend not getting it. Like happens many times, we were hungry and forgot to take pics of most of our food. The service was excellent in terms of how nice the people are who work here and how responsive they were. However, the lady who took our order did not write our order down and either did not hear or forgot put in our order for seaweed salad. Once we let them know about this, they were very apologetic and got it out to us right away. Overall, we would highly recommend this place for sashimi and sushi, but the platter, bento, and other items may be hit and miss. So, if you are in the area and want sushi/sashimi, then definitely give this place a try. read more

The quality of food is great and the service is always good even when I call to place an order. I usually order spicy maki fusion combo of 3 rolls and think it is very much worth the $16. Consistently good! That's how I would describe Super Fusion. It's a no frills joint. You think of takeout sushi, and this place comes to mind. Fifteen minutes and your order is ready. We've ordered multiple times now. I don't believe they have an online ordering system, but it's super easy to call and place your order, takes a minute at the most. We've had the spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and a couple other rolls - they've all been tasty. A special mention of their vegetarian roll, the Hawaii one, which has mango, banana, avocado, cucumber, and cream cheese. Don't knock it till you've tried it! And thanks to the many many Yelp reviews recommending the Beni Toro Banana, we ordered it and enjoyed it. Great value sushi with a special touch in this local joint. The inside is quaint and has a few small tables and 3-4 bar seats. It's very much a family neighborhood feel. It's also BYOB. Service here is definitely customer friendly. They sometimes take longer than estimated to get orders done, but they prefer to get things right and make things right if necessary. Super friendly staff. Probably 80-90% of people get takeout here. Unfortunately not on major delivery apps. The sushi here is always fresh. They have a few weekly specials and will recommend what's great right now if you ask them. We love the tuna carpaccio maki, 690A maki, brown belt combo, saki papaya maki, dashi tofu, and any of the sashimi. Price is average for sushi around Brookline with better quality on average. This is a spot that me and my husband frequent as a "go to" for our sushi fix. The quality is always fresh and the rolls are always adequate in quantity (there's nothing I hate more than skimpy sushi rolls!) The restaurant itself, however, is very small, consisting of possibly 4 or 5 two-top tables and a bar seating 3 or 4 people so if you're coming here on a Friday or Saturday night you are far better off ordering takeout. See attached call history as proof. Ordered sushi at 5:50 pm on the phone with these guys and was told 45 mins on Valentine's Day. Fine, no problem thinking that they must be busy today. I go an hour later with my girlfriend and it wasn't ready. My girlfriend went inside and was waiting for about 10 minutes without being acknowledged and was told to step outside so that other people could order. When she told them that we ordered an hour ago, the host didn't even try to acknowledge our order and was like "ok but still step outside so others can order." Bullshit. We saw it was busy so we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and went to pick up our smoothies from Allston. That took about 15 mins. Girlfriend wanted to go to Trader Joe's while we were in the area which took about an hour. I called in and asked about the order, confirmed my phone number (since that's how they track orders) and they said "sorry give me a few more minutes. No problem. Girlfriend gave them a call for update and they asked for more time. Gave them another hour and change while we went driving around Brookline and Allston killing time and to Whole Foods down the street from them. Called again while shopping and was told AGAIN few more minutes and that they'd call me when it was done. It's about 8:30pm, an 2 hours and 40 minutes after I ordered at this point. At this point my patience has run thin, I work in retail pharmacy so I understand busy times but I go back at 8:50 a whole 3 hours after I placed my order and the host said "oh I thought you canceled your order." ????????? When did I say that? Horrible customer service on VALENTINES DAY. My girlfriend and I worked all day, without lunch so that we could enjoy a large sushi dinner. I went there expecting an apology at minimum, but wasn't even greeted with that.They didn't even offer me a discount, I had to ask for one and all they gave me was 8 bucks off. tLDR: They made me and gf wait 3 hours for our order while they took everyone else's orders. Called 3-4 times to check on order and kept being told to give them more time. This is my new go to sushi place! I hace had my fair share of sushi joints and this one met my needs. The prices are fair and the sushi is great. My buddy and I just finished our workout and decided to get a healthyish lunch, but wanted to try a new spot. It was a saturday and they still had their lunch special running so we took advantage. My friend ordered the salmon teriyaki, I got the sashimi lunch, and we split 2 rolls. The 690a Maki and a newer Maki that had salmon tuna and yellow tail with tobiko. My friends salmon looked alright, was a fair size for a lunch special but didn't look anything special. My sashimi lunch was excellent. They were what I call "2 biters" and the quality of the sushi was quite fresh. The lunch special was 12 bucks and you get 7 pieces of salmon tuna and yellow tail. I judge places on the quality of their salmon and it passed the test with flying colors. The rolls were stuffed with big cuts of fish and enough rice to hold it together but not too much where you feel like you're eating a ball of rice with some fish. The 690a had scorched salmon on top of a spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna roll is made fresh to order, I was impressed. Alot of places premake spicy tuna, they assemble it to order. If you are looking for a good date spot, this is not your place. The ambiance is comparable to a Chinese takeout restaurant with 4 tables a 4 high top chairs and the sushi bar. If you're looking for good sushi at a fair price, this place is for you. You can get the same quality sushi as fugakyu down the street but at a better price point. read more

This is my go-to sushi spot for quick and cheap dine-in or take-out. Yes, it's a tiny hole in the wall and you order by circling items on plastic menus with dry-erase markers, but don't knock it 'til you try it. The fish is always fresh. My fave items are: salmon sashimi (thick, buttery slices that melt in your mouth), black forest maki (eel, fried sweet potato, cucumber, and tobiko), and spicy yellowtail (just enough kick and mayo). Oh, want to know a secret menu item? Order the binnaga nigiri. If you're lucky, the chefs will make it for you. I discovered it while skimming reviews on their wall of achievement; one Boston food critic wrote about "a nigiri sushi offering called binnaga, described as 'seared albacore tuna.' The fish is pure white, yet it tastes grilled. And it's almost fluffy -- it's like eating a pillow. A really, really tasty pillow." Reading that turned me on more than Fifty Shades of Grey did. The same with the rest of the rolls :( all were covered in a sweet soy sauce that masks the taste of everything else. Yep, I just paid $20 for a tray of rice in sweet sticky sauce. Miso soup was a sad cup of tiny tofu pieces and a few strings of seaweed. I have had better instant miso than that! I've never had sushi with sweet potato before, and it was a surprisingly good combination. Rising sun - This isn't on the menu, but I saw someone else order it, and it looked great so I decided to try it. I've had the tuna ball, the tuna carpaccio roll, and a bunch of other rolls that I don't remember. All were pretty good. The seafood avocado salad is yum too! I hear the rolls with sweet potato are amazing too. The only roll I remember not being too fond of was the fried roll with eel and cream cheese in the middle. It was a bit too dry..But super fusion is definitely a keeper in my list of restaurants to frequent. They were really, really busy and not attentive to us at all. There is only 1 waitress for the 12 seats in the restaurant so it's understanding... Maybe take out is better. What we ordered: *Sashimi deluxe: we got 3 pieces of salmon, tuna, white tuna, yellow tail, and mackerel. The pieces were extremely thick and fresh. My favorite was the salmon. *Spicy salmon roll: what I loved about this classic roll was the fact that there was a lot more fish than rice. Super fusion is great! It was really busy when I did take out and I'm glad I decided against eating there. The space is cramped, but their sushi is delicious. If you need your sushi fix in Washington Square, check it out. I had the fusion combo, and it's probably one of their more value based combos. It was good! Reason why it's not 4 stars? So this is basically the general run of the mill you get what you pay for place. Except it's not as good as Irashai in Chinatown. And that's kind of saying a lot. Extra star for fast take out service, but overall a 2 star dining experience that left me feeling "ugh I really wish I hadn't consumed this many useless calories on a non gym day." When I try a new sushi place I generally order twice as much food as I'm going to eat just in case half the food sucks. It's was a good plan! The rolls were as follows: Volcano-really highlight of the meal. Not as good as at Fugakyu (big surprise...not). Kani katsu--deep fried shrimp and crab stick. Can't tell if I love it or hate it. Leaning more towards hate though. Good idea in theory...I really wish I had some spicy ponzu sauce or something. It was kind of dry and not enough tart. Spicy tuna-not very much tuna and a whole lot of pink slime stuff. Alaska maki-the amount of avocado really overwhelms the roll. Again spicy mayo or ponzu would have really helped here. But any time you need extra sauce to mask the taste of something, lets be honest..not a great idea. So, overall I got a shit ton of borderline mediocre sushi for 24$. I don't know if ill come back here again, but if I do I'll stick to the volcano roll and maybe a simple crazy maki. read more

So I want to preface this review by saying that I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to good sushi. I grew up a couple towns over from Oishii Too and that is where my family has frequented for years. However, I recently moved to Brookline and was looking for some sushi to celebrate making it through my first week, and I came across Super Fusion. Looking at all the yelp reviews, in addition to it being a reasonable walk, I figured I'd give it a shot. I ordered my usual order from any sushi restaurant; 2 pieces of nigiri, a regular maki, as well as a special maki are usually plenty for one person. At first glance, all the pieces looked (and tasted) very fresh. I enjoyed the fresh fish and vegetables, but unfortunately the tempura in my special roll fell flat. Although it was crispy, it tasted very fried and oily, almost like it had been left to fry for too long. So overall, I'll definitely be back to try another round, just without the tempura. read more

The place is pretty small - more like a takeout joint (only 2-3 tables). Luckily, when we got there - no customers so we got a table easily. The prices were reasonable and service was okay.
