When my mother passed, Anna Louise and her team were extremely compassionate and helpful. She treated us like family from the moment she picked up the phone and made sure my mother's arrangements were perfect. Patrick T. Mastice, Sr. recently passed away on July 10, 2021. My friend and longtime family association Ms. Anna Louise Bongiovi delivered a first class experience to my father's burial arrangements. Ms. Anna Louise is the best in this business because first and foremost she really cares about people, her business etiquette and making sure our loved ones and families are always comforted. Ms. Antonietta Cuoco was also helpful in my fathers funeral arrangements and Ms. Sandy the secretary is lovely and professional. My father had over two-hundred and fifty visitors at the viewing. My dad looked so peaceful and he looked like himself which was important to me. My mother, siblings, family members and friends all said the same thing. I have been friends with Ms. Bongiovi for over fifty years. She is loyal, funny, compassionate and understands this business up, down, left and right. She does all the cosmetology and hair services and is truly an artist when preparing loves ones for interment. Everything from the beautiful viewing, to a lovely and professional funeral and the first class repast reception at The Raritan Valley Country Club was all done in paramount fashion for my father. While paying my respects, I witnessed the owner approach the Mother and wife of the deceased and ask if they could go down to her office and pay the remaining balance, because she had to leave in order to bring her vehicle to the repair shop and get to the bank before they closed. She asked them while they were standing a few feet away from the casket! I was not very close to the family, but I felt absolutely terrible for them. If I did not witness this repulsive, heartless and selfish action from the owner (Anna), I would not have believed it. Shame on her. The Bongiovi Funeral Home has performed funeral services for most of my family members. Anna Bongiovi always goes above and beyond to make our final farewell perfect. She leaves no detail unattended and I have lost count of all the compliments we have gotten over the years. Anna Bongiovi is a wonderful person and this review is no reflection on her, as she was absent at the time of this memorial service. However, this is a reflection of Ray and Donna, who apparently woefully failed to fill her shoes. Ray (the stand-in funeral director, who was supposed to be present) failed to make an appearance during the entire service leaving the doorman, who sat at the front door reading the paper, to "greet" the mourners. After the service was completed- 20 minutes earlier than planned- and after the mourners had left, we had to ask Ray for bags to pack up the pictures and memorabilia we brought to the service. We had to put up all the pictures ourselves though Donna (apprentice) was supposed to do it. She apparently was too busy letting a little white dog pee on the front lawn as mourners arrived. When Ray did show up, he was not wearing a suit, apparently never intending on making an appearance at all! He then inquired what we wanted, well we wanted what we paid for, a person to direct and oversee the flow of the service, to set up the pictures, to greet the mourners, to invite the guests to the repast that followed and to pack up and assemble the pictures and memorabilia that we had displayed. He handed us some bags, we gathered up our belongings and left. This behavior is inappropriate on any level and certainly is not appropriate for a "professional"? funeral director. If Anna Bongiovi is personally overseeing your service you will get the best of everything as she is a truly kind, wonderful and loving person. If this family owned business falls into the hands of Ray and Donna go anywhere else as they, through their callous indifference, will add not ease your pain. read more

This review is in response to Countess S. unfavorable review. My name is Ray. I have worked for Anna Bongiovi for several years as a licensed funeral director /embalmer. I spend a majority of my time at the funeral home embalming. I filled-in last year when Anna was vacationing, and Donna, the intern, assisted me. Countess S and her sister made arrangements, with Anna, a few weeks prior for a memorial service, for a friend. Very specific instructions were left on the folder that the family would arrange the pictures on the picture boards prior to the service. Countess S sister arrived, with her husband, well before the memorial service to make sure the room was set-up to their satisfaction. She asked Donna to place the pictures on the boards and Donna did a beautiful job. She and her husband were very satisfied with the chapel set-up - urn, memorabilia, flowers, chairs. I did ask Countess S sister if she wanted an announcement at the end of the service about a repast, but she said there would be very few people attending and word of mouth would suffice. Countess S was not there prior to the service. I never met until the service was over. (A side note, I was not dressed in a suit, because I was not working that day. I stopped by, on my own time, to make sure everything was set-up properly. A licensed funeral director is not needed for a memorial service.) Our greeter, doorman, has been working at the funeral home for many years. He is a wonderful person and very attentive to a family's needs. He is warm, compassionate and empathetic. Donna is also a wonderful person. She is caring and compassionate. (More than likely she was letting Anna's dog out to relive itself. No controlling when a dog has to relieve itself and Anna does live at the funeral home.) The service ended thirty minutes prior to the scheduled time. A majority of services run right to the minute and most of the time they exceed the scheduled time. The greeter called me on my phone. I was just about to leave. He said the family wanted to see me or Donna. I went in the chapel and excused myself for not being dressed in a suit. This was my first encounter with Countess S. I didn't know who she was because I hadn't met her. She was unhappy with everything. I was shocked, because her sister and her husband were happy with everything. They even paid the bill in full. I tried to be accommodating and make her happy. I am a very professional individual. I spent many years as a church musician before becoming a funeral director. In the years I have been serving families, as a funeral director, I have received dozens of letters of thanks and appreciation. I have never been callous or indifferent to any family. I would leave this profession before I would allow myself to be that way. read more

I have attended many funerals at the Bongiovi Funeral Home . A majority of my local family and friends have used the Bongiovi funeral Home , all were very pleased with the services offered and the price . To us, and I speak for many, Anna Bongiovi and her late father are almost like family, with the care and kindness they have showed us at a difficult time . My friend John died in 2004, and his family did not have enough money to have a proper funeral . They did not want cremation . Anna worked out a payment schedule for the family, and they are still very grateful for Anna's kindness and understanding . Another friend had a similar situation and again Anna worked out a payment plan to help the family out . You don't get that kind of help at large funeral homes . Like I said , Anna and her late father have helped many during the hardest times of their lives. I think I can speak for most people in Raritan and Bradley Gardens , in that Anna and family have treated us like we were her own family. When I go I want my funeral at Bongiovi's. read more
