My girlfriend recommended that we dine at BooBoo Pho tonight. It was a great idea! I had the stir-fried beef with rice noodles, and my girlfriend had a Vermicelli rice bowl with chicken. Those of you who have read my prior reviews of Booboo Pho know how highly I have regarded this restaurant in my Yelp life. The pho from Booboo Pho is among the best in the world, actually dethroning my prior best pho place (Pho Ho Binhin Rockville) after many many years of trumpeting that restaurant. Well, today, I found the limits of my Booboo Pho love. Their Banh Mi Sandwich. I have never actually had a banh mi sandwich before but I have read a lot about them. And everything I read says that it's the bread, the bread and nothing but the bread that sets this sandwich apart from all the other sandwiches in the world. So it was with great excitement that I ordered my Chicken Banh Mi. I picked it up, drove fast back to the office and unwrapped my sandwich. I knew from the 1st look that something was wrong. Instead of the soft, warm, cushiony, tender bun I was expecting, there was a regular, ordinary deli roll. A hard, stale deli roll that falls apart and shoots crumbs onto my lap with each bite. Once I started eating the sandwich, I realized that this deli roll was not even a good deli roll. No taste, nothing worthwhile. So I am sad to give Booboo Pho only 3 stars. I am sure that my next bowl of pho at Booboo Pho will rate another 5 star rating. But, for now and for my Banh Mi, I am sorry for the 3 star review but that is all that it's worth. The noodles had perfect texture, and the fresh herbs and veggies added so much balance. The portion size was generous, and honestly, worth every penny. The restaurant itself was spotless. My partner and I dined in for a weekday lunch and we got the BooBoo Pho special, grilled pork vermicelli bowl, and papaya salad. All the dishes were good, and flavorful. The pho broth was good, and you can really taste the cloves used. It's located in a plaza so there's plenty of parking. Service was good and fast. Best pho l've ever had. I'm a home cook myself and have made pho at home several times, but this place is superb. The broth always tastes fresh, and the proteins are super tender and not dry. Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your money. This food was pretty terrible and tasted like nothing. The chicken wings just tasted like fried oil. The meat itself wasn't cooked enough and had no seasoning whatsoever on it not even salt. The spring rolls were OK. I would say that that was the best thing that we got my mom enjoyed her pho but said it was pretty lackluster again no seasonings no nothing. I gotta bond me with shrimp. The bread they use is not a good choice for the sandwich and there was four pieces of shrimp a little bit of cucumber and a couple more things on it but again it just should've been filled better because of the size of the bread I think if they're gonna give the amount that they gave, they should have a smaller bread and most of the bread I just had to peel off because it was just hard and not good. Booboo Pho is such an underrated pho spot, i always come with my friend and order the steak and tripe with a mango slush and it never disappoints! The service is great and they dont bother you when you're eating they just let you enjoy your food which is great if you just come to chill and eat like me hehe (i am still very much appreciative of them and the water refills i get!!!) but i highly recommend this spot its one of my favorite pho spots to just eat and chill and watch my youtube lol. There is finally a Pho restaurant in the Montgomery Village area. The restaurant is very clean and nicely lit. I've tried food for both take-out and dine-in and both are very good. Food is a bit pricey compared to other Pho's ($15 for a Large bowl) but considering that if you are in the Montgomery Village area you do not need to go over to Rockville or farther out to get Pho, it is pretty good. I've been on a three month venture to find great Pho in the Montgomery County area. Boo Boo's beef pho, with steak and brisket (P5 on the menu) is as good as any I have had. The beef pho broth was expertly seasoned and simmered to perfection. It was not overly spiced to take away from the protein or the other condiments There was over a quarter pound of steak and brisket in the pho, more than most any other establishments I have tried in the last three months The steak was sliced extremely thinly and it was tender and flavorful. The brisket was equally cut, extremely thinly, it did not fall apart in the soup and was a wonderful complement to the steak. The bean sprouts were very fresh, the noodles, flavorful and plentiful, and the cilantro and onions added a perfect complement to the flavors of the broth and the meat The best way to describe this bowl of pho was, it was very very fresh, it was satisfying, filling, but left a very fresh taste in your mouth. My food was ready, so I sat down to eat it. After eating for a few minutes, my throat began to swell. When I started coughing in the cashier's she came over and asked if I was okay. I asked if there was beanspot in my food, and she said no, so I took my allergy medication. After a while, I was able to do it. I ordered a large plain pho and my husband got a large meatball pho. The flavor of the broth was very good, however, the portions are small. I usually can't finish a large at other pho places but I was still hungry after finishing the whole bowl here. My husband said the same thing about the portion and the meatballs in the pho was cut into small pieces. In a picture posted by the business owner, the meatballs are cut in half but the meatballs were cut into quarters. We also ordered the fried tofu which was very delicious and we got the grilled pork chop rice dish to go. I might go back to try their other dishes but not for their pho!
