It is a very unique store! 1. Perfume of your own making! The idea is good. You must buy minimum 3 full bottles, which makes it very expensive! 2. Interior is very beautiful! Be aware do not fall into the trap of purchasing any club memberships or any "offers" provided by Bond No. 9. I made the mistake of purchasing twice a club membership. They give you 1 year to collect, God forbid you are not done with the previous bottles as it happened to me, you are told that you must collect the remaining bottles, a few months later when you open the bottle you discover it is empty. You call to advise them about it and you are treated by the store manager as if you are trying to scam them for another bottle, no matter what history of purchase you have had in their store. I visited the Bond No. 9 flagship store last week while visiting New York. My daughter who is currently residing in New York is a big fan of the products. It does not surprise me that after being assisted by Customer Specialist Ben La Madrid I left a huge fan with plenty of products to use. Ben was very welcoming and friendly from the time we walked into the store. Other Sales people there were less than friendly and never made eye contact with us. Ben was phenomenal at listening to the scents I like to wear and matching my interest with Bond No. 9 products that compliment my preferences. He was excellent at showing me how I can wear more than 1 scent at a time and how some scents work together to customize the fragrances I like. Visiting the store was one of the highlights of my visit to NYC and Ben was a significant part of that experience. My favorites were Greenwich village, The Dubai collection, Governor island, and the scent of peace. I have worn Bond #9 for about 18 years now and have loved all the fragrances up until 3 years ago. They use to give samples freely but they ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT give out or mail anymore samples. The Bond counter staff now treat customers poorly until they realize the customer is going to make a purchase. Most importantly, they are now starting to sell expired or almost expired perfume bottles instead of trashing them or at least informing the customer of the expiration date and selling the bottle at a reduced price. The bottles use to last at least 3 years, now you are lucky if the bottle lasts 5-6 months. The last two bottles that I purchased, Scent of Peace turned rancid after 4 months and Tribeca turned rancid in 6 months..... This is absolutely ridiculous!!!!! Purchasing this perfume has turned into a money GRAB. The Bond Company and store locations are of no use if you reach out to them regarding spoiled fragrances. The company has taken a sharp spiral downward!!!!! I bought my fragrances during the time of a promotional and I have determined that it is during this time that they are pushing to get the expired and soon to expire products off the shelf....and to sell customers perfume bottles without a top screams financial problems. Beware!!!! The product, quality, and customer service is not the same. I have had 2 bottles of Chanel (Chance and Gabrielle) for 2 years and both bottles smell just as fresh as the first day I used them. We had a long day of shopping when we stopped into Bond No. 9. My gf has been a long time support of them. When I first saw her perfume bottle I was like wtf is that? Then she explained to me what it was and I had enjoyed her scent before not knowing what it was. So on our trip to NYC I figured a trip into the actual original store was worth checking out. When we stepped in we saw so many of the different bottles. Alexanolne, was quick to help us check out some of the different scents. We really enjoyed one of their new releases: Sag Harbor. I walked into the store @ 897 Madison Ave. Was welcomed by Teresa Celsa and she was absolutely perfect Non-discriminating, patient, honest, and well knowledged. She helped me smell my way through a wide arrange of selections and i was taken away maybe even a little over whelmed, but thanks to Teresa i was able to finalized my favirotes. Bond. 9 is a perfume company that makes scents after each neighborhood in NYC. I am a big fan of their colognes, and they are a bit pricey, but well worth the money! What makes Bond 9 so great is that they use around 18-20% of pure parfum oil in their scents. Regular colognes you find at Sephora and Macys typically only have 6-8% perfume concentration, and they don't last very long. However, Bond 9 scents will truly last you throughout the entire day. They have unbelievable lasting power! My personal favorite scents are.. Eau De New York- A citrus cologne that instantly awakens your senses, There are notes of Neroli, Vetiver, Musk, and Jasmine. WestSide- A beautiful musky rose scent. There are notes of Amber, Rose, Vanilla, Nuits De Noho- A spicy evening fragraces. There are notes of Patchouli, Jasmine and Vanilla. New York Musk: Their newest scent and it smells like a Wall street man in a suit, it is very masculine and spicy. There are notes of Musk, Amber, Vetiver, and Patchouli. The bottles are NOT cheap: a small bottle will cost you around $160.00 and a large around $220.00. However, they last forever, and a couple of sprays will last the entire day. They also sell Body creams in their scents and I use it in the morning during winter. It is made with rich silicone ingredients which instantly sink into your skin and absorb without any residue or sticky texture. The cream is so powerful, its almost a liquid lotion version of their wonderful fragrances. There are several Bond 9 Boutiques located in NYC, but outside of NYC they only sell Bond 9 at Saks Fifth Avenue Department Stores. While I have never been to a Bond 9 boutique, I am a huge fan of their fragrances and buy them frequently from Saks Fifth Avenue at South Coast Plaza and in Beverly Hills. I know dropping $115.00 on a body cream or $170.00 on a bottle of perfume is a bit pricey, but with Bond 9 the price is well worth it! Everywhere I go, I constantly get compliments on the scents I am wearing and I can detect them even when I am coming home from work in the evening. It's also great not smelling like every other guy who buys cologne from Sephora or Macys. If you don't live in NYC and can't visit the boutiques, you should go to your local Saks Fifth Avenue and check out their great scents! read more

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love Bond No. 9's fragrances. My favorites are Nuits De NoHo, Silver Factory, and New Haarlem. The absolute best. However, the service there is not so good. I feel like if you don't go in there dressed to the 9's, they don't really care to talk to you. That is, until they realize that you might actually make a purchase. Then the entire outlook changes. That kind of sucks. I'm sure they have a few customers who try to come in only looking for free samples, but to treat everyone that way is not good. Also, once you purchase something from them, you become a "preferred member" or something like that. Which basically means they send you free samples in the mail and kiss your ass when you shop in the store. I mean, when you first walk in, they'll begrudgingly help you, and then you subtly drop your "preferred customer" status, and suddenly they'll be super exited to show you all the new fragrances that you'd probably like! They do know their fragrances though. Most employees there can give you the individual scents that blend together to make up every one of their fragrances. Which is very impressive. But unless you're planning on buying one of the super expensive (but worth it if you have the money) bottles, they won't really care about you that much. I love love love the Scent of Peace! I had 3 bottles of wine with my friend at DBGB yesterday, had more wine at Mercat, decided on some apps at BondSt and while walking (barely walking) I realized I need to replenish my Scent of Peace supply. I am so glad I did. I missed this scent! I am a big Jo Malone fan but if it weren't for Bond's price point, I'd most likely shop here more often. Then again, the price point is one of the factors why I cherish the visits to this store and walking out with a baggy filled with months of comments from cab drivers, friends, loved ones - all wanting to know what I'm wearing. SCENT OF PEACE! Again, having background in fragrance, it's so personal to choose scents for oneself. I don't believe in men's, women's, unisex, whatever. You need to try it, love it, never smell it on yourself. If you smell fragrance on yourself, it's not for you. I am not a huge fan of the store's layout, sometimes I find the sales associates pushy but then again, I'm pretty darn good on clarifying that I am doing great on my own and will ask questions when I have some. Shawn and Michelle were working there last night and both could not have been more helpful. Michelle played Lady Gaga's Monster for me (special request) and Shawn was uber generous with samples, which I tremendously appreciated. I love having some of these candy wrapped vials in my bags ready to take a sniff and transport myself to the morning when the day was just starting! Big thanks for helping my friend who came with me - she's on a hunt for a signature scent and I told her we should totally visit Bond No 9. She did get her husband a bottle of Wall Street - will he like it? I'll ask. My favorites are definitely Scent of Peace. I love Union Square as well. Used up a bottle of The Hamptons and it was OK. But alas, free speech on the internet is the last refuge of the wronged-by-retail in our Gotham City. This review focuses on Bond No. 9 at 863 Washington Street in the Meatpacking district. I have no problem with the bond product (it is my favorite), but rather the service experienced at the Meatpacking location. The woman that worked there this late afternoon, early evening (white, seemed late 20's to 30's, ~5'5", light brown hair - working this Monday July 16, 2012) had such a palpable condescending tone and unwelcoming attitude (read: superiority complex) that I basically cut my shopping short in the store and felt the need to leave. Life is far too short to be 'talked down to' in a fragrance shop. This is not a problem endemic to the Bond 9 stores in NYC as the store in the West Village is very welcoming and attitude-free. I have been a customer of Bond for many years now, and this kind of service felt like an insult. Whether you have spent thousands at Bond (cough cough), or it is your first time in the store, a customer should be made to feel at home and welcomed. And Not just because of all the pretty girls that work here haha The inside is gorgeous and pristine: star-shaped bottles lined everywhere neatly and methodically, spacious and inviting they pull you in with lush carpets, every step is nice, comforting; crisp colors and sparkles everywhere adorn the inside of this illustrious NYC perfumery on Bond St! I only wanted a few samples to take home but Alicia was so accommodating and friendly; she gave me sprays of anything but also offered her own suggestions to my preferences and I was definitely blown away; she has a great nose. Very professional and always offered me the blue cup of coffee beans to cleanse my nasal palette in between Most of the ladies' offerings are floral-based, but they are all unique, and some of them are just divinely intoxicating. I hate to be a stick in the mud about this place since everyone seems to love it. I'm a bit a fragrance hound, and have been wearing Creed Neroli Sauvage for years. While that scent has been somewhat inconsistent in recent years (bottles smell different from batch to batch), it still is by far my favorite. When this store switched from being a Creed store to Bond No. 9, I was willing to give it a chance. I tried several of their fragrances, Eau de New York, Central Park, and others that they swore would make me drop my Neroli Sauvage. I have to say, however, after thoroughly testing them and wearing them (not to mention spending buckets of cash in the process), I am completely underwhelmed by their fragrances. While intelligently constructed, they all seem to have this pungent, oily note that lingers after the other notes have dissipated and is too strong to begin with. Just my opinion, but to me this stuff is not worth the price. I'm stickin' with my Creed. It consistently gets compliments from the opposite sex, and what's better, not that many people wear it so I don't smell like every other guy that went into Sephora and pulled a bottle off the shelf. In short: A fragrance specialist with a very strong array of well executed colognes and perfumes. On my two visits I received excellent, informative attention from the staff. The rest: I'm very choosy when it comes to colognes(self) and perfumes(gifts), but Bond No. 9 does have a solid stable of scents. A lot of them weren't for me, but most were very well done and communicated the "idea" or intended scent behind them well ex: Cherry Blossom name DID equal Cherry blossom to my brain. I had time to spare and sampled quite a few, and luckily enough two stood out to me. I took a "trial vial" of each cologne that piqued my interest and one of them evoked a "WHAT is that? You smell delicious!". Everyone is different, and a scent will smell different on every person, so if you are going to check this place out, take your time. A little spendy? Yes. However you must think of a scent as your personal signature, and as such, a wise investment. If you are short on time, try Bleecker St. or the Saks Fth Ave special. (About my tastes: I like one from Hermes and one from Tom Ford, and 98% of the time a given cologne/perfume will smell "lame" to me. For women, try Un Jardin sur le Nil by Hermes.) read more

I hate florals with a passion. Those sweet, sticky, flowery scents are just too damned cloying to me, plus they always morph into the scent of cheap air freshener when I wear them (must be my body chemistry.) But yet, every friggin' perfume nazi at Sephora/Macy's/Bloomies is always trying to make me smell like a 'Spring Breeze, after the rain' because I'm female. (I'll pass, thank you very much.) Woodsy scents, like pachouli, amber, and sandalwood are more of my thing, yet I can only find those notes in men's cologne. Enter Bond No 9. Through the magic of a brilliant sales associate, I was handed a cup of yummy tea and introduced to my current obsessions; Hamptons (which is my everyday scent, with clean notes of lime, sandalwood, and beachy-goodness) and West-Side (my come-hither date-nite scent, with elements of rose, amber, and vanilla.) Though I forget his name (tall, blond, blue eyed, slightly annoyed by my torrent of questions) he listened to my 'anti-florals' rant, and suggested several alternatives that I did enjoy. Though they're not cheap (small bottles are $120-130, and large bottles start at $175) because the perfumes are made with 18-22 percent essential oils, the scents will stick around much longer than that bottle of JLO Glow you've been reapplying ever 15 minutes. My suggestion; take a Sunday, pay a visit to Bond no 9, and if you fall in love with a scent, but aren't ready to make the full commitment, buy one of the Bon-Bon's, which are a travel-sized version of the scents. read more

This is a high-end perfume shop with candles and body products. From being a non-perfume aficionado's point of view, this store is luxurious and the products look artistic in their designs. The SA helped me to pick a few scents that're popular in the store, but I didn't feel any enthusiasm or real help from her. The perfume and candles smell nice, but nothing really hit the spot. It also didn't help when I asked for the price tag, which was $98 for the candles and over $100 for the body butter. I can't help but wonder if the SA thinks I don't look or dress like someone who would spend that kind of money on their products (even though I do when there is a good SA convincing me how awesome their products are). Or perhaps, the SA thinks Bond No. 9 is already famous like Chanel No. 5 that it doesn't require any explanation. Will recommend the store to my perfume-loving friends. There's "Chelsea Flowers," "Chinatown," "Little Italy," "Wall Street," etc., and each one is totally amazing. I wear "Nouveau Bowery," but I'm also partial to "Riverside Drive" and "Bleeker St." They're all so interesting and innovative, but unfortunately VERY expensive. I bought a small bottle last year at Saks with a gift certificate, and I'm still only half way through it. It's wonderful stuff. Go check it out! I love the lay-out of the store and the fact that the stool have backrests with the image of Marilyn Monroe. :) The sales staff were very attentive and solicitous and I tried about three (3) hand creams of which Noho Nuits seemed the best. It was very fragrant but in the end, the scent just proved too overpowering for me especially since I favor subtle scents. Lovely store with a helpful staff very knowledgeable of their product, and when it comes to their scents, the varieties are numerous! The fragrances are unique & fun. I actually discovered Bond No. 9 at a boutique in the Philli burbs, but stopped by their flagship store @ 9 Bond St to have access to their entire line after my mom mentioned wanting a citrusy perfume. The sales associates quickly collected any citrusy scents, and I decided on Little Italy (with Neaveau Bowery in close second). As I rung out, they added me to their mailing list & took my preferences for scents & which of theirs I liked & disliked (they did not want want to send me samples of smells that weren't my taste!) My personal favorite is Nuits de Noho. The one drawback to the boutique (and you really can't even call it a drawback, its to be expected) is how heavily I was assaulted by every scent they carry the instant I walked in the door. I became a huge fan of Bond No 9 thanks to their amazing fragrances and the awesome service I received at this shop. This is the kind of place that normally sees my girlfriend and figures they shouldn't waste their time with me. Maybe the sales guy thought my old Led Zeppelin shirt was becoming or he saw through my summer comfort clothing and immediately helped me focus in on some of their colognes (without being asked!) while also helping my girlfriend with every single question and request she had. Also, since we were visiting from another state, he shipped the products we bought for free and didn't charge us sales tax. Ever since then, I shop Bond No 9 first when I want to smell purdy. On cold San Francisco days (every day apart from October) it's Chez Bond. Warmer days call for Wall Street. But that's just me. I would never buy any scent without trying it on as many scents either fade super fast or wind up smelling very very wrong on my skin. I'm probably not the type to order samples on line either so going to the shop was the way to go. I love this shop. The decor is really cool, the space is, well, spacious and they have some cool decorative pieces to look at. It's worth it to drop in and just look around. Incidentally, the underwhelming UES store did not appreciate my summer comfort ensemble (same Led Zeppelin t-shirt) apparently as the two times I've been there the sales person at the time seemed annoyed that I was in their tiny shop. What I love about Bond fragrances is that they are unique, complex and high quality. Two sprays an arm's length away will last all day. They definitely have more women's then men's fragrances and I know my girlfriend likes to blend them and I will say she smells fabulous. While I first balked at paying $240 for a bottle of smelly water, I very quickly changed my tune and now call it a bargain (ok, sure, it's probably a 2000% mark up from cost but that's the beauty biz). My absolute favorite perfume in the entire world is, unfortunately for my wallet, a Bond No 9 item and it is a risk buying it from other retailers, as the cost increases the chances of the stock staying longer on the shelves, and subsequently, being sold stale. This location is wonderful, full of charming sales staff, a welcoming environment, and the comfortable knowledge that all the items are in perfect olfactory condition. Staff is also generous with samples, no small thing at this price point. I've even thought of begging them never to change the formulation of my favorite, so sure am I of their sympathetic response :P read more
