My two sons ages 5 and 9 attended two days of the French camp this week. It was great. The teachers spoke a lot of French to the children, and they did so many creative activities in two days (baked bread, made chocolate pudding, made chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, lots of art work, planted seeds which they brought home.) Similar to some other parents reviews here, we also had high hopes for this organization after attending a free mini day camp preview in November for kids who speak French (they said they have an 85% immersion program here). The camp counselors, Gabriel and Jennifer were nice and friendly and our kid had a great time. So, after that positive experience, we signed up for the Veterans Day day camp for the Manhattan location. The itinerary for the day sounds great though it looked like they'll be mostly outdoors at a playground or something exploring and playing. However, there was rain in the forecast, so the afternoon before, we received an email with the day schedule and a change in plans. Instead of staying in Manhattan, they will be taking a bus from Manhattan to their Brooklyn facilitity to be indoors due to the rain. I was apprehensive at first as my kid had not taken transportation without me anywhere before. But, they reassured me that it'll be fine as it's a common thing for them when the weather changes. They're professionals and use a trusted bus service. They'll keep us posted and will share pictures and updates. The day went fine and yes it rained, a lot, so I'm glad the kids were indoors. Their email had said that camp is 9am-4pm and pickup is at 4:30pm and must be done before 5pm. So, my husband was at the Manhattan location at 4:30pm to pick up our kid. BUT, when he arrived, there were no kids, no counselors, no bus or anyone was at the building. We called Bonjour NY number but no answer. There's a security guard at the building but he doesn't know anything and didn't let anyone into the building. Luckily, some other parents were also present and they had Airtags for their kids and were able to see that the kids were still in Brooklyn and moving towards Manhattan. Apparently, with the heavy rain, the traffic got really bad with flooding, so the bus is running late. Which is understandable, but there was no communication beforehand, during, or after from anyone at Bonjour NY that there's a delay with the bus and we don't know how long the delay is going to be and how the kids are doing? Are they hungry? Do they need to use the bathroom, etc.? These are 3.5 to 5 years old in a bus without parents and just three camp counselors navigating NY streets in the rain trying to get home. We would have felt better if someone in charge at Bonjour NY had called us or sent an email saying sorry for the delay but your children are fine and safe and we're on the bus coming back but there's a lot of traffic so we're running late. Any communication would have been greatly appreciated!!! But, no one reached out to us parents, there were no pictures shared throughout the day, no notes, nothing. Thankfully the kids returned safely after an hour delay, which for parents who don't know where their kids are was a very excruciatingly painful and worrisome experience! I emailed them about my concerns and dismay with their lack of communication about the incident, and the camp leader for the day, Awantz apologized and thanked us for our patience, which we accepted. Then, reassured us that the picture album with the days activities is being prepared and will be sent out later that day for us to see and enjoy with our kid. Five days go by and still no pictures or recaps of the day camp experience so we can see what our child did. Now, three weeks later as I'm writing this review, still nothing. We would've given them another chance had they follow through and send us the recaps and pictures of what we paid for our kid to do at day camp here. Things happen, traffic makes it worst, we understand. But, their inaction, lack of communication, and no follow-ups showed us that we can't trust them. Not with our kid. No merci! read more

We had high hopes for this camp after attending an info session. They have locations in Midtown, UWS, and more. We signed up for midtown for the convenience. The Friday before we were set to start, we get an email that they were not able to secure a license and thus had to cancel Midtown. They suggested we can attend the UWS location and for the inconvenience, would give a discount. Since it was last minute, we had no choice but to take their offer. Several weeks in, we still did not receive the discount. On the last day of camp, they said there was a misunderstanding and the discount would be much less than the one originally promise. We have an email clearly stating the original discount so not sure how there could be a misunderstanding. Several more weeks have gone by and we still have not received ANY refund and they have stopped responding. The camp was so-so. Based on my kid's description, there was minimal tennis/soccer and no swimming. The field trips were nice, but some weeks did not have field trips. read more

Bonjour NY has been great for our daughter! The camp has a primarily native French speaking staff, and they dote on their campers. The staff is spirited and fun. Our daughter, who can be very shy, blossomed around these kind and thoughtful adults. She learned a great deal of French this summer and even now, several weeks later, uses it at home. read more

My 5 year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed her experience with Bonjour NY. We were concerned that she might have some trouble adjusting as she had not really been exposed to much French before attending the camp but she picked up words and phrases quickly and especially loved singing the French songs that she was taught. The counselors were great - fun, attentive yet firm with the children. We especially liked that the camp was very active with swimming twice a week, play and sports outdoors every day that the weather was good enough and a field trip every week. My son had a wonderful experience at Bonjour NY. He only knows a few words and phrases in French so I was worried that he may not like it, but he LOVED the kids, counselors and camp activities. He improved his French and had a terrific camp experience. He spent a lot of time outdoors, improved his swimming skills and took some fun trips to destinations around the city. The camp was very organized and the staff so welcoming. We will be returning next summer and I highly recommend Bonjour NY! read more

The summer camp experience at Bonjour NY was just OK. The included activities are quite limited (like sprinklers for little kids or wading pool for kids who don't pay extra for swimming lessons). The staff are lovely folks who do not seem to have much or any prior experience working with kids or providing enrichment experiences for kids. Despite their promises, French is not always spoken to the kids, although they are likely to pick up the Bonjour New York song that is reviewed with the kids and some West African phrases/songs. There are much better run camps out there and ones that are much more enriching. read more

My son attended the camp last year for several weeks. Though only 5 and brand new to NYC, he had fun from day one and on. He went back this summer for 3 weeks. His wish! The staff is very energized and professional. Ria has replied to my emails in a timely and detailed fashion each time. The enrollment was also well managed. I have personally recommended the camp to other families and appreciate this summer camp opportunity. The staff is mostly composed of French native speakers and my son made new friends each week. It's been a very successful experience for all of us and simply a fun and educative way to spend part of the summer for my son. Special kudos to the staff for being so upbeat. read more

Bonjour NY, their summer camp, and Ria are not good people. They don't care about your child. We enrolled our son into summer camp the day before it started, paid $575 for the week. We were told by Martin, that all we had to do was fill out a medical form by our Dr. (we just moved back home from LA) and that our son could start camp right after. We told Martin that we would take our son to Dr. the first day of camp first thing in the morning, and come to camp late the first day. Martin said that was fine. We took our son to the Dr with the medical form, but on the form it requests blood work, which takes a few days for the results to come back. We explained to Martin and subsequently to Ria, and they said "oh well, you'll lose money this week, but we will give you a 30% discount next week" REALLY! We can't send our son to camp this week and they wouldn't refund our money or even apply it to the next week! Unbelievable! This is our son and his summer experience we are talking about! All they care about is the money and not relaying a proper summer time experience for the kids. They are awful people! read more

This was the first year I sent both of my children to Bonjour NY and I have to say it was by far, the best French camp in NYC. I have sent my kids to different French camps and there is no comparison. My kids actually finished the summer understanding and speaking French much more than before. The staff is warm and friendly and the camp offers amazing field trips during the week. I highly recommend this camp for both native and non native speakers. read more
