The space is conveniently located. It has great vibes. They host really good events. The owner is just lovely. They have snacks for sale, but free cinnamon tea. You can have as many cups as you like. They lock the door when you take a class the studio holds probably 20 to 30 I'm only guessing.

Beautiful space in the day and night!

I don't often write reviews, but I wanted to take the opportunity to do one for Yin Yoga Studio. I have been going there for a few months now, and this place is like no other studio. Solely focusing on the practice of Yin yoga makes such a difference when it comes to the space for practicing it within. I've practiced many forms of yoga for many years throughout my life, and while I've taken Yin from other studios, I've never had the experience that I've had with the teachers and this space. To start, the space itself is warm and inviting and welcoming. It's a dark gray studio with gold accents, which I find lovely and refreshing and also provides a richer experience in my opinion because you feel more held with the space and cozy. Space is beautiful itself with wood floors, wood-beam ceiling and the design of it with candles everywhere just sets the mood and helps you to feel instantly calm when you walk in the door. The teachers are amazing and really hold space for you, others, and the practice. The purpose of Yin itself is to hold poses for longer periods of time so they aren't trying to rush you through it but to help you listen to your own body and hold space for what you need in the practice. Yin itself is a great practice to help slow down the body and mind, and this form is s20. I came to this practice recently to try to find some calm in my body from ongoing rauma and grief in my life. I found pretty soon that this studio and practice in the way that they offer it is unlike the traditional which I would refer to as "gym" or "Instagram" yoga as it is so much more than that. I find that it's a space that I can allow myself to slow down and whether I'm thinking about things or not it's helped me to work through some of the physical and somatic responses I have to everyday life or working through traumas or emotional things as well. This studio really allows you to hold quiet, calm space for yourself to provide whatever it is you need to feel nourished within that hour. We are so busy with life and others that we don't often take the time for ourselves, to just sit, to be in our bodies in a way that's healthy and that provides deeper nourishing than other types of practices. Yin is not a practice that you have to hold like traditional yoga, I find it's the most passively active practice that I experience. The point is to sink in and allow and relax in on the floor poses that don't need to be done in specific alignment or strength but based on what your body feels and needs in the moment. And that practice translates to mental state as well. It's been so nourishing for my nervous system to try to get some calm in my body, and I can say it's the thing that is helping support myself through depression, trauma, anxiety, and grief. This studio offers that and more for anyone who just wants to get a good relaxing stretching session, to those who are more spiritually inclined or even just want a safe and welcoming space to be in their body and do something self-nourishing care. They also have really great events like a live cellist who will play during the course of a session, or a harp player or breath work, and a monthly yin/yang class. They support an inclusive and all welcoming environment for all races, genders and orientations and even provide late night donation based classes for those in the sex or service Industries as means for access/self care because they don't often get to with typical schedules offered at studios. I'm very grateful to the owner and all of the teachers who contribute to making this studio what it is. It's truly a gem in the community, and there's nothing else like it (literally, it's the first in the US). This studio has been a lifeline for me as well as others I've introduced it to. I would definitely recommend checking it out and taking advantage of the free intro week as well. You won't regret it!

I appreciate the variety of classes offered and the times are good too. The complimentary tea is lovely and the cafe next door is great too (although the people/vibe isn't as lovely there). I will always remember Jenn Reed from the first time I went there years ago. Much like the other instructors, so personable and kind. It's not about your money and they all seem genuinely so happy you are there. GET OVER TO THE WEST SIDE ALREADY!! :)

I was able to get in through the coffee shop O'vive as they share the space. There was a wonderful and very kind person that worked there named Grey and even though I dropped in on what I believe was his break, he rebooked me for their next class and explained the classes to me. He hooked me up with a mat which is free ( I think for your first time) and a locker key (in exchange for my I.D.) and let me know about the various lockers. Gendered and all inclusive! I was so stressed with being late and his vibe and the vibe of the studio calmed me down. The place was beautiful, squeeky clean and had pretty small light hanging like curtains on the windows that face Grand. There was some relaxing music playing from the cafe and it smelled amazing. It may have been the tea, the food or whatever else they were making there but it had a nice fragrance. I was able to chill on this beautiful blue sofa snd drink tea and write this review while I was waiting for the next class. The lockers and showere were also nice!! Photos included. I did the Power Flow Class with Eila and it was amazing! It was my first time and it was relaxing yet challenging. I didn't know it was more of an advanced class but I was ablebto keep it (mostly) I will definitely be coming back to do more of their class!

I started going here initially for the pre-natal yoga classes and loved it so much that I encouraged my husband to take classes here as well. Now we're regulars. I recommend: - Gentle Yoga classes with Birdie, Alison, Sascha, or Kat for beginners or to offset more intense classes - Vinyasa Flow classes with Birdie - fun, creative flows that feel well choreographed with great music. It's a more advanced class - Core Strengthening classes with Kat - fun for increasing your strength and fitness. I enjoy other forms of movement and dance, but they aren't what I'm expecting when I schedule a yoga class, and it can be disappointing when the class description doesn't match the actual format. Wednesday night Vinyasa with Birdie is excellent, and I'm clearly not the only one who thinks so--her classes are often waitlisted. Would it be possible to offer more classes in that style, or more opportunities to practice with Birdie?

YoY is a community of Yogis, not a business, per se. So, they offer the most genuine practices,…read moreoften blending the physical with the spiritual and mental. Whether it is just an energizing afternoon of Vinyasa Power Flow, or an evening of stretching and meditation with Recovery Yoga, or even a mind-opening experience in Cannabis Yoga... every class is taught with such intent, with caring for the individual and their bodies' needs and limitations, and so much love. Let me tell you a story... Years ago, I was struggling with my transition and many experiences had me sinking under the weight of feeling hated, disdained, or looked down upon by others. This had fed into the feelings of self-hatred that plague so many of us trans folk and I was so suicidal that I had a plan and a place all picked out. One night, I was so distressed, so panicked by the weight of pain that I was walking toward that place, ready at least to test my plan... or more..., when I noticed Yoga on Yamhill on my right. So many friends had suggested the place and how wonderful it was. I felt a sudden and strong urge to check it out. It was coming up on 9pm and... there was a Restorative Yin/Nidra class just about to begin. So, I turned in and ended up doing my very first yoga class ever. When it was all done, I felt as if the weight of the world was lifted off me, I could breathe again... I felt wonderful! Since then, I've attended so many classes here, mainly Yin and other stretching and gravity-focussed classes. I tried Hatha, and that was a great workout for me. I tried Vinyasa and OH MY GAWD that completely kicked my butt. I have gotten to know all the yogis here. Most of them are women and classes are mainly made up of women, making this a very welcoming and kind space, a wonderful place for those of us who do not "conform." There are guys teaching, mainly David Miller right now, who does Yin, Restorative, Cannabis Yoga, and events that blend Reiki, Massage, other healing arts, and yoga. This is a place to heal and grow, not just an exercise studio by another name. Please, if you need more than just a workout, come on in. The studio lost a lot of classes during CoViD, but it's recovering, new teachers are arriving and the schedule is filling out again. Take a look, at yogaonyamhill.com.
