It pains me to write this review because we have been going to Bonnie Brae Conoco for many years. However, my last experience has left me cold. After damaging (actually obliterating) the right front tire of my car last weekend I put on the little doughnut spare and "limped" to BB Conoco to see if they could repair/replace my wounded tire. The attendant confirmed that my tire was beyond repair that that it would need to be replaced. He then told me that my Pirelli P6 tires were "not very good" and that I should replace all four. Now, I'm not an expert about cars and tires, and I know that Pirelli's are crappy tires for Denver driving (too high-performance) but I know when I'm being played. First, my car is less than one year old and secondly it only has 4,500 hundred mile on it. Really - I should spend $800-$1,000 to replace all four when three of them are practically new?? Once I pointed this out, he told me that he didn't have a new Pirelli mach on hand but that he would check the list to see if they had a used tire in the right size (225/45 R17). No, I told him, I don't want a "used tire". The manager then came out, looked at the tire and told me that he would not be able to find a match for the tire until Monday and I'd need to leave my car there. I told him that I only have one car and that I only live a few blocks away and could bring it back on Monday morning. He became down-right rude at this point, telling me that he couldn't do anything for me unless the car was on site and that if I needed something sooner I could check with DIscount Tire as they are local and carry Pirelli tires. Here's my favorite part - I asked if he would mind calling Discount to see if they had the right tire in stock. He said, No - you'll need to do that yourself. Now I know that going to another dealer would have taken the business from him, however I also know a bit about customer service. We've been a customer there for years - we even buy their gas even though it's aways more expensive than other stations. So, all he needed to do was make a quick call (there was not one else at the station at the time) and I would have been happy. Instead he elected to treat me like a no-nothing female and walk away. I think the only time I've experienced a full service gas station was in New Jersey, where you honest-to-God can't legally pump your own gas. I mean, WHAT is up with that? But, apparently some people like this and probably prefer not having to get out of their cars. Ever. So, when I pulled up to this Conoco on a whim (apparently going from 1/4 to Empty in my car happens in a few minutes), I pulled into the bay with the Full Service sign. I thought it was a joke, but I hung out for a minute and waited until an attendant came out. I confirmed that it was indeed Full Service, which he informed me added $0.40 a gallon for them to pump it for me. I said no thank you, and went to the other bay. He was polite, informative, and totally didn't make me feel cheap for going with Self-Service. Yeah, gas is "expensive" (seriously though don't get me started on this - if you can't tell by the quotes, I think $30 to fill up my car to get my American-driving-ass all over creation is pretty darn reasonable and people should stop complaining about this when they pay ridiculous amounts of money for other things that don't require as much effort to obtain), but if you're going to complain about a few cents per gallon, then you probably should go somewhere else. Until then, you can enjoy this cute old-fashioned-style Conoco and get some good service. read more

This is not a recommendation but rather a warning... I went here on the referral of one of my closest friends, who has been a 44-year loyal patrons, and assured me of the honesty and fairness I would receive. However, the reputation that can Wilson's father and grandfather built does not continue through, and is paired with a tacky sense of humor and an overall lack of knowledge in the Auto industry, not to mention the inability to properly execute customer service. I have brought in my VW Bug several times on the same issue, and as I sit here today, my car remains unfixed. I spent $754 the first time, $465 the second time, and $598 the third time. This last time I told him I wanted it fixed or my money refunded to me. If you couldn't fix it, and give me my money and send me on my way. But evidently $600 is worth risking the reputation of his 80 year, previously established name that his people before him worked so hard for. Most recently I was told to bring it back in for repair, but I no longer trust them on any level. Nothing but straight disappointment from them. Consider yourself warned, take heed and steer clear of them. He is not what his daddy was. read more

Update - December 2016 - I just got my clutch replaced, (kind of a big $$ deal for me), and I couldn't be happier. I gathered a few quotes but Bonnie Brae had the best pricing, very straight forward, parts & labor broken out, (not vague & bloated like the other places). Very speedy! It's official! I won't go anywhere else for my car needs!! Thanks guys!! Jan. 2014 - Although I've never gassed up here, I'm a big fan of this place. It's family owned, super convenient and decently priced for everyday car maintenance. I live right across the street; one time I had a dead battery, and the attendant walked across the street to jump my car for me, which was awesome! I ended up getting my battery replaced (it had never been replaced after 6+ years), oil changed, headlight replaced and maybe even wipers replaced. Since this was all last minute and I had never been there before I half expected the tab to be pretty big, but it was surprisingly much lower than I thought I think around $200 for all that. I'll definitely be going back. read more

I was a little worried about my brakes because they had been squeaking loudly for a couple weeks. I called beforehand and they said come on down and they would check it out. After taking my car for a ride, they listened to and inspected the breaks. Afterwards, they let me know that I was probably good on the front breaks until winter. Even on a busy Friday afternoon, they were able to take a few minutes to check out my breaks and they were nothing but kind and honest. I will definitely being going back there to have my breaks replaced in a couple months. read more

Just really great people. Honest, hard working and good mechanics. I live close by and am so lucky to have a place I trust that I can drop my car off at and walk home. These guys learned my name within the first 3-4 times I came there. They usually get my small stuff, like snow tire change outs and oil changes, done in less than an hour. I took my last used car there to get looked at before I bought it and they put it up on the rack while I waited. Their work isn't much cheaper than going to a dealer but the piece of mind that they are honest and the feeling that my car is being worked on by someone who KNOWS me is worth it. And yes, they have expensive gas. Maybe the most expensive in Denver. And a full service option. Maybe the only one left in Denver. This is a service station that happens to sell gas. And free air for your tires. If you're nice, maybe Kenny will let you borrow his tire gauge. Just remember to return it. If you want cheaper gas, go over to Alameda and Downing. There are two run of the mill, generic gas stations there. Their air costs a buck for like 3 minutes..... read more

My battery light went on in my '05 Scion TC recently. I contacted a good year store downtown that gave me an estimate of nearly $500 for a new alternator. My boss recommended this Bonnie Brae Conoco as being very reasonably priced. I figured it was worth a shot and gave them a call. They estimated about $200 LESS than the other mechanic. I took it in, they were very laid back yet efficient, and my car was ready within a couple of hours. Thanks for saving me money and giving such great service! read more

I recently took my GMC Sierra into Bonnie Brae auto service because my vehicle was acting weird - lights randomly blinking and fading, and sometimes it wouldn't start on first turn. It was getting progressively worse as the weather got colder and I didn't want to end up stranded. The mechanic told me that my battery and alternator were fine. That it seemed to be a fuel pump issue and it could cost $1000 to replace. WTH? He told me to come back if things got worse or changed. Instead, a friend recommended a mechanic that would come pick up my truck and look at it, and he found the issue in 30 minutes - a bolt on the battery had become corroded and he replaced it for $40. I haven't had any issues since then. The Bonnie Brae mechanic said he checked the battery - but if he lifted the flap that covers the bolts, he would have seen the issue. I'm irritated that they could have gotten $1000 out of me, and thankful they didn't. read more

I have an extremely reliable 2004 Hyundai Accent, and thus have not had to do any maintenance work on the car since I bought it in 2010 with the exception of routine oil changes and the replacement of the shocks several years ago which my brother in law did for me. Without ever needing work done on this car, this also means that I don't have an auto mechanic in town. I needed my brakes replaced but didn't want to randomly pick a name out of the phone book or go to Brakes Plus, where I knew they were going to price-gouge me and try to up-sell me additional work. Since this is the first time I've needed the brakes replaced since owning the car (almost 6 years) I have no idea whether the car just needs brake pads or rotors as well, and I didn't feel I was going to get an honest response from Brakes Plus. This garage came recommended by my boyfriend's parents, who are neighbors with the owner. The shop is relatively close to my house. I dropped the car off at 8:30 on a Saturday morning, 30 minutes after they opened. They told me there were only 2 guys working that day so they didn't have a specific ETA of finishing but told me they would at the latest have it finished by the end of the day. I also asked if they could take a look at the windshield wiper fluid reservoir since I was sure it had a crack. At 10:45, they called to tell me the car was ready, and that just the front brake pads needed replacing. They also re-connected a hose to the reservoir tank - no crack, and thus no charge in having to replace the whole thing. The service was very reasonably priced - $153. The 2 men working were extremely polite, knowledgeable and professional. I will definitely be returning the next time I need work done. read more

Not a bad little corner gas station but the price advertised on the big Conoco sign says one thing and they charge you a LOT more. I got my recipe after fueling completely full (20gal of fuel) and noticed that the price I paid per gallon was 40 cents more then what was being advertised on the sign. I went inside to ask why the huge difference in price. The manager was dressed in dirty clothes I couldn't even tell he worked there. I was told because I pulled into a pump that was considered a "full service" pump that they think charging 40 cents more then advertised on the sign and 70+ cents higher then anyone in town is acceptable. There is absolutely no sign advertising this service up charge. Even when no one greeted me, pumped my fuel, even come talk to me at all. I politely asked the manager for a refund on the difference and he told me "never had anyone ask me that, can I give you a drink" I find this extremely disappointing and personal think it is false advertisement. I would have never stopped at this station knowing it is 70+ cents more for fuel than anyone in town. I was going to give a three star but the response I got from the manager was so disrespectful. read more

I have taken every used car I planned to buy there prior to purchase and they have always inspected the vehicle for a fair rate in order to ensure I don't buy a lemon. Terrible. My clutch went out. 1990 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 4x4. Took it to these guys upon recommendation. A week later, the job is done and I go to pick it up. The cost is approximately $1,300. Great, I think. Probably a poor financial decision but at least I have a running truck now. Think again. The truck will not shift from first to second without extreme force, and a new grinding noise has appeared when shifting between all gears. I call these guys up again and they tell me to bring it back in. The manager/owner takes it for a spin and, upon his return, announces that there are no problems. Apparently I have been imagining the problem. He goes on to say that he can't do anything for me because he can't find any problems. On the drive back home, the same problems are immediately obvious. I call them up again, but they refuse to help me. Upon another recommendation, I take the truck to another shop that specializes in 4x4 repair. Pulling off the transmission reveals that this shop - Bonnie Brae Conoco - installed the clutch incorrectly, failing to tighten all necessary bolts, which has resulted in permanent and irreparable damage to the brand new clutch. With this evidence in hand, I call Bonnie Brae up and receive the same brick wall treatment. The truck is now history, and thanks to Bonnie Brae I am $1,300 poorer with nothing to show. Worst automobile repair experience of my life. Hindsight tells me I should have sued, but I'll chalk this one up to a lesson learned. Potential clients beware. read more

It starts out with needing new tires for my truck. They had treated my step son well when he had tire problems so I thought I'd try them out. So they find tires for me, quote me a price and I said go ahead. First they ask if I have a special tool to take the lug nuts off my custom wheels. I say no but it turns out that another car in the bay next door has one of these tools for their custom wheels so all's good. After taking off my wheels they inform me that I have two tire pressure sensors that are damaged. That will cost me an additional $300, and the new sensors won't be there until the following morning. So they put on the new tires and tell me to come back the next day to put the new sensors on, but now I have to go to a specialty tire store across town and buy one of the special tools to take the lug nuts off because the car in the next bay won't be there tomorrow. This I do, reluctantly, and deliver it to them the next day. So next day I show up with the $15 special socket and they proceed to install the two sensors while I go next door to the campus lounge to get a beer. When i come back they hand me a print out from the computer showing me how to reset the new sensors so the warning light on my dash goes out. I think why am i being told to do this but I go along with it because it takes 20 minutes. So I go home, do the procedure and it doesn't work. I go back the next day and they tell me to try something else. That also doesn't work I go back again and they tell me to take it to a Toyota dealer and have a special tool that they will wave like a magic wand over each tire to reset them. By this time I feel like a dumb blond, or at least I'm being treated as such. Fast forward three days and I go to my regular mechanic for help. First, he shows me how a 17mm socket works just fine on the lug nuts. Then he asks me about the damages sensors, because they are attached to the tire valve that you use to fill the tires. You see the damage was that SOMEONE used a vise grip tool to remove the caps and pinched the end of two of the valves necessitating replacement. My mechanic assured me that the last time he serviced my vehicle, which I do regularly, all valves were fine and in working order. So I leave my truck there and two hours later he calls me to tell me all the sensors are reset, I pay the $100 bill and leave. Now this debacle costs me an extra $400 over the price of the tires, as well as the time associated with running across town to buy a pointless tool that BB Conoco supposedly doesn't have. Fortunately I will never have to return to this establishment, and certainly not to pay the additional 30 to 40 cents they charge for a gallon of gas. I'd like to say I learned a lesson, but truth be told, the only reason I went there in the first place was because they treated my stepson well when he had issues with a bad tire so I thought I'd return the favor by throwing a little business their way. So I get screwed in the process. So much for being a nice guy. read more

I went in for a break check the manager ken didn't compete the drum break check or bleed the breaks like I requested I only returned to ken telling me they stripped the lug and the nut, I was forced to buy a lug nut and pay for the parts to repair it a few days later not only did they let a customer drive off in a unsafe vehicle i was forced to pay to have my keys back, I've never been strong armed before or treated so poorly I will never go back. read more

I have a classic 1970 Chevy Malibu Convertible and they keep it running like new and never try to push things I don't really need. I see other classics there as well. THAT says volumes to their work! I can't speak to the service or the mechanical work they do here, but if you just need gas, definitely go somewhere else...this place is SUPER expensive, sometimes as much as 60 cents more per gallon than elsewhere in the city. I don't know how they justify charging people that much - I guess they just hope that people who live close by will come because its convenient and/or because they won't notice how much more they are charging. I live nearby and have to fill up here on occasion when I've let my tank get too low, and it always pisses me off. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Such a rip-off! I paid $118 for an oil change and new windshield wipers! This place came highly recommended to me because they were a family company, but they completely took advantage of me! I asked for an oils change and they did not ask what kind of oil I wanted or anything about the windshield wipers... the man at the desk was so harsh and unfriendly I didn't even know how to talk to him. When I went to pick up my car their computer showed oil being $65, labor being $8, then multiple "services" that ranged from $7.50 to $1.50 and the wipers costing $27 totaling $118!! When I got the actual receipt I saw they added a whole bunch of new filters and other lubricants to the car and $1.50 of windshield wiper fluid ( I literally just refilled that last Thursday and had too much so the rest of the jug was sitting in my garage!!!!!) what the heck did they do for that??! I am soooo upset by this!! They used to be a great place and now they are jerks and untrustworthy!!! read more

My father has been going to them ever since we moved to Colorado in 1989. He has loved working with them and have always been fair and done beyond quality work. as an adult now that is the only place I take my cars. I live by park meadows mall and gladly take my cars to those guys knowing I can trust and rely on them to do quality work. I have take it in several times just to have them look into issues and they never charged me anything to look into it. I admit the gas is steep, very steep but considering that there is not a gas station that close its basically a convenience thing. I do not buy gas there but that does not deter me from the quality work they do. I am always for supporting local business especially when they have always treated my family with respect. read more
