Still 5 stars, but after attending class here for a few months, I just wanted to add that one thing I love about this studio is that they have so many classes throughout the day that it's hard to find an excuse not to go (well that and the fact that it is about ten minutes from home.) I've had trouble getting into an exercise routine in the past because it's hard to fit the time in with my work schedule, so the class frequency is a major plus. If you are thinking about trying out a class here, do it! read more

A long distance friend had added Bikram yoga to her competition training and was constantly singing it's praise. Upon hearing of the Hall Street Studio I knew I had to try it, and have kept it as part of my routine for the last nine months. I had some yoga experience, but this is not required. They tell you in your first class the only goal is to stay in the room and adjust to the heat, anything more is a plus. For me the physical rewards of increased endurance and flexibility are secondary. My biggest reward is shutting off the outside world for 90 minutes and just being focused and in the moment. The staff is friendly and believe in what they teach. They are just as quick to watch over the first time student as they are to encourage the more seasoned to reach new goals. Arrive about 15 minutes early, some days and times are busy. Bring a water bottle and two towels, one to cover your mat and one for after class. A face towel is also a good idea. My first class I wore cut off sweatpants and by the end of class they were so heavy with sweat I could barely keep them up. Wear something light weight and non absorbent. Treat yourself to something both intense and satisfying. read more

I've been going to the Hall Street Bikram Studio for more than a year and it's such a shame that I haven't written a review until now! This place is centrally located with classes starting from early morning to 8:15 at night. I have been practicing yoga for almost two years and I have enjoyed it more than any other exercise class which I have taken. It is truly an amazing cardio workout (more so than all that treadmill and elliptical activity), increases your flexibility and seriously leaves you feeling awakened, refreshed and ready to take on the world. No joke! It was a slightly difficult to get used to the heat however, after my first class I felt amazing and went back the very next day. This studio is so welcoming and friendly which gives me the motivation to go back and continue to practice. One reason this is my favorite yoga studio are the instructors. They give great feedback and are supporting and uplifting at the same time. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this place and the people who work there and most importantly the instructors. I practiced Bikram regularly for 2 1/2 years, 1 1/2 of those years was at the Hall Street studio before delivering my son. The instructors are friendly and they care about helping the students feel better and have a better yoga practice. When I first started, the heat would get to me but I soon discovered how helpful it is for the stretches and for helping my body to detox. I had been dealing with chronic back pain for nearly 20 years (since my teens) and, after six months, I've had little to no back pain since and no chiropractors. Bikram helps me focus better, handle stress better, breathe better and feel great and I can go at my own pace. Everyone in the room is in a different place and are able to hold certain poses better than other poses and that's respected. I did Bikram in the studio with my doctor's blessing when I was pregnant (some of the poses are modified for pregnancy) with my son well into my second trimester and then did the Bikram pregnancy yoga video at home every other day through the night before I delivered. Not only did I feel good and have an easy pregnancy at 40 years old while working full time, I didn't experience the typical pregnancy backaches, swollen ankles and feet or fatigue that I had heard and read about. In addition, it helped me through natural childbirth/water birth. Now that my son is a toddler, I am thrilled to be going back to the studio to practice. My cousin who introduced me to it five years ago had been doing Bikram off and on for ten years at the time. She has three kids and practiced at home nearly everyday after her youngest was a few years old. She wouldn't miss it because she feels so good and now that her youngest is in grade school, she goes to the studio in Boise twice a week and still practices at home most all other days as well as working part-time. Bikram yoga is one of the best ways to give back to you that there is. When I do this yoga, I feel more energized, calmer and I centered. I recently went back for the first time in many months and it was almost like I never left. It felt great and I'm so grateful for the practice. I hear over and over about people with all sorts of health issues, especially muscular and skeletal issues that they heal through a regular Bikram practice. read more

I've been to a few other "hot" yoga studios (some are also Bikram) in town and I have to say that I'm most comfortable with this studio. It is not entirely convenient for me, but I like their selection of class times and variety of teachers as well. It is always crowded (which says a lot as well!) so be sure to arrive early if you're particular about where you want your mat to be during class. My only wish is that they'd have more restrooms for the ladies as there is only one stall and the lines can get long right before class. Otherwise, I love this place and will continue to practice here every chance I get. read more

Love this place! Some of the regulars can give you dirty looks when you walk in, giving off a 'pretentious' vibe, but I just ignore it and focus on myself and my practice. I have used the bathroom and it was fine (wish some ladies would clean up their hair though...gross), but I live only 10 minutes away so I never shower there; I don't do public showers anyway. I just towel off and bring a change of clothes. read more

I absolutely love this studio. I was introduced to Bikram in January of this year and instantly fell in love... Shortly after beginning to practice this style of Yoga I became pregnant and have absolutely loved continuing my yoga during this pregnancy. Nothing aside from running long distances gives me the feeling of utter exhaustion and shear joy that Bikram Yoga does. The staff has been very helpful in directing me to pregnancy resources for yoga and teacher Krista was phenomenal in showing me all of the modifications for pregnancy. I love the comraderie and support I feel at this studio.. I am soo excited to continue practicing through the rest of this pregnancy and beyond! read more

Can I just say I'm posting a copy of the email I just sent them 5 minutes ago: Hello- I registered for a class about a week and a half ago using a Groupon. Due to an injury, I had to wait to take my first class. Driving there this morning for my first class (6 a.m. class), I arrived at 6:05. There were 9 cars out front, but the front door was locked. I was only 5 minutes late, and I can't imagine why the front door would be locked unless a class is canceled. I called the number on the front door and no one answered. I knocked. Noone answered. I drove a round trip of 30 minutes to take this class. This being my first class - I misjudged the driving time, and hence was 5 minutes later than I intended. I am highly disappointed to have been locked out. I am going to try this class again, but certainly my expectation level and original enthusiasm is deflated by your lack of staff to operate the front desk for attendees who arrive momentarily late. That is a real shame. (Because you know, I won't be the last to arrive 5 minutes late for class). END OF EMAIL. Conclusion - based on the other reviews, I can't help think that I am putting a lot of effort and driving into a class that may disappoint me in more ways than being locked out at my first one. I used to go here often and enjoyed it alot. Unfortunately over the years the place has gone downhill. The staff is not very well trained, friendly or organized. I enthusiastically endorse this studio! I have practiced at three Bikram or hot yoga studios in Portland, and this studio is definitely the best. The atmosphere is ideal for first-timers or yogis that have practiced for years. The studio is clean (which is very important to me) and well kept. The instructors are professional, attentive, helpful, and engaging (making the 90 minute session fly by quickly!). The studio offers numerous classes every day, so no matter my obligations, I can find time to attend a morning, afternoon, or evening class. I am in absolute love with Bikram Yoga! I have had numerous injuries in the past and always knew yoga helped calmed my nervous system down and now that I'm older my body is really reminding me about all the trauma. After a few months of Bikram, the pain was gone, my diet has shifted and I crave cleansing foods, I've dropped 15lbs and I feel full of vitality! The heat was tricky to adjust to at first.. Now I only notice the sweat (which is like an awesome spa treatment) and I don't really notice the heat, I've even gone most of the summer without the air conditioner because my body has become so acclimated to heat. This is the healthiest I've been in at least a decade. Bikram yoga has started an amazing transformation in my life.. I understand it may not be for everyone. But to anyone who has a strong determination for self improvement this should be right up your alley. read more

If I was a seasoned yoga practitioner, I would probably give this studio a much better review. Yes, most of the people were nice, and seemed helpful in some ways, but when it came to anything that was a concern, I was repeatedly shut down. As a beginner to Bikram I was not impressed. There was no interest in why I was there, if I had any physical concerns (areas to work on or avoid), or any introduction whatsoever. I got a different impression when checking out the website. After not making it through the full 90 minutes my first time, I attempted to leave and was told with smart alec indignance and disrespect, that I could not leave, the room or the building. I was never told ahead of time that I would be locked in the building. I actually liked the workout, and felt pretty good the next day, altho I did have some slight strains. When I attempted to return and try the class another day, hoping to make it through the full 90 minutes, they wouldn't let me do the class unless I guaranteed that I wouldn't leave. W? I found this bordering on extortion. I wrote an e-mail to the owner with my concerns and never received a response. I will never refer anyone to this studio, and am not impressed with their philosophy. I find it arrogant, narrow minded and disrespectful to new people that are not already involved in their style of yoga. This probably doesn't affect the current students that have been attending their classes previously. I've been to other yoga studios and have never been treated so badly. If they want new students to have a positive experience, they need to be more upfront about their "philosophy" and conditions of taking the class. read more

Don't really have anything positive to say about this studio. The carpet is nasty and the location is so so. My big complaint is more with Bikram and not so much the studio. Bikram is pretty strict and I have had some injuries I told two instructors about. Not one offered any modifications. I feel the teachers pushed people too far. Also, the teachers yell at you if you drink during poses. I am a grown woman and if I am thirsty I am going to drink some water. I know a lot of Bikram studios are dropping Bikram in their name due to the issues the creator has had with lawsuits and such. I was kind of turned off by this studio. I will go to a normal studio where I will be offered modifications. read more

I'm giving this place 2 stars because of the quality of the place not the people. Everyone that works there is great. I've practiced here a few times and have always loved my instructors and front desk help. The studio itself needs major help. The carpet is so old and dirty. It's actually coming apart in areas and smells like its never cleaned. They only have one shower and no lockers. The two MAJOR things that I'm SHOCKED about is they have no water fountain!!!!!! You have to actually try and fit your big water bottle under the bathroom sink right beside the the only bathroom stale they have. SO GROSS!!! The second MAJOR problem is the heat. You are paying for each class and it's a different temperature every time you go and its never 105 like it's supposed to be. How can you call yourself a Bikram Studio without the correct heating unit. Why is my review not being posted? It's been over a month since I wrote it. read more

is it a very well managed place. the classes are intense and it takes time to adapt. i have been running but my muscles crave hot yoga to relax. each instructor have a bit different style so try different days/times to find your favorite. big bonus - they have towel, mat, water, hair band - little thoughtful things that make you love the place. read more

I went to this Hall Street studio several years ago, and only left because I relocated for graduate school. I definitely missed this studio while I was away. Now that I've returned from grad school, I have re-started my membership with Hall Street and am happy to say that they still have the same friendly, positive, focused, and well-run studio that I remember. Teachers and owners have changed, but I still really feel at home. The yoga room (a large one compared to others I have been in!) is well-kept. The teachers are encouraging and know just what to say to push me during my practice; I always feel challenged! I never regret taking a class here, and I completely recommend this studio! read more

But this time cannot resist of sharing my thoughts about yoga classes I am taking at Hall Street Studio in Beaverton. I while ago I was quite skeptical about any yoga, thinking that is for women only exercises, but someone was able to convince me to give it a try. And guess what, I became a big fan of it. And my appreciation is so big that I decided to spread a word out about it. From my option, it is not only great exercises that keep you strong and flexible, but it improves you from head to toes. I am in late 40s and feel like I am back in my 20s. I forgot that I need to watch my high blood pressure and cholesterol level. My memory became as sharp as it was 20 years ago. I few months ago I was thinking to change my career (I am in software business) to pursue a new, easy one; but now, because of the yoga, I don't need it. I am catching every single bit of information, regardless of complicity of it. Isn't it fabulous? I think so. And that simple magic happened because of attentive and knowledgeable teachers and staff of the studios. Studios are great; they have dressing rooms and showers, which are very convenient in any ways, but in particular if are going to work after a class. Exercise rooms are large, clean, and well ventilated and of course it keeps its temperature of 104F. The heat distributes evenly throughout the room and it comes from the vents, not a wooden stove sitting in the corner, like some other studios have. It is quite encouraging. Isn't? Bikram Yoga on Hall Street is Penny Wise and Customer Dumb! I purchased a Living Social deal and called to ensure they would honor it. I also had my friend sign up for the same deal. When we arrived the lady at the counter refused to honor my coupon, even though I called and verified that I could use it before I bought it. I started hot yoga a few years ago and just love it. It gives me energy all day long and I eat better. My family loves when I go as they say I am a different person. I love the hot room as it rids all of my toxins. The meditation does wonders for the soul and mind. The instructors are wonderful, upbeat and help everyone. No one ever feels intimidated as everyone is at a different level. The studio is very clean as well. I have a more positive out look every day that I practice yoga and I even sleep better. This studio does not appreciate it customers. I was 3 minutes late to a class and was treated rudely. I have been to many other yoga classes over many years and this is the only studio/class I would not recommend. The owner stated that he receives many complaints and I can see why. This is a pretentious studio that takes advantage of it customers and offers no customer service. I have never written a review of a business before but I feel others should be aware that this studio i snobbish and the other has no respect for it groupon customers. read more

I have been going ot Hall Street Bikram for 2 years. Overall, i like it a lot - great instructors, and lots of classes. 2 negatives i can think of: 1) when it is cold outside, the morning classes are often "cold" (maybe 80-90 degrees), which defeats the point of hot yoga. I'd hope the management decides to upgrade their HVAC system. The other one is class size. While the early morning classes are great, anything after that is crazy full... All in all, great place. read more

I love going to Bikram Yoga. The Heated Yoga is wonder to help you relax and stretch thru the yoga session. The teachers are great, the work with you to help you improve working with you step by step, moment by moment thru each position. The times of the classes are stretched through out the day to accommodate any kind of schedule. And everyone is welcome. Beginners like me and people that already have the moves down pat like professional yogis. I highly recommend Bikram Yogi to everyone. They work with people with medical problems, so sore knees, bad backs, tennis elbow, don't let those stop you. Bikram is the place for you too. read more
